Tuatara closed up his satchel so that the rain wouldn’t get in. After making sure everything not water proof was safe, he dashed over to the well and began reeling the bucket up. The bucket came to the top, but was out of his reach. Perfect, he thought.
Tuatara put the poison and bottle in his pocket and climbed on to the wall. He took the poison from his pocket and unstoppered it. The he leaned out as if to take water from the bucket but ‘slipped’ and fell in. He let go of the bottle and grabbed a hold of the edge of the well. “Your mother’s a turkey,” he said as a curse.
As Tuatara climbed back onto the well the other poison bottle fell out of his pocket. “Aunt Jemima! You lily livered, yellow-bellied sap-sucker! Great! How am I supposed to get enough water with one bottle?” Then the sound of breaking glass echoed up. Well that’s good.
Tuatara lowered the bucket a little and filled the empty bottle. He put it in his pocket after stoppering it. He then dashed back into a tunnel. Now to find Marcus, he thought as he pulled a damp map from an inner pocket.

Tuatara regarded his map. Did I take a wrong turn? Am I holding it upside down? No, the lettering is right side up, Tuatara thought to himself. He rounded a corner and saw the back of a guard and immediately ran back. He looked back around the corner.
Several cells lined the wall and two guards had their backs to him. Why two? Is it a coffee break, are the doors magically sealed? The hairs on the back of his neck stood up. Is this a trap? Please tell me no one like Orpheus is gonna jump out.
Tuatara forgot his thoughts and crept around the corner. He drew his sword and dashed up behind the first guard. Hope this don’t turn into a fight, he thought as he hit the guard with his pomnel. The guard fell to the ground and the other guard turned with a look that said ‘give me sumthin to hit’.
Not much room, Tuatara thought as he dodged the sword aimed for his head. He put his sword in his scabbard and dodged again. The guard lunged and Tuatara sidestepped, swiping the cell keys. The man fell and Tuatara promptly hit him over the head. Hope no one heard that.

Tuatara began looking in each cell and called out Marcus' name. He must not be here. But where? he quizzed himself. He heard a groan. Better figure something out.
Tuatara quickly put the keys back on the mans belt and after some searching in his satchel he found a bottle of whiskey. He dumped some into each guards mouth and put the bottle in one of their hands. Hopefully that'll trick them, Tuatara thought as he wandered deeper into the fortress.

Tuatara sat crammed behind a small statue. Whats taking sword boy so long? he questioned. Man, my back is killing me. He craned his neck to look around the statue. The mini-gate is still guarded. People gonna get sick yet?
Four men walked up to the guards on duty and said something. The guards then walked off in the direction the other's had came from. Shift change? Tuatara thought. Maybe they've had some water. One of them coughed.

It was still the middle of the night. In about eight hours the sun will rise and the life would return to the fortress.
Not that it was very quiet during the night... Men on guard-duty patrolled the walls. Torches were scarce and the men just squinted their eyes when they faced the blackness of the rolling plaines. They had learned an old war-trick. One sees better without the use of artificial light. The eyes get used to the darkness. But here, on these plains, it was almost impossible. They could see about a hundred meters into the dark void, but after that the long grass started and then... blackness. It unsettled the men. Some feverously prayed to the Saint, hoping that the attack that they had heard about would never come.
Others just faced the darkness. Stoic. They braved it and felt it was something to be endured and that there was no reason working oneself up over it. It was something you had to let happen. The darkness couldn't kill you. But on some days, it could. On the section near the church two men were haunced over the wall. Staring. The fortress was on high alert since the arrival of two people; a cleric and a servant, said to be chased by the rebel army. They didn't worry. They had a dragon. Sure, it wasn't tamed but...
Suddenly one of the men slumped to the ground. "Thomas?" The second man inquired? He then spread his eyes wide open and he too slumped to the ground. Bleeding out of his neck and feeling the blood filling his lungs he tried crawling toward the bells. He barely made it but succeeded in grabbing the piece of rope that was attached to a bronze bell. Firmly he pulled the rope before collapsing and falling, rolling off the wall, into the fort.
Something really bad had happened.

Suddenly the fortress came alive in the middle of the night. There was a lot of screaming and yelling involved. Ariston was informed. Calmly he put on his armour. So, this was it, the rebels had found them. Outside, mages and archers were manning the walls, together with other soldiers. They saw nothing. The mages hurled fire balls into the darkness, every time briefly illuminating the plains. They saw nothing but high grass.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the soldiers were found. They seemed to be hit by arrows. The men reported back to Ariston, showing the arrow. Ariston just nodded in apprehension. Outside, the Etrurians learned that they shouldn't show their faces. Every once in a while a black object would emerge from the darkness, hitting a man in the shoulder, neck or face. The men waited. Soon, they would come.
---
It was only a matter of time before the Etrurians would remember they had a dragon. Around the well, men started filling their bottles and drinking greedily. They were thirsty and they better drank enough before engaging in combat.

Men began to get sick. People started to die. Screams were heard. But all Tuatara did was watch that gate. And when the guards finally left, he made a quick, snappy dash through and then pulled out his map. He slipped into a side corridor as he checked it.
Lets see, gotta go here, then there then all the way over here.... Tuatara thought. But it don't show where scary-guy's at. Well, perhaps I can persuade a guard...how do you do that anyway? Who knows, now, to the cells!
Tuatara made his way to the cells and after several close calls, he rounded the corner. And when he rounded the corner, he almost had a heart attack. "Holy..." he said and quickly covered his mouth as he ran back around the corner. There was about twenty or thirty men guarding two cells. That's alot of soldier-guy's. How to get them, how to get them.... He then began rummaging around in his satchel, looking for an answer.

Richter stood in the distance a ways back from the fort, his soldiers ready behind him. All over the Ariston's fort he could see torches being lit and hear the faint yells of the soldiers scrambling with activity. They definitely weren't expecting a midnight attack, and it seemed the arrows were doing their job. Perfect. They needed the hidden element of surprise on their side.
Unfortunately, it didn't look like Evayl and Tuatara had been able to open the front gate, but that was a long shot anyways. The commander hoped they had managed to poison their water supply with the venom, however; that was the pillar that this plan stood upon. Hopefully he'd be able to get everyone out, but if he couldn't, they knew the price they would have to pay. Richter just hoped Ariston hadn't been able to break Marcus yet. They had a dragon as well, but it would be much more fortunate for everyone if such methods remained unused.
"Keep up the volleys," said Richter to the archery sergeant behind him. "We'll move towards the fort in a bit. Prepare the hooks and ropes. We weren't able to get the gate open, so we're going to have to scale the walls." The soldier nodded, turned to his regiment and motioned for another arrow volley. The air whistled as wooden shafts cut through the atmosphere, sailing towards the fort. The pink haired rebel turned his iron gaze back to Ariston's fort. His brow narrowed. "I'm coming for you Ariston. Mark my words, if it's the last thing I do, I will pierce my sword through your black shriveled heart."

Clair stood, a bit uncertain about the events taking place. The fact that they were using poison still unnerved her, though it was clearly what their plan was dependent on. It would also decrease their own army's losses. The whole thing felt dishonest to her, a silly thing to worry about she thought, considering the situation. But it doesn't change their intent. To kill us. Whether they're sick or not, we're fighting this battle, and we need to come off the winners. She was committed to this battle, regardless of her personal worries. Worries which had mostly been set aside.
Preparations had been made. She'd gathered some of the dust, and soot from fires around the camp, and had smeared it onto Corona's normally pristine, white coat. This was a night op, and the smokey smell was a small price to pay for the transformation from bright, reflective white, to a dull grey coloring. though if she was high enough they could still make out a silhouette against the night sky, the pegasus himself would barely be visible. Unfortunately, the trick had not seemed to work quite as well on Clair, or her armor, and so, had been abandoned.
Approaching her Commander, already mounted on Corona's back, she gave a quick salute. She was briefly reminded of the first salute she'd given him, months ago now. "Commander, I'll try and stay in the saddle as long as I can... Forts like this tend to be enclosed though. If I become to much of a target, I may need to dismount and join the infantry." With all the archers so close, it would be difficult to survive... If she was spotted. The change in Corona's coloring would make it difficult to spot her until she was already on the way out.
All she needed now was some kind of orders. Shoould she dive in head on, or be held in reserve as some kind of diversionary tactic. If she could find a decent location, she could attempt to insert a small force onto the walls without alerting the guards. Of course, the ememy would likely be ready for some of these maneuvers. She herself would likely favor strafing runs at random locations along the walls. "Commander? Do you have orders?"

Mavick stood at Richter's side, a smug smirk on the tactitians lips. Just as he had promised, the midnight attack was thus far successful. The sabateurs they sent in had not returned yet, but oh well. They knew they might not get out alive. Sacrifices were always a factor. Besides, he had bigger problems. Like the dragons. Two dragons fighting on the plains could prove to be catastrophic. They needed to avoid that. They also needed to get inside the fort. Sooner or later, the enemy would collect their wits and strike back. They needed to mount a real assault before that happened.
He was drawn out of his thoughts by the arrival of Clair. He looked at her, and had a spark of inspiration. "If I may make a suggestion, commander." Mavick cut in. "It has occured to me that we still must infiltrate their fort. I have been wondering how to do this with minimal loss of lives and time, and I believe I have an idea." he stated. "The fort is run down. They didn't have enough time to fully reinforce it with stone. They had to subsitute it with wood. They also probably have ballista, and of course, the gates are wooden. I propose that Officer Feldsky take something flammable, my ruined tent tarp perhaps, and drop it on a flammable part of the wall, along with a torch to catch light. This would help destroy their defenses and take out more of their troops." he explained.

Richter nodded as Clair addressed him. It bolstered his spirits to remember his most trusted soldier was at his side. "As long as you take the route that gives you the highest chance of survival, Feldsky. We've lost enough men as it is, and I can't afford to lose any good officers," replied the commander. "If things get too dicey, get out of there. I'm not expecting this battle to be anything short of a mess." Normally Richter would have followed up his words with a narrowed brow and a quick smirk, but his attention was far too focused on the fort. He could feel the weight of the upcoming battle on his shoulders, and his legs twitched with anticipation. In just minutes, this fort would become one of the most critical battlegrounds in recent history and no matter who you were, that was a frightening prospect.
"Where's Rayl?" Richter allowed himself to think. The paladin would have most likely had some words of encouragement to tell the soldiers, but the pink haired rebel could find none within him. All he'd be able to do is roar with fury, and getting the soldiers all riled up right now wouldn't be the best diversionary tactic.
Richter listened to Mavick's suggestion, pondered, mulling the idea over in his mind, then nodded his head. "I like the plan, Mavick," replied Richter, a fist to his mouth in brooding thought. "The fire would not only burn down part of the wall, but the resulting blaze would cause chaos in at least some of Ariston's forces." The rebel commander turned to Clair and jut a thumb towards the fort. "Feldsky, you heard the tactician. Prep the tent and a torch. You're the only one I can really ask to do this, so don't let me down."

Richter seemed to be particularly focused. Focus was something he truly believed in, and always tried to maintain, but this time seemed even tenser than usual. "Yes, Commander. I've got too much left to accomplish before I let myself falter." Clair had a brief realization. Since beginning training as a pegasus squire, she'd always had a goal to match her mother's and other trainers skills. To do that, she'd needed to better herself, but over the months with Richter, somewhere, that goal had changed. Somewhere, she had gone from trying to match the skills of her superiors, to training to grow beyond them. She tried to remember some instances: wanting to train with her commander, a conversation about training with Gwen.... She still had a long way to go, but training under, and eventually overmatching Richter's skills would be her goal for the forseeable future. Likely for a very long time, actually. Clair heard saw Mavick come up, and just managed to pick him out of the twilight. She listened, without comment to his plan, taking in what she could of him, thinking about the "how", and "what" he had suggested. Combat technique wasn't the only thing she'd need. She would have to remember to be flexible, in the future; to treat the landscape itself as a weapon. The blond haired pegasus knight didn't know whether the fire would catch as well as Mavick seemed to think, but it would certainly cause plenty of chaos, which could prove just as dangerous. "I'll see to it immediately." - - - - - Corona took off, and carried her back, back to where the supplies were kept, until she nudged him down for a smooth landing. She had arrived at a place where scraps which were still usable enough to recycle were kept. ...And there were the tarp scraps. It didn't take long to get them ready. The only issue was how to get it lit, and into position. She looked over at Corona, absently rubbing his head on one of the nearby wagons. "Well, I suppose we'll have to just wing it." Within a few more minutes, Clair had mounted up on Corona, and taken to the air. She carried the remains of Mavick's tent, folded in such a way as to unfurl, and drift down, covering as much area as possible. She also had a lit torch, carefully shielded from the wind, and easy view, by hiding it behind the cloth. It would still raise her visibility for the archers, and mages, but not enough to giver her away immediately, she hoped. The gray coat she'd given Corona, should also help, allowing them to pass for ghosts in the night. They approached the fort, trying to be as silent as possible. There wasn't a enormous amount of light to see with, but she could make out the front gate, and on the walls, a little bit away, a ballista. Actually, she could make out at least five other ballistas as well, but this one near the front gate could potentially cause the most trouble to advancing soldiers. Clair had found her target. With a slight flip of his wings, Corona angled downward, towards the tower and its fortifications. Clair thrust the torch forward, and lit their improvised fire bomb, allowing it to catch fire, and burn in her grip for as long as she was able, before releasing it, and angling away from whatever mass of attention suddenly seemed to be directed at the fluttering collection of flames. She wasn't sure just how on target it was, but it seemed to be heading in the general direction they wanted it to. If they hadn't realized that they were vulnerable before, they would now. OoC: Long post is long. Kraft, it's your job to tell us where the tarp lands, as that could be seen as cheating if I dropped it wherever I wanted.

Guinevere stood in her place in the unit. The search for Morgoth had been long given up now. She had sprinted in the direction she was told, but hadn't seen so much as a footstep of the black-robed man. Resigning herself that either he hadn't gone her way or had gotten away, she returned to the camp and readied herself for the battle to come. After putting on her armor and grabbing her lance, she took the time to check on Rayl one last time. He was still sound asleep and seemed to be doing better. She couldn't help but give a little smile before she left the tent and joined up with her unit. Now, standing in line behind her commander, Gwen waited silently, her grip tight on her weapon. She knew everything was about to start and was doing all she could to remain calm about it.

Tuatara hid around the corner from the guards, debating on several hair-brained ideas. But then footsteps began echoing from the direction he had come. Quickly, he croached down into the shadows as an Etrurian soldier ran by and into the guard area.
"We need men at the walls," he puffed.
"We've strict order's to guard this dragon scum," a guard answered.
"You defy an order?"
"Are order's come straight from Artriston." There was some yelling and arguing that Tuatara's short attention span kept from his memory. Finally the soldier said,"Fine, leave three or four men and lets go. I doubt they can get this far if we keep them at bay."
There was some scuffling and then several men swiftly passed by Tuatara. One stopped and peered toward his hiding place. Not now, Tuatara thought. I'll fight the lot of them if I have to. Somone called back and the man dashed after his comrades. Once the man was out of ear shot, Tuatara sighed. Now to save Marcus.

Marcus, for the past several hours, had been sitting in his prison cell, wondering about the safety of his friends. However, he had also been working on a plan. Not really an escape plan, but a plan nonetheless. The last "meal" that he had been given had contained a fair sized bone that he had been sharpening into a crude knife. Now that it was ready, he only had to put into action.
He waited for a little while, until a guard came to gather other guards to defend against some commotion on the walls. Most of the guards left, leaving three guards behind. Now was the time. Marcus shuffled towards the bars, clutching his stomach as if he was starving. "Ughhh, I'm so hungry..." he moaned, continuing towards the bars. He leaned on the bars and lightly shook one of the guards. "I need food," he moaned. "Go sit back down," the guard barked, turning towards the dragon.
That was all Marcus needed. Marcus grabbed the guard by the chest plate and slammed him against the bars, procuring the bone knife from his robes. He stabbed continually at the guards exposed neck, until the other two guards pulled their comrade out of Marcus' hands. It was too late however, as the guard fell to the ground, gurgling and chocking. He finally let out a grievous cough, then collapsed, dead.
Marcus stepped back into the cell, until he was up against the wall. The guards weren't going to let him get away with killing their friend. They had already unlocked the cell door and were advancing on him, swords in hand. Marcus gulped, hoping he could take them with only a bone knife.
