"Special assignment? What sort of assignment would require his leaving when we need troops as badly as we do?"
The lieutenant--all higher officers had been entangled in a strategy meeting--stood stiffly as he replied, "I'm sure I have no idea what the commander wishes for your friend to do, but I have been told only to relay to you what I have. Normally, you would have been treated to no information at all, but seeing as you brought this...ah, 'Crimson Mage' ((ooc: !)) you are allowed this much."
There was no reply; Kyro had left. It would have been fine for Elias to leave at almost any other time, but now, with what Kyro had to do...the mage would have been his only friendly ear (and mouth, which he had plenty of). Moral support was all he would have needed to supply, the exact thing the wyvern rider himself needed.
A choice needed to be made. Xander's message had been clear enough: he had met Stiletto at a fortress called Kerrigan, where the largest wild wyverns grew even larger in between mating seasons. Taming Stiletto had only added to Xander's prestige, and no one could forget it.
What would await there? Kyro had only to prepare and see.
First, rider and mount met, covertly agreed to a meeting place, then parted for rest. Supplies were then gathered: wyvern riders needed some anyway in case of injury, since such cripplings could take them farther than normal. A few articles--grease (actually for covering his bright armor), a head-cloth--were unusual, but unnoticed. The escape itself turned out easier than imagined: he would leave the tent, on the excuse of a latrine break (one wondered why the tactic never seemed to fail) and was soon in the air.
((For the sake of the readers, this will be divided into two posts...the good news is, I've figured out when I should write this stuff. XD The bad news? I write too much.))
