The Drunk and The Dragon (Fran x David)

[Fran]

(Takes place in "The land of Ice and Snow")

Fran was amazed, the snow felt nice and cool on her hand. She was an ice dragon, seeing snow or ice wasn't a new experience for her, but this snow was different, it didn't come from her breath when she was in dragon form.

Feeling too excited, Fran didn't see someone drinking in front of her while she was walking, or rather jumping. She bumped to him, his bottle fell to the snow. Fran could smell alcohol from him. The ice dragon felt guilty as she watched the bottle on the snow. "I-I am sorry..."

[David Krisby]

"Eh? Watch where you-" David turned around to see it was a young woman who had bumped into him. "Oh, don't sweat it, beauty." He picked up the bottle of whiskey he had dropped.

"Say, you don't look like you belong to this army, you aren't wearing any armor. Are you just a traveler that joined them as well? The name's David, I'm just a simple mercenary. Got caught up in this army on accident, I suppose." he said wistfully. There had been a lot on his mind lately, it didn't help that he wasn't fond of the military.

[Fran]

"B-Beauty?" Fran blushed, her white cheeks turned red. She stood there dumbfounded as David picked the bottle.

"Yes, I am a traveler. I joined because I met my childhood friend in a fort. I am just following him because I don't know where to go next." Fran looked at the man, he said he was a mercenary. "Nice to meet you David. I am Fran." She couldn't tell anyone about her identity as an ice dragon.

"Say, David. Where do you think this army is heading to?"

[David Krisby]

"Nice to meet you too." He stuck out the hand that wasn't carrying the bottle to shake hands with Fran.

"Yeah, I overheard the commander saying that we're heading to Arphen, that's the capitol, if you aren't familiar with Ilia. Though I'm not either, I've only lived here five years. The commander refused to tell me why we're going to Arphen. Very suspicious, if you ask me. Although, I probably wouldn't tell random mercenaries what I'd be doing with an army in Ilia either."

[Fran]

"Arphen? Isn't that the capital of Ilia? I read it in a book. Sorry, I just left my village for the first time." Fran hoped he wouldn't think she was dumb. Well, she only heard about the outside world from Athos or by reading books.

"The commander...Well, I think he is a good person. I don't know why, I just feel like that," she said. "The commander has pink hair, pink is cool." Wait, she started to sound like a mage who loved Red. But who was him?

"You are a mercenary. I bet you have visited many places. Could you share a story? I like to hear anything."

[David Krisby]

"Yes, I can see why you'd like the color pink." It was pretty obvious, the girl's hair could probably be spotted a mile away.

"A story, eh?" The girl was cute, so he obliged, although he didn't normally tell stories. "Well, one time I was out in the Western Isles doing pirate clean-up for a village there. The pirate leader called me out for a one-on-one swordfight, said his name was Roberts. I agreed, so we fought, while his pirate crew cheered him on, and my fellow mercenaries cheered me on. We were of equal skill with the blade, but I caught him off guard. I had actually been using my left hand to fight, rather than my right hand! He was so surprised, I was able to gain the upper hand in that battle cause I'm a bit better with my right than left. So, I was able to disarm him, but I let him go free when he promised to not harm the villagers anymore. He even asked me if I would be his successor to some pirate legacy, but I declined. How's that for a story?"

[Fran]

"Wow! You are smart. I wouldn't have that idea, switching hands. But I am not familiar with weapons after all." Fran's smile widened, she liked the story. The outside world was really fun.

"You know. I envy you, my life in my village was boring. My parents never allowed me to leave the desert. They finally gave me their permission after I begged many times." Fran sighed as she remembered her 500 years boring life. "Well, but I am here now."

"I hope my friend will take me to many interesting places someday. By the way, have you met my friend? His name is Marcus."

[David Krisby]

"The desert?!" David had heard of villages in Nabata, but there weren't that many people from there still. "You're from Nabata? Funny, I thought the sun made their skin tan. Still, sometimes a boring life is what I really want..." his thoughts again drifted to his past. Even if he had become a civilian rather than a mercenary, his past would still always be on his mind.

This girl, clearly there was more to her than she would say, but David didn't want to pry. "No, I haven't met your friend, Marcus, you say? I've only been around for a couple of hours, I haven't had the chance to meet everyone in the army." he laughed at his little joke there.

[Fran]

"Oh, well, that..." Fran looked down at her feet, thinking something to say. She had white skin, living in the desert wouldn't affect dragons despite how long they had stayed there. She could even cool herself if she felt hot. "I am just lucky, I guess..."

"Oh, you are right. I forgot you was new here like me." Fran laughed once, and then once again after he made a joke. She looked at him with a smile. "You are an interesting person David, people usually want something happened in their life. I believe you have your own reason, don't worry, I won't ask."

Fran looked to the sky, she wanted to fly just because looking to the vast sky. "What do you think about dragons, David? Do you hate them?"

[David Krisby]

"Lucky, huh?" David guessed that made sense. Maybe not everyone from Nabata had tan skin, he hadn't been down there often enough to know.

"Dragons, huh? That's an odd question, but you must be talking about the Scouring, right? I don't know that much about it myself, something about some battles against dragons and whatnot? I suppose if any were still around today I wouldn't hate them, as long as they didn't try to eat me or anything. Some people might say differently than me, but I always get to know someone before I decide whether or not to hate them." He suddenly recalled the Alaric kid. It didn't take David long to decide to hate him, funny that.

[Fran]

Fran smiled happily. "It's glad to hear that. I heard the majority of people hate and fear dragons." She moved her hair from her eyes. "Maybe because the history, the Scouring was a great war. No one could forget the fact that many died because of the Scouring."

The commanders, Richter and Marle, didn't have problem about her being a dragon. Fran stared to David, this man was same, it seemed he could accept her as a dragon. Anyway, sooner or later, he would know about her. They would be traveling together after all.

"Okay, then how if I tell you that I am a dragon, a real dragon. Will you believe me?" She giggled as she waited for his answer.

[David Krisby]

"What? You? A dragon? That doesn't make sense, aren't dragons supposed to be, yaknow, lizards or something? How could a cute girl like you be a dragon? I thought they had all died in the Scouring, wasn't that the point of that war?"

It sure seemed like an odd thing to say, she was probably just playing a trick on him. There was no way she could be a dragon, not a single way in a million years. It defied all logic, unless magic was involved, of course, but that's a different subject completely.

[Fran]

"What? Li-Lizard you said?" It was hurt to be compared with a lizard. Dragons weren't lizard, they were completely different. Well, they looked similar, but that didn't make them same. Fran shook her head and sighed, it was really hurt to hear that. "Geez, doesn't he know that we have 4 dragons in this army?" Fran hadn't met them but she could feel their presences.

"Dragons could use their power to transform to human form you know..." Fran replied. "Come with me!" Fran grabbed his sleeve and dragged her to an empty tent. She even used her power to make her hand super cold to punish him a little for comparing her to a lizard.

Inside, she stared at him. "Look!" She said then took off her necklace which was actually her dragon stone. "See. It is called dragons stone."

[David Krisby]

"What the-" without a chance to react, David had been dragged to a tent by Fran. Ouch! This girl has an icy grip. She feels like a dead body left in the snow, even. David only showed mild discomfort, so as not to upset her.

This was getting very awkward very fast. Thankfully, the girl had only wanted to show David a piece of jewelery. "A dragon's stone, eh?" He was no Jeweler, but even he could tell this was a gemstone of high quality. "So what are you gonna tell me now? That this stone holds a dragon's power or something?"

He could tell that she was upset by him teasing her, but David was a normal person with no knowledge of dragons. What was he supposed to know about them?

[Fran]

"Yes, it is." Fran closed her eyes, she tried to extract the power of the stone. The stone started glowing Fran's body. Soon, a blurry image appeared behind her, it looked like wings. It took three seconds before it shaped to be a pair of blue beautiful wings. Fran stared at him with a wide smile.

"David? Do you believe now?" She said as he patted his shoulder, of course, her hand was still cold.
