OoC: Hey people, if you aren't in a thread and in Northern Bern/Southern Sacae, then you can join.
BiC: Vashnar has been walking for a good 2 weeks, but he finally reached it: Bern, his home country and where his journey began. As he continued to walk, he looked to his left and in the far off distance was the remains of his hometown. Is it just me, or does the town look more burnt then usual? he thought to himself as he headed in that direction. As reaching there in the evening, he walked down the main street in the destroyed town, past the old inn, past the bakers shop (which was burned completely to the ground except for the foundations), past the butchers shop (still reeks of dead animals) and finally to a house that was on the verge of collapse.
The house windows were either smashed or gone, the roof had several holes in it where fire was but put out, the doors were either not present or kicked in, and the walls had several holes in which swords, axes and lances were thrust, chopped, or swung at the wooden walls. As Vashnar circled the house to out back, he saw what was still there after 14 years: the grave of his mother; who died giving birth to him and left his 4 year older sister to fill the role, and the grave of his father; a former mercenary who died defending his home, his neighbors, and his two children. As Vashnar looked at the sword that marked his father's grave, the memory of what happened that day came flooding back to him.

"Dad! Dad! look what I found!" a young child of four shouted as he ran towards his father, holding something in his arms. "Hm? what did you find today, son?" the man asked, chopping a piece of wood before turning around to face his son. "I found a baby rabbit, but its not breathing! what are we to do?" the child asked with a desperate look on his face. "I don't know how to tell you this, but its dead Vashnar. It's gone to a better place" his father put a hand on Vashnar's head as tears started to run down his face, making streaks in his dirty face. "Has it gone to the same place as mom? to where she went when I was born?" "Yes, to the place where your mother went" his father said as he looked at a portrait he keeps around his neck. The portrait was of a young woman in her twenties, with long brown hair and blue eyes. She was sitting in a chair with a baby girl in her lap; Vashnar's older sister. The woman was smiling and the baby girl was laughing. Turning around so Vashnar couldn't see his father's face, he told him in a gruff voice "Why don't you ask your sister to help dig a grave for the rabbit, maybe near the carrots. Rabbits like carrots" and as he heard his son run off, he looked to the sky and spoke softly "Charlissa" as tears rolled down his face. Wiping his sleeve across his face, Vashnar's father continued to chop wood. "Sister! Sister! can you help me make a grave for a dead rabbit?" Vashnar shouted as he ran into the house. Looking around, he decided to run out back, where he found his sister working in the garden, with both her dress and hands were dirty from working in the afternoon but her dark brown hair was tied into a long braid down her back. As she turned around, Vashnar heard "You found a dead rabbit? poor thing!" his sister exclaimed, getting up and looking at the dead animal. "Hadar, what are we supposed to do? dad said we should put it in the carrot patch". After tapping one finger on her cheek, she nodded and picked up the shovel while saying "lets put in between the carrot and the turnip patches, because everyone knows rabbits love vegtables" "Yeah! and they like to hop around too!" Vashnar shouted as a smile spread across his face. Later that evening, when their father was telling them the Tale of the Eight Legends, a man knocked on their door. Getting up and putting Hadar and Vashnar back in the armchair, he answered the door. "What's going on? I thought most people would either be at evening church or at home" "It's bandits! bandits are coming down from the mountains! all the women and children are to be in the church and the men are to arm themselves!" the villager told him before running back into town, where everyone is running about franticly. "Come on kids, we have to go to everyone else" Goff (Vashnar's father) told them as he picked up his sword and picked up Hadar and Vashnar grabbed his pants leg. As the sun started to set, people of the town could see the torches of bandits as they made their decent down the mountains. Vashnar looked out the window as he saw Goff give orders to the other men of the town, having encountered bandits when he was still a mercenary. "We're fighting for our homes, for our family and for our lives! You are men of Bern, you will not let your wives and children be taken into slavery!" Goff shouted before turning to face the bandits with his sword drawn. In the church, women and children were huddled together near the altar with the priest and some men holding anything they could find; hoes, shovels, wood chopping axes, shovels, pitchforks. Not everyone in the town had bows, lances or swords. Those who do where with Goff as they fought to bandits. after hearing the sounds of steel clashing against steel and people screaming, the doors to the church burst open, and four bandits came rushing in, killing the men with their axes in seconds. "You dare desecrate the church with killing the innocent? May St. Elimine preserve us!" the Priest shouted as he opened his Divine tome and started to fight the bandits, only to have an arrow fetched with crow feathers pierce his heart. With a rush of adrenaline though his body, Vashnar picked up a axe, and cut the hand off of a bandit that tried to take a women's daughter away from her. "AH! YOU SON OF A B--" the bandit screamed before Goff stabbed the man in the stomach. "Vashnar, are you ready to help your father and the men of the town protect our families?" Goff asked before tussling Vashnar's hair and saying "Stay here and protect Hadar and everyone else. I'll be back" before leading the remaining 10 men back into the fight outside. Suddenly, the back door to the church was kicked in, and more bandits streamed in. In the mist of confusion, screams, laughter, and people getting taken away, Vashnar felt his sister tug his hand and shout "we need to get to father!" as they made their way outside with some other people, only to find more bandits waiting for them. "VASHNAR!" Hadar screamed as a man with an axe grabbed her and slung her over his shoulder, only to have a sword go through his throat. "GET AWAY FROM MY KIDS!" Goff shouted as he started to fight 8 bandits with two swords. As Vashnar and Hadar ran, Vashnar looked back to see that his father and the remaining men start to gain the upper hand. Then, a bandit snuck up behind them both and punched Vashnar in the gut, making him cough up blood as he grabbed Hadar by the hair. "So, you're the town's chieftain's kids, eh? I thought the young boy would be a better fighter. But you? you'll fetch a fair price all right" the man sneered before Hadar shoved a sewing needle into his left eye. "AH! YOU LITTE GIRL! I'LL KILL YOU!" the man shouted before Vashnar swung the axe down on the man's head. "Come on! we have to get back to everyone else!" Hadar said as they made their way back to Goff. when they reached him, he looked backed at them as said "What are you doing? RU-" as a bandit arrow made its way into his chest. "DAD!" they both cried as bandits started to close in all around them. "You......bastards.........I've told you before........GET AWAY FROM MY KIDS!" Goff screamed as his eyes were filled with fury. cutting down the nearest two bandits, Goff fought on until he finally died from several cuts, four arrows, two sword wounds to the gut and stomach, and axe cut on his right shoulder. In Goff's final moments, he watched as his son fought on and his daughter get taken away as the bandits ran away. Looks like I couldn't protect our children any longer Charlissa he thought before his eyes glazed over and shut them for the last time.

As Vashnar opened his eyes, he realized he was back in the present, with tears running down his face. As he wiped them from his face, Vashnar picked two white lilies that were growing nearby and placed one on both of his parent's graves. "I swear father, I will not rest until I find Hadar and get vengeance on the bastards that killed you" as he started to walk away, the eyes of hatred back in his eyes.
