I can't even recognize myself. His reflection in the water stared back at him silently. With a grunt, me crashed his hands into the pool, disrupting the water with countless ripples and waves. Splashing the cool liquid on his face.
"So this is the rendezvous point? It's in the middle of nowhere." Of course it was, that way Bern wouldn't be able to find them as easily. Hidden under a dense canopy of trees in the middle of the woods near a small lake, the fake soldier lead them here. This was where they were to wait, there was even someone here waiting for them when they landed. It made sense, he just couldn't help but question it. One wrong move and he's back to where he just escaped, and he was NOT doing that. It felt like months since he could feel the sunshine on his skin, the cool breeze and frigid air of Bern. They even had his armor stashed here, along with his weapons. This had been planned for a long time now. It shouldn't surprise him, it really shouldn't, but it did.
"Yep." He simply replied. "There's an emissary coming soon, to see if we were successful or if you were dead." He talked off hand, dressed in leather and stringing a bow. Much different looking then his initial impression. The other person who had been waiting there was tending to the two wyverns, and it seems that the small group would be visited again soon by yet another person. "We'll figure where to go afterwards."
"I see..." Aidan muttered, slowly running the sharp blade over his face. Hacking away at the beard built up by the long incarceration. Clean shaven, well clean-er shaven, he turned around to the others. "Now would probably be a good time to leave before any of you get in too deep." It was as if Aidan took the time to turn every situation into a 'point of no return' type deal. "Things are undoubtedly only going to get even hazier now. Now would be the best time to simply leave the country, before things get out of hand."

And there you had it. The four had just pulled off the single greatest and daring escape this generation of mankind had ever seen, and brought the face of the rebellion to full scale. Lyar would have taken this moment to be proud of their accomplishment. Hell, he'd probably grab Syana, Saturos, and Aidan, and force them to dance a jig with him if it wasn't a serious situation. They just busted out a well known figure...if they weren't waste deep in the big muddy now, then they obviously weren't trying hard enough.
Which is why it should have come to no surprise when Lyar held out his canned ham sized, open with fingers together, and gave Aidan a brotherly slap across the face. Hard," I think it's too late to get out once we break a man like you out of jail, Aidan. Now get your head outta yer butt and stop trying to leave your team behind." Short, sweet, and to the point...with some violence involved, Typical Lyar way of handling things.

He could of swore he heard his neck pop from the force behind it, but to be quite honest the man probably would of slapped himself long before if the tables were turned. That didn't change anything though. "It's not that... I want to leave any of you behind." He held his jaw, feeling it as he shifted it around. "In fact, I don't think I could ask for a better group, even if the heroes of the scouring were here themselves." He let go of his face, offering a small smile. "That's why I say these things, I don't want anyone to die because of me." There it was, he winced as he spoke, poking at some raw wound that never healed properly with a particularly sharp stick.
"But..." He stopped his self, before he could do anything particularly unmanly and girlish like talk about his feeeelings. "That was pretty incredible." He smirked. "They didn't even know what hit'em." He should really try to be more happy. "No one even realized we were outta there until halfway out the city, you could hear the people go wild when they saw the wyverns bolt outta that place. It's gonna be hard to keep them quiet."
"Thank you, I don't think it could of been possible if you listened to me and just left the millions of times I asked. I owe my life to your stubbornness." He added with short bark of laughter. "Well, I won't say you can't leave at anytime. But maybe I should stop trying to make you, it's never worked before." The best way to stop them from dying because of him is to simply not let them die, it's why he became a knight after all. To protect people.

"Ugh, remind me to never do that again," groaned groggy Saturos, a little bit airsick. With a bit of a lurch, the myrmidon stumbled off of his wyvern as his two comrades conversed. It was official. He hated wyverns. Flying wyverns. Disregarding his near fatal encounter with one previously, the big scaly brutes had such wavy, undulating flight patterns, he was surprised neither Lyar nor Aidan looked the slightest bit ill right now. As one who prided himself on his constitution, it was a bit of an insult, but he wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Besides, they had just escaped from the belly of the beast! That was cause to celebrate. He could finally take off this stuffy armor, which he did, vigorously and rapidly, letting the metal plates fall to the dirt.
But of course, Aidan had to piss on the parade, suggesting they shove off again. In all his life, Saturos wasn't sure he'd ever met a man so...dour. Sure, Richter was in the running, but that pink haired youth had always had that dash of teenage rebellion in him. Aidan, well, Adian definitely didn't have any teenage rebellion in him, though he did seem moderately rushed by their incredible escape.
"Mate, there's hope for you yet," pointed out Saturos, placing a hand on Aidan's armored shoulder, "but you really shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. I'm sworn to your service, for better or for worse, and that's not about to change. If I die, I die. If I live, I live. What matters is that we did something." The Etrurian then took a step back, cracking his knuckles as he scanned the grove from left to right. It was a quaint little place that reminded him of his old grove back in the Etrurian woods. He'd come a long way since then. It felt...good, to be back in action.
As the myrmidon's thoughts wandered, a plain looking woman approached them from behind a tree. She wore a grey cotton shirt with a brown leather jacket thrown over it, a tight fitting pair of black leather pants, and wore her hair in a loose fitting ponytail. Suspicious, she slowly made her way over to the three of them, before noticing the rebel that had helped them escape from the castle. Recognizing her comrade, she loosened up, and finished her approach.
"Aidan Lowell?" she asked curiously.

"Yes. Hope." He cocked a brow but remained stern in face. He didn't say anything else, but he felt a bit odd hearing Saturos' intentions. It felt so alien, usually he was the one doing the swearing to honor. Never did he expect it in reverse, after all he wasn't particularly an inspiring symbol. He was free to leave any time, Aidan would never stop him, but he knew better to fight with someone's honor. You see, it was a tricky thing, it causes people to die for foolish reasons. It causes people to live lifes that others couldn't even imagine, and feeling perfectly content with yourself. Breaking an oath, it was such a powerful guilt... that some could not simply live with it. They would prefer to die with it intact, then to die with it shattered. He knew this all first hand, betraying someone you are sworn too... Even with it shattered, even after being lead by a fool king who caused so much chaos, even against such an impossible odds, he was sworn to Bern. And he would fight for it as long as he drew breath, no matter what it meant.
Just as he was getting into the really deep and potentially disturbing thoughts, he was snapped out of his stupor by a young woman. "Oh, aye, I am Aidan Lowell." One may say it was kinda dumb to reveal his self to whoever just comes by, but after all that, the only people who'd know where they are were the rebellion. "I will suppose you are the messenger?"
"Leana, don't worry. It is, I mean look at the scar and everything." The archer smirked, coming closer to the woman who approached them. "I wouldn't of made a mistake and taken the wrong prisoner, and X DEFINITELY wouldn't of made such a mistake." He took a moment to think. "Come to think of it, Aidan was the only prisoner there. Huh. Kinda odd. Oh well, it turned out to be a good thing. No witnesses."
Yes, there was something a bit too, well, convenient about it all. Though, once again, it was something that really shouldn't surprise the knight.

"No, no he wouldn't have," Leana muttered, shifting her weight from her right leg to her left. She seemed ill at ease, as if she was uncomfortable around these strangers, Saturos observed. But did he blame her? Aidan wasn't exactly the most cuddly looking man, Lyar was a giant, and he himself always tended to give off a "wierd" vibe. Well, at least that's what people liked to tell him. What was so weird about a little face paint and a shirtless torso? Really...
"Sir," continued Leana, stiffly, turning her attention back to the Lowell, "I'm glad our men managed to pull you out of that fortress. The rebellion would have been worse off with you dead." She paused, nodding, then slowly looked to the soldier who had accompanied Aidan and his motley crew out of Castle Bern. The man nodded back, as if in reply, to which Leana took a deep breath.
"Sir Lowell, we need your help. We have managed to confirm a...very special objective that would greatly, um, further the resistance's fight against the, uh, Ilian occupation. The messenger shuffled a bit, glancing at Lyar and Saturos, clearly very nervous. Saturos concluded she wan't much of a people person. "We've tried securing it ourselves, but, um, the thing is, we're pretty sure we need you"

"It's alright, you can relax." He tried to put her at ease, a futile effort to be sure, but an effort all the same. He couldn't say he blamed her, until recently he has always been uncomfortable in situations like this his self. Maybe it was, well it was probably a lot of things really, he was more at ease. It might of had something to do with all the responsibility that gradually gets piled on higher and higher upon his back, forcing him to either adapt or be crushed underneath it all. Good for him, and the rebellion he supposed, he was rather good at adapting.
The archer looked at the girl, and nodded, a quick gesture that caught the knight's attention. He probably knew what the message was before the messenger even came. "Well, whatever is this object?" What could be so important that the first thing they ask of him after escaping was to help find it, what could be so hard to obtain that the rebellion specifically needed his help? He tried to smile, but of course the look felt alien to his face, he was never good at forcing emotion. Make a horrible actor.

Leana glanced down at the ground and took a deep breath, calming herself. She then looked back up at Aidan, a bit of anticipation in her eyes. This was a big deal. A really big deal. If they could pull this off, Bern would be independent again!
"It's the royal seal of Bern, Sir Lowell," she replied, balling her hands up into fists. "The Fire Emblem. We think we've located it..." The girl swallowed harshly. It felt like there was a walnut in her throat. "We think we've located it east of here, in an old castle. We tried to get in, but a cult that calls themselves the 'Sons of Bern' had already taken up residence in the castle. They wouldn't let us in. They said they were waiting for the king." Leana shook her head. "Our rebellion doesn't have the resources to go raiding castles over educated rumors, but my superiors thought that, if you were alive and well, the cult might accept you, a Lowell, into the gates. If you could make the blade work, you could rally all of Bern behind you!" The messenger girl jumped with excitement, then, realizing her outburst, quickly stifled herself. Quiet, her cheeks burned red with embarrassment as she waited for Aidan to respond.
Meanwhile, Saturos stood by, a bit incredulous at the claims. The Fire Emblem? The true royal seal? None of the sacred artifcats of Bern had been seen since the Bandit War, so it was all too possible that some crazy cult had gotten their hands on it and hid it away. "I say we check it out," the myrmidon claimed. "I mean, it's not like it could hurt."

"The... The Fire Emblem?" He couldn't say he was expecting those words to have come up. It has been lost for over five years, no one knew where it went after the bandit war, and now it has resurfaced. All of a sudden, as if it was a touch of fate. And if it wasn't fate, it was one hell of a coincidence. With that, with the Fire Emblem, the people would see... They would see Bern as being able to be it's own country once more! The words of the woman washed over the knight, and while he absorbed every word, his mind was lost in them. Each extra sound that came from her only seemed to pound everything in just that much harder.
His name, his family, the Lowells. Nobles, dukes of Bern. It all came to that once again, it was almost a cruel joke. In trying to escape it, he found his self running headfirst into it. No, he wasn't trying to escape it anymore, not now, but months ago when he hid in Lycia. He would of never seen his self like he is now, he would of never accepted it. However, here was, a symbol of rebellion and heading to receiving the Royal Crest of Bern. It was funny. "That's... amazing. To think it could of been so close to us all, and we never even noticed." Aidan took a moment to think it all over, or rather another moment, since he's been doing a lot of thinking in the first place. "Well, I don't see any harm in trying."
Hrm, odd thought, him possibly being called "king" by these people. Him, a King, it was a laughable thing. He wasn't even the head of his own house, this journey was for the Fire Emblem, and nothing else. "Thank you madam." He nodded his head to the blushing lass, she seemed to flustered to properly respond. A small smirk spread across the knight's face. Straight out of the frying pan and into the fire, eh? Suits him, he wouldn't have it any other way. Idle time was wasted time. "Lets go meet these "Sons of Bern" maybe we'll even get lucky. Elmine knows I could use some good luck about now."
