Aeros was cornered, in a sense; yes, he could probably fight his way through the two humans--three, if the swordsman joined in--but that would probably antagonize the rest of the village, and, in his experience, veteran fighters tended to come out of the woodwork whenever a dragon made itself obvious. He had been fortunate that only Hal, Elesia, and Sol had seen him, and that none of them had seen fit to alert the rest of the village. In all likelihood, he could escape fairly easily; the other two didn't seem like they wanted a direct fight.
...Yet he was still being chased off, reminding him of exactly why he had chosen to leave on his own terms every time previous. Even that hardened rage against the monsters that had infested the village was burning down, leaving only the realization that, once again, this world did not want anything to do with his kind.
How different from the last group of armed humans he had sought to ally himself with. Crowley's group had certainly been something special, if not to anyone else, at least to Aeros.
The manakete looked between the mage and the wyvern rider--and Abel, even though the swordsman was...doing something besides trying to chase him off--and his hard expression faded. Any thought of interrogating the two, extracting an outlet for his desire to hunt, disappeared as well. After a half of a moment, he had made his decision.
There was still a chance to simply fight them off, capture one of them, ask a simple question, such a simple question.
The mere thought steeled him. No matter what these two thought of him now, he wasn't a monster.
...Was he?
At the wyvern rider's apology, Aeros sagged a little more, let his wings hang out more, and turned to leave, answering with a, "Don't be," without turning his head. He couldn't bring himself to be bitter, slipping into the skeleton that was the outer town, not at all regretting leaving so much as why...
He needed to leave on his own terms from now on, that was for sure. But the manakete knew that there was something out there that demanded his attention, at least, even if he had no leads...he would find it. There was something in him that wanted blood, violence, the glory of victory; there was another that shook in fear at the first, desperate to avoid the darkness, the chaos, the love of death and destruction. Both sides agreed that there were abominations in Elibe that needed to disappear.

The realization that something was wrong hit as soon as the younger boy reacted, long before he spoke, but the bitter tinge to his words belied the avalanche of emotion she could vaguely feel beneath the surface. Even knowing nothing about him or his nature, there was a deep sadness that was impossible to miss, an emptiness that was all too familiar the forest waif.
The pillar of fire towering over her right arm slowly dissipated in fits and starts, a phantasmal rainbow of flickering embers that burnt away into nothingness. They had... done the right thing, right? Abel's speech hadn't sounded very zombie-ish, and the other boy had just... left without even trying to eat them. Not - not that he could have, she reassured herself, but it seemed an empty victory given how defeated he had seemed as he departed.
Her right arm still seemed warm as Elesia hugged herself with both arms, shivering in the aftermath of the heat as well as a torrent of emotion. flowing through her. Had she... done something really bad? But Sol hadn't liked them either, and animals had keener senses than people, right? Nothing would dampen the raw emotion she had felt in Aeros as he left, though, the absolute knowledge that something had been horribly wrong with how she had seen the scene going.
Still looking blankly in the direction Aeros had left, she quietly spoke again, her words aimed as much at herself as Hal or Sol. "...We did the right thing... didn't we?"

Sol took a couple steps forward as Aeros had took off in flight watching him leave then shot his head back looking towards the motionless Hal. It took a couple of seconds for Hal to register Sol's movements, looking Sol in the eyes as he peered at the boy he shook his head then dismounted. What was a victory to Sol was a relief to Hal, Sol was able to intimidate the winged boy into fleeing proving he was the alpha male around these parts, Hal was happy to an extent to avoid confrontation with the another human being. Hal turned to look at Elesia who was now holding herself Hal felt just as bad as she appeared to once she questioned what they had just done.
Hal walked over towards Elesia and wrapped his arms around her pulling her close and placing her head on his chest. "I... Don't know... But it's good that he left... I couldn't stop Sol. I didn't want to hurt him... I just couldn't stop Sol... We'll see him again one day, we'll make it right then." Hal kissed Elesia on the forehead after making her that promise. This event proved that Hal was a failure of a wyvern rider, maybe he should give up on that dream. "I'm sorry..." Hal whispered to nobody in general.

Hal was warm in a different way than her fire, a heat that calmed and caressed rather than consuming all in its path in inchoate evolution. Without having an answer to Hal's words, she slumped against his chest, caught as much inside herself as in the moment; she had felt as though she had finally figured out how to be human by fighting the undead creatures, saving people and things; people had thanked her for it, tolerated her in exchange for her work, and that had felt - good. Certainly much better than being chased out of town for being a thieving little runt.
But now... Elesia struggled with the realization that there was more to it than that, that she had obviously not mastered being a person if she still couldn't understand why Aeros had left so dejectedly rather than revealing his true nature as a demon zombie. If he... wasn't, she was forced to face, then what had he actually been? What if Abel hadn't been undead either, and she had judged both of them completely wrong? Then all of this would be her fault, and people who might have been... like Hal... driven away. "...Do you think they... might have been friends, if I hadn't done that?"
The thought of blaming Sol came to mind, but she thrust it from her mind, dimly aware of how false her words would be even if she did not understand the morality of it. "It was... me, not Sol... I'm sorry, Hal?" She trailed off in a pleading tone, looking up at her only friend in the world with desperate eyes; she needed him to not hate her for it, to say something, anything.

Hal was speechless, he still didn't fully understand what just happened or why. He didn't like that Abel guy, he was a part of something that Hal had thought to be very wrong and he didn't even know the full story before helping the rebels. Elesia seemed so sad he didn't have the heart to answer her question about them being friends with them. She had apologized and looked at him with those eyes, why did she have to give him a look like that. "N-No!" He couldn't explain why but his voice crackled as he spoke. "You didn't do anything wrong. It's my fault. I couldn't stop Sol, I told him he needed to go and you got the wrong impression by mistake."
Hal had felt extremely bad, his inability to control his partner led up to a huge misunderstanding and such a look upon Elesia's pretty face. The now lifeless corpse were never the monster, it was Hal. The crowd had seemed to get a little bit louder so Hal shoot a quick glance towards them and met eyes with Elesia once again. Last time Elesia was this close to Hal was when the zombies first attack, they made it to the crowd and she had a panic attack. "Do you want to go somewhere more quite and away from people?"

She hadn't even realized Hal was distressed as well until beginning to come down from her emotional high, realizing that the sadness she had been feeling was not entirely her own; Hal was having issues of his own, problems she didn't quite understand but could feel the weight of nonetheless. A reminder that other people had problems, too... not that she desperately cared about most, but Hal had been too nice to her for her not to care, so if she could help a little bit, maybe it would be like paying him back?
"I c-could have helped hold him back..." Pushing herself off of Hal, she glanced guiltily at where the Aeros had been, the same line of thought still bumping around in her brain. "Do you think he'll be okay?" Impulsively, she stepped back towards Hal, wrapping him in a giant bear hug before pushing back with a hesitant smile pasted to her face. "D-don't worry, I'll.. help more next time. But... away from people sounds good. For now. Though... are the people in the house safe and ok and stuff?"

Hal would being lying if he said he didn't enjoy her hugging him like that, the proof was in the smile that came to his face when she had hugged him."It's okay Elesia, you were trying to help in your own way. I'm sure he'll be fine, he may just need some space for now. I think the others are alright, well by the amount of noise their all making I hope so. If anything they have those big strong guys to protect them better than I could." Hal picked up his armor then reached out and gently grabbed Elesia's hand as the two wondered towards the house where they first ran into Aeros, he didn't want to just break into somebody's home and this one did have a big hole in it. Hal walked in silence, he wanted to savor this moment as the world around him has gone to hell. As Hal and Elesia had began to enter the home Sol whined, it was too small for him to fit without problems so he laid down.
Hal had dropped the breastplate by the hole and went to the living room and sat down on the couch they had. "Elesia... About earlier, it's not your fault. Ever since we met we've seen some things that nobody would have ever thought of. Nobody can say what you did was wrong, if they want to then they have to deal with me." Hal gave her a cheesy grin as he puffed out his chest and put his hands to his sides.

Abel watched silently as the two began to blame themselves for what had transpired. Elesia's words still rang in his ears.
"...We did the right thing... didn't we?" Abel had asked himself a similar question many times. He had found an answer for it, but that didn't keep his past from haunting him. Specifically one man he still owed a debt to.
Abel looked up to see his 'companions' leaving. He looked back at the rowdy crowd. I suppose they'll be ok, he thought, turning to follow the other two. Besides, I think I should keep up with these two.
Keeping his distance, Abel followed behind Hal and Elesia, thinking of what he should do. Well these two supposedly want to be hero's, he thought while looking at the ground, but they don't seem to understand what that means. I still have yet to know what exactly it means.
The two went inside a house with a hole in it, so he sat outside with Sol. He ignored the wyvern as he sat against the house, sighing in relief. Finally, I get to sit. He looked back at the wyvern, wondering if he should say something to it. He sighed again and drew his sword to inspect it.

"Yeah, I really helped out there, huh?" Uncharacteristically bitter for her, the words were tinged by a regretful, unfocused anger; at herself, at the situation, but... not at Hal. He was just trying to help. She regretted her words immediately. "...Sorry. I just - I don't know what to do." Yet another reminder that she was still hopelessly out of her element around people! If being a hero was as easy as just yelling it a lot, everything would be so much easier - but it wasn't, and she still had a long way to go.
At least she had Hal this time, though. That was - new. Elesia wasn't used to having anyone to back her up or be willing to tolerate her antics after getting to know her in the least, so it was strangely nice to have an actual friend trying to help. Alien, but warm. Screwing her face up in an attempt to look less dour, she managed to put on a small but genuine smile, placing one hand on her... friend's arm in a gesture of - something. She wasn't really sure what. "Um. Thanks. For being nice to me and stuff. Let's... keep being heroes, 'kay?"
The hubbub outside was enough to entirely ruin the moment, of course, and Elesia welcomed the chance to avoid giving Hal much of an immediate opportunity to reply and make the situation even more awkward than she had managed by derping her way to the hole in the wall in short order just in time to find Sol being decidedly unhappy. As usual. This time, with decent reason; that green haired zombie guy had followed them. Or... not zombie guy. Cringing at the initial realization, she forced herself to soldier on, cautiously approaching Abel with a hesitant smile. "Uh. I might've been wrong about you being, um, you know, a dead person. ...Sorry. You can, uh, come with us. If you want. This town is pretty, you know, sucky in general."
Hal would prrrrooooooobably be fine with this plan, right?
Yeah, she decided, nothing could go wrong!

Yep, definitely going to need to see a smith about this, Abel thought, eyeing his blade. He had moved to a crouching position to better inspect it. Dang, where am I-
"Uh. I might've been wrong about you being, um, you know, a dead person. ...Sorry. You can, uh, come with us. If you want. This town is pretty, you know, sucky in general," Elesia said, interupting his thoughts. Abel tried not to jump when her voice broke the silence. She seemed to of been having a really ruff day and he didn't want her to start apologizing about everything.
"Oh, uh, it's fine," Abel said, looking up from his sword. She had a... smile, if you could call it that, so he smiled back. "Well, I suppose it's an honest mistake, it is hard to see things clearly in the thick of battle." He used his sword to pull himself to his feet. Though honestly, I don't look like a rotting corpse do I?
"And of course I'll come," Abel continued, whipping his sword into it's sheath in one clean motion. "Though I'm not sure how Hal would take it. He... doesn't seem to like me much." He looked at the ground and rubbed the back of his neck. The swordsman felt akward talking about the man bhind his back, and he didn't think talking bad about Hal would really work in his favor. Abel looked back up and said,"So, uh, anyways, where are we off to?"

"I... Uh... Your... Welcome...?" Hal mumbled as she ran off. He was confused to why she was thanking him, it's not like it she was making it hard to be nice to her. The next thing he heard was Elesia talking to Abel, oh great she was talking to him. Why did he have to follow them here and more importantly why was Elesia talking to him?
Hal didn't want to do anything with him, he helped the rebels start up and now his home town could turn into a battlefield over control of it's resources. He laid down watching the hole, when Elesia comes in he would pretend to be asleep.

"Oh, I'm, uh, sure that you two will get along awesome!" Clapping with enthusiasm she wasn't sure was genuine, Elesia forced herself to stop worrying for the moment, replacing the void with optimism. Wasn't like she could very well just stop feeling anything, right? "You just need to - you know, bond and stuff. Guys do that, right?" Yes, she knew exactly what she was talking about, as was obvious to anyone with half a brain, because how else would she have known to suggest something so brilliant?
Elesia shrugged expressively, a rolling movement of the shoulders than more than adequately communicated her total lack of knowledge of where they were actually supposed to be heading. Not that that kept her from deciding anyways, with a smile erupting onto her face. "I'm pretty tired of this town, though. Stupid dumb dead people and crap eeeeeverywhere. We should totally ditch and go back to the other town, where me an' Hal..." she paused, her face falling, "...fought off more zombies. Forgot 'bout that. But it's totally safe and stuff now, and they totally like us there, so I think we should head thataways."
Pirouetting in place for dramatic effect, Elesia pointed at Sol just in case her words were not completely clear. "I'm sure Hal will be totally fine with us taking Sol, I bet he's totally awesome enough to carry all of us at once. Sol that is. I don't think Hal could lift you. Maybe not even me. I can totally pick him up though I bet! Actually, let me go get him."
And by get, she meant... literally. No sooner had Elesia bounded into the house than she grabbed Hal around the waist and made a valiant effort to hoist him over her shoulder, completely unperturbed by the minor fact that he was apparently asleep. "C'mon, we're going ADVENTURING!"

Hal had noticed Elesia beginning to enter the home so he shut his eyes quickly. Next thing he knew Elesia's arms were wrapped around his waist talking about adventures, he twisted in Elesia's arms breaking loose. Bad idea, Hal fell face first onto the floor. "Owwwwwwwww.' Hal began to rub his right cheek as he moaned in pain. "What the heck were you doing? What adventure are you talking about?"
Hal had to fight back the urge to scream at Elesia for just picking him up like that, but at the same time it was his fault. Sitting up he looked at her with a mixture of anger and guilt. Hal sat there for a few seconds before getting to his feet, rubbing his cheek still. 'Anyways any adventure we're going on is to the other town to let the guy know his family is dead." Hal almost knew he would be coming along too, he dreaded hearing Elesia tell him that.

Elesia's antic brought a smile to Abel's face. It reminded him of him. He leaned his back against the side of the broken house and eyed Sol. The wyvern seemed to stare back, unblinking. Even he doesn't like me Abel thought, remembering the beating he had goten earlier from the wyvern.
"Beautiful, isn't he?" Marco said as he came around the corner. "Always a nice sight, a wyvern. Just like this sword." He held up the the old, grey blade. "You should take it with you, you might need it."
"It's not mine, it should have gone to him," Abel said, not wanting to speak his name. He didn't like saying it, it brought up painful memories.
"And yet it was passed to you," Marco said, holding out the sword, blade down. "You have the strength to use it, not him. You may need it one day." Abel moved from the wall and reluctantly took the sword. Marco handed him the sheath and stepped back.
"Well, now that that's done, I do believe the town has lost it," Marco said, chuckling. "I'm going to try and calm them. Good luck to you son." He began walking away and turned back. "Oh, and I have this-" He tossed Abel a bottle of something- "hope it helps." And he left.
Abel quickly slipped the bottle into his pouch and then looked at the sword. I might have to use it? Hopefully noisnt the house. I hope we leave soon. This place has brought back stuff I'd care to forget.

"Alright, but no backsies!" Pirouetting in place in building excitement at the twin prospects of another adventure AND getting out of this dumb sucky town, Elesia found herself floating on air. Not literally, though that gave her some Ideas(tm) for later, but lots of happy. "And, and, I totally recruited another party member! 'Cuz, you know, weapons tesseract!" Not bothering to pause and worry too much about what each side meant what, much less why Hal didn't seem to be quite as excited as she was, she continued. "It turns out the green zombie guy was, like, totally NOT a zombie. Whoda thunk, right? I mean I totally knew the truth but he even almost fooled me! BUT THE EYES OF TRUTH KNOW ALL."
Accepting personal responsibility for her own lapses in judgement: not one of Elesia's strong points.
"But I mean I guess he seems ok despite all that, so I figured that you might like another friend, and the more the funner. And stuff." Also, if they got attacked by zombies again, they could totally use another meatshield, but that didn't seem very heroic to say. "Soooooo..." she nudged him with a toe, still grinning from ear to ear, "wakey wakey, sleepyhead! We have ADVENTURESING to do!"
Hopping backwards just in case he turned into a bear or tried to eat her foot, Elesia spun and positively pranced to the door, sticking her head out at speeds that rivaled an emerald volcanic eruption... of hair. Not the best metaphor, in retrospect. "HEY. Green not-zombie guy! Uhh..." She paused, thinking; one could almost hear the lone hamster in the wheel powering her brain struggling to keep up. "Abel... Burritos, right? And BYE MISTER OTHER ABEL. Anyways, uh, I think Hal needs to freshen up, he didn't get enough beauty sleep, but we're prrrrrrobably just about ready to go and I think he's fine with it. ...And please don't sword him I think he's just grumpy."
