Hal chuckled, him "cool"? He put his arm around Elesia and pulled her slightly closer. "Of course it will take a couple of days, they need to make it, and I'm quite sure I looked like a stumbling fool out there. If anybody was cool, it was you. You were all like 'ZIP ZAM POW! and blew that one's head straight to the moon." He leaned his head towards Elesia, resting his check on the top of her head.
"Why should I be rewarded for selfish acts? I did nothing to help them, I wanted to take you and flee. I grew up learning to refuse handouts, they should be used for those who need them not those who can earn a living." Hal had learned his morals from his parents, some times they had felt like a pain but at the end of the day he had felt good about himself. Elesia had seemed so... wild, in her appearance and manners at times.
"Elesia, could you tell me more about you?"

"Well, y-yeah, of course I... um." The fight was draining out of her quickly, leaving her a puddle of uncertainty and indecision. Dammit why had he been sad about people being nice? "B-but we won because of working together. You had to make the, um, holes. It took me a lot of fire to take down one of them if they weren't focused on you." She hadn't really thought about it at the time, actually, but they had been a preetty good team. Not exactly on the same page in every possible way, but somehow they had managed to keep each other alive, so they had been doing something right. "We can both be cool, right?" She smiled, nestling a little closer. "I mean, I can share."
LITTLE DID HE KNOW, SHE COULDN'T.
"Anyways uh-" she was fishing for an actual answer to his words, she knew it, but without any real idea how to answer all she could do was fumble about for something that sounded smart. He seemed genuinely broken up about it, and she wanted to help. "But even if you did it for someone else, in the end you helped them too, right? Without us there would be more people dead. Maybe all of them. I think -" she paused hesitantly, not sure how to phrase it "-you're too sad about the why and how and stuff when you could be focusing on how what you did helped lots of people. And you aren't, um, being mean about it right? Like you aren't asking people for free stuffs, they're just giving it to you. I think it would be even more mean to say no and, uh, make them sad about not being able to do anything for you?"
Yeah that had made... a lot more sense in her head. Aaaand he wanted to know about her. Elesia suddenly found herself wishing that she had a dark and mysterious past. Maybe that she couldn't remember anything from more than a year ago. That would be super romantic and cool! "It's uh not very interesting. I mean I guess I had parents and stuff, and I got older, and now here I am?" Why would he want to know about her, anyways? Not much to tell really. She could talk about bears, she supposed, but beyond that she was drawing a blank.

Elesia had thought Hal was cool, he couldn't change that. "So you really think I was cool out there? I wish I could have saw it too. But I had never really asked how many people were killed or hurt, some of them could of ended up worse then the two of us. They should be more worried about them, all I needed was some healing and a change of clothes and I would have been fine. I just feel bad because I can do more than fight for my survival to help them to pay for this stuff."
Elesia had seemed to dodge his question by giving a very vague answer. He figured she was a runaway just like him, she had her reasons too. "I.... Umm...." Hal wasn't really sure how to respond, did he push the subject more or just let it go? "Halesia! The boy skewers'em while the girl roast'em. Everybody across the land will speak of how cool they are." Hal was rubbing his hand up and down her shoulder as he spoke of how 'awesome' the duo is going to be. He figured if she was going to indulge him of her past she will when she's ready. Plus it would be rude to make her talk about it if he isn't ready to tell her his story.

"Well... yeah, some of them probably got messed up worser than us, but that's kinda their fault. Strong people survive, weak ones don't." Morality at its least politically correct, but Elesia didn't see the point of sugar-coating it. If the people had been able to defend themselves, they wouldn't have died. She hadn't been strong enough either, but at least she was alive. She wasn't ashamed of her outlook in the slightest, but hastened to soften the comment in case Hal wasn't happy with it - she didn't really care about most of those people, though it was nice to have saved them, but Hal was important. "I think we did a good thing by saving who we could, though. Sometimes the strong have to help the weak. Circle of life, or, um, something."
By this point she had already gone further into morality than she had really cared enough to think about in the past. Too used to simply living, to witnessing too many horrible deaths to think much of it anymore, had left her struggling to really see it as a problem anymore. Too many people ate too much food anyways, and that was bad. Elesia shrugged mentally and figured that she should just stop worrying and see if Hal had an issue with it. No point worrying about stuffs that hadn't happened yet.
It did feel pretty nice to have his hand going up and down her shoulder, though. Even if she didn't really understand why he'd want to do anything to her bony shoulders, but maybe it was a... something... thing. Whatever. The movement elicited a quiet, squeaky crowl from her as she basked in the moment, eyes closed, responding a little bit late to his words. "...That kinda makes me hungry. Sounds a bunch like making food." Warm and fuzzy, like a puppy hanging over an open fire. Her eyes popped open in a sudden burst of excitement, looking up at Hal. "Yeah! We can be the most best heroes ever, and save the world from evil, and then eat forever!"

When Elesia had spoke of strong people Hal's heart sank. He wasn't strong, he had ran from his mistakes like a coward. Hell he was ready repeat his coward acts when people started to become chew toys for those damn creatures. "Right... Strong..." Hal mummered. Would he be alive today if he was strong enough to stand up to his first 'mistake'? Sure he was protecting a baby wyvern but would other people value it's life as much as a human's life? Then he was no better than the turncoats who rebelled against Illia, no wait he was worse because they stood up for what they believed in.
Hal chuckled as she started to talk about food and eatting again then gazed into her malachite eyes for a minute. "We can cook the baddies for the monsters to eat, then when they're eating we cook them to lure in other monsters. Monsters are evil right? Also I think if we were to eat forever we'd 'plode from being too full." Hal's jaw quivered as he fought back yet another yawn, even though he didn't see eye to eye with Elesia on a few things something about this moment just seemed... right? It had felt good not being treated like an errand boy or being called 'kid' or 'boy', even though now it seemed like he had some big shoes to fill if he was to be half as strong and cool as she had thought.
"I'm starting to get sleepy to be honest. I think I'm going to lay down for a bit."
