Joel moved through the now-uncrowded streets of the city which had only recently been jam-packed with people who had come from around the continent to take part in that arena thing, his right hand holding the slippery thief's left shoulder so as to keep her from ditching the much larger man. He walked through the streets with long, purposeful strides, something he couldn't have claimed even a week ago; he hadn't done much between the last time he had seen Mel and today, besides making it back to Bern. He had planned on finding a job at a logging camp or some other such job, which was his reason for being in this city in the first place, but a quick look around town had revealed that a fairly recent companion was sitting in jail. Questions were asked, and Joel found out the date of release of his "daughter"; he had picked her up this morning after a small exchange of money.
Now, he moved Mel through the streets, until they were well away from the jailhouse. He held something in the bludgeoning fist that was his left hand, hidden from the thief's view, which he seemed extra careful not to crush. Another corner was rounded, and they were now in one of what could only be countless back alleys. He turned the silver-haired girl around to face his own grim expression, and then he held up his left hand. "Mel." he stated, and then flipped his hand over, opening it, and revealed the red delicious apple in his palm. "We're going to have a talk. You can eat the apple during the talk, but the only way I can promise you more is if you don't run off." He glared down at her, and then moved his left arm forward a bit more to show that he was actually offering the fruit.
