Name: Mystigan Arcerius
Class: Acolyte
Dialogue color: This.
Hair Color: Dirty Blonde
Eye Color: Blue
Age: 26
Born in: Laus, Lycia
Appearance:
A tall and abnormally muscular mage, Mystigan is a suave and charmingly handsome man. He is about 6'2, and 200 pounds. He has a scar running inside of his right eye, a gift from his days as a member of a gang of young children. His rather large eyes are the color of saphires. His eyebrows, while his right brow is cut by the scar running beside his eye, are thin and arched. His jaw and chin are well formed, and are of strong stock. His mouth is normally curved slightly in a mischevious grin, and usually makes others mistakingly mark him as a troublemaker. His nose is unremarkable, but fits well into the image of his person. Mystigan is rather tan, a marker of a traveler or laborer. He yellow and black tattoos of light runes on his arms, back and stomach, but are rarely visible due to his robe. They don't do much in the ways of enhancing his abilities but are a very intimidating sight if he takes off his robe for a tough fight.
Clothes:
Mystigan wears an ornate dark red hooded bishop's robe, and likes the freedom of wearing no undershirt. The robe dips to show the top of his chest, and can seem a bit inappropriate compared to the normal "proper" dress of church acolytes. The robe stretches from his shoulders down to his knees, and as stated before he wears nothing else to cover his torso, prefering the feel of the robe's soft cloth on his skin to the rough wool of a normal tunic. His robe's sleeves are rather baggy, and he can slip his arms inside the robe for warmth or simply for comfort if need be. The robe is fastened on by a belt, and the opposing flaps have hidden buttons to keep the robe together. The belt holds a few large handy pouches in the shape of a book, which obviously holds whatever spell book he has on hand. He wears faded black trousers under the robe, which are tied with another belt holding medicines and other pouches for various items. He wears an odd pair of shoes that are more like a combination of a shoe and a sandal.
Personality:
Mystigan is a care free and laid back practioner of magic who uses his talents more for personal gain than for the good of others than an acolyte of the church would. He enjoys the romantic spirit of traveling, and styles himself as an adventurer. Mystigan is fairly distant when meeting strangers, though he is fairly trusting, he rarely lets people know more than they have to about him. He is a man fond of drink and song, and likes to enjoy himself and live life rather than waste his time becoming a priest. (A life choice his adoptive father discouraged). He loves to flirt with any female that moves, in a more respectable fashion than some rather forward men, but practices abstinence to keep from falling into bad habits.
Story:
Mystigan was born an orphan in the streets of Laus. He was raised in a run-down orphanage run by a cruel old woman and her beloved cats. The woman believed that discipline and religion were the key to keep the children under her care from falling prey to the many street gangs plaguing Laus's seedier districts. This practise may have worked for some, but for Mystigan, it was an utter failure. He refused to give the woman his respect and doing the many chores the delapidated orphanage required for maintence, and quickly developed a reputation for getting himself placed in "time-out", and having his dinner being taken away. Until he was nine, Mystigan remained in the Orphanage and constantly showed he was not interested in a disciplined life-style. As soon as he could out-run the older children he left the place in favor of the freedom being a runaway could give him. Unfortunately, he quickly found that the very same freedom he craved made him crave for a steady meal even more.
He was in a bad spot, and after a few days he was found sleeping in a gutter by a particularly vicious street gang called the Steelhearts of Laus. It was led by a large ugly boy by the name of Crasus who was known as Cranky Crasus by the local rabble for his tendency to become angry for the most petty of reasons. Mystigan was forced into the gang, not physically, but because he had nowhere else to turn for a decent meal. Crasus led his gang of street rats through fear of his infamous vicious beatings, rather than competence. He also boasted frequently of his butcher's knife he used to threaten passerby's. Mystigan was one of the many who'd felt its blade after an argument with the brutish boy over the methods Crasus used when "initiating" a new member. Crasus, a boy four years Mystigan's senior and almost a foot his superior, easily overpowered the younger Mystigan and carved a nasty cut into Mystigan's "pretty" face. It was left unhealed, and it scarred. It is still visible years after the fact. After being overpowered so easily, Mystigan swore that he'd become stronger so he'd never have to worry about bullies like Crasus ever again.
He spent two years with the gang, and like he resisted the discipline of the woman from the orphanage, he constantly challenged Crasus's authority. Some of the other boys in the gang looked up to him as a brotherly figure as Mystigan was much more caring than the others. He even tried to get the younger members to quit and go back to whatever homes they had before Crasus caught word of it and beat him senselessly. Mystigan would have been kicked out of the gang had he not been such an asset for Crasus. He was by far the most intelligent in the bunch, and helped design better ways to operate the activities of the gang than Crasus ever could. He made sure the other gangs couldn't come into the territory of the steelhearts by having members of the gang stand at every street corner when they weren't participating in rumbles or muggings, and procured pieces of red cloth to identify members of the gang. While he hated doing the wrong things the gang did, he had no other means of protection and finding meals and thus stayed on until he was found by a kind priest of Elimine.
One morning, the last day Mystigan spent as a member of the street gang, he was jumped by a rival group while protecting a small boy a few blocks away from Laus's largest chapel. A priest who happened by the fight was impressed by Mystigan's willpower to refuse getting knocked down and the way he stood up for the smaller child. The priest intervened immediately and beat the six rival gang members back with his staff and sent them running. He offered a hand out to a battered and bruised Mystigan and insisted the 14 years old come with him to join the church. Mystigan finally saw a way out from the streets and agreed to the offer as long as the priest agreed to help him escort the young boy he'd been protecting home. The priest, a man named Sedric, agreed, and Mystigan was made a pupil in the church that night.
Years passed, and Mystigan garnered a reputation as a troublemaker within the clergy of Laus's chapel. Sedric did what he could for the spirited lad, but Mystigan's insatiatable desire for adventure prevented him from graduating past acolyte. Sedric taught the boy light magic, something the intelligent lad showed great interest in, and excelled in that field of study. Despite his best efforts, Sedric eventually was forced to allow Mystigan to go on an extended "pilgrimage" in hopes the youth would finally get some of the adventure he so dearly craved. Mystigan however saw it as an escape from the dull life of an acolyte. the night before he left, he stole the head priest's finest robes and shoes, and left the next morning. He wasn't ungrateful of his adoptive father's role in his life and told Sedric of his intentions to leave the church for good. Sedric knew he couldn't stop the boy anyway, and agreed that it was for the best, although bregrudgingly.
The acolyte left Laus for Etruria where he hoped to find a job as a mercenary, knowing his skills with light magic would be invaluable in the hunt for the dark magic cults Etrurian authorities sought to root out. Instead, Mystigan became more of a solo-bounty hunter, taking bounties hung up in taverns and inns rather than join a mercenary guild and deal with the structure that life style would no doubt entail. He enjoyed the freedom to take jobs whenever he wanted and use whatever he made off the bounties to drink and purchase more tomes to further his magical knowledge and ability. He had most of his upper body tattoo'd with light magic symbols, not because he was a rebel to the systems he had experienced, but because he had a habit of being shirtless in tough fights, and the tattoo's would serve to make him look more fearsome.
He continues this practice today, and travels all over the continent(though he stays away from the cold of ilia) hunting outlaws, and helping those less fortunate than he. As he vowed to become stronger early on, he trains both his body and magic with equal vigor and is known to some as the Light Warrior.
