Name: Jaden. He has a last name, but he forgot it at this point.
Class: Novice
Hair Color: Black
Eye Color: Black
Age: 15
Born in: A moderately-sized city in Bern.
Appearance: A teenager barely hitting the border between childhood and adulthood, Jaden is quite on the skinny side naturally, and is of at least of average height for his age. Living on the streets for most of his beginning days, Jaden used to fancy ragged clothing. But thanks to his time spent with his...adoptive "mother", she was able to make the boy wear more clean and appropriate clothing. He's naturally carefree about his appearance, so the teen feels like he could wear just about anything and be completely okay with it. Probably wouldn't mind going back to rags, but that's a story for another day. He maintains the same set of casual clothes his adoptive mother gave him, but since Aria disappeared, he had no one to actually fix them up when needed...until he occasionally bugs his friend, brother (not by blood) and rival, Vergil to sew up his favorite clothing for him, since sewing was one of the least interesting things he wanted to learn despite Aria trying to encourage him to learn.
In battle, he still wears his normal clothing, but he at least fancies a small jacket and barely a shoulder pad on his left shoulder. Ultimately, he's still armor-less and is completely vulnerable. But seriously, give the kid a break! He wasn't some world famous hero and he lacked so much battle experience that it fell on just insulting when he had to recall what little skirmishes he had to go through in his life time...other than fighting bullies. He wouldn't be able to handle armor very well, and it'd only slow him down in the long run. Well, at least from how Aria put it anyway. Heh.
Personality: Youthful and full of spirit, Jaden exudes very active vibes when first seen. He could be laid back at times and a very carefree kid, mostly of what his character is made up of. Fighting bullies day in and day out as a small child gave Jaden sort of a tough kid attitude who didn't know how to stay out of trouble, even if it could kill him. But his carefree demeanor was the main source of concern, as he didn't care after it was all said and done. He'd get into more trouble since it literally takes a bloody beating for the kid to actually learn a lesson. He had his parents to blame for that, but again...a story for another day! He's quite prone to teasing people a lot, especially Vergil, but at the end of the day, no harm is actually hidden behind it. Jaden just likes to do what he wants, even if he can be quite annoying about it.
Of course, when it comes to his newfound values that he picked up from traveling with Aria and Vergil, his carefree manner turns into seriousness and mostly becoming quite the meddler. He's quite the curious boy and he could never turn a blind eye to anything if it meant he could either help or just see what the heck's going on. Aria taught him kindness instead of the ways taught by the rugged life of the streets, and as such, the thought of helping others out and reaching his hand out to those in need grew on him. He was somewhat infected by Vergil as well, his rival showing these traits of kindness as well and it rubbed off on him...for the best. While he fought a lot with his counterpart for various things that he could make a list of, Vergil also played a huge role in changing him from a rotten brat to a...less rotten brat. At least he knew how to be kind to people now instead of picking random fights for no apparent reason!
The boy obviously still has a ton of growing to do and while he won't admit it, watching Vergil grow up really fast over the course of time was both a challenge for him and in his own little way, glad he's able to grow this way. That meant he had more chances to try and stay one step ahead.
Story: For as far back as Jaden could remember, he lived somewhat of a cozy life when he was around four or five. His parents were of a mid-upper class in a Bern city. The town in particular wasn't too involved in the affairs of Bern or the military and was quite a peaceful city in that regard. It wasn't large, but it had plenty of medium to large sized buildings and homes. Since this city was more paid attention to itself than any other, the history lies within itself than of Bern's. Certain areas of the town were in perfect harmony while others...not so much. A few thugs lingered in the bad areas and even rotten children roamed the streets doing their dirt under the influence of the dirty adults teaching them dirty things to do. But it was somewhat expected for a city like this, as while it wasn't big on a capital level and nowhere near, once a town gets big enough, slum-like areas begin to appear and no one really seemed to care as rich and poor became a separate branch at that point.
Jaden's parents lived in the more peaceful areas of the town, but the young boy always sneaked off on his own very often. It wasn't hard either, as his parents were extremely busy folk and didn't seem to pay Jaden any attention...at all. It seemed like they only knew he existed is when he made himself known or did naughty boy things to grab their attention. But even then, his punishments were so weak that it was hard to consider it as them punishing him at all. How could two people be so busy to where they can't smack their kid a little bit to teach him some discipline, or any of the basic...things parenting required? About the most they did was feed him daily, which sometimes they'd even forget to do that before he starts complaining that he's hungry, like a bear's cub.
Since his parents neglected him so much, and he was getting around to the age where he was able to understand and comprehend what goes on around him, the curious boy wondered how things were if he left them behind for most of the day and went out to do whatever he wanted. Being a dumb kid, he didn't even think about that plan in the slightest and sneaked out of the house at every opportunity. Hell, the more he did it, the more he had to stop sneaking around. He went right out the front door casually one day and all his father did was just nudge his head for that split second before diving back into some crafting he was doing. If a burglar came in their house and started stealing all their stuff, they probably wouldn't notice until after they were finished with their business. They never realized he was gone during the days and nights as well until he comes back at ungodly times in the night, going on morning. They were horrible parents and even Jaden at that very young age could tell from that.
On the outside, the young boy picked up on all kinds of bad influences from bullies and a few shady adults he hanged out with a few times. His mind was in that developmental stage where he believed everything that was told to him, and it was quite difficult for him to unlearn the negativity. Eventually, he became a bad boy and caused trouble wherever he went. Involved annoying the ever living crap out of townsfolk on the good side or getting into fights with bullies on the other side, which resulted in him getting a face full of dirt every time. The kids were always bigger than he, but the little bugger did pack a punch when he could land one. But for the most part, he was a punching bag, and when he tried to drag himself back home, adults in the slums would patch him up out of pity, but kicked him out immediately. He had plenty of times where he actually slept away from home out in the cold and his parents still never realized he was gone. That went beyond irresponsible. He kept up with the street wandering for a whole year.
However, one day his trouble making took him too far. He started a fight with some usual enemies and they were quite fed up with the annoying little boy to where they gave him quite the pounding. Really, they were beating him a little too rough. By then he had a body nose, bruised face and aches all over. But the determined little brat kept fighting back regardless. It wasn't until a little later that some blond kid came rushing in with a wodden stick and tried to take the little brutes on. At first, Jaden was confused because he never really had anyone help him before in those struggles. But it became apparent that the other kid was fighting in his defense. He still didn't understand it fully, but Jaden felt like he needed to help the kid out as well, as he wasn't doing any better than he was against the little ruffians.
By the time it was all over, both were laid out and were a mess. Though while he was laying there, he looked over to the other kid as he was still in shock that he actually stuck his nose out to help him out...even though all get got in return was a bloody nose too. It wasn't until some lady came around and carried them away to be all patched up. The other kid, Vergil, apparently was related to her in some way he didn't understand. When it came to the woman treating him though, she was quite upset with both boys about the whole getting beat up thing. Vergil explaining himself helped his case it seemed, but Jaden was just a troublemaker with little to zero excuses. Of course, being a little brat, he bit back telling her to mind her own business. He was going to just break away and be stubborn, not wanting to accept her help. However, he didn't expect her to force him back. Though for that moment, her tone actually got him to understand that there was no hate behind her words, but concern: something he never experienced. The only reasons adults in the past helped him out was just for pity, but the woman at the time was more worried and helpful than anything else.
Of course, he didn't expect the questioning of where his parents were. The woman, Aria, and Vergil didn't seem to be around from the town and they may have not known they stumbled into the bad part of the city. He had an idea though, as he was a little too honest for his own good, but he just wanted to get out of there. That horrible beating and his parents' neglect was enough to drive the young-in to a breakdown right there and then, but he held that toughness he gained from the streets and didn't shed a single tear. He told a little lie, telling her that he broke away from his parents a long while ago and lived on his own in the streets. She seemed to buy it, but it's not like he really wanted to lie. What he said was technically true, and anyone could agree that the kid didn't deserve to live like that around such a negative environment only to turn out as a scum when he grows up. But from that day forth after being a little comfortable around Vergil and Aria, he was finally able to escape the city.
He tended to clash with Vergil...a lot. Both for gaining Aria's attention and affection, and freakin' everything in general. The affectionate woman showed him kindness of a mother that he never got to experience either, eventually clinging to her constantly. And after that little fight, she began to teach both of them how to at least swing a sword to protect themselves. Of course, Jaden wanted to use the skills taught to him to get revenge on those boys back at his old home, but Aria saw where that was headed and properly schooled the boy on...common sense, since his parents didn't even teach him that.
But as he spent years with both her and Vergil, things were turning out much brighter for him, and he absolutely loved to learn to get better with his swordplay. It was something he could finally enjoy without something negative getting in the way. Well, he did have his newfound rivalry with Vergil there though. He always wanted to stay one step ahead of everything and even practiced his butt off in swordsmanship to keep from being left behind. Vergil was quite the growing boy though...and he felt like that trait was enough for his counterpart to also keep step ahead of him. However, something about his competition with his new brother seemed...warm. While he didn't like him that much, Vergil grew on him so much to where he seriously didn't hate him. If anything, he was just as happy on the inside to be around him as he was with Aria as they kept interacting. But the boy's pride kept him from outwardly admitting it. He deeply cared for them both at the end of the day and if he had the power, he'd be there for the both of them always.
Though around 15, Aria just suddenly...vanished. Without a trace. It was quite heartbreaking for a while, as she was gone for weeks. But Vergil was even more torn up about it and that just made things feel worse. Not out of competing anymore, but he didn't like seeing his brother miserable. But something happened one day that Jaden decided to make the biggest decision in his life. Aria showed him kindness...and she also taught him to stand on his own feet. Even while she was gone, he had to get used to her not being around...even if she eventually came back, it was feeling hopeless to wait for her anymore. It was going to take time to get used to it, but he was willing to go out in the world on his own, and forced Vergil to snap out of it and be his own man as well. Of course, huge fight over that, but at least the two came to a peaceful compromise at the end. The real adventure started now...
