Name: Grimm Veras
Class: Squire
Age: 17
Born in: Bern
Themes: General Theme, Story Theme
Appearance:
It is easy to see the youthfulness in Grimm. Many have made comment that he is a handsome boy, and that just by looking at him you can tell what kind of a hard working and strong lad he is. His black, short hair gives away his farm boy lifestyle by normally being an unkempt mess. Sarah was caught many times trying to maintain it in a fit of annoyance. His work outside for long hours have left him with a slightly browner skin tone, that hide a lot of the small scars he had gotten from work both on his farm and with the Wyverns of the Jaywood ranch. His mother would always make note that Grimm had the same dark green eyes of his father, and that when he was working hard in the farm she could always see his father in him.
Personality:
Grimm lived a good healthy life on his families farm. The troubles that plagued the county of Bern seemed far away from the fields Grimm had learned to call home. His father was also pretty animate about keeping out of any such civil war, and instead preaching to Grimm the strong morals he would keep long after his fathers death. Though it could be said that Grimm still had a lot to learn from his father when he died, his mother always did insist that he would be proud of the person Grimm turned into.
This isn't to say Grimm doesn't still have a young naivety. Grimm's understanding of the phrase, 'use your head', sometimes seems to be headbutting a problem rather then thinking it through. This can lead to problems for him at times, when trying to force his way through problems. He also suffers from a young man's overconfidence. It isn't to say that Grimm truly thinks he is invincible, but you would have a hard time believing he didn't.
This doesn't stop the more positive aspects of his personality from shining. Grimm is hardworking, and respectful. He is easy to rely on, and tough skinned when it comes to taking criticism. He has an amazing capacity for learning, and shows a great deal of courage. Grimm also shows a great potential for leadership. He doesn't back down from taking charge. This shows the most with his relationship to his wyvern Abroth.
All in all Grimm is a strong young man, who learns fast and has a capacity for love and respect that most don't show.
Story:
Every story needs to start somewhere. For this one, why don't we start at the beginning?
The night Grimm was born was the sky was crystal clear in Bern. His mother would recall, the stars and the moon being extra bright that night. She would always say that it was her first sign of how bright Grimm would make her life. His father was equally as awe stricken that night, and would vow to keep his new child safe even in this county that had seen so much pain. As his mother held the baby Grimm in her arms with her husband at her side, the world seemed to know no pain or fear. Thus was the start of the life of Grimm. A child with the world ahead of him.
And forward Grimm did go. With his mothers love and his fathers wisdom he grew and learned on their small farm in the county side. He was a happy child. He knew very little of the pain Bern had experienced during the war, and even less about Ilia's current occupation. Here he only knew of his family farm, their animals, and the love of the natural beauty of the land. With his father as a mentor Grimm learned how to take care of the land. He became an essential part to keeping up with all of the work that needed to be done. It was true that Grimm really didn't have much pain in his life, which made his father's sudden illness and death even harder on him. Grimm was only eleven.
Grimm grew a little older the day his father died. He had seen what kind of pain life could hold, and it changed him. Without his fathers guidance he became more rebellious. His mother was also grieving, and had trouble consulting Grimm through this phase. Not to say she didn't do the best she could given the circumstance. Neighboring farms came often to their farm now, to help the family make it by with their farm now that his father had passed. Grimm often slacked on his duties to the farm, running off to cause trouble. That was until he met a farmers daughter named Sarah. A girl who would change his life.
If you believe in love at first sight then you understand what Grimm saw in Sarah from the very first time they met. He became enamored with her. She was beautiful, elegant, and innocent. It wasn't just Grimm who was stricken by her either, for she was also infatuated by him. The two seemed inseparable, always running around together. His new feelings swelled in his heart giving him back the joy he had thought lost after his fathers death. His mother would note the glow in his cheeks every time the name Sarah was spoken. It was true, these two were made for each other. Their families grew close as they did, and everyone was certain the two would always share a destiny.
Years would pass, and love would grow. Grimm himself grew into a fine young man. He was strong, he was loyal, and most of all he was courageous. Sarah's family raised wyverns, beast that many had feared. Grimm showed a special gift with the beast however, even helping Sarah's father many times with the care of them. When Grimm was fifteen he helped hatch one of the newborn wyverns on the Jaywood farms. As Grimm looked at the new born wyvern with wanderlust in his eyes it became clear to Mr. Jaywood what had to be done. As a gift for his hard work, and because he generally liked the boy, Grimm was given the new born wyvern under the condition that he took good care of it. With great gratitude, Grimm accepted.
“I think... I think it's name should be Abroth. Yeah. Abroth.” - Grimm Veras
So it was, Grimm raised his own wyvern on Jaywood farms. He learned to care for his new found friend, and would come by after his chores once a day to see it. Sarah was equally impressed and thrilled by this, as it gave even more incentive for Grimm to come to their farm and see her as well. Yes, everything in Grimm's life seemed to be going perfect. Such ups in life must come with downs however, and Grimm would soon know a second death in his life as his mother started to grow ill. Though she held on for some time, when Grimm was seventeen she too passed away.
Heartbroken again, Grimm was at a loss. As with any death, the weight of sorrow seemed unbearable at the time. Sarah and her family offered Grimm to stay with them, but Grimm had chose another path. He gathered what he could from the his home and sneaked his way to the Jaywood farm. He carefully went to where Abroth was held in her pen, and began to set her loose so the two could go. That was until he was stopped by Sarah.
The two parted ways, but not forever. Sarah didn't know what Grimm was looking for when he left, she couldn't understand it at all. She did know however that when he found it, she would be here. That he would always have this place to come back too. Even though it was hard to say goodbye the two knew it was not going to be forever. The night sky was crystal clear that Bern night. The stars and the moon were extra bright. A sign some would way. A sign of how bright Grimm would make the world with his adventures.
