Name- Ephraim
Class- Thief
Age- 18
Born in- Western Isles
Appearance- 5 foot 6 he is lithe and toned but not stocky, often being mistaken for scrawny and lanky. He has blue eyes and he has long blond hair pulled back in a ponytail with a holder much akin to a manly red ribbon. He wears a long sleeved brown shirt with a dark purple vest buttoned up over the shirt. He wears a white cravat around his neck. His belt is a thick brown leather strap with a bronze buckle and two pouches that he always keeps trusted supplies in including light runes and mines for getaways. His pants are dark brown and kept with a fine crease until they are bloused into his buckled boots. Around his thigh he keeps three daggers for fighting and throwing.
Personality- a rogue through and through. He enjoys showing off and standing in the spotlight. He has a sharp silver tongue and can haggle with the best of them. Despite spending most of his time with pirates his manners and speech are on the level of a nobleman's. He is a man that is weak to women however and often times gets lulled into the most obvious of traps. He is a skilled acrobat and can maneuver and climb in places the average man would break their neck in. He uses this to his advantage during escapes and infiltration.
Growing up on the streets he is constantly wary and on the lookout for hostiles. He can read a mans subtleties and decipher friend and for alike. Those he can't read are ones he will do his best to avoid as they are the most dangerous. He doesn't know his family and views Bonnie and the crew as his family. He will defend them to the death and despite being pirates feels they are more noble than kings. He may be a criminal but his creed will not be betrayed easily.
He can read the sky and knows the ocean well. He can steer a ship and give commands as good as any captain. He prefers to avoid conflicts preferring a jolly mood but if it comes to blows he will very well fight quick and dirty. But mostly he will try to get away or fight the opponent into submission.
On land he knows the ports and is a threat to any gambler. Counting cards and slight of hand he will clean you out. But he also knows all the shanties by heart and plays the penny whistle during music and game nights.
His greatest fear is losing Bonnie or First Mate. The one place he never wants to be is Bergandine "where all pirates go to die". It is where captured pirates are executed and the subject of solemn songs.
His goals are non existent for the most part. He just wants to have adventures and be in good company. He fancies himself the greatest pirate of his age and will work to outdo any others. Oya of course is a name he knows and he looks up to his power and is the man to beat for him.
He knows Lucius in passing due to the trading between Bonnie and him but not personally.
Story- ephraim was abandoned at birth and left in an orphanage. As a young child ephraim would always be the hero to the younger children. Usually taking the blame for anything wrong or talking them out of punishments. When the owner of the home grew I'll ephraim took to stealing in order to get the medicine. It caused him a great deal of pain as he was a very young boy only about 8.
Eventually ephraim got bold and turned to a noble home. Using his age as leverage he gained sympathy from many servants and when the time was right he snuck away from sight and scoured the manor. After a number of close calls he found the medicine and took it back.
He took too long however and was too late. The kind woman was beyond the aid of medicine and soon passed away. Ephraim held it personally against nobles and the rich who ignored his pleas for help. He took it upon himself to become a robin-hood figure.
It was a foolish notion especially without aid and his age but he met with early minor success. He was nine when he was finally cornered and caught. The men wanted to kill him but others argued no because of his age. During the arguments is when he first met Bonnie, and First Mate.
They had docked for a short stay on land and heard the yelling. Upon investigation they discovered ephraim being held up by his shirt kicking and screaming. After a short rescue ephraim was asked about himself. He told them all about his life enthusiastically. At the end of his story they asked if he'd like to join them on the seas. He joyfully accepted.
As an early pirate he was given all the grunt work and he hated life for a long time. Many nights he wouldn't sleep and the next day had a new load of chores. During the times that he had gotten his work done the crew would teach him useful things. Bonnie taught him all about mines and First Mate light runes. The two would become vital to his success.
When they raided places ephraim was on ship guard. A job he didn't respect until he left his post and the ship was raided. He was eleven then and this was his most important mistake. After a hard battle the ship was cleared but ephraim learned to respect the creed. Nearly walking the plank he was spared under strict punishment. It was time for him to earn his stay.
In a plot to wreck a ship he was tasked with clearing out a lighthouse. He scaled the side of a cliff and infiltrated the lighthouse destroying the beacon. He was found out however and using a mine he blew the top of the house away and sealed the exit trapping the men inside. He returned to the ship forgiven but not forgotten. He still labored away again as though he were new.
Another two years passed on the sea and he was thirteen. It was time to test his metal on land. In the tavern he was sent to play against a group of eight other men. Using all the card skills he'd gained from the crew he cleaned them out pulling in the cash. Naturally the men turned violent and he slipped away climbing over buildings keeping from being followed. With the money he bought finer clothing and posed as the son of a nobleman. He took this chance to charm a young nobles daughter tricking her into telling him many valuable secrets. The crew now had a plan.
Using the knowledge they raided the house and stole the valuables killing only those necessary. This was his first raid and he plundered all he could. He was stopped by the daughter before he left. Seeing her in tears he never wanted to see it again. This is when he created his life rules about women. He dropped all he had stolen save for a kiss before he left.
That night aboard the ship they celebrated their success with food and drink. Bonnie presented ephraim with his penny whistle and he soon began to learn to play. Ephraim got drunk for the first time. He decided after he didn't care for the taste but for the sake of parties he would still drink his fill.
In time Ephraim turned fifteen and started wearing his hair in a ponytail and worked on his extra skills. He came to be extremely strong and flexible. He was a regular member of the crew and tasked with lookout in the crow's nest. One fateful day they came into contact with a military ship that had been in wait. They were taken by surprise and ambushed.
The fight had been bloody and long. Ephraim got his first taste of blood saving Bonnie's life. He swung from the ropes and came down from on high tackling the man stabbing ferociously. Many members of his family fell and they were sent adrift to sea with the proper respects. As for the military ship it was ransacked for all it was worth then turned into a flame ship.
Bonnie wanted 'justice' and sent the ship into a port of a small island where it exploded destroying the docks. Ephraim didn't agree with the action but it was an educational experience. Curious as to why she picked a small locale she revealed it was to minimize deaths of civilians while feeling satisfied.
It's been two years since then and ephraim is 18. He has proven capable of taking on any job no matter how grueling. He often handles business with the smugglers and deals in anything other than assassinations.
