Name: Ajari
Class: Water Manakete
Age: 537
Born in: A monastery deep in the Ilian mountains, on the side of a long inactive volcano.
Appearance:
Personality: Ajari is a very pleasant and bright person to be around. She is not outgoing, but is more than happy to become involved in any situations she finds and to offer help where it would be needed. She is a bit naive, having lived in a monastery her entire life, but she is a woman of unparalleled virtue. While some may be able to deceive her, she will not violate her own morals, no matter how much she believes people. The center of this teaching is to never take a life, be it man, woman or beast. Violence may become required in the dangerous world, as a last resort, but the act of taking a life is something she would never perform or knowingly allow to come to pass, if it is within her power to stop.
In accordance with this mindset, she refuses to accept positions of leadership. Her first loyalty is to her code, and that comes before any mortal bond or law.
Story:
Over five hundred years ago, a powerful dragon came to the hidden monastery deep in the Ilian mountains. She was in human form, very weak and quite obviously with child. The denizens of the monastery, both male and female, took pity on her in her time of need. Though the child was born full and healthy, the mother did not long survive. The monks knew that if they turned this child away, she would surely be killed simply by nature of her blood. So it came to be that the dragon named Ajari was raised in this monastery, learning their ways and beliefs over hundreds of years.
She grew slowly, but noticed quickly that others around her grew much quicker. When she questioned this, she was told that she was a gift from the gods, sent to Elibe for a very special purpose. In most children, this would have given rise to a very dangerous mindset, but the monks were not fools. Ajari was taught from a young age that the taking of any life was abhorrent, regardless of how great or small it was. She watched the monks eat only plants, grown in a basement garden with the volcanic soil and magical lights to nurture them. She saw them take caution when they ventured out in the wilderness, to make as small an impact in the surrounding world as possible. She saw them teach the same lessons to all students, young and old. Ajari learned and accepted this as the truth. No matter how much power one has, they never posses the right to treat other creatures as lesser than they.
She was trained in the use of her draconic power, even though she has never transformed and does not know of her true nature. She knows the beautiful crystal holds a power that is loyal only to her, and that to take too much of it will turn her into a beast without thought or reason. She was traumatized at a young age when she took too much and grew a pair of long horns. Since then, she has focused on maintaining her discipline and emotional stability, so she would never lose herself to such power again.
She lived as both student and master of the monastery. Being taught and passing those lessons onto the next generation as they grew old and died around her. There was one secret that she was never told, however. This secret was passed from Grand Master to Grand Master. Even in her five hundred years, she had not been told, nor did she seek it out. She knew it was about her, but she also knew they would tell her when they felt she needed to know. Life in the monastery was simple, but it was all she knew. She was content, always finding the eternal cycle of meetings and farewells to keep her spirits high.
Finally, her destiny was revealed to her. Dark creatures, born of malice and pain, began to awaken around the world. Even as far removed as they were, the monks knew. It was then that the Grand Master, a greying man whom Ajari had known well since he was but a boy, told her of her destiny. She had been taught to never take a life, that violence was a last resort because nobody had the right to take the life of any other living creature. It was at this moment that she was ordered to fight. These creatures were not life, they were a mockery of life. They sought only to kill and destroy. Born of pain and darkness, they would cast an endless blight on the land. They must be destroyed, and none were more suited than Ajari to this task. Their teeth and claws would not penetrate her skin, their filth would not poison her body and their dark magic would not corrupt her soul. She was to stand against these vile creatures, which normal men could not hope to strike down, and protect all of the world from their foul and unending rot and destruction.
Ajari accepted this task, and with some time given to farewells, and a bit more given to informing her of the outside world so she could travel safely, she left the world she knew. She knows to keep the truth of her longevity secret, since people fear what they do not understand. She has accepted her destiny to root out the evil that is in the world, for if she does not, who will?
