A week has past since Claira and Orcleous were at the village of the dead. Two days later and they were in Bern. Since the two were running low on funds to stay at In 's, they found an old village that has been long been abandoned since the long ago wars. The village had seen better days, but it surprised Claira that most of the buildings were still stable and sound. Everyday, the thief would explore a little bit of the village to find useful items that they could use.
On this day, Claira woke up before the Hero and went outside. The sun was on its way to rise, but darkness was still cloaking the village from the human eye. She walked to the old school building and went inside leaving the front doors open. Because of her left arm and shoulder injuries, it left the arm weakend. The Thief used the school to work up the strength in her arm. The darkness was thick. So she had to wait to let her eyes adjust. Once they were, she could faintly make out some details. Going into one of the rooms, she would jump over the damaged desks and leaped up to the thick heavy support beams.
Grabbing onto one of the beams, Claira would do a few pulls ups. Her shoulder began to throb. Pulling up onto the beam. Kneeling down on it, she began to rub the shoulder. Seeing the sun slowly rise, the details of the room started to get clearer. So she stood up and jumped off and grabbed another support beam. Swaying back and forth, she flipped onto the beam. Diving off, she rolled on the ground and slid on her knee.

The sun rose over the horizon bringing with it the dawn. Orcleous was still asleep when it came up, but once the light feel upon his face the hero awoke from his slumber. It had been a good bit of time since they had left that village. Orcleous still remembered the smell and the sight. These things would weigh on you, but Orcleous had seen it enough time that it would soon pass. As the hero pulled himself to his feet he began to inspect his weapons. Xigshaw, the mighty holy warhammer was the only thing of note. After that was his silver longswor and then his new steel gladius. Last on his list of weapons was his steel war axe. He gained it during the battle with the undead, though Orcleous favored swords he was sure it would come in handy. Pulling out a piece of cloth from his bag Orcleous began to clean his weapons. Good maintenance was the key to saving money.
After performing his chores Orcleous began to shuffle through his bag. He still had some deer jerky left from that last hunt. Pulling some out the hero enjoyed his breakfast in the new dawn light. "I wonder where Claria is", he spoke as he sat up and looked around. She must have wondered off exploring the village again. It was not a bad habit, but one Orcleous did not champion. On one end they needed to be sure they where not sharing space with bandits and on the other going off by yourself could prove to be problematic. Still that was a thought for another day.
Walking over to a nearby coat rack Orcleous took off the black leather jacket hanging on it. After he lost his breastplate Orcleous was forced to switch to his traveling gear. Well he said traveling gear, but it was more like his winter coat. He never really wore it when he traveled, the hero liked being prepared at all times, but the name simply fit. The lack of weight from his armor seemed foreign to him and he felt a bit exposed. Still he had to do what he had to do. The coin purse was light and the only back up money he had was back in Isengaurd. The village was at least a week's march through the mountains away and the trip would not be something Orcleous would be keen to make.
"Yo Claira", spoke Orcleous as he walked outside of the house they where using as a base of operations. At his side was his silver longsword and in his hand was his gladius, still in its sheath of course.

No response from Claira. When looking, he'd see a trail in the dirt path heading for the old school house where the set of doors were wide open now.
Claira was running up the corners and grabbing onto the support beams. Feeling a bit winded, she sat down onto the beam as sweat beaded off her face. lowering her scarf, she leaned against the wall. She hasn't done this sort of work out in ten years. It helped her get back into the rhythm of her thief training. Taking out her Iron dagger, she would stand up and balance herself. Closing her eyes, she would begin to go through her motions of attacking someone that wasn't there. Slashing, avoiding, stabbing, jumping back, jumping forward and slicing. Always keeping her footing. Like she was on invisible strings being guided by an unseen puppet master.

"Great", spoke Orcleous as he did not hear the maiden's voice. This just made everyting a lot harder. It was not a big little village, but it was stil a good bit of space to cover. Orcleous did not want to go house to house searching for her. The hero groaned at the very thought of it. It would take up a good chunk of his day doing this. It was in the middle of his mental complaining that Orcleous saw the path leading up to the old school building. Looking at it he woundered if she could have went up there and thus the hero set out to find the maiden. He could only prety that no dragon showed up and snatch her away.
As Orcleous approached the building he heard sounds that confirmed her presence. The way she steeped and moved sounded almost as if she was in a fight. However the lack of a second or thierd set of feet told him that it was probably practice. Openeing the door orcleous knocked his feet onto the side of the door frame creating a sound to let her know he was here. "Yo", he spoke as he walked in. The hero took a good look at her and noticed the new morning sweat.
"Practicing", spoke Orcleous as he looked at her. The hero understood how important fightign was. It dominated his life and the life of many. Hers problaby more than his. Orcleous job gave the promise of a painful death lying in a ditch. Her life gave the promoise of dying by the hands of slavers. So between teh two of them she had it the worse. Though one thing did connect them both, and that was the need for good skill with the blade.
"Shadow opponents are good, but the yare only as good as you can imagine them to be. They don't have weight, and they don't have a set speed. For that", spoke Orcleous as he dropped his gladius on the ground and pulled his longsword off his belt. The hero kept the sheath on the blade and held it as a single unit. "You need a live parnter", he spoke as he looked the maiden in the eye.

As he was coming in, she had gotten done a series of attacks that required high speed slashes, thrashing and thrusting of the blade. When she heard the steel sword fall to the ground and him saying live partner, she opened her eyes and looked down at Orcleous. A smile came across her face and she began to take off her armor, then setting them down onto the support beam. Untying her cloak with hood and let that slide off falling to the floor.
Putting her dagger into its sheath, she hopped off grabbing the beam and swung herself landing on the floor. Pulling on the scarf, Claira tosses it to the side so the only things she was wearing was her now sleeveless shirt, her black pants and her boots. Still smiling, she'd begin walking towards him swaying her hips. But once they both were in striking range, she'd quickly underneath her sword and stand still in a defensive stance. "Then let's train then."

"Alright", spoke Orcleous as he began to size the young thief up. He had seen her speed in the last battle and knew how fast she could move. She was nimble on her feet, but the wounds she revived from the city gave testament to her inability to defend herself. Speed was good, but she was going to need to know how to block, or simply get faster. Both where easier said than done. However if there was something that Orcleous could say that she needed to know it was technique. Technique on how to block, how to dodge, what kind of attack comes from what body motion. If you can read your opponents attack before they make it then you can counter it a lot easier. Orcleous was never a nimble foot fighter, but he had faced a good number of them. He knew there weakness and there strength. He needed to let her discover her own short comings and force her to improve.
The hero took a deep breath and then sprung into motion. As he rushed forward Orcleous pulled his sword up and swung down toward the right shoulder of the maiden. His attack aimed for the right because he wanted her to move left. People always had a natural tendency to dodge toward there right side. Orcleous wanted to see if she had it too. He also needed to try and understand how she saw a battle. Orcleous, when he fought, was always offensive. He liked to get in and destroy his opponent. That was his style because he used a greatsword. That mentality however also cared over when he used the sword and shield. He would always charge forward in a attempt to gain the first strike. The hero wanted to learn her tendencies. To learn what she would do before she did it. If he could capture that he could find her weakness and then make her work on it.

Her narrowed a bit and her smile was gone. Then all signs of emotions started to fade as she leapt to the left side then brought her sword up and had it aimed for him. Once his blade was down, she would charge to him and swing horizontal across his chest.
As he was studying her, she too was studying him. Claira wanted to see how close thinking they were. Jumping back from attacking, she'd begin to circle him, kicking desks out of the way so they now were in a make shift arena. Holding the sword in her right hand, she had her left hand behind her holding onto the dagger.

So she was not limited to the right, thought Orcleous to himself as the maiden dodge the attack. The moment his sword was down she rushed forward to attack. Her dagger aiming to slash toward the chest. It was a good tactic, but Orcleous was just a step ahead. As the maiden moved forward the hero took a step back. With the motion he brought the hilt of his sword up blocking the blow with the cross guard. The moment the attack hit Orcleous kicked back with his legs in order to create some space. Upclose she had the advantage. Her dagger was faster and still could get full swing. Orcleous longsword was useful in mid range and it could be used up close, but not as effective.
The maiden began to try and circle him. A good use of speed, thought Orcleous as she began to move around the room. Orcleous did not have his armor and as a result he was willing to humor the idea. Picking up his pace Orcleous rushed toward the maiden moving parallel to her. The hero slashed the sheathed sword at her aiming to hit her in the back as soon as she seemed in range of his sword. After taking the swipe he stopped and jumped back about two steps. Letting his left leg lead Orceous pushed off the ground aiming to strike at the position where he thought the maiden would be. The hero jumpered forward into a lunge stabbing the sheathed blade forward almost as if it was a rapier.
Orcleous had never used the lung attack in a battle before. He had practiced it in his spare time, but never against a live opponent. It was just never his style and he never had a reason to use it. Still he practiced it just in case he needed it later. Seedle told him that the move was in every master swrodsmen skill cabinet. Orcleus wanted to add it to his own. If Raven was going to improve then Orcleous would as well.

Now the fun would begin as he moved with her. First he sliced towards her back. Jumping off to the left again, she felt the sheath tip graze across her shirt, then bolted towards him. While getting closer, he moved back and lunged the sword towards her aimed at her torso. Claira didn't expect it and jumped to her right and rolled away from him. Holding up the iron sword, she locked her eyes onto him. Standing up slowly and her left hand still behind her.
' Claira, slow down. Study his moves.' she thought to herself. The Thief would bolt at him again, but her upper body was low to the ground. Once she was getting into striking range, she would push down on and make her body go air born. Slicing her Iron sword to his chest again, but would take out her Iron dagger and throw it at him like one would with a knife.

She dodged the attack to the right. Orcleous wondered if that was habit or just happenstance. He had not seen her dodge enough to make a correlation. Still she moved well enough that he could never call her a slouch. Then again she was a thief and movement was the core of the fighting style. The maiden however was not satisfied with simply dodging and defending. Instead she lowered her body close to the ground and moved to attack with a dash. As she approached Orcleous read the situation. A strike from bellow would go under his guard and gain a good aim at weak points in armor, but, thought the hero. As she rushed forward Orcleous pulled his sword into the air. The hero planned to simply bring the blade down and wack her as she struck. However the maiden added a bit of a twist to it. Rather than simply stay low and strike she jumped into the air and attack with a spinning motion. Her sword aimed for his chest and her other arm threw a dagger
'Fine move', thought Orlcoeu as the weapon flew through the air. The hero however was firm with his decision. Slightly shifting his body Orcleous let the dagger hit him in his side. In his mind he was taking in the account of armor and if not he knew the wound would not kill him. Instead he focused on his attack. The hero swung the blade down with speed and precision. It was time she learned the lesson about jumping attacks. They where good when adding power or surprise, but if your opponent attacked while you where in the air you had very little options when it came to dodging.
Orcleous was expecting a attack from low, but instead he got a aerial assault. However the response was the same. As the attack came Orcleous brought his sword down. His goal was to hit her in the right shoulder, but if it landed anywhere else it was fine. He just preyed that he did not hit her in the left. Though now he was not sure if it was the left or right one that was previously injured.

Her eyes saw the sword and when she was starting to shift her weight and body, his sheath came down onto her left SHOULDER. Screaming in pain, she landed on the ground bouncing a bit. She slowly stood up growling to herself. Flexing her fingers a bit, she would begin to laugh. Then silence. Slowly looking up at him, she would begin to walk towards him again. The tip of her Sword cut into the flooring as she took the sheath out of her belt.
She did a hop then bolted for him yet again. Her sword came up and her sheath as well. Slicing from left To right with her sword, she was expecting for him to block. If he was to, she would lunge forward with the sheath to his chest. If not, she would attack by slicing with her sword and sliced at his knees with the sheath

Crap, thought Orcleous as the blow landed on her bad shoulder. He wanted to avoid that, but fate seemed to play its hand. The hero stared at her for a moment. She was different now, not the same. The way she let the blade scuff against the ground as she walk spoke of danger. Orcleous was not sure what was going on, but the training could have shifted from practice to combat. "This is not good", spoke Orcleous as he looked at the maiden. This fight could turn harry fast. Looking at the dagger, that was now on the ground, Orcleous decided that he needed to remove it from play. He was better than her with a sword, but daggers always snuck up on you. The hero kicked the blade with his boot sending the object sliding across the ground toward the corner of the room.
The moment Orcleous brought his eyes back to the maiden she was rushing toward him. Orcleous main goal was to stop her blade. He could care less about the sheath. It would hurt, but it could not kill him. He had enough cousin with muscle and a leather jacket. As the maiden struck with her sword Orcleous raised up his blade and blocked it. The iron blade cut into the sheath on his silver sword and clanged against the metal on the inside. Naturally the maiden lunged forward stabbing the sheath toward his chest. Orcleous, looking to make a opening, took the blow. The force knocked the breath out of his lungs, but he expected it. After the impact Orcleous grabbed the sheath and with the brute force of his left arm he attempted to rip it clean out of the maidens hand. If he could remove it from battle it would make the situation a lot easier.

Her strength was no level compared to his. Once he yanked it out of her hand, she'd jump back and take four steps as well. Her eyes scanned the room quickly and saw her Iron dagger in the one corner. He'd must likely try to stop her from getting it since he was closer. Raising her blade, she would stand in a defensive stance and watch him.
Breathing slowly, her shoulder began to throb, but she didn't show any signs of pain. "Come Orcleous. Go on the offensive."
If he was to charge at her, she would mirror him and charge at him. She would try to keep up with his attacks, trying to keep the swords to clash amongst themselves.
If not, she would slowly try to circle him. Keeping hee distance from him since he had the strength to break wood with that sword.

Orcleous looked at her for a moment. She spoke. That meant that she did not go into a rage as Orcleosu thought. At the very least that meant that she could be dealt with. For a moment there Orcleous thought he had a berserker on his hands. Size, weight, weapon, it did not matter. People may call the warriors who ride the seas and carry large axes berserkers, but the truth is anyone can be a Berserker. All it took was for your brain to stop thinking about the attack and your subconscious to take over. It sounded complicated, but in truth all it was is simply letting go. Orcleous found himself slipping when he got into tough situations where he started to tank out. That was all it needed for him to suddenly go up in rage. For her he thought it was the shot to the wounded arm, but no. She was fine, no more than fine.
Taking a deep breath Orcleous rushed forward. There was one of her and one of him. He had nothing to fear. Taking advantage of the length of his blade Orcleous swung his blade both low and horizontal. The blade cut parallel to her hip line. The hero's goal was to try and control where she moved. If anything he wanted her to stay in front of him. If he could keep her there he knew he could easily handle this. It was when she moved to the sides or maybe even got behind him that Orcleous could have trouble.

His blade to hee horizontal but low swipes. Timing it, Claira dropped fully to the ground and rolled out of his reach. Quickly getting herself to her feet, she bolted for the dagger that was kicked. Once in reach, she snatched it up into her left hand. Looking towards him, she'd begin to side step til she was lined up with him.
Thinking to herself, "He's been trying to keep me at a distance...that's the weak spot...". Instead of charging him like usual, she threw her Sword off to the side and held the dagger in her hand. Lowering herself to the floor a bit, she awaited his next move.
