It was a cold winter morning. The snow had yet to melt completely, at least in Bern’s residential district. Children were still enjoying what precious moments they still could with snowball fights. It wouldn’t be long until the winter season ended. Viziel chuckled and his exhaled breath quickly condensed. It wasn’t like him to pay attention to unimportant things such as youthfulness, but perhaps the seasonal festivities did rub off on him. Viziel’s smirk vanished within moments though, as if he was disappointed with himself for enjoying the moment. Readjusting his scarf to cover his nose down and his mouth, Viziel continued his lonely walk towards the trading avenue.
The trade district of Bern maintained a steady flow of citizens despite the weather. It wasn’t an oddity to notice bustling streets around there during the daytime. It was evident to him though that as he trekked along the streets that the density of traffic began to slowly ramp up. Some might think that it’d be counterproductive to commit thievery in these hours--legitimately daylight robbery—but years of experience always led Viziel to the hunch that the best time to strike was when it was unexpected.
“Quite convenient,” thought Viziel to himself as he noticed a large gathering around one specific trader and his cart. Although it was hard to make up what exactly the trader was selling, one could probably infer that it had to be some sort of exotic jewelry. It’d be unlikely for the Bernese populace to be this interested in common goods.
As Viziel edged closer and closer to the stand, he noticed that a woman near the front had dropped off some coins into the trader’s hand and received an open-topped, clothed bag in exchange. As she began to take her leave, Viziel took increasingly faster steps towards the woman. A few rude bumps and passive-aggressive shoves were enough for him to get close after the woman left the general vicinity of the stall.
Now behind the woman, Viziel sent a soft shoulder tackle towards her. The impact wasn’t too hard as the tackle connected, but regardless the woman cried out, “Aiii-!” As the woman stumbled down, Viziel attempted to reach out to grasp for her bag. With a forcible thrust, Viziel was able to quickly take hold of the bag with his right hand.
Continuing to walk in the general direction he was originally walking in, Viziel held the bag underneath of his coat and turned his upper body around. Raising his free left hand and giving a light point with his index finger to the general area behind him, Viziel cried out, “Hey, watch it. Don’t push now, will ya?” Murmuring was quick to erupt, and it soon riled up into some sort of argument as to who was at fault. An arguably perfect escape.
Some people didn’t care though and continued to walk on, which was beneficial for Viziel to blend in. With an increasing pace, Viziel carried on walking through the crowded nature of the street. Biting his lip, Viziel thought to himself, “Hopefully that went alright. Don’t think anyone suspects me.”
