The city of Lucerne, midday...
Kyra and Lunie decided that they would be making their way to the Rusted Flagon, in hopes that a hunter or two would be there that Lunie recognized. However, it was still long before the time they would likely be there, if at all. And so, Kyra decided that she would take the scenic route to the tavern, since Lunie didn't know her way around most of the city regardless, so that she could have a chance to show her some of the more impressive sights, and perhaps bond a bit more with her new friend.
Thinking aloud, Kyra spoke, "Hmm, let's see.. We don't wanna go that way, that just leads us there... And that street just takes us to that spot... Ooh, I know! We can go to the candy shop on the far end of town! I have some gold still if you don't have any on you. This place is amazing! You said you've mainly just been in and out of the marketplace, but this store is separate from there by quite a distance, and it's worth every extra step. I can't even begin to describe how absolutely amazing the sweets are at this place! Come on, I'm so excited to show you!" At that, Kyra grabbed Lunie's arm (that hadn't been bitten by the wolf the day before), yanking her along as she rushed to find the building.
After about fifteen minutes of walking, the duo finally arrived at a small building with walls and a roof made entirely of wood that almost seemed to resemble gingerbread. Kyra began bouncing up and down with excitement. "Well, this is the place! The Sweet-toothed Sacaean. I'm kinda warning you though.." Kyra leaned towards Lunie, putting a hand on the side of her mouth, as if the store owner could hear her, "The guy who runs the place is a bit.. um.. eccentric, so I hope you don't mind that."

Selunae followed after Kyra the best she could, sometimes dragging behind to admire the sights. She hadn’t taken the time to appreciate the city of Lucerne in ages, which was strange in and of itself. For so long she had been focusing on learning archery and hunting. It would seem that she’d acclimated herself to nature in the past few years, spending her free time by the river and in the nearby forest rather than getting to know the city itself. The huntress felt a twinge of insecurity from the sheer difference in familiarity between her and the novice. It reminded her of the urgency to not be left behind. After all, if she lost sight of Kyra in these busy streets it could take hours to find her way alone.
As Kyra deliberated over where to go first, Selunae began to pick up on and share her excitement. A candy shop! “Oh wow! Mama used to bring me sweets from the city when I was a little girl! Is it really okay to go? This is so exciting!” The huntress was becoming giddy from the prospect. It seemed the swordswoman was even more eager as she dragged the hapless archer trainee along by the arm. It was only a second before Selunae was keeping up, enthusiastically hurrying alongside her new friend to the establishment in question. The energetic pair had swiftly traversed street after alley after street, gradually slowing their pace over the course of minutes as the initial rush of hype had worn away. Eventually they stood before the building the novice had grown so excited about.
It was certainly a quaint building indeed. The very picture of a gingerbread house, complete with white ‘icing’ accents painted along the corners and edges, and ‘gumdrops’ painted along the walls in brilliant reds, yellows, blues, and greens. It was an enchanting sight, unlike anything the huntress had witnessed. She was completely astounded and breathless, gazing at the building with the wonder and amazement of a child. “...Wooowww.. The whole building.. looks.. delicious..! So..uh.. what is ‘exit trick’? Does that mean he runs away when you aren’t looking?”

As Kyra headed in front of Lunie to hold the door open, she was milling over in her head what Lunie meant by "exit trick". Once she figured it out, she couldn't suppress a slight chuckle. "Oh, eccentric! Well, hmm... It basically just means he cares an awful lot about his work, in this case maybe a bit too much. You'll see what I mean." With that, she opened the door for her red haired friend, allowing her to get the first view of the inside. The first thing that became apparent was he vast assortment of candies that fit inside the small building, which was roughly the size of a small one story house at most. There was everything from colored balls of sugar the size of small spheres, to bars of rich chocolate that had a scent which wafted throughout the entire store.
Beyond the immense variety of sweets was the single store owner, Vassin, standing behind the counter, watching as the two young customers walked in, their faces full of wonder. It brought a smile to the burly Sacaean's face every time younger folks came in, as they were never not amazed by his store. The man was dressed in simple and traditional Sacaean clothing of white coloration, with intertwined pink and blue embellishments all over. His complexion was medium-dark, and he sported a mustache that curled up a bit at the ends, complimenting his face, which seemed always at least a little cheery. It was true that very little could get him upset, and only rarely had he had true outbursts of anger. Chuckling, he called out, "Hey, hey! If it isn't little Kyra! I haven't seen you in a good month or so. Where ya been? And who's this other yung'un ya brought in?"
Kyra beamed at Vassin, happy to see him as well. "Oh, you know, I've just been busy around the house and such. I've actually decided to start adventuring on my own a bit, although I have yet to go further than a few miles outside town, heheh.. A-anyways, this is Lunie! I met her just yesterday, but we're already super close, and I wanted to show her your shop, since she isn't too familiar with most of the main city."

As soon as the door to The Sweet-toothed Sacaean opened, a plethora of sweet odors drifted out to encompass the girls. Bold chocolate was the most prevalent, but other scents of cinnamon, baked apple, and even a few hints of light pastry intertwined with it creating a blend of heavenly aroma that made the huntress’s mouth water. Exit trick.. Eccentric? The girl’s face flushed lightly at the mistake. She still didn’t really grasp the word, but it made enough sense for now. Presumably it would become more clear when she actually met the shop keep. In any case, the sight Selunae was met with as she entered completely blew away the appearance of the store’s exterior. Every possible candy or chocolate the huntress could imagine was spread out before her and even more that she had never considered possible. It was beyond her wildest dreams, just the mere existence of such a place. She was, quite literally, like a kid in a candy shop.
Selunae was visibly bubbling with excitement, even before noticing the large man behind the store counter she had ran to the nearest display shelf. With only brief investigation, she swiftly moved onto the next, and then another. Rich and chewy caramels, jellied fruits dipped in chocolates, nut clusters coated with honey, nearly anything anyone could think of could be found on one of these shelves. It took every bit of restraint Selunae could muster to stop herself from simply stuffing the confections into her mouth. This was a store, not a free buffet. Still though, she couldn’t decide what she wanted. Everything looked like the most delicious thing ever! With so many things to choose from, certainly it would be ridiculous to try to pick just one. After all, the archer trainee couldn’t even choose what she wanted to try first.
Suddenly the girl’s focus on the sweets was disrupted by a man’s voice. That was when she finally noticed and acknowledged the presence of the huge man behind the counter. He was dressed in attire that seemed quite bizarre to her, it was her first time seeing Sacaean attire, or at least paying attention to it if she had seen the likes of it before. He seemed quite friendly though, his demeanor certainly was such that would put people at ease while perusing his wares. The huntress had only been loosely aware of the conversation between the Sacaean and her Bernese friend up to the point that she picked up her name. That perked up her attention though. “Hi! This place is just so.. I want one of everything!”
Vassin responded with a warm laugh. “Ah, you are Kyra’s friend? Perhaps the young lady would enjoy a free sample, courtesy of The Sweet-toothed Sacaean, Lucerne’s premier confectioner and chocolatier?”
Selunae’s eyes grew with delight, her smile threatening to to burst from her face. She was absolutely alight with excitement. “Really?! You-youreallymeanit?!” Such joy expressed by the young huntress was what Vassin lived for. It always warmed his heart to witness such enthusiasm from the youths of the city, and it showed in his face as he watched Selunae skip across the shop to yet another display stand. “Kyra, come look! They look like little hearts! They’re soo cute!”

Kyra couldn't help but grin from ear to ear as she saw Lunie getting so excited about everything in the store, and at Vassin's kindness at offering a free sample to her. She followed the eager girl when she was called over, noting the heart shaped candies she was pointing out. "Heheh, yeah, I guess they are kinda cute! I know it's probably hard to pick what you wanna get, it being your first time here and all. I guess I'll go pick something for myself as well. Go ahead and take your time, but just remember that there's other places in Lucerne I wanna show you too!" Kyra was getting so excited now, and not just because of the candy shop. She loved having another girl her age as a friend, and guiding her around to places she was familiar was more fun than she could've expected.
Moving over to a large basket filled nearly to the brim with small pieces of chocolate in various shapes, she grabbed a few handfuls and carried them over to the counter, handing Vassin the proper amount due, and proceeded to eat a few of them right then and there as she waited patiently for Lunie as she stashed the rest of the chocolate in her bag, content to let her enjoy the place as much as she wished. There was no real rush at the moment, other than possibly less time at the it her places, but Kyra would still entertain Lunie's mysticism with the store, investigating any candies that she deemed interesting along with her, were she to be called over at all.

Selunae was absolutely ecstatic, as if the sight and aroma weren’t enough, a free sample really pushed her over the edge. She finally, after far too much thought and suspense, carefully plucked a single orb of chocolate from a platter. A red drizzle zigzagged across the surface and it appeared to be absolutely scrumptious. With bated breath, she raised it to her lips and suddenly popped it in. With but a single bite, the huntress whirled on her toes in a state of euphoria, arms outstretched as if to dance. “Mmm! Thith one ith amathing!”
If nothing up until this trip had ever proven that Selunae could indeed be ‘girly’ then would certainly prove the naysayers wrong. It was indeed a rare sight to see her carry on in such a manner. She hadn’t even noticed the spectacle she was making until she glanced to the novice and noticed the humor in her expression. Though she blushed a rosy pink, it did nothing to curb her enthusiasm. In no time, after the initial choice of her free sample, the young huntress was able to gather quite a variety of goodies from fine chocolates to jellied fruit gumdrops. Most importantly, she had reserved one of those delicious drizzled truffles for Kyra since she hadn’t seen the novice pick one up for her own and Selunae couldn’t wait for her to try it. Though not really satisfied with the scope of her selection, as she did literally want everything she saw after all, the huntress unloaded her haul on the counter before the Sacaean shop keep.
Vassin chuckled heartily at the selection the huntress had spread before him. “A fine choice, Lunie. I hope ya enjoy ‘em as much as I enjoy making them.”
“Ah, hmm, will this be enough, mister uhhmm...” Selunae fumbled over her thoughts, not knowing his name. She plunked a scattering of coins beside the candies and gazed at Vassin expectantly.
“Vassin, purveyor of fine confections and chocolatey goodness. You have just enough, they’re all yours.” The eccentric man was fibbing, the young huntress had actually been a tiny bit short of the price. The glee he had witnessed more than made up for the difference. He even gave Selunae a couple coins back as change. The huntress was none the wiser for it though, although she was overjoyed with her purchase all the same.
“Kyra! Here, I got this’n for you!” Selunae skipped over to the novice with a cute giggle and offered the truffle she had taken a sample of earlier. “It’s so good!”

Now that Lunie had made her purchase, Kyra stood up, getting ready to go elsewhere, when Lunie handed her one of the truffles of the same kind she had tried for free. "O-oh, thank you, Lunie. Really, you shouldn't have.. I didn't get you anything, after all." Taking the piece of candy guiltily and popping it into her mouth, she brightened up a bit at the sweet taste of it. "Wow, you weren't kidding. This is amazing! Well, I guess now that we've both got what we want, we should get going to the next place. It should be between here and the center of town if I recall correctly..."
Just as she was about to walk out the door with Lunie, Kyra turned back around, waving goodbye to the shopkeep. "Seeya Vassin! Hopefully it won't be as long of a wait before I stop in again!" Vassin simply chuckled, also waving goodbye to the energetic young girls. Hopefully they weren't planning on getting into too much trouble. They seemed to be a pretty rambunctious duo.
As Kyra started to lead Lunie where they were going, she decided to start up some small talk, moving at a more normal pace now compared to before, partially to also allow the two of them to each enjoy some of their candy while they walked. "Heheh, I figured you'd like the place Lunie, but wow, you absolutely were in love! I bet you'd marry the building if you could. Guess you have quite the sweet tooth yourself." Taking a pause to eat one of her chocolate bars, she continued after taking the first bite, "I think you'll like the next place just as much, if not more. I wanna keep it a surprise though until you actually get to step foot inside the place."

Selunae gathered her collection of candies into a small pouch, choosing a red gumdrop from among them before tying a drawstring to close the pouch off. “Oh it’s nothin’. Tha’s what friends are for, right?” The huntress giggled, watching as her friend consumed the candy. “See? I toldja! So.. where to next? Oh, and bye Mister Vassin! Thank you!” Selunae turned with a wave as she followed Kyra out of the candy shop, leaving behind her the tantalizing aromas that swirled within. This place had truly been a surprise. To think that it had always been here and she had never known about it. If she could ever find this place again, she would certainly return.
As the huntress popped the gumdrop into her mouth a sugary coating began to slowly dissolve on the surface, melting in her mouth as she followed Kyra. “It really is a magical place! It would be weird to marry a candy shop, though,” Selunae began sticking her tongue out at Kyra before expressing a thoughtful frown, “..Besides, if I married a guy that gave me candy like that all the time, I’d get fat!” She patted her belly for emphasis and laughed. “You’re not gonna tell me where yer takin’ me next? Aw! Now I’m really curious!”
Taking a gander at the buildings they were passing, a shop named Barley’s Bread caught her idle curiosity, mainly for its use of a painted sculpture of a delicious-looking bread loaf as its sign, with a wooden placard affixed to the ends dangling below. Well, whatever, she’d had bread for breakfast anyway. The smell emanating from establishment still made her mouth water all the same though, so Selunae dug into the candy pouch again, retrieving a chocolate this time. “So, umm, Kyra? I was wondering.. What is your um.. favorite food?” The young archer shoved the chocolate into her mouth without a second thought.

"Hmmm, my favorite food... You know, I haven't normally thought about that sort of thing, but I guess if I'm allowed to have multiple answers, then I very much like sweet rolls, toasted bread, and apples. I know that's an odd assortment, but that's my answer. What about you? At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if your answer is just all candy, heheh." Kyra was highly enjoying herself right now, and she was even more excited knowing they were fast approaching the next destination.
Once the pair arrived, the first thing they would have noticed was the simple sign that read "Susanne's Small Animals". It was apparently the upon entering the shop that the basic wooden sign was certainly not misleading, as various animals, all of relatively small size, could be seen all across the shop. Ranging from babies to full-grown adults, there were bunnies, reptiles, fish, and certain kinds of cats and dogs, among other things. Some were more exotic, and others more plain and domesticated, but either way, the store was filled with animals. Kyra leaned over to Lunie and said, "To tell you the truth, I've never been here myself either. I figured it'd be nice for us to both experience something new together, since I'd already been to the candy shop before. So, which animals should we look at first? They're all pretty cute looking!"
Personally, Kyra was eyeing a few of the birds towards the back of the store, some of which looked to be ravens, which had always fascinated her since she was a young child, but since she knew they'd pass by many other animals before ever reaching them, she figured it'd be best to give Lunie the first choice of what to look at, in addition to it just feeling like common courtesy to do so.

Selunae was flustered by the novice’s presumption. “I’ll have ya know, I am partical.. um.. particularly fond of cheese. Although, ya know.. the candy is reallyreallygood too.” The huntress had admitted that last part in a bit more subdued manner, touching the fingertips of her index fingers together in front of her and avoiding eye contact, as if feeling a little guilty about it.“When I was a lil’ girl my father would bring cheese home from the farm when we could afford it. Mama didn’t really like it, but it was a special treat we shared together. I guess ya could say it’s my favorite, and I love apples!” It took nothing for the huntress to bounce back and besides her energy knew no bounds this afternoon. While on the subject of favorites, she decided to mention what she wasn’t so fond of as well. “My parents love those big melons that grow in the summer, but I don’t really like ‘em so much. Oh, and I use’ta help out at the orchard with the apple harvest when I wasn’t out huntin’ and stuff, and they let me eat all the apples I wanted! I bet you’da loved it!” With cheery enthusiasm, she nudged the novice. “Maybe we can visit the orchard to help together this year! Harvest is several months away but I bet they’ll let us help out.”
As they walked along the streets to what was revealed to be a rather understated shop. A simple sign, nothing extravagant or flamboyant. Quite the opposite of The Sweet-toothed Sacaean. ‘Susanne’s Small Animals’ displayed professionally on the sign. Selunae didn't seem to be particularly moved by it. The bread shaped sign had gotten more of a response from her. Her mother had certainly never taken her to a pet shop before, though. Elle didn’t want to deal with animals. She hadn’t really wanted to live in the outskirts in the first place. Selunae hadn’t been allowed any pets, not even strays, and it had been a truly sad experience growing up without them.
“Omigods!” It was the first thing out of the huntress’s mouth as soon as she entered the building. It was followed soon by.. “Kitties!” Sure enough, the girl practically ran to a display where several felines were confined. Assorted coat patterns from a solid white, to the patchy orange and black of a calico, and a gray stripes of a tabby. One curious cat with leopard spots was a little larger than the others, but they were all so ridiculously adorable. Each of the animals scrambled to the side for her attention, though. “Oh my, you’re soo cute!” By this point, Selunae was in her own little world and had no sense of whether Kyra had followed her or not. She had scarcely noticed anything beyond the presence of the cats, and she cooed over them and scratched behind their ears. “Who’s adorable? Yoouuu are! Yes you are!”

Not wanting to make Lunie feel rushed, Kyra decided to just follow along with her and look at whichever animals that her friend decided to, at least until they arrived towards the back where the birds were located. Lunie's excitement towards the kittens at the front end of the store was amusing for Kyra, and seeing all the baby felines swarm Lunie's legs, each of them vying for her undivided attention, was quite the heartwarming sight. "I can see you're loving this place already, Lunie! Ooh, look! There's some bunnies over against the wall there. Maybe we should go check those out next!"
Heading over to the closest bunny cage, Kyra spotted a small black one with occasional white spots covering it's body. Reaching a finger through the bars, she began petting it between the ears, to which it responded by moving closer and snuggling up into a ball on the cage's edge and closing it's eyes, some of it's fur sticking out from between the bars. "Aww, Lunie, look. The little guy fell asleep when I started petting him. That's so cute!"
This was definitely a solid decision to come here. It's nice to get some stress relief, especially from what happened last night with that wolf, and this morning with Lunie's mother. Not to mention that we're gonna probably be doing some pretty stressful stuff in the near future, trying to get those hunters free from the bandits. I'm just glad we have this free time. It should be savored, because who knows when we might be able to do this sort of thing again if we'll be adventuring in the future, too?

Almost not even registering the novice’s words, the huntress immediately became alert at the mention of bunnies. Selunae loved rabbits to the point of refusing to hunt them, much to the chagrin of the hunters she intended to rescue. To them, meat was meat whether it began as something ‘cute’ or not. Well, it didn’t work that way for her. Luckily, as far as her hunting credibility was concerned anyway, she didn’t find deer to be all that cute. Well the itty bitty babies, sure, but grown deer not so much. Especially with those pointy stabby antlers. Bunnies didn’t have stabby antlers (despite Stanvir’s drunken claims that one time, not that she really believed him).
Selunae squealed suddenly with delight the moment her eyes came to rest on the furry leporidae. “OmigodsIwantthem!” The huntress abandoned the felines immediately in favor of a lagomorph with velutinous fur the color of milk chocolate. Though these were decidedly less attention-mongering than the cats, they were at least receptive to human interaction. For some reason there were a much greater number of rabbits than the other, similar-sized mammals. Many more kits as well. “There’s.. sooo.. many of them! Iwantthemall!” The girl reached into the cage to stroke her hand across the chocolate bunny and squealed again. The fur was sooo soft! She leaned to the cage and continued to stroke the bunny, glancing to Kyra and the sleeping bunny. There was a gasp of surprise and another squeal. It was the cutest thing ever, sleepy bunny! It made the huntress a little jealous since the adorable fluff ball she was lavishing her attention upon was still lively as ever. It took a little wind out of her sails, not because it made them any less cute, just because she felt like the bunnies liked her less than they did Kyra. The huntress could be peculiar like that about silly things sometimes. As if that wasn’t bad enough, during her distracted thoughts Selunae allowed her finger to linger in front of one of the younger rabbits and without warning there was a sharp pain. The huntress jerked her finger back and yelped, glaring at the pitifully adorable critter. “It bit me!”
Selunae couldn’t remain upset at the innocent little devil, but still that had, at least for the moment, removed her interest in them. Pausing along the way to glance over a few small dogs (she greatly preferred large dogs), she moved on to a row of cages that each housed a variety of songbirds. They immediately began chirping in a raucous manner at her approach, either excited or afraid. The huntress didn’t know which. There was much fluttering of wings and birds shifting position in the cages. With this much disorder, her guess was fear. She felt bad for the poor things cooped up in cages where they couldn’t spread their wings and fly. Reminded her of home and of her mother. This put the biggest damper on her spirit seen since Elle’s reaction to Kyra announcing their intent to seek out those bandits. She pondered ‘accidentally’ releasing the birds from their prisons but there wasn’t really anywhere for them to go but a closed in shop. No, it would never work. She gave a sorrowful glance back to Kyra, and a plaintive sigh. These birds were meant to be free, just like the two adventurers.

Aww, I had no idea Lunie loved bunnies this much, hehe! Now she's definitely enjoying this place! As Kyra finished stroking the black bunny she'd been drawn to, she noticed that the one Lunie had been trying to pet had gone and bitten her. Gasping slightly, Kyra went over to make sure she was okay. "Are you alright, Lunie? Oh, I guess it isn't too bad. It is just a bunny after all, I suppose. Rabbits in general can't really hurt anyone too badly. Let's go take a look at some other animals to help get your mind off of it!"
Kyra liked Lunie's line of thinking as she headed back towards the songbirds. Granted, that wasn't the bird she he had her eyes set on, but they were in the right section of the store, so it was something. She noticed that Lunie had stopped to stare at the birds, who seemed afraid from inside their cage. Kyra immediately knew what Lunie was thinking, at least for the most part, when she noticed how much the huntress seemed to be empathize with them. Kyra placed a hand on Lunie's shoulder. "I know you probably wish those birds were let go, but there's only so much you can do at this point. All we can do is hope they find a way out of here someday, and that they're brought to a proper home or something."
As Kyra finished her mini speech, she spotted the raven out of the corner of her eye, and she instantly walked over to it, clearly excited by the prospect of seeing one up close. The large bird stood just over a foot or something tall, and as Kyra approached, the raven began sticking it's beak out hungrily from between the bars of its cage, which it sat alone in, secluded from all the other birds. It was at this point that Kyra noticed a scar going right over it's left eye, which was clearly blinded. She felt immense pity for the poor bird, realizing that it would never survive in the wild, but also wishing it didn't have to be alone in a cage. Reaching into her bag, she took out one of the smaller candies from earlier, a fairly simple ball of sugar, nothing more, and held it out in her hand towards the bird, which gladly accepted it, grabbing it with its beak and tilting it's head up to let it fall down its throat.
After it's appetite was sated, the raven seemed to happily dance around a bit from side to side on the small branch it was using as a roost. Leaning a but closer, Kyra tried speaking with the bird. "Hello there, little guy! My name is Kyra. You must be awfully brave and strong to have gained a scar like that and survive. You must be quite the little raven soldier!" After a moment of what almost seemed like the bird processing the words she spoke, it let out words of its own, mimicking the pitch of Kyra's own voice, but sounding a bit harsher and with more of a croak to it. "Hel-lo... there..."
Turning to Lunie in amazement, Kyra exclaimed, "Wow, I didn't know ravens could do that, did you? Ahhh, that's so cool!" To anyone outside of Kyra herself, it almost seemed a bit of an oddity that someone, especially a relatively younger girl such as herself, was excited most about a raven, something so typically perceived by many to be an omen of death. But to Kyra, these animals were no different from any other, and in fact to her, they were her favorite animal.

Kyra had seemed to pay little mind to the plight of the small birds as she passed, though as she commented in passing, there wasn’t really anything Selunae could do to help. Even if the archer hadn’t dumped the majority of her money into her candy craving it wouldn’t have been enough for a grand bird bailout. The discordant chorus of shrill tweets still continued all the same. Rather than make any attempt to reach for the birds and startle them further, the huntress moved on alongside Kyra to the cages toward the corner. The bigger birds were housed here, typically each alone in their own cage. Selunae’s attention was drawn to a hawk which nearly motionlessly monitored the pair of girls, turning only its head as they moved closer. Kyra’s attention was elsewhere, focused on a large black bird.
Selunae was more interested in the hawk. She’d heard stories of hunters using them to to catch small animals or even fish. They could even be trained to deliver messages although that wouldn’t help her much. She knew she couldn’t afford to buy the hawk, and even more so she had no idea how to train one. Her attention span for birds was just on the cusp of expiring when the unthinkable (for her at least) happened. The raven spoke to Kyra. “D-did that bird just talk?!”
The huntress grew intrigued and moved in close beside the novice. Oh wow, what a scar.. “Oooh.. my turn. Say.. I love you. I love you. C’mon, I love you..” She waited with bated breath hoping the bird would respond. That was sooo cool the way it had greeted Kyra, unless her friend had been playing a joke on her while she was focused on the hawk. She was rewarded, though. The creaky scratchy voice croaked out, in a similar tone to Selunae, “My turn.. my turn..”
The huntress was still so excited that the bird actually mimicked her that she didn’t care that the bird quoted the wrong part. She clapped her hands in delight all the same. She’d never heard of such a thing before, a bird that could talk like a human! She turned to Kyra in excitement. “It’s really talking!”

Kyra was had been running around the yard, trying to avoid being caught by her father, but she was growing exhausted, collapsing on the ground. Taking the opportunity, Veris swooped his daughter up from the ground, much to her mixed delight and surprise. "Weeee! You got me daddy! You win!" While Kyra was being swung around, she noticed a dark, pitch black bird up in the tree, hunched over and watching the whole scene play out between her and her father. "Um... daddy? What's that black bird up there? He looks kinda mean..."
Veris chuckled a bit. "Oh, don't worry, Kyra. That's just a raven. They're very curious critters, and they might look mean, and people might say they mean something bad, but they're just birds like any other." Veris wasn't about to acknowledge to his own daughter that he had superstitions of his own regarding ravens. His own mother had always told him that seeing them nearby was a portent of death to come, either to oneself, or someone they were close to, but when exactly was never known. He'd never really been able to shake the superstition, and the fact that he had seen a raven at some point shortly before almost every death of a comrade that he'd witnessed definitely didn't help. "Hey, Kyra, how about we go inside now? I think your mother wanted us inside a little while ago."
Kyra looked at the raven, then back at her father, puzzled. "Well, why though? I wanted to keep watching the raven! It's kinda pretty now that I keep looking. And I don't think mommy even called us in..." Getting visibly sadder, she rested her head on her father's shoulder as he continued to hold her up.
"I'm sorry Kyra. You can look at the ravens some other time. For now, let's go have a nice family talk or something..." Noticing now that a flock of maybe a dozen ravens had joined the first one, each of their eyes set dead center on him, Veris began to grow very nervous. "Um, yes, right now. Let's go inside right now, Kyra!"
Present day...
Kyra wasn't sure if Lunie realized that the raven was simply mimicking their voices, as she had caught on to, but she decided it was best to keep the girl's amazement active rather than shut it down so soon with reality. "Yeah, I guess ravens know how to talk to people. Heheh, he seems to like you too, Lunie. So, uh, are there any other animals you wanted to look at? I think it's starting to get kinda late, so we may only be able to go to one more place at most before we need to arrive at the tavern."
