Name: Yao
Class: Cavalier
Dragon Element: N/A
Age: 23
Born In: Carrhae
Appearance: Yao is a young Caucasian man with stoic green eyes and finely combed blue-green hair. He stands at 6 ft. 1 in. tall when not mounted upon horse. The young man possesses a decent amount of muscle mostly in his legs and arms from learning to swing a sword and ride a horse, but he's not someone a person would mistake for a pushover despite having less muscle along his torso. Yao now only possess one set of clothes and armor that are gifts from the lord he serves. They consist of a finely pressed black and blue tunic with buttons down the midriff and a high-brimmed collar, brown cotton pants held up by a brown belt with a brass buckle and black leather riding boots. His lord also has given him access to a blue and purple cloak for riding in rough weather. When in combat Yao wears a red iron breastplate and gauntlets with green iron vambraces and cuisses. He has no helmet as he states it distracts him from seeing things as he's riding. Finally, Yao will strap a red and green shield patterned with diamonds on it to his left arm and carry his sword or lance with his right arm. When not using either his sword will hang from a belt on his left side and his lance may be strapped horizontally next the saddle bag on his horse via a set of hooks.
Personality: Initially, Yao was an impulsive lad fresh from his father's armory in Carrhae. He wanted to impress people and make a big name for himself as a hero or adventurer but his older brother Yeo reeled him in. Yeo taught him, "You can impress people but it has to be the right kind of people if you want to make it in this world." And so, with these words Yao learned chivalry the art of impressing women (at least that's what he thought it was for). It allowed him to be seen as a proper cavalier who went out of his way to ferry women and children to their destination on his horse Clip Clop, open doors for them, and protect them and normal civilians when under duress. He stayed this way a while until he heard about the horrors of gargoyles that nearly took his brother's life in the siege of Ostia three years prior. He's heard it's because of a magic user the city and because their kind usually equal witches he's switched his code of chivalry to protecting the nearest lords he can find instead. Most of the time he also expresses an outward stoic demeanor alongside this to counteract the threat of people who might harm his charges.
History: Armories are the sweltering, warm homes of weapon smiths. This was the kind of environment Yao was born into. While he received love and affection from his father, mother and brother Yeo Yao had to work hard in return. He mostly carried fire and water buckets for his father who intended to teach both his sons how to craft weapons. Unfortunately, when Yao was eight his twelve year old brother Yeo left home. Yao had no clue what his brother was up to but when he left home eight years later to look for him he found him in the employ of some lord in Taras between Sacae and Etruria.
Yao learned to be a squire and cavalier from his brother on the behalf of said lord who wished to have another bodyguard. Yao was given a horse and taught knightly ways for the next our years until his brother Yeo was sent out into battle by said lord to protect Ostia and the trade goods it provided. It was during this time Yao waited for his sibling to come home for the lord kept him close at hand for protection in case the worst happened. It did and soon word of a burnt out city reached Yao and rumors of witches having started the attack in the first place. Yao thought his brother to be dead but Yeo soon rode in from that war with a badly broken leg. Apparently, he claimed a gargoyle lifted him from his horse and tried to carry him off but Yeo would not say anything more than that.
Now Yao has only one goal. Continue to protect castle towns like Taras and find the magical beings who did this. He intended to slay every single one of them and since he had never seen real action in his long years of training he was ready to fight. Yao desperately invoked revenge in his heart. Nobody was going to go home dead save the witches that did this.
NPC Fight: Three soldiers armed with spears charged Yao and his chestnut brown steed Clip. They knew that he, sitting atop of his horse, was an easy target for the long reach of their spears. Yao though had a little experience with a sword and so with a good swing of his blade drawn straight from his scabbard at his hip he hoped to swing low, fast, and knock the spears away. Unfortunately he was a bit slow and only managed to knock two spear tips out of the way of him and his horse. The next thing he knew a dull sensation shot through his arm as the third spear he forgot to hit lodged itself in the forearm of his sword hand. Blood trickled down from it and his horse whined as he pulled his arm out and swung wildly at the spear once more to knock it away as well.
“Drat,” he told himself, “my brother told me never to engage an enemy like this for this exact reason. I might as well retreat before they kill me.”
He’d kick the sides of his horse causing Clip Clop to rise on his back haunches and kick his feet into the air. The fiery horse’s spirit frightened the soldiers who backed away from the dangerous hooves Yao’s horse possessed. Yao then wheeled around and with one good whip of the reins commanded Clip Clop to run. The last thing these soldiers saw was a few drops of blood on the ground and a large dust cloud where Yao once stood.
PC Fight: Two knights in red and green armor faced one another each holding their sword aloft before them. They'd almost look like twins for a difference in terms of this garb, their height, body shape, and eye color too but one thing told them apart as they circled each other. trying to find openings to strike one another; their hair. Yao, the brother with finely combed over green blue hair shuffled slowly across the floor while his opposite brother Yeo moved with a quicker step and had rather static, spiky blue green hair rising from his scalp. It really did not matter what color their hair really was for both were in combat but the issue was that Yao knew he'd been doing this for the last three minutes. He couldn't find a place to strike his brother and win their sword fight.
Yao hoped to lunge forward on his feet and thrust into Yeo's chest the tip of his sword, made completely from wood for safety purposes, but the younger brother knew his elder would swing down and whack his hands making him drop his sword. If he tried to rush forward and slide behind his brother a quick spin and kick by him at Yao's legs would send him hurtling into the ground, maybe knock them both over! If Yao went for Yeo's legs a low swing of his brother's sword could knock it from his hands or strike against the side of his shoulder or face. Yao needed an opening.
Yao decided it was time to do the uncouth! He wanted to win to impress his brother and so he played a dirty trick. The young man took one look at the length of his sword then threw it chucking it at Yeo's face. While the older brother found himself distracted Yao hoped to rush forward and punch him in the chest with his gauntlet. Instead, as he committed towards this action rushing forward after lobbing his sword at him he found his brother dodging it just at the last second simply by tilting his head to the side. Yao was already in motion though so there was no plan other than the one he concocted. Yao pulled his fist back and with a great deal of force tried to throw it forward at his brother's chest like he wanted instead Yeo's hand reached out, grabbed his and twisted it. It was over as Yao bent down to the floor with tears in his eyes. His elder brother won.
Misc: Yao is styled after the Cavalier archetype "Cain & Abel" he tends to be someone who can take more hits due to his strong constitution, defensive capabilities and ability to resist magic. The problem with him though is his sword swings are weaker, not all that accurate, and sometimes he can be seen as slow or unlucky when facing off against someone like his brother with more experience. Overall, he may make a better Great Knight one day instead of a Paladin.
