Thought about having Aaron hit a bandit's beer flask with a fire ball, and having it explode. That's just creative RPing. What about coming up with some single use items that can augment certain spells.
Mods could be in charge of passing them out to people, so as to keep them limited. Gunpowder for fire, copper filings for thunder, Sorceror's sand, I guess, for dark and light. Black sand and White sand.
Could introduce poisons for weapons. That would keep them out of the mainstream, and prevent them from being overused.

Like in Radiant Dawn? Reaper cards and Venn edges, blades, etc. I like it but there already a lot of magic characters, so would there be a point?

Was thinking about somthing more like a mage throwing a cloud of gunpowder out in the air, and casting fire on it. Boosting the effectiveness of the fire attack.
Thats just an example. There would be other applications if it's accepted.
I know poison was shot down at some point, because there weren't any easily implementable ideas. Thought I'd post it here since it seems magic is getting all the perks recently.
Anyway, PvP RPing would still work the same. It's roleplaying, you roleplay it. the poison doesn't get stats, the person being poisoned would just RP as if they were sluggish, or woozy.
This is assuming the poison is a knockout agent. Maybe after 2-4 posts it would wear off. Hows that sound?
The poison could be applied to weapons or could be thrown in the victims face as a liquid, ect.
-Gunpowder: Improves explosive power to equal a critical hit. -Copper Filings: Improves electric conduction, increasing power to equal critical hit. -Mirror Shards: Reflects light to increase power of a light spell to critical hit. -Black sand: Creates a cloud to darken the area, resulting in a critical dark attack.
I guess This could be an "In character" way of passing out Crits. The sage animation even has something similar to this for it's Crit.
Making it an Item passed out by mods, as loot, would keep it under control and from being abused. Just some thoughts.
Edit: Heh...had forgotten about Reaper cards, but if they get implemented...Would have to spell out exactly what their magic was like, and would have to be mod controlled again probably...

I like the idea as a way to actually control critical hits and have them make sense, other than "Oh! I'm shining for no reason! Strong attack!". The problem is actually handing them out. We'd have to find some circumstances during which it makes sense for you to find these(no, there's no gunpowder lying around in Sacae), and then decide who gets what and why.

Could be as simple as loot. After completing a large campaign thread, use an RNG to set up a chance to get one of these items. Like Wyatt did at the end of "Out of the Frying Pan".

Wait, creating items to power up magic attacks is one thing, but itemizing critical hits is something else. The idea behind critical hits is that they are both rare, and could happen at almost any time. I understand that "luck based" abilities can be hard to balance, but handing out these trump cards doesn't seem right. And what was that about the sage critical looking like this? Sage criticals look like the sage creating a huge glyph before turning it into a regular one. It does not show them throwing powder at the enemy to make the spell explode on contact.

Heh, well I don't really like the idea of "itemizing" crits either, but who says that you couldn't keep on critical-ing as is. It doesn't seem that criticals are overused now, with the current system. I just think that it would be neat to have "gadgets" like these.
Crits could still be used as normal, just that there would be something extra added in to the rp. Using these would be like using a weapon. For example:
Could be used to bring some interesting Rping into play. Maybe a Fire mage lays an ambush by scattering gunpowder on the ground before a fight. Would be nice to have various possibilities like that available, thats all.
As to the sage, I don't think it's good to limit how various classes perform their magic. Nintendo just got a cool animation and stuck with it. That doesn't mean they'd always do the same thing to attack.
I guess I was thinking that these could be like something similar to the triangle attack. They wouldn't be trump cards necessarily, just another type of weapon that would add to the rp. After all, those types of tools would be carried by mages at times.
I'll stop blathering now and let someone else comment.....

You magic users get something that adds damage but us melee gets nothing. To be fair shooting a fireball at a barrel of gunpowder is using your surrounding to attack. What's going to stop me from taking out some flint and tender, which any smart traveler should have with them, grabbing a stick or something that burns, starting a fire and throwing it at the gun powder? Sure I'll have to still worry about combat but unless you're fighting in an open field each time there will be something to proved cover even for a second.
Now poisons are just like a venom. They effect the victims different. Some spider venom attacks the nervous system and others just eat away your flesh. Now let's say the poison we add attacks the nervous system. You're in the middle of the woods and you're attacked and i have poison on my weapon. I cut or stab you and steal your money and run. Guess what, time to reroll just because your body has this foreign substance attacking and it has zero clue what it is nor what to do to stop it. Like 200 years ago you could die from a cold. Sure it would give the anti toxin a use but wouldn't it be somewhat power playing making sure your character always has some with them?
