Selk, trying to keep an air of calm about himself, steps casually in the direction of the three and stops a few feet from them. He takes a deep breath as he turns to see Denzel up with him and Malachi hanging back a bit still. He picks up where Sir Malachi had left off in hopes of saving their situation, at least to a degree, "We thought maybe we could get some clear directions. You know...make sure we're headed in the right direction to reach our destination?"

The archer turned to whisper something to one of the men next to him, who nodded and stands up.
The swordsman stands, his blade still sheathed. "All right, I'll hear what you have to say." But when he can see them he blinks. "Children? Out here?" And he then waves to the archer.
"What on earth are you two doing heading towards Ostia? Haven't you heard the rumors? It's not safe over there." The man appears to be somewhere in his early late twenties. "That place is gonna be a war zone soon enough, you'd best turn around now."

I suppose he's definitely not Ertrurian then. Denzel thought. What with how young mages graduate the academies, seeing kids abroad would be a lot less strange a sight to them if they were. I suppose I could try a sobstory... but they'll probably remember that the whole reason they heard is because of our armor sooner or later... Denzel decided to take different approach. 'Ostia? Heavens no! My friend and I were on our way to [Denzel ran the map through his head as quickly a he could] Worde, I see we got lost even more then I realized. Has war really been declared in Ostia?'

"Worde?" The man echoed. "You're heading too far north, you need to head more south west from here." He said, pointing in a direction. "War hasn't been declared officially yet, but word is the Erturian Army is on the move. They already made an attack into Sacae, and now there is a rumor of them turning their eyes to Lycia."
While this information sank in, the quiet night was disturbed. Anyone with a good sense of ears would hear a rustling in the brush somewhere between Denzel and the man, and off to the side of the road.
And the man placed a hand on his sword as the bow behind him was brought up again.
"I see..."

Denzel lowered his hands and stepped back from where the noise was coming from with a fearful look on his face. Once he could, he and Selk could just take their leave and have the group move around this place and leave theses three in peace. As long as nothing happens to force to draw my blade, we're fine. Denzel thought.

Wein, who had been moving closer during the conversation, eyed the group. Their attention had all focused on a rustling bush, and now, so had Wein's. Lifting his bow, he aimed at the bush...and waited.

Selk, too, had heard the rustling in the bushes. He didn't immediately react the way the other three did, but after he saw them prepare to draw their weapons, save for the archer who had his weapon out already, Selk put his left hand back and his right hand up behind his head to grasp his lance with both hands in preparation as well. This isn't what we need right now. He thought, keeping his gaze turned on the bush.

There was tense silence for a time, and Wyatt seemed to become aware that something was happening, though he couldn't tell what and dared not ask.
The swordsman stared right at Denzel, his hand on his sword, and flinched when he saw Selk raise his weapons. The archer still kept his bow leveled at the bush, while the axeman stood up and prepared himself.
Tense silence for but a moment, until something came jumping out of the darkness. Whatever it was tackled the archer down, and knocked him into the campfire. The rustling in the bushes was still audible over his screams as the creature bounded off of him at the axe man.
The swordsman rounded quickly, turning his back to Denzel and company, but there was enough noise around them to say that they were not alone.
They probably had but moments before more things would come flying from the brush.
OOC: In case you didn't get it, you get a very small amount of time to get into a formation if you wish. It should be noted, those who were ahead (Denzel, Selk, Malachi) could be reached by the rear group, but only barely.

Aaron was listening to the events unfolding ahead. He'd heard Yaen muttering something about money, and Wein was beginning to near the clearing. In fact, it had gone very quiet and Wein was aiming at something.
"We should move up." He said just before he heard a swift rush of leaves joined quickly by a man screaming. He broke into a dash and reached for his tome. Rustling was audible all around the clearing. It sounded like the very plant life had come alive.
He was only a few steps away from the clearing when something came hurtling into him from the darkness next to the road. Aaron went sprawling and his fire tome landed about an arm's span out of reach. He tried to get up, but the dark blur was on him before he could get up. The best he could do was seize it by the head and hold it back.
The creatures strength was astounding for something it's size. Aaron's muscles, though exercised by plenty of outdoor work, were stressed to the breaking point, and wouldn't last long. What he could see of the creature (it's snapping jaws) terrified him, but the stench was what really got to him. The creature's breath seared his face as it breezed across him, leaving mildly burnt patch of skin. He felt drops of the creature's foaming saliva drip onto his face and heard a hissing noise as the liquid burned into him.
He yelled out as he struggled with the creature, hoping someone would take this problem off of his hands. "I guess this is what I get for being ready sooner."

Denzel drew his sword as he wanted to spring to the aid of struggling axemen but soon had his own monstrosities to deal with. He swung out with his sword at one of them, hoping to cut off a limb off one of them but these things proved more agile then they seemed. It deftly leaped out of the way as another made it own swoop out at Denzel with it's talons. The young cavalier hit the ground with force, but still he knew he was lucky, if it wasn't for his armour, he might have been much more badly hurt. He quickly found one of the creatures bearing down on him. This time Denzel was more prepared, the arm bearing down on him was met with quick stab from his sword. Not wasting the opportunity he had created, he crawled away and got back on his feet. The way this is going I'll get seperated from the rest here, and further from the campfire. I need to think of something fast.

Having already drawn his bow and notched an arrow, Wein sent the wooden shaft flying into the beast that assaulted Aaron. The creature howled and stumbled off of Aaron, injured, but not dead. Growling, the beast turned toward it's new assailant. It's eyes burned with a primal fury that Wein could only identify as evil. The beast leaped and knocked Wein off of the horse he was on. Wein was thrown to the ground as the beast landed on it's feet and prepared for another attack. Grimacing as he pulled himself to his still weakened feet, Wein drew an arrow and held it like a dagger. There was no point in trying to shoot an arrow at this range, so he'd just have to try and drive the arrow into the monster's eye.

Malachi had been quite through most the conversation, he wasn't much of a negotiator. Malachi stayed still while the others conversed until he saw the others focused on a bush that was rustling, of which Malachi couldn't really hear due to his not-so-good hearing. Before he could react in any way, a creature jumped from the bush and attacked the archer, and soon attacked others around him.
A creature tackled Denzel and Malachi went to draw, but before he could another one of the creatures crashed into him. He skid back a few feet, but kept standing, tensing and pushing his weight forward. The creature pushed down hard on his shoulder and upper chest, it snapped towards Malachi's face but he lifted up his left arm and its talons bit into it. He gave a cry of anger and pain, grabbed his helmet that was attached to his belt with is right arm, and bashed the creatures head with it.
Malachi stumbled forward a bit and slipped on his helmet out of instinct (have helmet in hand, put it on head). He looked up at the creature, dazed a bit, but could make out the it was scurrying around, and was coming back at him. Malachi drew his lance, this time ready for the attack.

What the!?! Selk screamed in his head with a look of fear and perplexity as the first beast launched itself from the bush and took down the archer. These things....they're not like any animal I've ever seen.....What's going on?
He quickly readied his lance only to find another of the creatures lunging at him from behind. He managed to turn enough so that he could smack it's head away with the bottom end of his lance. He turned around to face it with the business end of his weapon so that he could take care of it when it decided to do another attack. He didn't have time to check on anyone else now. These things were fast....
Selk had just turned to face the beast when he noticed it was already inside his attack range, practically breathing on his face. It leaped upward. shoving its body into Selk's chest and knocking him to the ground. Selk shoved the handle of his lance into its throat to keep it from biting off his face. That didn't stop it from trying, though, and it was trying.

Wyatt was lucky, apparently. He seemed to be one of the only ones that didn't has one of these beasts on him. He might have been insulted if he didn't notice Aaron next to him, fending off the thing.
"Bad Dog!" He said, raising up his hatchet and bringing it down. It struck the beats skin, which was as tough as leather, and the handle splintered. Never the less the beast leaped off of Aaron and growled at the both of them.
"Hmm, glad I bought this..." Wyatt remarked, pulling out his Iron Axe. "Ok then boy, let's play."
The beast lunged at his once again, as he reading his axe for a sharp downward slash.
Meanwhile the archer had stopped screaming as his throat became a bloody mess. The axeman and the swordsman were busy dealing with the one they had, it wasn't going well.

Yaen gave a startled jump as some ....thing attacked Aaron. "What is that thing!?" he demanded of no one, brandishing his iron sword. "I told you this was a bad idea!" he shouted towards Wein. As the beast tackled the archer off his horse, the Sacaen charged forward, letting out a grunt of a war cry before swinging as the beasts back. The shallow cut he made deeply disturbed the myrmidon. "This things got the hide of a wild boar!"
