The words of that strange old man Heleth still echoed in Valikae's head, The blood of Ostia runs strong through your veins. I feel a great destiny in your path, you will be the one to vanquish Ostia's scourge, and bring peace back to the land of Elibe.
Only three weeks later did news of Kraft's burning of Ostia reach Araphen. Valikae couldn't help but wonder how in the world he was going to take down an entire empire on his own? Granted he was a self-taught ace at the bow and a master hunter, but it would take more than finely-tuned survival skills to reverse the deeds of a whole army led by a false-prophet. He was going to need to find some help, and a mentor at the very least.
Walking through the streets of Araphen, he arrived at the stable he had left his horse Athos in. "Hey old buddy," he said stroking the top of the coal black horse he had traveled with for years. "We've got a long road a head of us, and there's so much mist in the way that I can't see where it leads, but I'm glad at the very least I have you by my side."
Athos snorted a response, which sounded like his way of saying, You weren't expecting to do this alone were you?
Valikae's spirits were lifted by his horse's support. "That's the spirit old chum," he said, lifting the saddle onto Athos' shoulders. He put his foot in the stirrup and swung himself onto the horse's back.
To Pherae, he thought to himself and then prodded Athos, and started riding south out of Araphen.
