OOC: This takes place some time after the last exchange between the two in Even Saints Can Die by the Sword.
IC: Rayl tossed and turned in his sleep. He was obviously in discomfort, feeling as if he had burst into flames. It was some time after this he woke up, and with a grunt sat up...
Guinevere was still there? He'd have been certain she'd have gone to rest. The look of pain on his face quickly changed to a forced smile as he spoke softly, throat dry," Guinevere...you should go get some rest yourself, it's been a pretty rough day...wouldn't you think?"

Guinevere had been sitting silently with Rayl the whole time he had been asleep. A few times she had gone to get a cool cloth for his head, but besides that she hadn't left his side. A couple of times she noticed him seemingly have a bad dream and tried to wake him up, but he won't. Finally, he sat up and noticed her. She gave her head a tired shake. "No, Sir Rayl. As tough a day it might have been, I can't rest knowing you may be in danger. Someone needs to keep watch over you and make sure you don't get too bad."

Rayl smiled at her sincerity, before, with a fair amount of difficulty, he put a hand on her shoulder," I can see you are tired, and knowing this plagues my mind greatly...if you do not go rest for your sake...please rest for mine, I hardly doubt I'll be able to sleep knowing you will not." this was wholeheartedly true: he was sure nothing too bad could happen as he slept, and Guinevere was obviously tired, he could see it it in her eyes...her clear blue eyes. For awhile he just stared at her, in the darkness and his blurred vision looking at the details of her face. It must have been an odd sight indeed, and it was hardly something conscious of his, but...
...ever since their little mishap earlier today, he had apparently been looking at her more closely on multiple occasions.

Gwen shook her head again, her hair shaking as she did. She smiled softly. "I'm wide awake, Sir Rayl. Please, go back to sleep. I bade you not worry about me, I'm not tired in the least bit." She gave a large yawn, quick she quickly tried to hide, but failed. "Please ignore that. I'm fine. You need your sleep and I'm more than happy to watch over you." She moved over to him, trying to get him to lay down. "Please, Sir Rayl"

Rayl however, would not be moved. Even in his illness he still had some strength,"...Guinevere, please...I don't like to see people sacrifice their welfare on my behalf..." he was referring to a lot of people really. From his trainer in Laus, Sir Rowen, an elderly knight who had put his job on the line for his sake...all the way to Crowley, who charged The Herald's elite troops to save him, Aeros, and the others...

Guinevere couldn't help but give a little smile. "I'll tell you what, Rayl." She was surprised to hear herself drop the 'sir', but quickly moved on. "If you lay down, I'll lay down too. That way we can both sleep and not have to worry about the other." She had to admit, she really was getting tired. That's when another great yawn overcame her. Resigning herself to this, she laid down next to him.

Rayl paused as she laid down. The situation went from strange to, well: highly awkward. he shifted a bit away from her, and began to look around," Guinevere, do you have a blanke-" it was roughly around this point he turned around to see the folded blanket, with a slight indentation from where his head been resting. He was touched really that she had done even that slight thing for him, before he took the folded cloth and held it out to the woman laying beside him, " You're going to need this."

Gwen smiled and took the blanket from him, as she knew trying to fight him on this would be a loss. She draped it over herself, putting her arm under her head to rest on. She looked over at Rayl, a smile playing at her lips. There was something about him being all concerned for her, even in his weakened state, that made him more interesting. "Thank you, Rayl..."

Looking back to her with a smile, he began thinking... and right when he was opening his mouth to say something, a young soldier walked into the tent," Sir Rayl, there are some p-" he stopped mid-sentence as he looked at the scene, thinking something quite opposite as to what was going on,"Uhhh.... I-I'll go bring the p-prisoners...s-somewhere." With this the boy dashed off, and Rayl suppressed some laughter with great difficulty: it truly must be an awkward sight...

Guinevere blushed slightly as the soldier ran out of the tent. She sat up, propping herself on her elbows. "Uh... Rayl...? Would you like me to leave?" She looked down, blushing. "I mean... if you have work to do, I don't wanna get in your way..." She had an uncertain look on her face, like she thought Rayl might rather she be in her own tent.

"Work?" The thought danced in his tired head. The soldiers didn't know he was ill, and it may have been better if he DID get up and help about, but surely they would understand if he would rest...after all even people such as himself weren't indestructible...this current situation proved it. Thus with a smile as he shifted a bit on the ground:
"That is up to you decide Guinevere...do as you will..."

Guinevere was silent for a few minutes before she finally spoke. "I... want to stay here. With you." She helped lie him back down and pulled his blanket up over him. "I think we could both use some sleep right about now." She gave him a little smile as she laid back down and pulled her own blanket over her. "Goodnight, Rayl"

Rayl returned her smile as she helped him back down. Despite the awkward situation and what he knew were her thoughts on him, he was actually glad she was there. Thus slowly resigning himself to slumber, he looked to the golden haired woman besides him as he shut his eyes," Pleasant dreams, Guinevere..." and thus with a yawn and a few minutes, he was again sleeping, though, for the time being, at peace.
