[Continued from Avenger]
Garnet had wandered for a couple days. He was alright on cash, and he figured the provisions he'd taken from the assassins he'd tussled with would last him for another few days (He hadn't even taken the chance to look inside really). He wasn't heading anyplace in particular, simply trying to avoid any possible pursuit, from the assassins, or the lawless dwellers of the town he'd left.
That was another thing that was on his mind. He'd just killed a criminal overlord of that town. From the things Garnet had heard, the man had been involved in all sorts of trades, many spanning beyond etrurian lands. Things truly had changed, if it took the sword of a former guard to exact retribution on the scum of the land. He wasn't truly sure how he felt about it all. Was that an acceptable action back there, or was the red-headed merc simply turning into a murderer?
He was coming up on a small village. Not even that, perhaps. There looked to be under eight houses. While the place was too small for a pub, there was an open-aired roofed patio where a few people were lounging about in the shade. The single wall, at the back of the structure held a rather large cook pot, blackened with age and use. There was a fire cooking at that moment, preparing whatever was in the pot for that afternoon's lunch.
If he wasn't mistaken, he'd stumbled on a humble farming settlement. It made him feel better, to see that people could still live in such a way, even if it seemed like the rest of the world was intent on killing everything.
"Is there shelter to be had, for a traveler in these parts?" He asked, as he approached the people.
"Not here, stranger, but on up the road a ways, there's a larger settlement. They've even got an inn there, for decent customers." The man who addressed him pointed up the dirt track. He didn't seem to know what to make of the red-haired swordsman.
Garnet was suddenly aware that his clothing, dark pants, a slightly frayed grey shirt and a tattered black vest he'd picked up, were not the most confidence inspiring of outfits. The merc shifted a bit, wondering if they thought him a crook.
"Well,... do they have a smith there?"
"They do, though I'm not sure he'll have anything you're interested in. Mostly we ship the farm tools for him to fix."
Well, perhaps he'd have better fortune there anyway, though part of him just wanted to stay and relax in the calm of this little place. "Thank you. I'll be on my way then."
He headed out, as the bored settlers watched him go. They were probably waiting on their stew, and then, after eating, they'd be right out to the fields, tending to the growth of their crops. It was a quiet life, sometimes peaceful, and other times demanding. Garnet left it behind him.

Further up along the road, the young woman sat on the side of the fence. She was outside of the settlement's boundaries, though she had visited not that long ago. her boots were off, and set to the side. While sitting upon the wooden fence post, she rubbed her ankle and bottom of the foot of the same leg. It had been a long journey, and without a horse, it was quite understandable why she would have sore feet...Setsuna didn't look much like the traveling type.
With a sigh, she pushed back a few strands of hair which went infront of her eye, and put her socks, and boots back on, but continued to rest for a moment longer. her eyes were so large, and bright as sh admired Eturia's perfect countryside, this was surely the Goddess' lands.
Every now and then, she would look inside of her tome, reading, and studying the Word, but then set to look down the road to see oncoming travelers, if any. In the past thirty or forty minutes, not a soul had been seen traveling the dirt road, until now. Jumping from the fence post, her shawl got caught in the splintered wood, and caught her, eliciting a small cry of frustration as she strung for a second.
Removing the fabric, she stood on the road, looking to the figure with red hair, and waves her arm up in the air as if to greet him. her face was kept complacent until the man would get within casual speaking range.
"Good day traveler, are you troubled? Do you have need of the Goddess' blessing?"

Garnet noticed a young woman, a blunette hopping off a fence by the road. She seemed eager, that was for sure. She didn't even let her garb catching on the fence slow her."Good day traveler, are you troubled? Do you have need of the Goddess' blessing?"
The traveling swordsman couldn't help but sigh inwardly as he heard this. Troubled? Yes. Elimine's blessing? I'm not so sure anymore. The merc had once been as devout as could be. He held to the principles of caring for those weaker than himself, at least. That was a major factor in his choice to continue being a guard, years ago, after some of the excitement had worn off. His faith had been shaken when he'd heard of the Prophet, and his zealots, but he'd managed to form a distinction between the Prophet, and the true followers of Elimine several weeks before.
He paused in the road, a few steps away, looking her up and down. She seemed young to be a traveling speaker. Garnet realized this line of conversation could easily turn to the Prophet's view of heresy, and that was an unwise stance to broadcast in Etruria. "I don't know." I only want to spare others my own pain, and.... His thoughts trailed off. He didn't truly know what he wanted. Perhaps he never had. "If it is still a true blessing, then yes. What are you doing out here?" He didn't speak harshly. Rather, he sounded curious of why she'd decided to come out to the road.

Setsuna looked to the troubled man a little...oddly. her facial expressions, but she was in a sort of wonderment. What kind of troubles might he be having, to have such a conflict on his conscience? Seeing him look her over, she gave a sort of blush, but tried to stand firm to his probing eyes. Those looks were so casual for those of the cloth these days.
"It will always be a blessing, for that is all it can be."
She smiled, and closed her eyes, holding up her tome, and reciting a quick few words she had memorized from the heart.
"The light be a upon you, son of Elimine, may her grace bless you and keep you."
Opening her eyes once more, she now decided to look him in the eyes again, her blush still there, but it was more a look of happiness, that she was able to preform this role. For a moment, she just stared, and then looked down the road, motioning with her hand.
"Well, since we seem to be heading in the same direction, let us talk, and walk, and share this beautiful day together."
Again motioning him to come with her, she began to briskly walk off in the direction of the town that would be not far.
"I'm actually traveling to broaden my horizons, and see all of the greatness this world has to offer...it's a rather humble explanation, but I felt it a requirement. What of yourself? You look so...tired, and sad.."

Garnet bowed his head, accepting a small bit of comfort from this girl and whispered an ending to what she'd said under his breath. "May She make her face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you."
He joined her, smiling at her ability to find beauty in the world around them, though there was always a trace of melancholy following him.
"Traveling to gain insight? It's a brave thing to do these days."
He absently rubbed the back of his neck as they walked down the street, towards the approaching town. "Myself? I suppose you could say I've come from a place where the greatness has been buried... atrophied. It's not really the sort of thing to be spoken of on a day like today. I just try and leave the people behind me with a better situation than when I arrived." May Elimine grant that I can stand in the face of all the suffering that I pass.
Despite having just met the girl, and how young she was, she'd provided the first real concern anyone had shown him in a long time. It felt good to meet someone who cared for passersby. "I go by the name, Garnet. What do they call you?"

"Brave, you say? I don't know if it's bravery..."
She trailed off for a moment, she had been muttering herself from then, and proceeded to listen to the mercenary, clutching her Lightning tome between her arms, and holding it against her stomach. Her head was half-bowed, but she was listening to him thought it may appear otherwise.
"Ah...torment of the past...well, to live, is to lose, they say, but those are hardly comforting words, I don't think I am able to speak any that may calm your heart."
her head perked up when her name was asked, and she grinned a little, her eyes slid to the side, violet circles searching the dirt road for the moment. it was strange that she did not answer, and she found it even more strange that she was hesitating, shaking her head, she looked up at him, and smiled warmly.
"Well, I am unsure what 'they' call me, but I know myself as Setsuna. Setsuna Ashbourne. It is a pleasure to meet you Garnet." With a small bow of her head, she gave him respect as he deserved for being polite, even if he was rude, she would do much the same, only a touch more grudgingly however.

"Yeah Garnet, it's a pleasure to meet you." Elias spouted up from beside the red headed man and the blue headed lady. She should of had red hair, so much better. They could of been a trio of red headed wanderers but she went and blue that. Hah, blew, blue... It's a pun. He should of said it out loud, Garnet would of laughed.
...
What? Where did he come from? Crimson Mage's Secret! Which he will tell you right now.
Walking walking walking walking. Elias is walking, his feet moved up and down autonomously, a goofy grin plastered on his already goofy face. There was a common man farming over there and doing farmer type things. He used to be a farmer on his neighbor's ranch. Or well, he was going to be, then he learned a ranch and a farm weren't the same thing. Long story short, don't try to plant horses, it doesn't end well. Anyways, he could totally do that if he wanted to. Just putting those tiny things in the ground and dump water on them, right? He should bury his fire tome, then he'd have a fire tome tree so he'd never run out of fiery justice. Or maybe a gold tree would be better. Would that tree have gold on it or be made of gold? Elias was hungry.
A smell entered his nose, and he followed it's impressive Crimson Tracking skills. He saw a little fire, psh, he could totally kick that fire up a notch. Last time he did that though he was banned from entering that house ever again and his parents had to pay for damages. But still, whatever they were making in that pot could be made a thousand times better with a little Crimson Chefery. Maybe ten thousand, he'd turn dirt stew into lobster! It'd be so delicious tha-
HOLY GOODNESS LOOK AT THAT GUYS HAIR!
It was so... red... Like Elias'. He needed to meet this man, they would be the Crimson duo. He was coming this way! Elias scrambled up a tree near the road and hid in the branches as he passed near. Suddenly someone with blue hair started to talk to him, and Elias eavesdropped with his Crimson ears.
"Good day traveler, are you troubled? Do you have need of the Goddess' blessing?"
Blah blah blah, church stuff.
"I go by the name, Garnet. What do they call you?"
Now! Elias noticed the two passed the tree a second ago, no one noticed him. He slipped off the branches easily and quietly, like a ninja. A Crimson Ninja. He walked up behind the two and that's how he got there.

Garnet bolted upright when he heard another's voice from beside him. When had this man gotten there. The surprise practically blew Setsuna's name out of his mind, though a piece of him held onto that piece of information.
"Dragon's Blood! Don't sneak up on me!" Garnet fumed from a half turned position, as they continued to walk up the lane.
The new comer held an obvious trait about him. It was abundantly clear from right off: This man absolutely loved red. Everything about him, screamed the bright color. Red hair; red shoes. Wonder of wonders! Even his hair was red!
Garnet's voice grew calmer as the surprise wore away "I... don't think I've seen anyone in as much red as you wear, before."

"Oh thank you, that means it's working." Of all his travels no one has ever commented on his sheer reditude, it was like Elias just received the complete best compliment that he had ever received that even calling him super awesome couldn't top even thought that was also true just like saying he wore a lot of red. He put on as much red as he could to stand out as much as he could so when he goes to do things people will remember the red as much as him so he'd be the crimson mage and not just some silly person who helps other people and doesn't get remembered as that would be lame. Why Red? Because, it's red.
"I am Elias, the Crimson Mage. I am also a master of stealth as you have just learned." He bowed to the other man with red. "I see you are also a felllow lover of Red, even your name is red. I'm actually jealous." Why couldn't his name mean red? Nooo it's just some silly normal name that is all blah and lame and stuff. If he was named Crimson, oh boy that would be so completely good. He put his hands to his hips with a wide smile. "I, the Crimson Mage Elias, will accompany you good citizen as you make your way to the city! It is my duty as a hero you see."

Though the mage appeared seemingly out of nowhere, Setsuna only partially raised her eyebrow at the red haired young man. She kept herself quiet for the time being, hugging her tome, and gave an almost sideways look towards the two as they shared a conversation about red, all things red, being red...even towards the man's name. It was...strange and short back and forth.
Shrugging her shoulders, she gave a small smile to the man, and bowed her head in respect to the mage, trying to be the best she could be as far as respect went.
"Greetings, Elias! it would be a pleasure to have you travel with us."

He's... Jealous of my name? certainly does seem active enough.
"Greetings, Elias! it would be a pleasure to have you travel with us."
Garnet looked over as Setsuna spoke up. Well at least he seems to have good intentions, what with proclaiming he's a hero and all.
"Yeah, come with us, Elias." He turned his speech to include Setsuna as well. "I'm planning on getting a meal over at the inn when we get into town. You're welcome to join me. I got plenty of cash right now.... My treat, for the company." His coin bag still felt fairly full from the payment in Laus. Payment to deliver some sort of message to a Crimelord. Of course once Garnet figured out he'd been tricked, he'd stayed away from the task, and then eventually it had led to the criminals death, and the whole mess he just escaped from.

Setsuna gave a warm smile to Garnet and tucked her book back beneath her arm, and interlinked her fingers. She was quite happy at the prospect of a free meal, it meant that her limited funds wouldn't be used this day! Giggling a little bit ecstatically, she continued on her way, a seemingly small bounce now in her step showed her mood quite plainly.
"I would love that! I haven't eaten since last night..."
Setsuna let a hand travel to her stomach, she could feel it stirring, and growling, but it wasn't audible for the rest to hear, that would be quite embarrassing indeed for the Acolyte of holy affairs.

"Woo, free food!" He pumped his fist in the air. He was still hungry from earlier, before he transformed into a ninja. He was a chef before, but now he'd be a gourmet. Not one of the snooty ones, those were lame with all their 'oh my I'm ever so hoity-toity, and I can't imagine eating such commoner food. Just look at it, it obviously is perfectly made. Too perfectly made. Send it back and mess it up slightly so I can send it back to be perfect and make sure to grate 5000 gold over it.' No, he'd be one of the cool gourmets who eats everything and thinks everything is delicious especially if it's red. Hopefully they had red food there, he didn't want to falter in presence of another rediteer whom would expell him from the red guild if he ate something green or brown, or even an off brand of salmon! No! He worked so hard to get his membership!
"Hi Sunny." He smiled as the blue haired girl person talked to him. She was sunny now, but her name sounds like "Sunny" setSUNa also because she was one of those church types. Sun is light, churches are light, IT WAS PERFECT. Elias should get a job naming babies, or renaming pets. So many people had lame names that he could totally change to better ones. Elias himself was no exception! Maybe he should start going by "Red" or "Scarlet" Oh oh! Crimson! Yeah... that would be awesome.
"Yeah the town's not too far away, I was headed there myself."

Oh... What am I getting myself into? Garnet thought to himself, as they headed into town. The truth was though, that it felt good to be around such enthusiastic people. He even perked up a bit himself.
Laughing at Elias' eagerness, the three of them, Garnet, Setsuna, and Red (that was easier than Elias and seemed to make sense from the man's clothing.) moved into the town. They passed the outer fringe of wood and stone construction houses, before coming to a fairly nice (compared to the scrap heaps Garnet usually stayed in), two story building. It had a long, recatangular common room, with the rooms for rent up top. The barn out back looked fairly full, but that wasn't a problem anymore. The Mercenary had sent his horse, Fable, with an old friend, to Lycia. He sighed idly. He missed the creature.
"It's been a while since I passed through anyplace that wasn't struggling to make ends meet. This is a good sight." He pushed the door open, and smelled some of the aromas of the kitchen wafting out. Yep... this is the place.
He went in, holding the door open behind him slightly longer than necessary, so it was open for the others.
"I could do with just about whatever they'll fix for us, but a nice, juicy steak would feel good just about now." Despite feeling fairly relaxed, he still glanced around alertly before selecting a table. He'd only escaped from the outlaw town a few days before. More over, he was on foot, and any pursuit, if they sent any, would likely be on horses. For all he knew, he could already be hunted.

Nathaniel came down the stairs with a smile on his face. He flipped a coin to the inn keeper smiling saying, "Thanks for the soft sheets." The inn keeper said, " I didn't rent you a room?" questionably.
Nathaniel winked mid grin and said, " Her husband did." He then walked over to a table with a bottle of liquor he had found. He was halfway through it when two large men burst through the door.
The monk raised his bottle and said, " Why hello there gentlemen here for another service?" tucking his lightning tome under his arm to conceal it. The larger smarter man said, " You claimed we shouldn't listen to St. Elimine. How dare you, your a holy man! Something about each person having a belief in themselves... what is that?!" Many other men in the inn stood up and backed up the large man.
Nathaniel smiled and said, " My good man I said you shoul only believe what you believe not simply what your told." The man growled and ran toward him. Nathaniel sidestepped and kneed him in the stomach.
He pulled out his tome and looked at the rest of the mob. He sighed inwardly thinking it was lucky he had painted a higher standard of his magic school when he had arrived earlier. He smiled his almost automatic smile and said, " May the next blind follower please step forward."
