Also known as Fighters for Freedom, Part 3.
This is the second book of the Cursed War series, written by the enigmatic "Historian" (BTW, it's James). With the death of Fighters for Freedom (Hopefully for good this time) I'll write out what I had in mind when thinking of the newest version of F3. Yes, I did start writing this before I remade F3, so there are some characters that don't match up obviously. It's not done, so if you want your own character in it, feel free to ask.
The first book, titled Cursed War: Days of Trial, is based on my old board, Days of Death. (Which is now the name of the third book, confusing, right?) The first book has been left unfinished on my livejournal, which most of you probably never heard me mention.
Days of Trial chronicles two wars that happened within two months of each other, the Zenathian War of Wind and Flame, and the Yericrom Unification War (F3 v. 2, which had Rowen and James and all that jazz). Days of Trial references many characters from each of these wars, but tries to make it clear as to who they are and what they did, with a quick summary of their exploits when introduced.
Some names were changed in the making of this book. Namely(PUN) the names belonging to certain Organization XIII members. Their names have been changed to what they might be without those stupid X's in their names.
I supposed a quick Summary of the wars would be good for those of you not in the know.
Zenath is comprised of five islands, Nighton in the West, Welgia in the South, The Tundra to the North, Falns to the East, and Delkt in the Center. The war began as a dispute between Nighton and Falns, neither side gaining an advantage because of the Scouring Blades. Weapons taking on the form of whatever their wielder was most efficient in. The holders of these blades could unleash extremely powerful attacks at the cost of a few years off their lifespan. Both armies held two of the five weapons, and sent their strongest to Delkt to search for the last one. The Minor Dragons of Delkt did not take too kindly to this, and called upon their god, of the same name as the island, to forcibly remove them. The Zenathians defeated Delkt thanks to two important things: 1. A group of time travelers from the future told them that this would happen, in order to prevent the horrible world they lived in from happening. 2. Delkt had lost half of his power to the Dark Hunter.
In Relinge, 100 years prior, A grand battle occured between Prince Rayl's army and the demons of the Dark Dragon Salzar. At the climax of said battle, the Dark Hunter, an assassin in debt to Rayl, dealt what he believed was the final blow after seeing his friend, Jones, killed. With Salzar gone, the portal to the Demon Realm began to close, and the Dark Hunter was the only one remaining inside when it did close. What Dark Hunter didn't know, was that Salzar had given him the power meant for Delkt at the last moment, after sensing something was wrong.
During the Yericrom Unification War, the rift to the Demon Realm was reopened when Salzar was resurrected by descendants of his followers. What seemed to be the same thing from 100 years ago was happening yet again. Dark Hunter found a rift and returned to the World, unwillingly leading the kids who would help defeat the demon that had possessed Salzar.
Now we open the scene with something completely different.
(It's written from the Historian's PoV, leading to many conclusions on his part, and some possible misconceptions. This is all part of the story-telling, and not my personal notes.)
Dear friends, it has been a while since I last wrote to you all, almost twenty years, in fact. It does take a while to write an accurate historical document when I was not present at most of these events. Some people refused to talk, some had forgotten, and of course, some have died. However, I, the Historian, am not writing for fame or honor, we must know our past so that we do not make the mistake of repeating it. These days I write to you about, from the events of ten years ago, surely they were days of deception.
William Geng and his brother, Robert, were convicts in Nighton's highest security prison, the Sky Tower. They were taken in almost ten years ago, (I'll write in reference to the years of the events, not this year), when the Sky Tower was only known as the tallest building in Zenath. Grip, that is, William's thief name, was suffering another bland day of doing nothing. Suddenly, the earth quaked, the alarms sounded. "Eh?" Grip looked up, the cell doors were opened while the defcon sounded in the distance. "Did that quake open the doors? Whatever, now's my chance to get out of here." He ran out of the cell and looked around, there must've been thirty cells on that floor, all of them were empty. "Did everyone else already make their escape?" He saw light shining through a barred window at the end of the hall, and he slowly made his way to it. His eyes drifted down through the sky, but he couldn't see anything but the clouds. "Just how high am I in this tower?" Grip randomly decided to look up, at the top of the tower. It wasn't too far, maybe ten floors. "Near the top? I overheard from the guards that there was something important up there, maybe I should go up..." Grip ran up the nearby staircase, with the alarm slowly fading away. Unfortunately, however, his floor was the only one that was empty.
"Hey! Get back to your cell!" A single guard was on this floor, as if the alarm had never happened. Before the guard could react, Grip used his years of training for thievery to his advantage, swiftly pressing his fist hard into his opponent's gut, knocking the man unconscious.
"Grip? Is that you?" Came a voice from a nearby cell.
"Klack? Hold on." Grip took the guard's keys and unlocked his brother's cell. Robert Geng, whose thief name was Klack. Together they were the Geng Brothers, once feared thieves of Zenath.
