Karina stood perfectly still, letting the tall grass brush against her exposed body. She sat in the dirt, tunic-less, as she used to during her years of solitude. She reflected on the past few days, on her journey so far, and what she still had to do. When the sun was low on the horizon, she got up and put on her cloak. She walked back to camp, picking up her clothes from a rock by the stream she had washed them in.
She stroked Sascha's mane when the pegasus greeted her upon her return. Spirit came over too, and she did likewise to the steed. "It is a beautiful evening, isn't it, Chelsea?" she walked over to her dearest friend and gave her a full-bodied hug. "I'm feel so alive on days like this. Shall I make us dinner?"

Chelsea was laying on her back, her eyes closed as the sun washed over her. She had taken off the top layer and was now laying in her bra and underwear, once again tanning the skin that had slowly been getting more and more pale. It felt nice just to be able to relax at the end of a long day of riding. The feel of grass on her back and legs felt just like she remembered. Her thoughts drifted to Kelvin and whether or not her letter had reached him yet.
She was snapped out of her daydreams when she heard footsteps, signaling Karina's return. She slipped her shirt back on and smiled up at her friend. "It is beautiful, but you're still more beautiful," she responded, giggling. "And yes, dinner would be wonderful."

Karina smiled at Chelsea's comment. Maybe she was being cute, but Karina felt honored. She built a tiny tent of wood and started a fire. About a half hour later, she was able to boil a collapsible cauldron over it. She deftly cut up some meat from a gazelle they killed earlier that day. She let that stew for a while, then added a few vegetables in to the mix.
"I isn't much, but it is something to chew on," Karina said as she handed Chelsea a bowl of soup. "It will fell good later tonight. I have a feeling it will turn rather cold. We are nearing Ilia, after all. I hope it is not that bad." She paused to take a sip, then smiled. "Ha, what do you know, it's pretty good! And teacher said I would never make a decent meal!" Karina took a few more sips, then looked at the sky.
The stars were always so bright on plains, as opposed to the cities she was used to living in. It reminded her of her nights as a child, wondering what that great ball in the sky was.

Chelsea smiled up at Karina as she took the bowl of soup. "I'm sure it'll be great," she said, taking a sip and finding that it was indeed great. She sat her bowl down and did up her shirt. If Karina was right about it getting colder, then she really should re-cloth. She slipped her pants back on before returning to her soup. It really was quite good. Better than anything she could cook. She was quiet for a little while as she drained her bowl.
When she finished, she moved over next to Karina, tilting her head back and looking up at the stars. "They're beautiful out here, aren't they?"

Karina sighed contently and said, "yes, they are," she held her hand out above her, as though if grabbing a handful of stars was possible. "I can remember there being a lot of stars in the village I grew up in. And then, when I went to the city, the lights, they were always on, and the stars were hardly visible. Seeing them makes me want to remember more about my younger days... I could lie out here forever, tracing the paths of the stars, watching for falling ones." she sat up and took a few more sips of her dinner. With one final, long, gulp, she drained the remaining liquid.
"I never learned their names. The stars, I mean. Sometimes I make up my own in my head," she added, resuming her vigil.

Chelsea smiled softly up at the stars. "My brother and I used to do that as well." She scanned the sky for a few minutes, looking for certain ones. "We used to make our own shapes and stories in them, too. Like, there..." she held up a finger and seemed to trace the air, "that is Torinith, the nobel steed. He was the horse of..." she started tracing again, "of Leona, the brave plainswoman." She giggled. "My brother always wanted it to be a brave plainsman, but I wouldn't let him." She sighed sadly, he hand slowly dropping to her side. She missed him, lots. Sometimes, she'd give anything to have him back.

Karina yawned and looked back at the camp. "I... I can't remember any of them." She stood up, her brow furrowed. She paced around the camp, looking both worried and a little hurt.
"I hope my brother will remember me. I can hardly remember him as we speak, and he, well, he has probably had a lifetime of hardships to deal with. He probably gave me up for dead the moment he saw our house. I lived there, in the ruins of the town, for years, no one to talk to but myself, and I still could not remember him until this past year." She sat down by her bed-cloak. "I need to rest... I'm sorry."

Chelsea looked over at Karina as she talked. She felt for her, she really did. She had basically been in her position before. When she sat down, she moved over to her and gave her a hug. "It'll be ok, Karina..." There were other things that she wanted to say, but figured they were best unsaid right now. For the time being, she just kept hugging her best friend tight, trying to convey those emotions with it.

Karina awoke before Chelsea, as well as the sun. She saddled Sascha and spent the remainder of the time watching the sun rise, stroking her pegasi's mane. "You know, Sascha, I have never really been good at talking to people. You must guard your emotions, choose your words wisely, and position your body to convey how you feel. I am terrible at it. A always change the conversation tone at the drop of a coin, I never say the right thing, and I am terrible at standing still."
She put on an overcoat and fed Sascha some hay. "Sometimes I think I would be better back at the village, with the animals. But I have to try. I must keep learning, for those who are near to me. We will be almost in Ilia by the end of the day. I know you are wanting to fly, but We cannot outstrip Chels. You should get it out of your system now, fly! Fly, Sascha, and come back at my call."
Karina watched as Sascha took off and soared through the sky, glancing at the rising sun at the same time. She smiled, feeling a kind of inner peace in the natural noises of the dawn.

Chelsea woke silently and gave a large stretch. Wiping the sleep from her eyes, she looked around and noticed Karina wasn't beside her anymore. Looking around, she spotted her friend a little ways off, watching her pegasus flying around. She also spotted Spirit laying near by. Moving to her horse, she stroke her mane softly at she chew some grass. "Morning, you," she whispered, before looking back to Karine. She quietly walked over to her and slipped her arms around her waist from behind. "Good morning."

Karina smiled and placed her hands around Chelsea's. "Good morning. It is truly a beautiful day. I never really took the time to look at the scenery around me when I traveled, I always wanted to get to my destination as fast as possible.Maybe I should slow down and take to look now and then." she turned around and kissed Chelsea lightly, not wanting the moment to end. "But I am afraid that we may not have such time now. I need to get to Edessa and see my old teacher quickly, for he was old when I left, and we will be lucky if he is still in this world. After which, for who knows how long our search might take, we can see all the sights that our travels take us. The ice floes in the northern lakes, the great glacier in the mountains, the barren, but enchanting tundra... I do miss my home country. It is a harsh land, but a beautiful one. So, shall we pack up camp?"

He... he was lost. He was lost wasn't he? Oh damn it, friggen plains. Why are you so plain? So instead he just continued walking, an act that sounded profound and full of wisdom but was really really boring. He rubbed a hand through his hair, finally out of his eyes for all of eternity, he had forgotten how useful having both eyes functional could be. It kept him from running into things, like buildings. Who puts a parlor in the middle of Sacae? Well atleast he was able to buy a new outfit there, it seemed that all that blacksmithing was finally paying off. Or, rather, making him have to pay. Which is similar, but left his wallet sad and empty. His old outfit didn't really fit anymore, it was tight in many places and incredibly uncomfortable. The scarf was something he got on a whim, remember just how frigid Ilia was, and never wanting to experience that again.
So he looked around, for signs of life, or anything that isn't plains in the least. What he FOUND was a camp. A small one, maybe one or two people max. And a horse, odd, it was pure white. He couldn't make out many details this far away though. He began to draw near, curious at who would be out here in the middle of nowhere, knowing that there was a very real possibility he'd be attacked. That's all that ever seemed to happen to him in Sacae. That or run into Chelsea. But he knew THAT was never going to happen again.

Karina was packing up her clothes when she couldn't help but noticed a figure in the distance. She scanned the plains for signs of others, but the figure seemed to be alone. He wore a rather bright orange scarf, giving him away as anything BUT an assassin. Karina didn't know of many assassins out to get her, anyway. Who would be hunting a lonely girl trying to find her brother? She called over to Chelsea, who was packing up the tent. She said the figure looked familiar, but she couldn't tell who he was from this distance.
Karina decided it would be best to investigate the traveler's intent before he got to the camp. She grabbed her lance, made sure she remembered to lace up her short dress, and gave Sascha a pat on the head as she passed. Pushing a bit of tall grass out of her way, she got closer to the traveler. "Good morning," she called, "I am Karina, of Ilia, and the trooper over there is Chelsea Dagger. May we e of help to you in any way?"

"Good day, didn't think I'd see anyone out here." He smiled warmly, she had a lance in hand, but he didn't take any offence. He had a sword in his hand as well, so it was like even. It's how Sacaen's greeted each other or something. He looked at the girl, she had dark green hair covering one her eyes and a short laced up dress. Not exactly traveling attire, but he supposed that didn't really matter. She didn't look particularly sacaen, then again he didn't know much about sacaens outside the fact that lots of people thought he was one. He's never seen a tan sacaen before, so it was a bit confusing, but livable. Maybe she was one? Maybe she wasn't? Far be it for him to judge, oh wait that's a spear. Nope, nevermind, she wasn't. Sacaens seemed married to their swords. Oh, ow, the hypocrisy hurted.
"I'm Valcrist, nice to meet you KariDID YOU SAY CHELSEA?" OH HELL OH HELL. WHATEVER DIETY HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE IN DAMN IT ALL. Run boy run! It was all his fault, he joked that he'd never meet her again a second ago. A jest really, but why!? He didn't hate her, in fact he still really liked her, THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. He didn't know if he could see her again, not now not like thiiiis.

Karina was checking out Valcrist, as he was doing to her. She was never good at seeing social ques, but she did have an eye for when people were eyeing her. She must look out of place in Sacae, what with her ever-pale Ilian skin and pegasus in two. She was honestly surprised she hadn't been stopped before. She knew Ilia was something of a concern to people of Sacae, being that they were subjugating their neighbors.
Karina could not help but laugh as Valcrist freaked out when she mentioned Chelsea's name. Perhaps another one of her lovers? She offered him her hand and said, "I'm sorry if I alarmed you. I can lead you to the camp, if you'd like."
