He was almost shaking, not in fear. Ok maybe a little. Or a lot. Rather he was nervous, and also terrified, but most nervous he thinks. "Nooo no no no. I'm, I'm fine." He rapidly waved his hands in front of him, warding her away for the moment. "Sorry about that. I just, well, I..." He slunk forward, looking out the corner of his eye and never at the girl. "I... know Chelsea. Well, talking to her now would be..." He brought his hand to his neck and began to rub it, wringing it out basically. "Really really embarrassing. If you understand." He tried to laugh, but it sounded like some kind of dead animal so he quickly shut his mouth.
"Erm, I'm Valcrist. Valcrist Terris." He straightened his back, but looked as nervous as ever. "Um, you know that bow she has? The really reeeeaaaally detailed one with like a bunch of work put into it? I made that, I'm a blacksmith. We used to be friends... but.... we parted on some..." He slunk forwards again. "Embarrassing terms."

Karina gave Valcrist a concerned look. She wasn't exactly sure how to comfort him, though she knew she should. She jerkily put her hand on his shoulder and said, "I'm sure she can't wait to see you again. She is a very kind girl, that Chelsea. She has a lot of love and warmth to share. But... I can understand if you do not what to see her. You must be very timid, or rather, scorned by her, to not want to see her..." There she was again, wondering aloud. That's what got her in those awkward situations with Rayl, after all.
"So, shall I get her, or should we... well, to be honest, I need to be getting to Ilia, and I am not sure if it would be best of me to take her with me. We have... Some confusing things to work out." Karina smiled, trying to get the swordsman to come with her.

"Timid I'll take, I wasn't really scorned though..." He muttered, looking away. "It's my fault, she was, well, in a relationship. Kelvin wants to marry her, but... I still couldn't help it. She was nice to me, she was... well... It doesn't really matter. Not now, at least." Why was he telling a complete stranger who likely didn't care. Ugh, he sighed heavily slumping his shoulders down. "None of that love is for me, I assure you. She made that clear." He gave a laugh of self-pity, and self depreciation. It was funny in it's own way. So much has happened to him, yet about Chelsea he was still a pathetic little child.
"I don't think I should see her. Not now, atleast. I can't be around her again, I've already said my goodbyes." Suddenly his mind turned back on and he realized some of the words she had said in kind. "Wait, you're headed to Ilia? I just came from Ilia, it's that direction." He pointed in the distance, he's had the cardinal directions memorized by heart by now. "The real issue is there's no landmarks or anything, so it's really hard to navigate." He added with a shrug. "I know how confusing things can get with that girl."

Karina looked down at the grass. It was so simple for plants, the just... were. Karina didn't know how the reproduced, but they did, somehow. They didn't need to talk and dance around each other, trying to impress one another. She envied them, the plants. "Kelvin. She belongs with him, doesn't she? I, I don't know why I am telling this to a stranger, but we kissed, Chelsea and I. I think she should be with him, though. I think I will tell her that I must go... I hope she doesn't hate me fore it. She is the first friend I made. My first best friend." She gave Valcrist a quick, half-hearted smile and dashed away to camp.
Karina and Chelsea's goodbye was long, and hard for the both of them. There was some crying, a lot of talking, and a kiss. Then that was that. Chelsea went off to find Kelvin, and Karina headed back to where she left Valcrist, her bag and Sascha with her.
Her face was still streaked with drying tears as she said, "Alright. I'm going to Ilia. Want to come?"

It... they kissed? Of course... Of... Of course. Why wouldn't... Why wouldn't they? It wasn't like Valcrist wasn't just unloved because she had no more love to give, no, it was him after all. She just didn't love him. She never did, she never will. Somewhere, deep in the back of his mind he thought that maybe, maybe if he had gotten there first. Before Kelvin, just maybe things would of been different. He could of been with her, she would of love him. That the only reason that it never worked out was simply that it was too late, that she had no more room, that she was simply full to burst with her love to Kelvin that made it so no one else could ever even come into the picture.
That was a lie, if he had gotten there a million years before, if Kelvin never even existed it would of been no different. You see, she never loved him. And she never never would. Never like he did, in a thousand lives in a thousand worlds, it would never had worked. She simply would never care. Why... Wasn't he... Why wasn't he good enough? Why could he never compare? Why did he mean so little to her? And why was he crying?
He brought a hand up to his face, his body wracked with silent tears, his sword slipped from his head as he fell to his knees. So it was him, all along. And why wouldn't it be? Look at him, he was pathetic, crying over such a frivolous thing. Barely a man, barely anything.
She eventually came back, after he had tried to dry his tears. After he had tried to eliminate any proof he acted like a child, no a baby. It didn't work, his eyes were bloodshot and he had to bite his lip to prevent his self from crying again after he saw her again. "S-sure..." he looked away, unable to even look her in the eye. "Anywhere but here."

Karina's forced smile fell when she saw Valcrist. She thought she saw something, as she had walked over. Him on the ground, perhaps? It seemed to Karina that Chelsea left a trail behind her, in the form of broken people and shattered hearts. It was not her fault, Karina knew... She was just so kind, and so very pretty.
Karina reached out and turned Valcrist's face to hers. "Do not despair. Chelsea, for her charm, looks, and kindness, is but a single woman. There are so very many out there, some may be like her, even. Do not think the world to be over because she does not love you. Now come, if you think you are able. I... I am used to being alone, but I do like company."

"I'm.. I'm fine. Don't worry. I know, I've moved on." He had, he had put it behind him. He had lived his life until this moment just fine, it was... It was just... "I just kinda bottled it up, this just made that bottle break, I suppose." He chuckled, not smiling though, a sort of sad laugh. Kinda like those creepy clowns you see in some traveling caravans.
"I've moved on, I just didn't do it very healthily. I ignored it, and the truth until now." He wiped his face, his words signifigantly more poised and articulate, then again a beast's guttural growls would be articulate compared to the babble earlier. "The world isn't over, even if I'm just a bit bitter. I just suppose... I really needed to cry. Haven't you ever felt that way? I mean, I know it's not flattering, being such a macho man as I, but... Everyone needs to cry sometimes..." He felt a little... relieved actually. Like a poison he never even knew was destroying him from the inside had passed forever, leaving him fresh and clean.
"I just think... The faster we leave, the better I'll be." He nodded with a small smile. "But, for the time being, I think I'm done with women." He added with a small laugh.

"Perhaps we should both do that, ahahah!" Karina let out a small peal of laughter at her own jest. She didn't know how, but she hoped to someday see Chelsea again. No matter what happened, they were best friends, after all. But there were so many things to do now. A brother to find, and a new comrade to get to know.
"So, Ilia. Cold and bitter, frosty and beautiful. How I long to sing songs of the glaciers and storms. So harsh, yet so strong. You know, Ilia's rough, natural vistas have inspired many a bard. Though I am no singer or bard by trade, I have found that I enjoy singing, sometimes even more than talking!" She grabbed a cloak from her bag and wrapped it around herself. "Ilian cloaks were made special to provide enough material to wrap over both the miniskirt and the armor of a pegasus knight, you know." Karina said "A worthless bit of fact, but fun either way. So, will you ride Sascha with me? She is a good filly, and does not mind men as much as the next pegasus.

"Ilia, bitter and cold yes. Beautiful too, I'll give you that. Wanting to sing songs about it? I'm afraid you lost me there." He shrugged, remembering his trip into the icy wastes. "I remember being cold. Being very very cold. Almost freezing to death really, I prefer Nabata. The heat's not too bad when you get used to it. It's beautiful in it's own ways too. Kinda like Ilia in the same way, what with it's icy and snowy wastes. It reminded me more of home then I feel a bit comfortable admitting, though... I may simply have been homesick." He replied, crossing his arms, his head clearing a bit and beginning to feel a bit more level-headed.
"You'll have to excuse me if I don't join along in your singing, unless you wish for the undead to rise from their graves and try to tell us they're trying to sleep." He chuckled. He had a talent for the visual, the spoken word and aural? Not so much. "I have always wondered how pegasus knights survived in such.... attire." Hrm, not a single good adjective that didn't sound perverted. Drat.
"I... Never rode a pegasus. Don't they hate men? I remember reading that once. I've seen one before, this girl I knew named Clair had one, it surprised me. Much bigger in person." He eyed the horses warily. "Um... I would probably... prefer walking. If you don't mind." He smiled, a bit nervously. He didn't really feel comfortable riding upon a flying horse in which he could easily fall off and die when pegasi hate men and he barely knew the woman.

Karina lead Valcrist to Sascha and placed his hand on her flank. "Pegasi usually do not associate with men, but when introduced to an ally by their rider, they can tolerate, and even learn to be friends with, the manliest of men."
Karina patted Sascha, crooning to the pegasus. After a few minutes of this, The pegasus seemed to calm down. "Anyway, We'll fly high up, circling ahead to scout. Just to make sure we don't run in to any trouble. Sascha is very good at spotting foes." Karina smiled at Valcrist and swept herself up on to Sascha's back. "I'll land when the sun starts to set. See you then!!!" And with that, Karina and Sascha off into the air.
Sascha lead her rider on thermals, taking care to avoid any downdrafts. She smiled in her horsey way, glad that the flying above the plains was so easy. It was a great day, with hardly any wind. The pegasus nickered in happiness and lead Karina through clouds and past hills, making a wide, guarding circle around the swordmaster. Karina told her that this man was their friend, and she trusted her rider, the woman who raised her, with her life.

"The manliest of men you say? Let's hope you're right, my masculinity has been known to make women grow beards just being in the same room." He touched the horse, a bit nervous. Then there was little this man did that could be described as anything but nervous or awkward. With little room to argue, or to reply with anything but a startled "guh" off into the air she rose. Or sprinted, or flew or whatever Pegasus did to kick off the ground. Jump? That sounded silly.
So she... jumpflewsprintedrose in the air and began to circle him. To most people it might of a been a warming gesture of "I'm looking out for you." but to Val it reminded him a bit too closely of a vulture circling his prey before coming in when it was already dead. He stood for a moment, crossing his arms with a jagged looking face. Not smiling, not frowning, but rather looking in thought. "Is it too late to run away?" He asked the air, and all of a sudden nothing happened.

Chelsea had watched as Karina left. She had also seen who she had met up with. Sure, he had been far away from their camp, but she was an archer. She knew Val had been there. And he hadn't wanted to see her. And how quickly Karina had changed her mind about wanting Chelsea to go with her. It was too much to handle. She pulled out Val's bow, the one he had made for it, and shot an arrow from it towards where they stood. They never even noticed.
She looked back down at the bow, it's intricate carvings, beautiful designs. She couldn't stand to look at it anymore. She threw it to the ground and jumps on Spirit. She left most of the camp where it stood, only taking her father's bows and a few choice other things. She left Val's bow in the grass. They were supposed to be friends, and now he couldn't even come within 100 feet of her. Karina, too, seemingly didn't want to be around her anymore either. Sure, that's not what she had said in their goodbye, but Chelsea knew enough to know that she had left things unsaid. As she rode away on Spirit, she was flooded with emotions. Sadness. Anger. Fear. Confusion. People said they cared about her, only to leave her alone time after time. Karina suggested she go find Kelvin. But how long until he too grew tired of her presence and left her by herself? That's when something inside her snapped. The tears flowing down her face suddenly stopped. Her jaw became steady, her eyes hardened. She wasn't sad anymore. Nor, was she feeling any other emotions. She just rode on, silently, as if only existing and completely uninterested in anything around her. Her people had a saying for people whom undergo such a process.
Chelsea had just died inside.

Sascha kicked the air, propeller herself and her rider further up. After doing this for a minute or two, she glided downward, her wings outstretched. The pegasus could smell Chelsea's horse galloping away. She had liked Spirit. truth be told, Sascha was a bit upset with Karina for leaving them for some random boy. She had half a mind to do a barrel roll, even. That would let her rider knew she was being a dummy.
Karina, though in tune to animals more than humans, had no idea what was running through Sascha's mind. She smiled lightly, trying to ignore her sadness from leaving Chelsea. The Sacaen had her own lover, so Karina would find one for herself as well. Maybe one day they could go on dates together. Chelsea, Kelvin, Karina, and Karina's partner. Karina dozed off in the saddle, dreaming of such a dinner.

He caught out of the corner of his eye, a moving target. Looked like a horse, one that he recognized. It was Chelseas, the whole situation just left him with a bad taste in his mouth. She probably hated him, and he couldn't blame her, he hated him too. So, with a sigh that was so heavy that he felt a bit breathless afterwards, he shrugged his shoulders. There was little he could do now. To be quite honest, he didn't even want to head to Ilia, like the person he said he would head that way with wanted. He just LEFT Ilia, and the Ilian army. In fact going that way might simply cause more trouble, not the good kind either. Where he wanted to go was probably Bern or Lycia, but now he was wrapped up in another fine mess.
He decided to take a moment to sit on the ground, crossing his legs and pulling out his sword. A sword that was easily on it's last legs, nicked and broken in many parts, scratched and chipped. No longer the beautiful weapon it once was. He couldn't push it anymore, it would just simply break. Maybe he could flag the rider down and say "oh sorry I don't really want to go to Ilia" since he really only agreed in the drama of the moment. He said anywhere but here, but didn't really think it through in the lightest. Maybe he could convince her to come to Bern? Or maybe...
Ugh, it wouldn't hurt to accompany her across Sacae at the least. He'll be a guide, she'll be fine in Ilia alone. He'd have to tell her later when she stopped being a vulture.
