(Takes place on the boat in Modes of Transportation)
[white]"Hey Rabbit..."[/white] Dee approached the oddly-eared lady she had gotten into a habit of calling Rabbit recently. [white]"What's up with your ears?"[/white] she asked. It was the reason she had started calling her Rabbit in the first place after all.
Dee had started calling the others by nicknames that were easy to understand, but it took her awhile to figure out a name for Rabbit. She hoped that Rabbit wouldn't take it as making fun of her ears, the nickname really did fit the young lady, with her agility and hopping on Jumbo and stuff.

Sitting on a one of the many crates Mel turned and stared over her shoulder at Dee her blue eyes narrowing. What was the child doing here now? Why didn't she just go...go...go do whatever children did. "Rabbit?" she asked slightly confused as to whom the young brunette was speaking to and looked around for anyone else. Of course there was no one and the shrimp was bugging her. So she scowled turning to Dee "what about them?" she grumbled her hands reaching up to touch the tips of her pointed ears.

Surely Rabbit realized why Dee was asking, right? [white]"They're pointy! How did you get them pointy like that?"[/white] She hopped up and down in front of the young lady, now eager for an answer.
[white]"I've read a lot of books, but I haven't ever heard of anybody with ears like that."[/white] At least, nothing that is actually in the real world. There's a lot of fiction to be found in books. she thought to herself.

"How? I......" the lass trailed off thinking for a few moments. There were so many bogus tales she had created for this very question and yet there was the dilemma of which to chose.
Well went I was a child my parents pulled my ears often, so often that they grew into these." She rested her head on her hand watching the child seeing if she would take it.

[white]"No way, that's awful..."[/white] Dee's mouth was agape in horror. Rabbit must have gone through plenty of struggles just because her parents had done that. [white]"What kind of parents would do that?"[/white]
Mine wouldn't have done something like that, would they? She cast her face downward, her perky self now saddened.

A slight smirk graced the lass's lips as she stared down at the now temporarily silenced child. It was amusing really that one could be so naive and easily swayed.
"Hmm..." Mel leaned back for a moment glancing up at the sky "It wasn't too bad, my father had a nose like a hog, smelled like one too mind you. He was always in a drunken rage and one day he tripped and fell on an axe. That was the end of that"

[white]"How awful... and you don't miss him at all?"[/white] Dee asked, tears just beginning to form in her eyes. [white]"If I had known my dad, and he was a drunk, I think that I would still love him anyways. You only get one family, you know?"[/white]
She looked down at the floor, not wanting Rabbit to see her tears. [white]"Do you still have a mother?"[/white]

Mel sighed watching Dee begin to cry not knowing how to deal with such thing like tears though happy Dee tried to hide it. People crying always made her feel slightly odd inside, no matter what was said they always cried more and more "Did you actually believe that?" she asked slightly bemused, hopefully the child would stop its tears soon enough so she could relax.

[white]"Wait... you mean that you were lying?"[/white] This new turn of events just made her cry even more. Between sobs she coughed out, [white]"You're just lying to make fun of me, the orphan. How can you be so cruel, Rabbit...?"[/white] She was attempting to keep her sobs under control so that Jumbo wouldn't get angry at Rabbit again. There was enough conflict in the group with Blueberry around as it was.

Mel looked at her with confusion her head tilted slightly to the side not knowing what to say now to calm her down. Sticking her hand into her bag she rifled around pulling out a small bundle and holding it out to her looking more relieved now that she had something to battle the tears with. "You can have this if you stop crying alright?!" she grumbled exasperated "its a sweet, or something like that, I was curious so I snatched it but you can have it if you stop that."
"Though it was not completely a lie, it could be true all the same..." she trailed off her eyes unfocused as her mind drifted elsewhere.

Dee's tears and sobbing slowly stopped up as she saw the candy offering. [white]"Thanks, Rabbit.."[/white] she coughed out, grabbing the bundle slowly, eyes still red from crying. As she opened it, a small taffy fell onto her palm.
Dee grunted, pulling the candy apart. [white]"Here Rabbit. You can have half of it..."[/white] she handed one part back to Rabbit and popped the other in her mouth. She couldn't afford candy on her own, so this was definitely a treat.

Mel took the candy ad stared at it curiously before popping it into her mouth. It was oddly sweet but not horridly so it was inedible. Tense she reached out a hand and patted the child's head like one would a dog happy she had stopped crying finally after that.
Sighing she lay back and closed her eyes "don't cry so much" she grumbled
