The tribe Selibas had spent the night with the night before was fairly kind. They were Fruchili, and lived life differently than the rest of Sacae. They stayed in one place and their proximity to Illia was enough for them to dress heavily, and wear armor in battle. Well, they weren't the only tribe like this. That big man Tirion lived similar to these people. The chief expressed interest in a united Sacae, but Selibas decided not to pester him, as his plans were on hold. On hold forever most likely. Selibas awoke to a factastic smell of deer being roasted, and a thousand beads of dew on a thousand blades of grass. As he stepped out of his geust ger, the beauty prsented to his nose was obstructed. Obstructed by blood.
The man was barely alive. He had two companions, one a mage, and one an axe fighter. There was a lance left on a horse Selibas had never before noticed, and he supposed that belonged to the bleeding man. He moved to where the two companions were guiding him, towards the Chiefs tent. The thing was, whatever their need, the Chief was leaving to go to the Lorca Camp that was always a few miles away this time of year. He'd already sent an envoy, and he was expected. If he wanted to help them with whatever they needed, it'd be indirect. Selibas was allowed entrance to the tent after the wonded man and the other two were permitted entrance. They'd already explained how their mercenary group had been staying in an abandoned fort, and that they were the only survivors for a large bandit attack. A bandit force big enough to put up a fight against the tribe. The tribe was about seventy warriors strong, but many would be with the Lorca Chief treating. The bandit Leader seemed to have planned this all quite well. The Chief asked how many men the bandits had, about fourty. Would they accept help in routing them? Yes. Would his blood-brother Marjuin be able to make final decisions for any Sacaen men? Yes. They would have Fourty-five men.
Then Selibas spoke up, "I'd like to accompany the force to defeat the bandits." The chief had no problem, neiter did the Illians.

Selibas trudged at the head of the small force through the dark tunnel. The night before, the two Mercenaries had told the Sacaen warriors of a passage through the cellar to a tunnel, which Selibas had thought wise to take ten men to backtrack the previous escape route, making it an assault route. Selibas saw a sliver of light up ahead, and began to finger the hilt of Caladbolg. As the sliver became a beam, his hand changed to Epeeciel, not quite sure why. In the faint light of the Illian mage's palm, Selibas' sudden stillness became known to all ten Sacaens. He turned and said, "Which of you is the best with his bow?"All the other Sacaens turned to one man, who was almost as short as Selibas. The man unslung his bow and said in a gruff voice, "What'd you have in mind?"
Selibas said, "Stay close behind me, when I duck and you see a man, shoot him. The rest of you stay as quiet as you can." Selibas began walking, and slowly unsheathed the great blade, and rested his left hand on the bottom of his hilt, with his right hand on top. He crept forward, seeing no one around the corner. He slowly made his way up a flight of steps. He heard voices, and looked around the corner, and saw two men. He waited for the blonde archer to come around the corner behind him. He yelled the first word to come to mind, "LIGHT!" The two men turned around, the one on the right yelling, "Who's there?!" Selibas had already ducked, and an arrow flew through the open mouth of the right bandit. Selibas was already running, the left bandit choosing to try to kill the men instead of shouting for help.
He tried to swing down at Selibas, but Selibas swung up, blocking the blow then pushing the man's sword away. He finished shoving off, then brought his sword down against the mans elbow. The man screamed, and Selibas kicked the enemy in the knee, bringing him to the ground. Selibas hit the man, who had already lost hope, with a hay maker to the jaw. He placed his right hand back on the hilt, then brought the sword up, "I'm sorry." He brought the blade crashing down, hoping to give the man a painless death. Sadly, he did not make it all the way through his neck, but he quickly finished him. The other Sacaens had caught up to him, he turned and simply said, "Let's go."

Selibas sheathed his great blade, and pulled out Caladbolg, holding it in one hand as usual. He walked down a long hallway, stopping in front of each doorway. There were three in the hall way, doors that is. The first room had two men, the second, four, and the third, one. Selibas set the mage, a swordsman, and the short archer on the first door, six men on the second, an archer behind him for good measure on the third, and one man to watch the entry to another hallway. The man was eating, and Selibas was lucky he had his back to the doorway. He decided to reuse his signal, "LIGHT!" The man turned and got up, already holding his axe in his left hand. Selibas and the man clashed their weapons high in the air. Selibas jumped back quickly, and hopped back in almost immediately stabbing at the mans lower stomach. It would have rendered the man unable to defend himself, but the man deflected the blow. The man went on the offensive, swinging his axe in a downward arc, which Selibas bashed down.
The bandit was smarter than the other, he yelled, "INTRUDERS!" He lifted his axe, and swung it from the left. Selibas jumped in past the massive blade, and stabbed the man saying, "No need to yell." He turned and saw that the archer had stood in the door frame ready to shoot, but watching the whole thing. He walked back into the hall, seeing notable casualties. An archer had lost a finger, and the swordsman who had been with the mage was dead. He turned and said, "We need to hurry to the gate, they know we're here." He turned and began to jog toward the other opening.

Seibas lead the Sacaens up another flight of steps, and saw that they were coming toward an entrance to the courtyard. He could hear the bandits running around outside. He opened the door from behind the wall, making it so that he wouldn't get hit by a stray arrow. He poked his head out just enough to see the courtyard layout. He was suddenly pulled back by his collar, and saw an arrow fly a few inches past where his head had been. He turned and thanked the man, but his mind was already racing trying to find a way to get through the courtyard. He turned and said, "Okay, give me ten seconds. I'm going to get to cover, then you all begin laying cover and make it to my position. Got it?" The Sacaens nodded, and readied theire bows, the Illian Mage lighting a ball of flame in his palm. Selibas gathered himself, drew Zulfiqar, and took off running through the door.
Selibas ran along the wall, running as fast ashe could. There was a group of fallen stone that he tought would provide workable cover. The only problem was, there were three bandits running toward him. One of them got taken dowb by about four arrows from the doorway. The other two continued to come for him He made it close enough to the cover to be semi protected, but not well enough.

THWAAAANG! An arrow took Selibas in his left shoulder. Now, Selibas had had his fair share of wounds, but this hurt immensely, and the sheer pain made him scream at the top of his lungs, "F**K!" He allowed his left arm to fall completely. He slowly moved toward the rubble, but not letting his eyes off the two bandits coming for him. He wasn't incredibly confident in his ability to face two men at the same time, but he had to, so it would be done. The first man reached him with his axe in the air, the swordsman behind him a bit more cautious of the door behind them. Selibas decided to do something stupid, knowing it wasn't the first time.
Selibas lunged forward, the mans momentum taking him stomach first onto the slim blade. He managed to turn off of it before it went to deep, and swung his axe down at Selibas. The young Sacean viciously grinned as he jumped aside from the blow. He tossed his sword into the air, but instead of catching it, drew Caladbolg, and stabbed the man in the chest, twisting the blade as it plunged through his heart. He felt a slash take his back as the forgotten swordsman showed that he had given his position away. Sadly for him, by this time the Sacaens had poured out of the doorway. An enemy arrow whizzed past Selibas' head, as a ball of flame blew barely past his opponents back. The man swung at the Sacaen Chief, but was block as his fear began to overshadow his skill. Selibas swung, but was blocked.
A young Sacaen swordsman had been sprinting towards them, and sliced through the bandits neck, not all the way through, but enough to cover Selibas' face in blood. Selibas fell to his knee quickly. remembering the arrow from earlier, and pulling it out. He began to wipe the blood out of his eyes, as he felt the young Sacaen stand over him, and the rest begin to surge to the cover and pick off the defending archers. Selibas looked up with clean eyes, only to see the swordsman fall, with an arrow through his throat. The man was only a few years older than Selibas, but he had people who cared about him. He wore a unique medallion, and Selibas took it, figuring his family would recognize it, and Sel could apologize personally. He scrambled and resheathed Zulfiqar, as the mage shot another ball of flame into the air, signaling they were close to the gate.

The archers were already sprinting ahead, firing shafts toward the walls, only occasionally missing their mark. Selibas struggled to catch up, but he was younger than the lot of them, and slowly made it to the front of a small column. A young boy, maybe Selibas' age ran up to the Sacaen chief, brandishing a lance in his hands. Selibas batted a clumsy blow aside, then pulled the shaft of the lance past him. He lifted his sword to finish the boy, but instead decided not to take his life. It was strange how essentially raising himself made him feel older than people his age, but he wouldn't take the mans life. He pulled him past him, then bashed him on the back of the head with the flat part of his crosspiece. The boy went sprawling, and Selibas kept moving. An arrow narrowly missed him, but he heard a man scream as death took him.
Selibas finally made it to the portcullis. He slowly began to turn it as the men surrounded him and began covering his work. Men began to come out into the courtyard, many of them well armored, lances in hand to harry the Sacaens. Selibas just barely managed to get the gate open in time. Thirty Sacaens passed under the gate at full gallop, whooping, arrows whizzing, swords singing. Selibas locked the gate open, in case the tribesmen needed to escape. Selibas turned smiling, and ran to join his brothers in the glory of the fight. The pain in his arm was almost out of mind, and he met a large bandit with a large axe. The man clearly fought to intimidate, struggling to lift the axe to even his shoulder.
Selibas slashed the mans ribcage, then dodged a crashing blow from the axe. Selibas slashed the man's left shoulder, then backhanded his face with the pommel of his sword. The man recovered quickly, and Selibas took a clumsy rebbudle from the large axe to his shoulder. His armor kept his arm safe from being ripped off, but, his arm went limp. He had to drop Caladbolg, dodging a follow up swing from the great axe. Selibas pulled Zulfiqar out with his left hand so that the blade was the opposite way from it's usual position, and turned enough so that he shoved the blade all the way through the mans chest as his breath picked up.
The blood covered his hand, and dripped into his sheathe as he placed Zulfiqar back, wanting to keep his oldest sword for some unknown battle. He felt his hair matt onto his forehead for the first time, heavy from the blood of a swordsman who's death had covered him in the gore. He slowly bent and picked up his iron sword. He re-sheathed it as the battle continued, bent over and breathed for his few brief seconds of peace in the heat of battle.

Selibas didn't kill another man in the courtyard, the fresh Sacaen Nomads making quick work of the few bandits left outside. Selibas was about to give a few orders, when Marjuin, the blood-brother of the Frucili chief, stepped before all the men. He spoke in a harsh, commanding tone, and the men quieted down immediately. He said, "We are on the brink of victory men, I will be leaving fifteen of you outside, and the rest of you shall accompany me inside to finish this threat to the families." The men cheered as their officer patted the men who would stay outside. They were blooded men, who he cold trust. Selibas was one of the men to go into the breach.
They trudged through the halls of the greater part of the fortress, greater meaning larger as the fort was but a ruin. Selibas suggested, "We should check each door." The officer simply nodded. They opened the first few doors with little resistance, finding no-one. But eventually, they opened a door with five men in the room. Selibas was among the first of the younger warriors to rush into the room, and met a swordsman head-on.
The man was older than to be expected, but young enough to move fast. Selibas had Caldbolg in his right hand, and swung low, the man skidding back after blocking the blow. The man had excellent footwork, and moved Selibas back as he used precision, speed, and strength in a combination Selibas had never fought. Selibas felt clumsy parrying the blows away again and again. He stumbled, and the man would have killed him, if Marjuin had not taken the man through he back of the chest. Blood splattered Selibas again, and as he was helped to his feet, he said, "What is it with you Fruchili and getting other men's blood on me?" The man actually smiled at that, but the Sacaens all quickly moved on, readying themselves for the next small battle.

All doors, but the mess hall's, were opened and the rooms searched. One room had a group of young women, Sacaen and Illian, naked, and grim. A few men recognized the women from their tribe, and the anger swelled. Two men led the women outside, draping them in furs and the cloths of dead bandits, with sadly, no other options. They could hear sounds from within the mess, and Marjuin grew angrier with every retraced step to the great doors. Which, Selibas supposed, accounted for him throwing the door open and sprinting forward, all the other men standing back for a few seconds. As they spilled into the room, they saw eight men standing far away, and a thin one yell, "STOP!" Marjuin didn't. An arrow hit him, then two more, he slowly sank to the ground.
The thin man said, "Men, throw down your bows. Excuse me, I propose a truth, you are the intruders correct." Selibas saw the other men were barely holding themselves back, waiting for one of them to answer. Selibas was just as angry as all the other men, and he was shocked as he heard it in his own voice, "No. We're the Sky Father d****d minstrel group. Yes we're the f***ing intruders." The man laughed, an annoying sound. "I propose you and I fight it out, then, our men go free." Honorable for a bandit. Selibas, turned to the men around him. He whispered to the blond archer from before and whispered, "If I fall, kill them anyway." Selibas stepped forward, "I accept."

Selibas took off his jacket. He folded it neatly, and placed it on a table. He stood up straight, and kicked the sheath of Epeeciel. He reached his right hand across his body fast enough to catch the blade's hilt. He slowly pulled the second half of the blade out of it's sheath, and raised it to rest on his shoulder. The skinny Illian had a Rapier, and nodded to Selibas, inviting him to start. Selibas cracked his neck, and rolled his shoulders forward, all before lurching forward without a sound towards the man.
He swung his sword down hard, but the man flowed like water, and lightly pushed the great blade aside as he sidestepped. He quickly hit Selibas twice, once in the chest-plate, then the ribs. Selibas' chest was fine, but his breath picked up as his side was cut.
He clapped his left hand onto Epeeciel's hilt, barely moving away from another quick blow. He stepped forward, dragging his right foot as he kicked at the man's right shin with his left foot. The man showed superb awareness, and lifted the leg, using power from that to stab Selibas through an exposed part of the leather layer of his breastplate. Selibas got a painful wound under his collarbone, and swore under his breath.
Selibas swung the blade, faster than before, but his diagonal arc did little against the air the man had been in seconds before. Selibas turned in time, to lift his right hand to bat away the rapier headed for his neck, surprising both men with his sudden burst of speed. The man quickly danced back, and cut a gash along the young Sacaen's left handed fingers.
Selibas dropped the great blade. The man plunged his rapier into Selibas' left leg. Selibas remembered a trick he'd used once before. He snapped his leg to the the left, pulling the mans sword out of his hands. Selibas pulled the very sword out, and, grabbing his opponent's hair, plunged the thin blade through the man's chest. The man slumped down, and Selibas threw away the flimsy weapon. He turned to the waiting bandits. "Throw down any weapons you have." The men complied.

Selibas walked back to the Sacaens, and whispered to the blond archer, "When I give our previous signal, kill them. Pass the order, and know that what they did warrants this action." Selibas stepped forward again. "Which of you is second in command here now?" A man stepped forward, and Selibas spoke again, "Come, kneel facing your men." The man reluctantly trudged over and did as he was told. Selibas stepped on his hands, and took of the young swordsman from the courtyard's medallions. "Beg. Beg for your life after what you did to those women."
Selibas remembered a poem in Bern with a concept called the heart of Darkness. It essentially explained that to answer evil, you had to become evil. And Selibas was at this point planning something evil. The man began to beg for his life, as Selibas wrapped the medallion around his neck, and bows lifted behind his back. The man struggled to be free, but Selibas choked the life out of him and barely had to whisper, "Light." The man under the necklace was the last to die.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Selibas walked out of the fort in the front. Many men had given the women seats on their horses, and Selibas whistled for Lightning. He wasn't proud of what he'd done in cold blood, but he'd done it, and he felt while excessive, it was right. He mounted his horse when it galloped up, and rode away with the tribesmen.

Selibas dismounted in the dark. There were few fires in the camp of the Fruchili, but Selibas could make out the ger of the chief in the center. Good, he'd want to hear what Selibas had to say first hand. Selibas told the men to take the women from the tribe to their family. The women had been taken when they'd left to make their names. Their families would have had no idea of their plight. It would be a dark reunion, but there would be happiness in it. Selibas addressed the young Illian women, "P-please, come with me." He walked to the chiefs ger, fingering the hilt of Zulfiqar with his left hand.
He entered the ger silently, and saw that the chief was eating. Selibas stood in the door frame, but lifted his hand to the following women. The chief signaled for him to sit, and Selibas saw one of the young sons of the chief dart into the ger, and grab his practice bow. The chief's wife brought Selibas a sack of mutton and Selibas nodded in thanks. The chief finally swallowed and asked, "Where is Marjuin?" Selibas replied without hesitation, "Something...drove him to face uneven odds by himself." The man nodded, "I suppose it has something to do with the women I did not send with you? I recognized one of them despite the distance when I first spied you. It was Marjuin's daughter. He told her he never wanted to see her again when she left to elope with an Illian merchant. It was probably very difficult for him to handle seeing her there and not being able to break his vow."
Selibas nodded and the man continued, "The threat to any random traveler is not one I have thought about. Ever since our mutual friendship with the Lorca began, we haven't felt a fear of enemies. I clearly see, that that was stupid. I thank you for your help, and I don't blame you for our loss. You've done us a service, and I'm sorry I can't pay you. Please, stay as long as you need, and never hesitate to ask for Fruchili help." Selibas stood, and walked away.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Selibas walked away from the ger which housed the now crying mother and angry father. His neck was one medallion lighter, so he mounted Lightning, and rode away, looking for a nice tree on the way to Bern to sleep under.
