Statistically, they have been. Just like Valcrist might not be Sacaen, but he uses Sacaen style swordplay. Your class name has NO bearing on what you call yourself in game. A mounted archer in Lycia could be a knight, all knight meant was that you were knighted. You may recall that the character at the beginning of the arc, Denzel, was a knight. His CLASS was Cavalier.
All classes are good for is describing your limits and proficiencies, everything else is in game. Could a Swordmaster call himself a hero? Sure, if he wanted to. Could a Mage Knight address himself as a Sage? Again, it's in game, whatever your character would refer to themselves as, stands.

Nomad implies that they're...well...nomads, and if I'm not mistaken, Grayson was planning on going the horse archer mount.
Myrmidon implies a certain proficiency with the blade, as does swordmaster, but neither have any bearing on what nationality your character is.
To be fair, if it were up to me, hero would get changed to something else, and knights and generals would go back to being armors.

All I am saying is the Class Title is an OOG mechanic. It tells us your progression path, your proficiencies, your focuses. What you character calls themselves is something completely different. Wyatt never called himself a Fighter, nor will he ever call himself a Hero. And who is to say Mercenaries have to use swords? I am quite sure all of Ilia are Mercenaries, and most of them use Lances. What you call yourself in game is your own choice. EDIT to add examples: People still call Ralph a thief, even though he is a rogue now. Jya introduces herself as an Assassin, because that is her job not her class. To spite being a Mage Knight, Elias is still addressed as a Mage. Everyone calls Manaketes, Dragons. (Ok, that one is a little weak.) If you want to make up a name for your class, do so in game. But be aware, many people might not know what that refers to. Different upbringings and all that. Someone could introduce themselves as a member of the Third Pharean Dragoon Squad. If the person they are talking to knows what a 'Pharean Dragoon' is, becomes another matter entirely.

cough mercenaries cough.
If we're talking about a class with a name that needs changing... that's probably it. Makes it SO ridiculously confusing to have to specify Mercenary (class) vs mercenary (profession).
Fire Emblem kinda dropped the ball on names in general, I think; there are more than a few that are iffy-ish.

By that logic, what's the point of a class name? We might as well boil it down to "sword/spear - unmounted" or "lance - mounted" and then entirely go off of however people RP.
All I'm saying is given the relative lack of specificity of the rest of the class titles, "Nomad Trooper" seems a bit specific.
EDIT: Agreed, Nayru. That should also get changed.

I just question the desire to change things that really do not need to be changed.
Many people have played the FE games, they can look at 'Nomad Trooper' and know instantly what they should be seeing or expecting. I don't mind changing when there is something to be gained from it, but this feels suspiciously like Change for Change's sake.

I'd like to think of it as change for thematic sake.

Technically a cavalier is a knight, but that's neither here or there.
The classes aren't so much named for the jobs of the specific character as it is for the typical character of that class. Most knights were knights. Most mercs were mercs. There are some exceptions. Brom wasn't a knight at all, and the very first mercenary in ANY Fire Emblem game wasn't a merc by trade.
