Born in**: northern portion of Ilia
Story***: Aurek was born in a small village in Ilia to a travelling dancer and a soldier hired by the village elders. The dancer was one of the most beautiful women the townspeople had seen, while the soldier was of simply average appearance though a decent fighter. After the birth of Aurek, the two settled down in the area permanently.
His mother's name was Nadya, but his father's identity was kept a mystery to Aurek. When Aurek turned three, his father suddenly left in a great hurry, leaving behind everything including his lance and armor. Because she felt abandoned, Nadya did not speak of his father for many years. She was able to make a living for Aurek and herself through her dancing for nearby villages and towns though. Since Aurek was the only one left to Nadya, she tried to make his life easier and worked very hard. As Aurek grew up he was unable to go outside much because any sun was painful to him, so his mother began to spoil him. He became exceedingly apathetic and did little if anything because of his father's lack of an example of responsibility and his mother's doting care.
At the age of 16, Aurek still had learned almost nothing though not from his mother's lack of trying. He was just too lazy. Nadya did not want her son to be useless, so she began taking him to the nearby school. Aureck's apathy did not go away though, even under harsh punishment. He was anything but stupid though. At the rare moments when he did get sick of all the punishment, he would astound everyone by completing any assignment in mere minutes. Even though he was praised greatly for his abilities, he still didn't care.
After 4 years at the school with little progress, Aurek refused to go. He would simply not get out of bed. At this point, his mother lost all hope for her son. The most common thing she would say to him was, "You're just a mess, a real wreck." Even in the village, on the rare occasion Nadya could get Aurek to come with her, she would tell him, "You're a wreck." Soon, "Wreck" became his nickname due to how close it was to his actual name. Aurek never seemed to care about any of this though.
For 10 years, the story of "Wreck" circulated through the village. When he would pass through in his long cloak he always wore to block any sunlight, parents would bring their children out and point at Aurek, "If you don't do well in your studies, you'll end up like that man." Of course no one bothered him, so things continued peacefully. Then, when Aurek turned 30, Nadya and all the villagers were sick of the useless person he was. They began telling him at every chance they had that he should be more like his father and be adventurous. However, Aurek simply didn't care. He only knew his father as the useless man who had abandoned his family. Not exactly a shining example.
This pestering continued daily for 10 years. Finally, Aurek had had enough. He looked at his mother with the same listless expression he always wore and said to her, "Alright." At first, his mother and all the villagers were happy. Aurek began putting on travelling clothes along with his father's armor and his cloak to block the sun. The final items he took were a sack of food and the lance his father had left. As he was leaving, his mother and all the townspeople thought he was going to join a mercenary guild and care for his mother. After a few months, when no money had come back, they realized Aurek had become like his father: leaving without telling anyone anything.
Aurek had taken the armor and lance, not to fight, but because he figured they would intimidate people enough to leave him alone. After all, he really didn't want to do anything. After travelling for a few years, he realized that drunks were the ones who were usually left alone, not those with weapons. Seeking his solitude amongst people yet not wanting to drink, Aurek placed a glass shard in the bottlenecks giving the appearance of drinking when nothing was actually consumed. He still kept the lance and armor simply because he was too lazy to get rid of the armor and the lance made an excellent walking stick. A drunk soldier was a scary thing to happen upon usually.
Personality: The levels of his apathy and laziness are only matched by his love of sleeping. Very few things can make him care, and ruining an excellent nap is one of them. Anything he finds annoying is another. Things such as talking, yelling, running, or loud noises in general are not welcome near Aurek. They remind him too much of all the pestering villagers back home. If something does annoy him, he is most likely to try silencing it. Although, he still is a really lousy fighter.
