Name: Kyo
Class: Thief
Hair color: Brown
Eye color: The windows match the drapes
Age: 25 (or at least this is the age he will admit to should one ask. he's been 25 for years now.)
Origin: Lycia
Current Inventory:
Slim Sword 35/35
Lockpick 15/15
Appearance: White skin, the skin of someone who apparently does not see much sun. Thin as a reed and most definitely short by most male standards. His muscles are not immediately apparent, but he is built like a cord due to hauling around larger or a number of pilfered items. He stands at a rather diminutive 5'7, further enhancing his air of harmlessness. He wears his brown hair rather long, but keeps it pulled back into a braid in order to keep his hair from being a distraction while thieving.
He is not very good at braiding his own hair, so the braid tends to be messy most of the time. If the braid gets too long (past his shoulder blades), rather than deal with it regularly he takes his knife to it and just lops it off. as such, the end of his length of hair is always frayed.
He is definitely a very plain looking person, one of those people you would never spare a second glance if he was walking down the street, keeping his head down. However, his eyes tell a different story about him, if you would glance into them.
Personality: An extremely cocky, self-centered braggart. He has a sense of humor, willing to make jokes at his own or at others expense. However, his ego is nothing to be trifled with. He has a soft spot for street urchins or other thieves who are just trying to make a living, having come from a similar background. He tries to avoid hard work and manual labor whenever possible. He also has a stubbornly competitive streak.
However, when his nose comes to the grindstone, he likes to fancy himself a reliable person. A true jerk with a heart of gold. If he finds a friend, he keeps them. He has a hard time being truly heartless in the way of betrayal.
He'll still pick your pocket though. Old habits die hard.
Story: A born and bred street rat.
Apparently his parents didn't want him, because for as long as he could remember he had to survive on the streets of a Lycian city. In order to survive, he learned to not be picky about what he would eat, and quickly threw whatever morals may have been fostered inside of him to the curb at a young age. He became extremely good at picking pockets, stealing, running cons and generally looking harmless enough to pull all of those three things off with no particular trouble. He soon garnered quite the reputation amongst the other street rats for being very good at what he did. This is where his inflated ego came from.
However, in spite of being at the head of the pack (or perhaps because of it), he always dreamed about doing bigger or better things. He had a good head for business and was very adept at saving his money. Of course, it was easier to save your money when you didn't have any bills to pay and could just steal any food or clothes you may have needed. Unlike some of his peers who would blow all of their money on food, fine drinks or wenches, Kyo would never indulge himself in that way. Plus, even if he was old enough to be interested in the women, he could get his own.
His childhood wasn't all smooth sailing. He took his fair share of knocks and had some run-ins with the law. A jealous street rat here, and botched grab there. You couldn't be perfect 100% of the time when you were still learning the tricks of the trade. He was a quick study, and failing pulling off his job, a quick runner. If he could spare the money, or if he had no other way out, he was also quick with the bribes.
Finally, circumstances necessitated that he kill a man. At the tender age of 12, he slit a throat. He'll never forget the way it felt. Killing just wasn't his thing. Especially up close and personal like that.
Of course, that isn't to say that he hasn't killed since. Of course not. He has killed his fair share of people since. In a business like the one Kyo had gotten himself involved in, you had to do what you had to do. Eventually, he could even stop wretching at the thought of taking a life. He never grew desensitized to it though, and he would do all he could to avoid the dirty deed. He has been responsible for more than a few deaths.
Eventually, he decided that his home turf was much too restricting for him. He lit out one day on a whim, with stolen clothes, a stolen satchel, and comfortable boots (also stolen, of course!). He was off to see the world and to ply his trade. His skills had only become better since then. He avoided fair fights whenever he could.
Eventually, he found a master who could steal the hat right off of a mark and sell it back to the poor sap for a profit. The old hand recognized something in Kyo, and took the now young man under his wing to teach him even more tools of the trade. The master taught him how to blend in, how to school his face into any emotional mask that would be required for any given situation. What the old man could not do was get rid of Kyo's cocky streak. It was an ingrained part of his student's being.
He learned under this man for years and years, until the old fogey eventually disappeared without a trace. Kyo waited around a bit for him to reappear, but he never did. After a few days, Kyo once again left his home. He knew that he would never see the old man again.
After this, his adventures began to nowehere. On the road in Bern, he encountered a few wacky characters named Flyssa and Kenshin. He ended up pilfering Flyssa's bag and cloak and running off with them. He would hold onto this bag as well as the contents within it for some time to come.
From there, he fled over the border from Bern to Lycia, ending up in the city of Ostia. This is where Sain kept his castle. He came up with a hairbrained scheme to infiltrate the castle and steal something valuable. He managed to get into the castle okay, but through a stroke of pure unadulterated bad luck, ran into the lord of the castle himself.
After a brief scuffle and a well timed distraction that originated from inside of the castle, Kyo made his escape. Unfortunately, instead of making his way out of the palace and live to fight another day, he ran into the palace in order to recoup some of his losses from this disaster. Instead what he found were a couple of men standing over an archer. He stopped, heaved a mighty sigh, and with the initiative managed to kill the mage of the group. Kyo used a vulnerary to revive the archer, who introduced himself as Matthias. After this fight, Sain convinced him to work for the team of good by providing various riches.
Kyo agreed, naturally. Easy money.
The next destination was back to Bern. The mages that teleported Matthias off to Bern messed up the spell when it came to Kyo. Kyo ended up on the complete opposite side of the continent in Nabata.
After falling from the sky and wandering the desert for a good amount of time, Kyo found himself once again in the midst of combat. For someone who doesn't like to fight, Kyo sure knew how to get himself into sticky situations. He quickly stabbed the bandit in the back, killing him. Even though he got into fights, that didn't mean he had to fight fair. It was here that he met Geist, Hawkeye, and Marceus.
After being escorted back to Arcadia, Kyo broke away from Geist and Marceus, but couldn't quite sneak away from Hawkeye. He was picking pockets again, force of habit. Eventually, he made it back to where Geist and Marceus were conversing with the elder. The elder noticed his new haul, but couldn't very well prove that he had stolen the money.
Then, yet another fight scene occured. After this one, Kyo sort of dropped off the face of the earth. The next time he reappeared he encountered Kenshin again, as well as his entourage in the Nabata desert. He still had Flyssa's locket. However, all of her other belongings were gone, having been bartered and used to further Kyo's own agenda. However, he couldn't bring himself to get rid of that darned locket.
Apparently a huge battle had taken place in front of a gigantic, and no one had searched the dead bodies for any particular loot. Kyo, having no qualms about that particular task, went to loot the bodies instead. He found nothing of value, of course.
After joining Kenshin's group again in order to meet Flyssa to return her locket, the group entered the sandship. Apparently it had belonged to a woman named Sonia, and after another brief fight, she turned out to be an illusion. After spending some time with Kenshin's group, Kyo ended up accidentally getting separated from them and going his own way.
From there, Kyo ended up in Etruria, where he once again encountered Matthias. After one of Kyo's favorite past times, grave robbing, the thread just sort of died, so Kyo moved on. An unspecified amount of time later, Kyo ended up back in Lycia. Someone had challenged him to a stealing contest. While this idea appealed to Kyo, he never showed up for it, prefering to do his stealing in his own way.
From there, he sort of fell off the face of the earth again. He'll probably turn up somewhere.
