Euphemious in truth is not his real name. His true name is Greggory Lowlander a son of the once noble house of Lowlander. The Lowlanders were an old noble house of Bern who lineage could be traced back to Scowering. Their great ancestor Charles D. Lowlander was said to have fought side by side with the great Hartmut in the war with the dragons. At the end of the War Hartmut declared Charles D. Lowlander protector of Bern and keeper of Mount Phoenix Fall. There atop of that very same mountain Charles built Lowlander Hall a grand castle forged from blacken stone that were forged in their battles with the dragon.
For countless generations the Lowlander family lived on Mount Phoenix Fall under the roof of Lowlander Hall. As their family grew so did their power and their enemies. The Lowlander family became very powerful in Bern and began to squabble and fight with the other noble houses of Bern. However at one point in the history of the Lowlander family a daughter of their house married the king of Bern and thus the Lowlander house took the ascension. With their connections to the royal line the Lowlanders became untouchable and as a result became arrogant. Even after the passing of the king and his Lowlander wife the family still remained powerful. Their fate was not intertwined with that of Bern's Royal family; however fruitful it was this fact proved to be their down fall. Once the last king of bern fell the enemies of house Lowlander, commoners and nobles alike, took the opportunity to attack Lowlander Manor.
The Battle for Lowlander Manor was said to have raged for three days, but in the end the Lowlander family had lost. The manor of sacked and burned to the grounds. Only the temple of ashes, which was built in honor of Hartmut, was left standing. Everything else was destroyed with the exception of the Champion's Sword which was the symbol of Lowlander house nobility. It was stolen away during the battle by thieves and was never seen again.
As for the members of Lowlander family itself they were decimated. Many of them chose to fight to the death and to protect their house. The only ones that survived were the child who were too young to fight. Their mothers hide them in the crypt of their great ancestor Charles D. Lowlander and left to join the fight. From inside they could hear the screams of their family as they died to the blades of their enemies. For two days Greggory, and his two cousins stayed in that crypt fearing for their life. On the third day they were found by Omar an old servant of House Lowlander. He took the children from the crypt and move them into his home.
As they left the temple he told the little ones to close their eyes as he did not want for them to see the carnage that took place outside. Greggory however disobeyed and as a result his eyes were meet with the image of carnage that befell the Lowlander family. There he saw the rooting corpses of his family and the shattered stones of their once might hall. Amongst the corpses stood a single pillar that once a part of a network of pillars that lined Lowlander Hall. The stone read "fire burns everything, and gives new life". These words stuck to Greggory as he grew under the guidance of Omar.
Omar despite being old lived to see Greggory grow up to become a man. Upon Omar death his real children took claim to the land and removed the fugitive Lowlanders from his house slamming the door on them as they left. This however did not bother Greggory, but his cousins Gwendolyn and Anastasia were practically spitting fire. None the less Greggory rallied his cousins and turned their misfortune into their salvation.
"With this", he spoke. "Our debt to Omar has passed. We promised the old man we would not seek vengeance as long as he lived, but now he is dead. Let us return once more to mount Phoenix Fall and rise once again from our ashes."
Moved by Greggory they returned to their old home of Lowlander hall. For the first time his cousin viewed the destruction, but for Greggory this was simply and old memory. He entered the tome of his great ancestor and opened the crypt that once protected them from harm. Inside were two iron axes and a slim spear. By tradition they were laid next to the dead as symbol of his bravery in life.
"We take this from our dead", spoke Greggory as he handed and axe to his cousins. He then took the slim spear for his own. "For we need it to rise once", spoke the young nobleman as he removed the ancient armor from the dried bones of his ancestor. Once again the armor protected a member of hous Lowlander, and once more Lowlanders took up arms.
As Greggory finished dressing himself in the armor of his ancestor he began to speak once more. "From this day forward I am Greggory no more. Now I am Euphimous son of no one till the day I reclaim the champion sword and bring house Lowlander back from the ashes."
Moved by her cousins resolved Anistasia followed suit. "Then I am no longer Anistasia", she spoke. "I am sword for that is all I am till the day we reclaim what was stolen from us."
"Then I am axe", spoke Gwendolyn leaving no space behind her cousin declaration.
"You know you could have chosen regular names", he spoke while partially chuckling. He spoke once again before they could speak. "None the less Axe and Sword, let us teach the people of Bern that fire destroys everything and brings forth new life. Thus Euphimous began his quest to find the champions sword and bring new life to Burn.
