More and more news of monsters and baddies flooded into the city states. Travelers were being ambushed on the road. Whole towns being whipped out by rampaging undead. Tales of wing beast flying in the air and stories and rumors of monsters so horrific Balgoth would not even think about them. Things in Lycia were going back and they were going bad fast. If the league was going to survive the monster invasion they were going to need strong arms and a boost of moral. What Lycia needed was a symbol. A symbol of hope. A symbol of there strength as a people and there ability to fight back against the coming tide. As a civil servant of Lycia the task of doing so fell to him. If anybody was going to aid his people it would be Balgoth. He knew the pain of lossing somebody to the monsters. He knew the ins and outs of Lycian court, and he knew the people. Though there relationship was a bit damaged thanks to his field of work. Still Balgoth knew what they needed. They needed hope, they needed defense, they needed organization. There was only one thing in the world that could give all three of those tangible things. Only one, and that was a castle.
Not just any castle. No a small fort was not going to do. It had to be a big castle. One that would tower over the landscape and bring joy and a feeling of safety to all those who laid eyes upon it. It would have to be built in an area of great turmoil and built with stones strong enough to withstand any assault. May it be man or beast. This castle had to be grand, beyond any other castle in the league. Elegant, beautiful, and sturdy these were the three traits needed for his symbol. However there was a fourth factor that made things far more difficult. The castle could not be built under the funds or aid of a single city state. No it had to be done without there aid. If a city state had paid for the resources or given a significant amount of aid to its construction they would claim it as there own. The castle would not be a symbol of Lycia and instead be a symbol of that city states power and dominance. It would be garrison by them. Used by them, and worse of all squandered by them. Every stone, every coin, and every drop of sweet had to come from the people. It had to be Lycia's castle, not a marquess castle.
"Bob, do you have the maps surrounding the lands near ostia", asked Balgoth as he walked into a military fort. The priest began to make move on his quest. The first thing he was going to need before gathering coin, resources, and man power was simply a spot He needed a spot to place the darn thing.
