The waitress returned with their drink orders. Aria cupped her hands over the sides of the mug letting them warm up. Her finger tips were cold for some reason and so the heat from the tea felt soothing. The wyvern rider peeked out the window to see Chewy and Julius doing things. It seemed that Chewy was giving Julius a lesson in flying. Chewy kept herself grounded but showed Julius the standard postiton wyverns take to fly off. She lightly flapped her wing to show how it was supposed to move. Even though the pup was too young to take his first flight, that didn't seem to stop Julius from trying. Julius tried puffing his chest and flapping his wings with all his might. The little guy was trying so hard. He even added jumping in his attempt at flight. After the first few attempts Chewy guided Julius onto her snout and stood up on her hind legs. Little Julius seemed happy at the gesture. He gave tiny roars in short bursts. Almost as if he was shouting to the world “look at me I'm on a mountain”.
There was a small smile on Aria’s face. It was rare for her to see Chewy act so motherly. Maybe. I should swing by the ranch and see how everyone is doing.
“Well I for one am glad Chew isn't teaching him any bad behaviors. Then again.. She knows I'm watching.”
She turned back and saw that Liam had removed his eye patch. A long painful looking scar covered part of his face. It appeared to trail up from under his eye upwards. Aria had a feeling that Liam was missing his eye under his closed eyelids. His talk about his wife and son left her with a soft frown. She didn't mean to dredge up what appeared to be a painful memory.
“I am sorry. For what you lost.”
By now the waitress brought them their meals. Aria’s meat was coated in a delectable blend of spices. Enough so that the roll and ear of corn were absorbing its juices. How wonderful.
“Well, Liam if you are willing to tolerate our presence a little longer I can give you a basic understanding of wyverns. Milestones to look out for. And what he should avoid eating..” The rider went ahead and grabbed her fork and knife. Then started to delicately cut her of boar meat into bite size morsels.
“I do apologize if Chewy doesn't exactly make the best impression. I know she's a bit of a spoiled brat. Part of that is my fault.. I was about five when she hatched.. six when we bonded.. and a bit of a brat myself. Other part of it is that she's huge. Meaning she can shove her weight around and get what she wants.”
