Syana finally looked up from the maps, shaking her head. She reached her hand out and gave Phantom a few pets on the head for being on her side. She had never ridden a wyvern before, but she was looking forward to it. She had ridden horses before, and wyverns were basically sky horses. No, that'd be pegasus. Did she really just forget about pegasi? She shook her head. Not what she should be worrying about right now.
Instead, she turned to Gaius with a serious look on her face. She usually didn't like having to get serious around him. Making fun of him constantly was so much more fun. But the way things were looking, this wasn't going to be a joke. He wasn't wrong. No matter how many times she ran it over in her head, he was right. It reeked of foul play. And she didn't like it.
Giving a little shrug, Syana answered his question about the Blood Hawks. "I don't know a ton about them. I know they're a fairly big group and have a reputation of getting the job. The problem is, they get it done no matter the cost. That can cause a lot of innocent people to get hurt. I also know they try to recruit top level talent to help boost their ranks, be it mercenaries or ex-military. They're no slouches and they're not cheap. So whoever hired them to mess with our client has deep pockets. And I'd assume they'd have to have been hired. Mercs don't just do that for no reason. I just don't know what the reason is yet."

It seemed like the two of them were pretty much note for note when it came down to knowledge about the Blood Hawks. This would be a bit troublesome, tackling an unknown enemy was fun but it was dangerous. They’d be in their turf with no idea how they fight, how many there are and what their actual goal is. Luckily Gaius wasn’t the type that solely fought on foot and it didn’t matter how tough you were a wyvern the size of Phantom would make quick work of you. That was always the trick dealing with wyvern riders. The riders might be skilled warriors but it was the wyverns you really had to look out for.
”Definitely a group of pompous asses if you ask me. Worth the coin maybe but a self-righteous bunch they are. Make a mess wherever they go and hide behind their name like it’s supposed to mean something. Anyone with blood in their name has got to be full of it.” Gaius joked, not really fearing or taking the threat of the mercenary group all that seriously. ”They do have a knack for not letting much information about them get out there I’ll give them that.” He would add.
”Figure we should ask around the town see what we can gather on them. Maybe meet up tomorrow and share what we learned as we head out. Don’t plan on confronting them just yet, maybe just some scouting.” It was after this that Gaius came up with an idea. ”I figure we could try and join their ranks, infiltrate the group and learn what they’re up to. Two mercenaries like ourselves are rare to come by so I’m sure they’d jump at the chance to recruit us. They’ll never see it coming.” Gaius explained, thinking it wasn’t that shabby of a plan.
They did have the element of surprise on their hand when it came to intentions. If one of them managed to get on the inside, despite both of them being the main objective, they could feed information to the other until it was ready to make their move. Of course this sort of idea was extremely dangerous in terms of what could happen to them if they were discovered. The risk reward aspect of this idea felt worth it to Gaius and they always had Phantom for a quick getaway. If Syana wasn’t onboard with the whole idea they’d have to come up with something else.

Syana sighed. Gaius had actually started out so well, but then he let his typical dumbness get in the way. And here she had started to think there was hope for him. She shook her head. "Scouting around to get information is a good idea. Chances are at least some people in this area are less than fond of the Hawks and would be willing to spill some information about them. But you know that the Blood Hawks have to invite you to join, you don't just walk up and get in." Again, something Syana was still bitter about. Freaking Blood Hawks, was one invite too much to ask for? Sure, she's just turn it down in their faces, but still. It's the principle of the matter.
Back to the problem at hand, she was trying to figure out what would be their best course of action. Infiltrating the group like Gaius suggested was out of the question. If he wanted to go get himself killed doing it, he could go for it, but Syana was gonna pass on that. If their cover was ever blown, they'd need a miracle to get out alive. Shaking her head again, she addressed Gaius. "The better idea would be to wait until a chunk of their forces leave their base to go off on some sort of mission, then break in during the night. It might take longer, but it's definitely the safer option and I would prefer not to die." Then again, knowing Gaius, he'd oppose this. She was ready to preemptively roll her eyes.

Gaius had to admit, Syana’s idea was probably the safest route despite his own problems with it. His problems with it lied with the uncertainity of it just like in his own plan. If they had gotten the numbers wrong or never found out how many were actually at their base they could run into the issue of heading into the base when a majority of them are there and they wouldn’t have the cover of being one of them. So both of their plans had a bad outcome of things went to hell they’d just have to decided which was the safer bet.
If they could get a reliable source then no question Syana probably was in the right on this one however, Gaius wouldn’t admit that. Gaius also couldn’t resist the urge to completely fool the Blood Hawks with his plan, risks be damned. ”We’ll run into a hell of a situation if either of these plans go wrong.” Gaius wanted to argue his point a bit more but he’d let out a sigh and concede this time. ”But your plan does sound safer, we should probably go int that direction.” He couldn’t help but think they could run into issues trying to gather information.
”Hopefully people in this town will be willing to talk. Be a bit of a setback if the hawks scared this town into not talking.” Gaius definitely had ways of making people talk but he’d rather not terrorize the town for the time being and quite honestly didn’t enjoy doing that to people who were pretty much innocent. ”Should hit up a tavern or inn, might be a good place to gather information. If there’s an armory in town they could have stopped there to get new equipment or repairs. There’s plenty of ground to cover. “ Gaius was feeling oddly cooperative today, but today was already a weird day and the rider didn’t feel like having it get any worse with too much bickering between the two.

Syana couldn't help but smirk a little when Gaius agreed that her plan sounded safer and that they would probably go that route. It was always nice to here she was right, especially from him. Sadly, she was then forced to agree with him as well. "And you're not wrong either. Both of our ideas have the potential to fall apart if things go wrong. If you really want to try to to infiltrate their ranks, by all means go ahead. We could try to divide and conquer, but I think that we'd stand a better chance sticking together."
The red head ran her fingers through her hair. This wasn't the best situation. There was a ton they didn't know and there was a chance they'd have to go into this with blindspots. Syana didn't like that. Gaius brought up another good point, as much as she didn't want to have to admit that a second time in only a few seconds. They could be in trouble if the Hawks had threatened this town into silence. This would be their best source for information and if it was dried up, they'd be in the dark.
She nodded as he continued to talk. "I'll visit the tavern. Hopefully the people here haven't been scared into silence. And even if they are, I'll get a few drinks into them. That usually gets the mouths moving. And maybe I'd even luck out and run into a Blood Hawk and get him to spill some secrets. Womanly charm can go a long way. Do you want to take the armory?"
