Name: Talus
Class: Mage
Age: 18
Born in: Eturia
Appearance: Talus is a skinny male about 5ft, 4in. Tall. He has black hair and blue eyes and glasses with pale skin. He typically wears a blue and grey mage's outfit, a white coat, and carries a brown sack with him containing various books and other supplies as well. He is mildly handsome as well.
Personality: Talus is, at his core, brilliant, but extremely lazy and with a variable amount of common sense. Typically, he'll act in a way that he thinks will benefit him (and those he wants to help) the most, so for the most part, he tends to be friendly. He also dislikes combat, considering it not his strong suit.
However, on the battlefield, he is quick to panic if things go wrong, and may altogether flee if things go south and he has no real reason by then to stay.
He also tends to be extremely apologetic to a fault, sarcastic, and arrogant. He is also easily tricked into being manipulated by others, seeking attention and glory. As a result, he can be very easily irritated, especially if he's already in a bad mood. The easiest way, however, to tick him off is to make a crack involving his height, his family, or his skills.
In truth though, he has a much more virtuous side. He is more likely to do the right thing when he has to, and has incredible perserverence when he decides to truly get serious about something. He also (even if it doesn't exactly show often) deeply cares about his friends, and is empathetic to the weak, having been one for much of his youth.
His glory-hunting stems from a desire to be cool to others and have the friends he always wanted, having spent most of his childhood without any friends. This means that, while he is socially awkward, he does (usually) truly mean well for what he does.
In his spare time, he enjoys reading and/or various games. He likes things that he considers "interesting" things (like stories) the most, and is particularly drawn by people he considers "interesting" (i.e, who he considers different from most). He hates being touched, most of the time.
History: Born in Erustia to a middle-class family, he grew up as a gifted, if often very lonely, child raised by good parents. Even though he was often bullied as a youth for being smaller than the others, and for being physically weak (even by mage standards), he managed to get through more or less intact. He went to magic school as well, and graduated from there.
During that time, he took to sticking to purely magical theory, often passing up the chance to do field testing of it until he felt that the theory behind the spell was perfect.
He took a particular shine to using Wind and Electricity as well, often resorting to those two elements the most in practice duels. Even though he hardly won a fight, he soon garnered a reputation for never giving up once, something that won him some respect, but not enough to where he wanted to be.
He also had a particular rivalry during that time with a powerful clergy-affiliated wizard, Sercy, who he took losing to particularly badly due to Sercy's highly condescending and arrogant attitude towards Talus infuriating the latter into vowing to teach to him a lesson. Sercy, for his part, didn't even see him as a rival, something that infuriated Talus even more than the fact that he kept losing to him. The peak of this rivalry was an incident that nearly resulted in the destruction of the local shrine during one of their (non-permitted) sparring duels outside of the church when Sercy fired a burst of fire that Talus dodged that nearly burned down the church when it hit the church instead. As a result, Sercy swore that he would fight Talus any day for revenge on him, and Talus nearly got suspended from the academy, forcing both of them to put their rivalry on hold as the two were then separated to prevent a repeat of such a thing that lasted until graduation, lest things got any worse for them both.
As such, with the rise of the holy war, however, to avoid the (highly probable) risk of getting drafted into service, he left to go travel around the world. In the process, he hopes to make a name for himself, and get stronger with it. He also resumed his rivalry with Sercy after secretly meeting with the latter, both vowing to beat the other into the ground when they next met each other, as Sercy was heading for the battlefield to serve the country.
NPC fight:
"Wow. You're awfully short for a soldier. You lost, kid? Go home. The battlefield's no place for a brat like you. Go home to your mother." The bandit snarled at Talus with a menacing grin, an axe glinting in his hands.
"I'm no child. After all, could a child do THIS?!?!" Talus said angrily in response, letting his rage get the best of him briefly as he blasted a bolt of thunder at the bandit, causing the bandit to yowl in pain.
"Why you little-! I'm going to chop you to bits for that!" The bandit yelled angrily, counterattacking with a powerful slash that Talus barely managed to dodge in time. He knew what would happen if he got hit by a blow like that without armor, and it wasn't a pretty picture.
But it did do one thing that was in his favor:
It left his opponent wide open for a spell.
"Fool." Talus said, leaping back a bit before blasting the Bandit back with a powerful gust, knocking the bandit onto the ground unconscious.
Talus smirked as he looked down at his defeated opponent.
"Heh. Brains beats Brawn. Every. Single. Time." He said to himself.
PC fight:
Talus saw his opponent off in the distance, and smiled. Just one more person to take care of, in his opinion. Same old song and dance: Blast them with Thunder to get their attention, then blast them back with wind if they got too close for comfort. A routine that was like a rhythm to him, albeit, a rhythm that he didn't want to have to do so much, but would have to if he wanted any prayer of beating the hell out of Sercy when they next met.
"Let's get this over with already. I've got things to better things to do then blasting your sorry butt to the gods." He said while preparing a thunderbolt that he fired off at them.
