Seriously!?!? Not even a week in Bern and he already had poachers trying to get his lustrous white fur? Well, Theodore wouldn't totally blame them, he was rather dashing after all... Especially since he bought that suit in a tailor shop. One thing for sure, human fashion was something he enjoyed immensely. His new look was so new and interesting, he had already thrown out his old clothes from Vinland. When in Bern, do as the Bernese, no? Following that, his first days were pretty much simply him exploring the city as a tourist would, trying out everything he saw and learning as much as he could. He still found the concept of "gold" being currency a tad strange. Why waste such an amazing metal when it was one of the least reactive metals he knew o-
OH, BUT WHAT IF THAT WAS HE EXACT REASON THEY USE GOLD AS CURRENCY!?!?
This realisation made him come back down to earth and concentrate on what he was actually doing. For a few hours now, he had been running in the woods, running away... From who again? Oh right, poachers... OH RIGHT, POACHERS!!! Starting to run a bit faster than before, he tried to get as far as he could into the woods to lose them. Their horses were surprisingly fast, but he could still outrun them, it was simply a question of time before they would give up. Because of that, Theodore was only relatively scared. And even then, it was the rumors this would create which annoyed him. Right now he didn't need people to actively start looking for a giant rabbit with white fur. Thank god his tophat was big enough to hide his ears in his humanoid form at the very least.
Still sprinting in the woods, Theodore realised he probably was very easy to see considering his shiny white fur being contrasted by dark greens from the vegetation around him. It's hard being beautiful... He'd probably have to run even farther than anticipated because of that... Ugh, to think I let myself be discovered by guys like them. The poachers had probably heard about taguels from the explorers who came back from Vinland. Seeing Theodore's ears must've made them instantly want to sell his fur to rich nobles or something of the sort. The thought of that made Theodore quite angry. Everybody knows that my hide would be better used for arrow quivers! Has everybody forgot their sense of priority around here?
Theodore's train of thought kept getting more and more sidetracked from the dangerous situation he was in while running in the woods. One thing was for sure though... This day was definitly going to be an interesting one.

A low rumble issued from the base of Astoria's throat, sending vibrations throughout the olive wyvern's serpentine body. Adelaide felt them beneath her and throughout her posterior, silently wondering if thigh chafing was a common style shared by most armor-burdened denizens. The way Astoria jerked about seemed to exacerbate things, too. Adelaide kept her composure as one sweaty, gloved hand splayed the wyvern's harness while the other kept directional control. She didn't like to recall, much less admit it, that her first flight on the temperamental beast had her hurling buckets for nearly a fortnight.
She was only cruising at a semi-low altitude at this point, the myriad of trees seemingly rising like green, misshapen digits. The view was admirable, to say the very least. Though Adelaide had been well-acquainted with Astoria by now, and though she had come to like the wyvern's erratic tendencies, she couldn't help but feel some lingering pangs of queasiness. It was at that moment that she started giggling - imagine a wyvern rider with acrophobia! Would an aerial unit with a fear of heights be screaming the entire time? The thought was nothing short of amusing.
It was also at that moment, however, that Astoria suddenly howled and commenced a steep dive, nearly flinging Adelaide off in the process. As the wyvern continued accelerating towards the horizon at a fast clip, she desperately began pulling back on the harness, letting slip a few choice swear words and combinations of them in the process. In any other instance, they would be hilarious.
"Astoria! Hold! What in the name of-" Adelaide's exclamation was cut off by the fact that Astoria had sprung forward, her scaly belly grazing the tops of trees. She appeared to be chasing something.
Then, Adelaide saw it - a fleck of the thing, but enough to register what it was nonetheless - a scampering ball of white fur, far larger than any rabbit Adelaide had ever seen. She briefly wondered if it was late for a very important date, but that was hard to do when mounted on a 900-pound careening mass of winged reptile. Astoria began to shriek once more, then dovetailed into the canopy, aiming straight for the gigantic rabbit.
"No! You just ate, you lummox! Pull up!" Adelaide shouted, tugging at the harness with all her might. She managed to glide the beast somewhat, but ultimately was unable to prevent it from impacting the ground directly behind the rabbit, which was still bolting along in her wake. The ground seemingly shook when Astoria slammed against it, but neither wyvern nor rider were harmed... so far. Surely the fiasco had brought some modicum of attention to light.

And anyways, doesn't that blacksmith realise that making a form fitting breastplate for women will only make attacks deviate to the center of the plate, where her heart is? Is the human libido now also contamining the graceful art of blacksmithing!?! Ugh, although I find them interesting, humans really do only think with their baser instincts despite their attempts at separating themselves from nature and to put themselves on a step above anima life. Though that futility is quite entertaining to watch...
Theodore's train of thought had REALLY deviated from the poachers who were actively seeking him out. However, his internal monologue came to a stop when his incredible hearing picked up something strange... Sounded like a bird... A really big bird... Ok, something was not right. Feeling something rush at him from behind, Theodore felt true fear as the earth shook behind him and he saw a wyvern fall right behind him. Without taking a moment to stop, Theodore jumped up on a tall rock nearby before turning back into his humanoid form, that way he'd be able to use his bow and stay away if the beast was going to attack him. As he got back on two feet, he took a small moment to replace his tophat on his head properly before pulling out his handmade bow he kept over his shoulder. He pulled back an arrow on the bow's string with deadly precision, the adrenaline pumping through his veins helping him focus. Looking at the beast, he started to better asses the situation. There was a big olive green dragon, well a wyvern actually. A dragon would've been enough to make him bolt in the other direction. A wyvern was a least a monster he could reasonably try to take on or at least hurt considerably for it to give up on getting its claws on Theodore's lucky rabbit's foot. However, he realised that despite its somewhat wild behavior, this wyvern had a rider! He knew he heard a voice right before it landed on the ground! A young woman clad with dark blue armor who seemed to be having some trouble controlling the steed, if the way it had tried to gobble him up wasn't obvious enough to tell. As things were starting to get on his nerves, he decided to vent a little bit to the brown-haired wyvern rider.
"For gods sake, woman! Your winged friend here could've ripped my head off! One more second and I would've skewered his precious little skull if it wasn't for your shouting!"
Yeah, let's just say that things today were getting on his nerves. Theodore did however stop aiming its bow at the wyvern, knowing conversations usually went better without deadly weapons in between the opposing parties.

Adelaide's head ached from the velocity, though she herself was uninjured. Somebody had been shouting, though it took her a few moments to reconnoiter her thoughts. An odd voice. Not foreign, but unlike one she had heard before. Perhaps it was the intonation, perhaps not. At least, that was the first thing she heard. The first thing she saw was even more bizarre.
She momentarily wondered if somebody had been hunting the gargantuan rabbit and she had disturbed someone's aim, but that theory was quickly refuted when she came eye-to-eye with the rabbit standing upright and pointing a strung bow at her. The device was held with surprising dexterity.
Adelaide blinked, giving a light shake of her head in the process. Her voluminous hair fell unevenly such that it resembled mange by now. For a moment, she could only stare with her mouth open, her heart hammering in her chest. It was a good thing she wasn't in flight, because bows would spell instant death for her otherwise, but the sheer role reversal made her ponder whether or not she was going insane. Some days, it must have felt like it.
She was relieved that the rabbit had lowered the bow before she finally found enough composure to speak.
"I have... so many questions," was all she could manage at first. Then she realized that she had probably scared the living daylights out of him. "Sorry. Erm... Astoria here probably mistook you for a very large rabbit. So did I, admittedly. Actually... what in the heck are you supposed to be?"
Adelaide couldn't have hit her head that hard, could she have?

A surprisingly calm reaction considering she had just seen a giant rabbit turn into a human... Putting back his bow over his shoulder, Theodore let himself gently slide along the side of the rock he had previously climbed. Dusting himself off calmly now that he knew that the woman wouldn't attack him, or at least for now, he looked over to her and said: "You may call me the blacksmith extraordinaire and connaisseur of crafting of all kind. I also like to call myself an aficionado of fashion but that title is still very new considering I've just arrived on this continent days ago."
Realising that this was probably not helping the fact she was already pretty disoriented, Theodore decided to go easy on her and simply tell the truth for once without going through a entire monologue. Chuckling for a bit, he decided to apologise to her: "Eh, I'm truly sorry about that, I have a flair for the theatrics you see? You can simly call me Theodore, or Theo if you prefer, whichever one is easier for you to remember... Ah yes! You wanted to know what I am correct? I'll simply disregard the rude comment this time since you must already have a lot to deal with right now..." After saying that, he walked a bit closer and took off his tophat with one hand to show off is long white fluffy ears to her, a sly grin appearing on his face.
"You see, I hail from Vinland. And as you may or may not have heard..." he then took a jokingly gruff and deep voice: "Big bad scary beastmens live thar! But yes, in all seriousness, oh who am I kidding, that's simply impossible with me, I am a Taguel, specifically of the Rabbit Tribe!
Taking a long bow as if he was in front of royalty, he took a few moments before pulling himself back up and putting back his tophat. Still showing that grin from before, he decided to ask the lady something in return:
"So now that I have so generously presented myself, how about you tell me who you are in exchange?"

Adelaide felt her eyes oscillate between themselves, or so it seemed. This had turned out to be a far more peculiar encounter than she would have ever expected. As the figure prostrated himself before her, removing his top hat to reveal two magnificent white ears in the process. As far the theatrics that the newly-branded Taguel had alluded to, well... those were a blatant understatement.
"I... er... wow." Adelaide managed, still in the process of gathering her composure, trying her best not to mince or splutter her words. "Taguel? Vinland? Am I... dreaming? I've never heard of... wait."
She had recalled, vaguely, a family friend of hers encountering something he had once called a taguel. Or so she thought. She eyed Astoria warily, though perhaps the newcomer was in it for a laugh. It wouldn't be the first time. Astoria emitted a low rumble, but ultimately backed off. At the very least, the wyvern knew when to exercise some modicum of restraint, at the very least. Adelaide had trained her well enough in that regard, at least. Adelaide sighed, drew herself up to full height, then responded more coherently.
"Name's Adelaide. I'm what you might call an aerial mercenary," she said, a rueful smile beginning to crease across her face. "I was out for a ride here, and the rest is history, I s'pose."
She dismounted Astoria at least, then drew herself back up to full standing height, searching for the proper words to say next. There probably wasn't a singular correct set.
"Sorry again for frightening you," she added haphazardly.

"Aerial mercenary eh? I like that title..."
Theodore was happy to see he had landed on somebody who seemed quite interesting. A regular soldier would've definitly been a drag if his image of what a soldier acted like was correct. This one though, Adelaide as she calls herself, she definitely piqued Theo's interest. Though pretty much anybody who was able to keep a conversation going with him would make him find you interesting so for now, it wasn't that big of an accomplishment. As she dismounted her steed, he took a good look at the big scaly beast. It looked... fierce, although more crude insults were coming to his mind after almost getting his tail bit off by the darn thing. As she was apologizing, Theodore raised a hand as to put her at ease:
"No need to fret over it my dear, I am a pretty tasty morsel after all, i mean just look at my perfectly soft ears! No wonder your Astoria took me as an afternoon snack!" he said, keeping his eternally joking attitude.
Laughing due to what he just said, he started to look around, now remembering that the poachers could be closing in on him, especially now that a wyvern had just showed to everybody his location... Crap. Guess if they were near, running away would be pointless, might as well just hope they had forgotten about him. Shaking his head a bit, he got back to his conversation with Adelaide.
"But I am curious though, from what I keep hearing from strangers, Bern has a immensely powerful army of wyvern riders and almost all riders are part of it. Despite that you said you were a mercenary not a soldier. Did I stumble upon a marginal of her society just like myself? Oh, wouldn't that be a pleasant coincidence..."

Adelaide searched the stranger's gleaming eyes for anything even vaguely reminiscent of contempt, but she failed to find any. Her first impression thus far was that Vinland's denizens were truly unpredictable. Here she was giving this colossal rabbit quite a fright, and yet he appeared to be brushing it off as if Adelaide had merely bumped into him. She shot Astoria an accusatory look, but the wyvern appeared blissfully nonplussed. Perhaps the scaly beast was too preoccupied with the fact that it had been robbed of what would potentially have been the largest pot of rabbit stew ever concocted. It didn't help matters that Adelaide was beginning to feel the first pangs of hunger gnawing at her belly.
"I used to be a soldier," Adelaide replied, in a somewhat feeble attempt to change the subject. "We have Elibe's best and largest battalions to be sure, but the life isn't for everyone. Got tired of men hitting on me, you know. I- wait."
She narrowed her eyebrows. Something was nearby, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what. All she could hear was some incessant murmuring issuing from the clotted mass of brambles some seventy paces back. It was as if somebody was eavesdropping; Adelaide's entrance on Astoria had been nothing short of egregious. She would have been pleasantly surprised if she had managed the feat without stirring even a wood louse. The sound was faint, and for a moment, the young rider might have been convinced that there was nothing there. Except murmuring now gave way to rustling; because Adelaide had ceased talking, whoever was hiding in the brambles must have realized they were on the verge of being detected.
"Someone's here. We're being watched," Adelaide murmured, a slight tinge of indignation pinking her cheeks.

Tired of getting hit on? Man, I wish my situation could be as simple. I mean seriously, those poachers give a whole new meaning to "chasing tail".
Suddenly, she seemed to pick up on some strange sounds. Theodore had noticed them for a while but he was impressed a human had such a good sense of hearing. He prefered to mostly not say anything since he hoped she would leave before the paochers would try anything, he really the least amount of people to hear about this whole mess. But as the humans here say: "In a for a penny, in for a pound!" Looking at her, taking an annoyed look as he started to twirl a lock of hair with his index finger, he sighed for a bit before explaining the situation to her:
"Well you see, my dear Adelaide, I wasn't running to stay in shape. Sorry I should've told you sooner but I hoped they'd farther back than this. My beautiful fur apparently sells for quite a pretty penny to you humans, now I'm not saying I disagree not that I don't enjoy the attention, but I did wish it came from more friendly looking folks..."
Hearing more shuffling from the nearby thicket, Theodore took out his bow without even realising, letting his animal instincts do the work. As his pupil dilated for a bit, he concentrated on where the sounds were coming from. From what he could gather, there was probably around five of them, also some horses... three of them, if he truly did hear the footsteps right. It'd be impossible to follow him without one so horses were almost definitly there. Pulling back an arrow as he aligned the shot with the grooves on the bow, the arrow went flying with amazing accuracy. It didn't take long for the sound of a horse falling over being heard. So at least now their ennemies were made up of 3 foot units and 2 mounted ones.
"I'm not one to ask for many favors, but could you find it in your soul to help out a poor little rabbit in need?"
Right after those words, the poachers were already starting to come out of the woods, closing in on them.

"And you just so happened to mention this now?!" Adelaide mused through gritted teeth. "That would have been lovely to hear some two minutes ago. I'm willing to bet they'd be going after poor Astoria too!"
She watched, mouth somewhat agape without her even realizing it, as Theodore brandished his bow again and nocked an arrow. Against all of Adelaide's preemptive expectations, the arrow thocked against a tangible target, and she could hear a rueful whinny issuing from the briars, followed by a dull thump against forest floor. The sound of a horse keeling over, although Adelaide couldn't be sure. The taguel rabbit's ears were far more acutely attuned to the distant sounds, for he had much better hearing. What Adelaide could only pick up distant thrums of probably sounded like a full-blown orchestra to Theo. As for Astoria, she was better at picking up vibrations and changes in tactility. So it was unsurprising when Astoria drew herself up to near-full height, her haunches creased at the ready - she had obviously sensed the approaching horses.
Theo had felled one with a well-placed arrow, but another horseman and likely a few infantry units were attempting to close the gap.
Adelaide sighed. She had to save her own skin in addition to Astoria's. It would be difficult for the wyvern to get airborne in the thick brush, however. It would seem that this battle was to be fought on foot. Cursing silently under her breath, Adelaide plucked her lance from her back and took a couple of paces back so that she was positioned beside Astoria and close to Theo. Four or five enemies rushing at once would be a tricky endeavor.
"Get behind me, Fluffy. This is gonna get messy."

Seeing the two horsemen rush them with two poachers on foot behind them, Theodore noticed that one of them seemed to be staying behind. Was he possibly their leader or was he the one that fell off of his horse when he launched that arrow? Anyways, one less to worry about for now was great. Not only that, but it seemed they weren't going to peper them with arrows from a safe distance, Theo's fur must be worth more if it's kept in its original state which means they'd probably try to knock him out for now, as to not damage the goods, as they say. As they were quickly approaching the three of them, Theodore was still able to send a witty comment to his new acquaintance:
"Fine by me, just make sure to not get in over your head, otherwise who would be there to fall from the sky right behind me... with a wyvern might I add.
Chuckling a little once more, he saw the two horsemen surround the both of them by both standing at opposing edges of an imaginary circle around them. There was still about maybe 30 feet from them, but it was close enough to hear the first poacher speak: "If only you had made this easier. I'd be skinnin' you right about now if you had given up a few hours ago."
"Oh I'm truly sorry, said Theodore, displaying his biggest sarcastic tone, if I had known, I could'be given you a spare I keep around somewhere. Apparently it's great to make quivers you know? Great for holding onto arrows, especially the ones that are going to stick out of your torso now that you sufficiently pissed me off I feel."
"Why you!, The rabbit should keep his mouth shut if he knows what's good for him, you understand?"
Seeing him continue to circle them, he let another arrow fly, sadly however, he missed his target and let another poacher enter their circle of doom, a fast and nimble sword user.. Keeping a hand ready on his own sword if his bow would ever need to be replaced with something more appropriate for the situation, he waited for either one of the horsemen to do something, anything different from right now. Or again getting ready to block any incoming attacks from the myrmidon.

Adelaide felt a distinctive protrusion issue from her brow area in response to Theo's comment, though she had indeed been expecting a foppish retort of that ilk. If only she could win the battle by sheer proclivity with banter! She and Theo would have this little game already set and matched. The latter's bark already seemed louder than his bite, though rabbits typically only bit. Given the peculiarity of the situation that Adelaide had landed herself in, however, she wouldn't have been surprised if Theo did start barking.
Combat was on the horizon. The horsemen, some thirty feet away, were hanging back as a fast, nimble-looking myrmidon brandished a slim sword of fairly common construction and aimed at Theo, who had missed his last shot. Thinking quickly, Adelaide knew that she had no hope of keeping up with this swift swordfighter. But perhaps she could use his own momentum against him.
The myrmidon raised his blade, relying on the prowess of light footwork to deliver power behind the blow. With all her might, Adelaide threw herself sideways, attempting to maneuver herself between the myrmidon and Theo. With her iron lance outstretched, Adelaide planted herself firmly on the ground post-fling. The myrmidon, having too little time to react, could only widen his eyes, his blade still arced threateningly, as the tip of Adelaide's lance plunged into his lower right side. He howled with pain and involuntarily brought his blade down, which Adelaide hadn't considered a reflex. She grimaced as cool metal nicked her right shoulder, causing it to swill with a few drops of blood.
At this, Astoria began to growl menacingly, prompting a couple of poaching stragglers to look up.
Adelaide's face contorted with indignation. "Oh, you'll pay for that one, buddy," she sneered, her shoulder still stinging from the minor injury. It was clear that the myrmidon's injury was more grievous, however, and that allowed ample time for Adelaide to whirl, draw back her lance, and plunge it into his stomach.

Theodore was impressed by Adelaide's strength as she was able to jump all the way in front of him to catch the poacher with the tip of her blade. The stab to his stomach also seemed quite powerful. Alright, she knew how to fight and she knew how to take a hit, Theodore already felt more confidant about this, not that he wasn't... But let's just his 75% turned into a 85% in terms of his odds.
Realising the two men on horses were going too fast for him to properly aim and not simply waste arrows until one struck true, he got down on all fours as he said to Adelaide: "Let this ball of fur take care of this one, I trust you two will be fine on your own?" Suddenly, without waiting any longer, Theodore's concentrated on his inner energy as faint light was able to surround him for an instant. Mere moments after, a giant white rabbit with piercing red eyes appeared onto the battle field. It would've been nearly protocol for him to shout at the top of his lungs to instill fear unto his enemies, but sadly rabbits weren't very talkative. He opted to simply dash towards the hunter on his horse which did seem to do about the same job in terms of intimidation. The horse started sprinting as well to try as he might to run away but Theodore was simply too quick for him, there was no way a horse could surpass Theo's bunny hops.
Deciding that one horse death for today was already going over his quota for animal cruelty, the 900 pound rabbit opted to simply target the archer on top of the horse. Taking a huge lunge in his direction, he was able to dig his claws into the man's flesh and drag him onto the wet forest soil. Despite the human's pathetic attempts at trying to punch him, Theodore was not going to let himself be distracted by something equivalent to a hard slap on the back for his size. Without another second to lose, he bit down on the man's neck, ripping out whatever he had in his mouth. He got back in a regular position, staring down the other horsman, his white face now stained with crimson.

Adelaide's eyes widened as Theodore's form suddenly began to shift before her very eyes, from a human-like species vaguely resembling a rabbit to a full-fledged giant white rabbit with red eyes that appeared to phase and pierce all along the horizon ahead. She marveled as Theodore promptly jumped one of the mounted bow horsemen and reduced the man's neck to little more than ribbons of flesh and sinews of tendon.
The second horseman's eyes widened roughly to the size of miniature dinner plates. He seemed unwilling to fight the monstrous behemoth bunny, so he opted to charge at Adelaide instead with his blade raised. Theo appeared as if he wanted to chase the opponent down before he reached her, but Adelaide waved him down, a competitive smirk compressing her face.
She immediately broke into a sprint backwards, shouting after Astoria, "Now!" - exactly as they had rehearsed so many times before. The wyvern immediately bowed her head, snarling, and Adelaide jumped onto Astoria's back with some effort. The wyvern promptly began batting her wings, disturbing the canopy above, and began to stomp backwards some paces into a small clearing with Adelaide in tow. This was merely to gain traction and room, for in the next instance, the wyvern unfurled her wings and began to bound forward, low to the ground yet airborne enough to glide-pounce.
The horseman without a horse, so deadset on inflicting damage on something, was still charging, heedless of Theo, attempting to spare his life. He quickly attempted to stop and shot a glance into the other direction, back towards Theo, but it was too late: Adelaide, mounted on Astoria, plowed directly into him, her outstretched lance burying itself deep into his neck. Now sufficiently shish-kabobed, the horseman's last moments involved being skewered at the end of a lance, carried by a wyvern rider, whose wyvern was barreling several yards through the trees. Though it took some careful maneuvering, the flashy attempt at a kill had succeeded.
Satisfied, Adelaide shook the corpse off her lance's tip, then promptly dismounted Astoria as she skidded to a halt before any other archers could reconnoiter. Panting, Adelaide shot a glance at the gigantic rabbit.
"I can never resist a good competition," she said between labored breaths. She wouldn't have the stamina to attempt such a feat like that again. Not for a while.

Seeing Adelaide come back down after that exquisite display of spearsmanship, Theo took a step back mentally to assess the situation: right now, Adelaide had taken care of the two foot soldiers. This meant that there was still another horsman and probably their leader hanging back in the thicket, probably armed with some kind of longbow if Theo had to guess. Well, if the leader was this much of a coward, might as well show how screwed he is by killing his last subordinate! Noticing how worn out Adelaide was, he decided to go after the last mounted enemy after saying to her: "Better watch yourself now, wouldn't you to bite of more than you can chew. Anyways, keep your eyes peeled, there's still another one hiding back there." His mouth didn't actually move when saying that, it sounded as if the voice was coming from inside of his body and was being distorted by echo it seemed like.
Sprinting off, he targeted the cavalier like a hawk... Well actually that expression takes a whole different meaning for taguels so really, he targeted him like how a rabbit targets the first spring veggies? Yeah, let's go with that one, ignoring the fact his mouth was covered with blood. The cavalier however, didn't seem to be afraid like his other friend was. Actually, he took out his javelin and decided to take aim. Theodore didn't like this, he was way too much out in the open, he tried to dodge out of the way of the projectile, however the spear was able to penetrate his shoulder and leave a nasty gash on his pristine coat of fur. Well now it's market value has definitely gone down a bit, he thought, angry that he failed to dodge such a slower moving object compared to an arrow. Continuing his sprint despite the sharp pain in his front leg, he reached the poacher as he was about to go in for another stab with a regular spear.
Annoying pests, the lot of them. Ugh, why did humans have to be both interesting and greedy? Oh what am I saying, that disguting side of theirs is exactly what makes them so entertaining to watch! After that reflection, Theodore got on his front legs as he turned around to give the meanest donkey kick to the man on the horse. As he flew off of his mount and directly into the nearest tree, it was obvious he was out of the fight.
