Bern was still recovering after their victory against Ilia and the country in dire need of funds and manpower. Mending what was broken by long occupation of foreign forces hadn't been less difficult than retaking the country. The new council and their "king" Aidan Lowell seemed to work hard everyday to bring the best out of their glorious but bloody rebellion. Aidan's generals, his circle of trust, had occupied most of the important position in this new council to stabilize the government. It was a difficult never-ending work for them. It was a slow progress but the great nation had begun the path toward its former glory.
Unfortunately, many people didn't share the same patriotism of those heroes and seek only their own fortune. To Ilia, they wagged their tails like a loyal dog but those loyalty easily switched when new power arose to fill the empty throne left by retreating Ilia forces. But all of those were only to keep themselves safe. Yes, many nobles and wealthy merchants who knew only of their well-being protected their wealth very well and continued to amass fortune only for themselves despite the country facing economy crisis, agreeing to donating only a meager amount to the new government.
Asri had distanced herself from the court for awhile. She wasn't comfortable with playing country with Aidan and the rest. Rebelling was more fun than governing. Her expertise of unique skills which had helped the rebellion a few times now were turned toward those naughty nobles. Of course she didn't do this for punishing them or something. The crimson-haired thief were as bad as them. She were greedy and self-centered. Her motivation for robbing those rich people were only because she liked having money to live luxurious.
Now, under the cover of the night, Asri stood at the top of a tree watching her next target eagerly. A wealthy merchant called Mathew something was known to amass many notable and expensive collection of jewelries and artifacts in his mansion. Of course it had always been attracting thieves like Asri but the guard were incredibly tight. The merchant had hired a lot of personal guards and some professionals to protect this treasury, resulting in the capture or death of many thieves. Would Asri face the same fate tonight or...?
The mansion was huge with vast garden that always had guards patrolling around. Its tall wall gave the first layer of protection with a lot of guards and their hounds patrolling the garden. The treasury itself was safely located underground the main building, in the center of the mansion, which provided extra layer of protection.
"Now now...lets see..." Asri muttered happily as she opened a parchment. Her eyes skimmed through the map of the mansion drawn on it searching for a weak point. The map itself was a combined result of rough estimates from her weeks of information gathering and facts from her infiltration earlier. "Not easier than usual game, huh? Well, I suppose some shining trinkets worth risking my life..." She felt thrilled by the prospect of breaking. For her, it was just like a game.
Asri was ready. She had done enough preparation. She had brought a set of necessary tools to infiltrate the mansion. Now the cat burglar just needed to get the job done.
