(OoC: page three, nice)
Paranoia was creeping into Thorne. Every passerby suddenly resembled a bandit, every shadow, a cloaked figure. At least the weather was nice, which was more than he could ask for. The fight seemed to be going alright-ish, though Aria’s opponent seemed significantly more of a challenge than the previous one. Chewy seemed to be a lot more exhausted than before, which was worrying. To add to his concerns, the general appeared entirely unaffected, and was already preparing for the second go. Victory was improbable, Thorne decided, but he didn’t give in and began loudly cheering for Aria’s success.
“Chewy! Aria! You can do it! I believe in you!”
Thorne continued cheering until he noticed three individuals to his left. They slowly stalked over to him, faces obscured. Terror seeped into him, as he saw each had a sword sheathed at the hip. Mercenaries, most likely, and three more than Thorne could handle on his own. He stood up, backing towards the jousting grounds. He was dangerously close to his opponents; they had done a remarkable job of evading his attention. Figuring he was better off the closer he was to the crowds, he quickened his backsteps and called out to the pursuers.
“W-what do you want?” Thorne tried his best to seem calm, which was utterly failing.
The man closest to him chuckled. “Well, ‘fraid I can’t tell ya that, lad. Don’t worry - we won’t kill you.” The two mercenaries behind the man drew their blades, cold expressions on their faces. “Really should be coming ‘long with us now, lad. Wouldn’t want’ya to get hurt, now would we?”
Thorne was not having that and promptly dashed towards the crowd. The mercenaries followed suit, at a noticeably faster pace. While he had hoped to lose them in the commotion of the joust, that seemed unlikely given they ran faster than he did. He had a last resort, but it was a really really really last resort, so hopefully it didn’t come to that!

A few tense moments pass, Aria and Chewy couldn't stall much longer. They were forced to make a another round of charges. Aria didn't even realize what had happened. She felt that her lance struck the man's sheild. And then there was pain. Aria got hit real hard. Hard enough that she was nearly flung off. Her whole upper half of her body went limp for a moment. Chewy managed to finish the charge and arch her back forwards, flinging Aria body upwards. The rider slowly pulled herself up on the reigns.
She tried to suck in a breath and went into a terrible fit of coughs. She placed her hand over the spot where the other rider had struck. Her armor sported a new large dent. She would have to hammer it out once everything settled down. She could feel the metal rubbing up against her skin, she knew something was bruised, maybe even fractured. Chewy tilted her head up to look at its rider, she let out a concerned chirp.
"Ugh.. I'm fine. But.. I can't take another blow. Are you okay?"
The wyvern gave itself a shake. Aria sighed. She looked up at the smug bastard on the other end of the arena. She knew she couldn't beat him. He was too experienced.. too strong.. and too well equipped. And as much as she wanted to win but it was not worth the risk of injury or losing her life. Begrudgingly she called over one of the officials and announced she was forfeiting. The offical nodded. He went back to the judges, who agreed, and made the announcement. Aria was out.
She slowly motioned for Chew to make her way out of the Arena. She was escorted out towards an awaiting priest. The bald man used his staff to heal both rider and wyvern. He spoke some words of encouragement but Aria wasn't in the mood to hear it. She did remember to thank the priest before leading Chewy back out towards the audience. She looked around but couldn't find Thorne. Which was a bit of a relief. She liked the lad but didn't quite want to talk to anyone with the fresh wound on her pride.
"He might have gotten called back to work. Come on let's go back to the empty fields. I gotta get this stuff off me and inspect the damage. And you.." She gave Chewy a pat on the neck.
"Need to rest. You did very good out there Chew. You didn't get distracted by tge crowds and you kept your positioning through out the charge. That training back home paid off." She continued to give Chewy more affectiontionate pats.
As she turned around towards the empty fields she caught sight of a small purple blur weaving through the crowds. Followed closely behind by two big burly blocks.
"Hey is that the kid?" She asked Chewy. The wyvern reared herself upright onto her back legs. She let out a half chirp mixed with a roar. Once, the wyvern could see that yes, that was the little snack boy, she let out a much more ferocious roar. Chewy reared herself back down on all fours and spread her wings.
"Woah! woah! No! don't take off! Too many people! We gotta go around the crowd come on!"

Thorne had made significantly more distance on his pursuers than he though he was capable of. His very being seemed to quicken in pace, though perhaps it was just the adrenaline. Small clumps of spectators were nearing him, and eventually passed by in a swift blur. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to get away entirely, and by the time he had made it to the wyvern joust, they were nearly upon him. Running wasn't likely to get him much further, so Thorne used the last of his effort to make a larger gap between himself and the mercenaries. Then, he stopped, turning around to face his two opponents.
Rather surprisingly, they followed suit, and Thorne found himself facing down two hooded figures, both with sturdy-looking blades in hand. The third, most likely the leader, slowly approached the violet-haired child, sword sheathed. The leader had a sort of roguish charm to his demeanor, with long brown hair and noticeably nicer-looking equipment. He stopped just out of arms length, and let out a small chuckle. "You're a rather fast one, eh? Well, no bother, we've got ya now. Come 'ere with me, kid. Promise we won't touch ya; just a little ransom, what'dya say?"
One of the mercenaries seemed distracted, as if they had heard something, but looking around, the crowd seemed to have largely dispersed. That didn't seem right. Weren't there supposed to be people watching Aria's jous- oh wait, Aria! Thorne glanced behind him and was greeted with the sight of Aria & Chewy chatting behind him. Sadly, they were a ways away and looked as if they hadn't noticed him quite yet. Knowing he would be saved if he stalled, Thorne took a step back from the mercenaries. As the leader's hand went to his hilt, Thorne's hand went to his Flux tome.
Nervously, Thorne tried to hold his ground. "B-back away... I've got a t-tome of ancient Elder m-magics, so... you'd b-better stay away..." The mercenaries paused, and the leader even began stepping back. Huh, I didn't think I was *that* good. He'd barely turned around before he was met with a deafening, wonderful roar from Chewy.
Ah.

"Make way! Make way! Move it!" Aria shouted at the top of her lungs. No time to be polite! Just go! The rider was doing her best to keep Chewy in check. The big red wyvern was just itching to run straight at the thugs that were harrassing Thorne. She let out another roar and was stomping around in place. The people slowly started to disperse around her and Chewy made her way slowly towards Thorne and his thugs. Careful. Careful!
"Stop Thieves!" Aria shouted and pointed her finger at the thugs. This got the people's attention. People looked over towards Thorne and his thugs direction and started to talk amongst themselves. When an opening presented itself, Chewy sprinted towards the thugs as fast as her legs could carry her. Aria used her expert handling to make sure Chewy didn't knock down or hurt a single pedestrian along the way. Boxes and carts, maybe not so much. Aria did her best to have Chewy jump over those things. If those thugs knew what was good for them, they would start running. Few things could out run a wyvern with a purpose. Well actually a lot of things could out run a wyvern, but a human was not one of them. Aria took out her lance from it's holder. She was going to do her best to make herself look threatening, even though she had just lost the jousting match. Her spirits were not exactly great, but this little distraction was just what she needed.
"Leave the kid alone!"

The sight of a wyvern catapulting full force at Thorne was mildly terrifying, he decided. He wanted to dive out of the way, though his trust in the duo kept him standing straight. The thugs held their ground, surprisingly, though they seemed hugely uncomfortable. Even the leader appeared sweaty, though he remained composed, even going so far as to draw his weapon in preparation. Thorne was certain Aria could easily deal with them, but apparently the mercenaries believed otherwise. He'd yet to see her in real combat, though from what he'd heard of, wyvern riders tended to be rather skilled in battle.
Unfortunately, while Thorne was distracted watching Chewy, the leader snuck up behind him and put a blade to his chest. Struggling, Thorne let out an "Aghgaahh" as he was captured. "Gotcha now, you little rat. Don't even think o' trying to escape; I'll slit yer throat if I have to, got it?" Thorne stopped struggling and nodded very slowly, sighing internally. Solely he wasn't paying attention, he'd managed to make the conflict a hundred times worse for Aria. I have to get stronger, he decided, for the sake of others if not myself. With their hostage claimed, the thugs relaxed significantly, going so far as to taunt Chewy as the two neared. The leader called out to Aria, still holding a sword to Thorne.
"Aria, is it? We've got a... a package, that I think ya may want, hah." All three of the thugs chuckled to each other. "Except, I'm 'fraid the price is rather costly."

Oh these thugs are bold. Stupid… Stupid… Bold.
“Did you seriously just admit to taking a CHILD HOSTAGE? In front of EVERYONE? IN THE MIDDLE OF A FESTIVAL?” Aria shouted. She raised her arms up towards the crowd of people around them. The people around them were very focused on the actions going on between the three thugs, Thorne, and Aria. And Aria could see from her peripheral vision that the guards or local law enforcement of the land were starting to make their way towards the commotion.
“If your bosses are trying to intimidate me into leaving the joust.. You are too late. I’ve already been eliminated and now this is all for nothing.” Idiots. Aria was really doing her best to keep Chewy in line. The red wyvern was eager to charge straight down at those three jerks. The big red wyvern was snapping her jaws and scraping the ground with her back legs. It was a battle of skill’s between Aria’s handling of Chewy and Chewy’s instinct to attack the threat. And Aria was losing. Chewy Please.. Just calm.. down. She mentally pleaded. Her body was tired from the previous round of jousting, and the bruise she sustained was throbbing under her armor. We’ve fought through worse. Her grip on the reins was tight and her legs and thighs clutched so close to the saddles and Chewy’s body. Stay taught. Don’t lose focus. Can’t show weakness or Chewy will go. Don’t show weakness. Be strong. Be strong.
“LET HIM GO!” Aria shouted again.

The thugs were terrified of Aria, and Chewy even more so. One of the weaker goons seemed skeptical. "Boss, aren't the guard 'posed to be paid off?" "Supposedly, though I ain't gonna risk my neck over it. We need to finish this quick." They talked quickly and in hushed voices. After Aria told them she'd been eliminated from the joust, a second thug snarled at the leader. "She's right, y'know. Why in the hell we'd grab the kid if she'd already lost the joust?" "This isn't about the joust, you idiot. We got what we came for, now we need get out of 'ere." "What d'ya mean, we got what we came for? Thought we were holdin' the boy for ransom. We haven't gotten anything." "You're not in charge here, so will you just shut u-"
"LET HIM GO!"
The lesser two mercenaries whimpered in fright. The leader briefly whispered to Thorne, "Thanks, kid," before addressing Aria. "Alright, alright, we were just gettin' there, I promise. Lower your weapon, calm your wyvern, and we'll send 'im back." Dropping back to a whisper, "Boss! The hell are you doin'? If we send 'im back, we're dead!" "Naw. In the middle of a crowd like this? 'Sides, she's exhausted. The wyvern's a little more worrying, but still, no way she'll set her wyvern on some common mercenaries in the middle of a Wyvern Day festival."
To Thorne, something seemed very off about the whole situation. Who was their employer? What had they gotten that was worth staring down a wyvern?

Aria bit her lip. Calm the wyvern they say.. As if that’s an easy thing to do. Chewy’s got a mind of her own.
“Come on Chew. Easy.. easy.”
Chewy looked up at Aria and let out an angry rasp with a slight hiss.
“Yes. Yes. I know. I KNOW.” Aria spoke to Chewy. And then Chewy let out a slightly low rumble and a different type of gowl. And Aria knew that meant Chewy was probably going to start making a motion to buck Aria off so that she could run up to the thugs.
“WILL YOU JUST LISTEN TO ME DAMN IT.” Aria lowered her head down towards Chewy’s closest ear.
“IF YOU BOLT WE ALL LOSE. THORNE GETS KILLED. THE THUGS GET KILLED. THE CROWDS SEE MURDER. AND I WILL GET ARRESTED. DO YOU WANT THAT?” It was rare that Aria had to be so stern with Chewy. And Aria knew Chewy didn’t understand all of the human language. Chewy wasn’t dumb. No the wyvern was actually pretty smart, it just sometimes acted dumb. Chewy doesn’t quite understand the concept of “looking at the bigger picture”, Chewy was more of an act now, think never kind of wyvern. But, Aria hoped that by explaining it to her in such a serious tone then maybe just maybe the wyvern would understand what the consequences would be.
“SO PRETEND TO CALM DOWN.” Aria then pulled herself upright. And that’s when she saw it. Slowly creeping up behind the thugs, was another wyvern and its rider. But, not just any rider. She squinted and saw the emblem of a general on the rider’s pauldron. The same silver and shimmery armor of the General who had promptly kicked her out of the competition. And if Aria had to hazard a guess he might be their boss. Someone tipped him off of the drama going on, and now he was coming in to clear up this mess. Was he going to reprimand his mooks in the middle of the day with everyone watching? No.. If Aria understood generals.. he was probably trying to sweep in and be a hero in the eyes of the people. The General eyed Aria down from across the field. He made a few hand gestures. This man was using Bernese military code. Aria recognized it immediately.
Aria held her lance above her head and twirling over her palm in semi circles. She made it look like she was trying to threaten or perhaps be fancy with her sheathing. But, she was responding to the General’s gestures. The direction of the semi circles, the amount of circles, determined the answers to the questioning. One semi circle spin clockwise, indicating one hostage. One full spin and a half spin to indicate 3 thugs and once the lance was put away, She rotated her shoulder and held her arm. She made it look like she was setting har arm back in place. But, really she was telling the general that the thugs were “armed”.
“Just.. act like you don’t see anything behind them Chewy.” She leaned down to whisper again.
Chewy seemed to have gotten the message and was trying to calm herself down. Her snarling got a bit less intense. And her back legs stopped thrashing about. But Chewy had her tail firmly on the ground ready to launch just in case anything else were to go down. Aria still kept a tight grip on the reins.
"Alright.. Now see… we are calming down. Don’t harm the hostage!”

While Chewy was calming down, the mercenaries were struggling to even stay still. With the threat of an angry wyvern hung over all three, their stature was shaky and disturbed. The two lower thugs had stopped talked altogether, and seemed to be doing their best to avoid eye contact with Aria or the wyvern. Even the leader had dropped his calm demeanor, loosening his grip on Thorne, slowly lowering his sword... The sword! If he waited just a little longer, perhaps he could escape and leave this whole situation remedied. He bode his time and glanced around, checking for anything else.
It had taken him a while to notice, but a large crowd had formed around the event in a wide oval. Most were silent, though a few seemed to be chatting in hushed tones, and a very rambunctious few appeared to be almost egging Chewy on. All of them kept a very healthy distance from the disturbance, which seemed smart, as Chewy still looked... about as calm as when the duo first arrived. That is to say, not at all. This fact hadn't gone unnoticed to Thorne's captors, who had almost forgotten about his existence. If he could just... slip away...
Suddenly, Aria grabbed her lance and held it up high. The leader retightened his grip on Thorne, though he didn't move the sword back, instead keeping it ready for a fight. However, instead of attacking, Aria began spinning the weapon. Thorne was confused, as soon she put the lance away and then grabbed her arm. This seemed... strange, to say the least, but one of the lesser mercenaries interrupted his thought.
"Uhhh... Boss? You hear that?"

Aria was surprised that the bandits didn’t pick up on her lance work. She was also surprised that they hadn’t heard the noises of the knight creeping up behind them. Could they not hear the subtle klink-klang of the knight’s chain mail, the deep breathing of the wyvern, or the big footsteps of the wyvern coming towards them? Were they truly that dumb? Or were they too focused on trying to keep Thorne within their grasp. Aria wondered.
Don’t ruin it Aria. Keep a straight face. She kept petting Chewy’s head, she even leaned down towards the wyvern’s ear and whispered. “Don’t ruin the surprise Chew.. just relax.” Almost as if on a strange cosmic que, the wyvern behind them let out a roar, and then a deep booming voice behind them spoke up.
“Unhand that child! You scoundrels!”
There was no where for these bandits to run. Aria was in front of them, the other knight was behind them, and from the sides the other knights had finally arrived to quell the commotion. They stood guard near the crowds ready to pounce.
“Give up now and be spared.” The knight behind them spoke again. His lance drawn out and ready to skewer any of the bandits that were foolhardy enough to attack him. For a small moment Aria was happy, that finally, things were getting under control. She decided not to pull out her lance and join in on the intimidation. Chewy however, let out another roar. Which caused the other two wyverns on the side to let out their own roars. It was a wonderful cacophony of wyvern guttural chaos and intimidation. And it’s nearly deafening to anyone who wasn’t a wyvern rider, or wearing earplugs.
“You heard the man. Let him go!”
