Marle gave a light laugh as she watched Syana spin her sword around, admittedly, it was probably a little harder to do with the one hand and with a sword, and she used two hands with the lance. But as that sword came up, she had through about hitting it out of the air, but Marle thought to herself that she couldn't do it.
Instead of following the blade, she watched the mercenary run around her, and made a quick pivot on her feet and threw up her arm and lance, catching the weapon high at the first cross, and then the second, making few movements between the two strikes.
Marle looked at Syana closely, and then with a closed fist, she brought her hand low, and punched at the breastplate of the mercenary, in a motion almost like she meant to aim for the face, but she didn't want to wound the girl with this attack. She was effectively holding the sword and her lance above so she was able to swing and hopefully strike at the openness of Syana's torso

Syana swore silently to herself at her plan failing. It had worked numerous times before, but this girl was smart. She'd have to resort to higher-caliber moves if she wanted the upper-hand, not just flashy distractions. Before she could think of a way out, Marle unleashed her punch. Thinking quickly and knowing she couldn't use her arms in the position she was in, she aimed a kick at the advancing fist. She hoped that if it blocked like planned, she would still be able to keep her balance.

Marle gave a slight wince as her fist impacted on the boot. it wasn't what she had wanted, but she was kind of amazed she could get those long legs up in such a close area, still, Marle pressed her fist against the bottom of the boot, and gave Syana a wicked grin, and then grasped a hold of her ankle. Now the mercenary was only on one leg, balance would prevail from stopping the punch, but would have remained better balance had she kept it on the ground.
With the boot gripped in her hand, Marle began to raise the mercenary's leg high and higher, as high as she could get, and then pushed her backwards with her grip still tight, and moved her leg in to sweep out the other remaining, and hopefully knocking Syana down to the ground, which would also lower her weapon, and follow through to point it at Syana's neck.

Syana fell to the ground, hard, as her sword slipped out of her grip. It embedded in the ground a few inches from her face, as Marle's spear made it's way to her neck. She flinched slightly at it got close, but knew the recruit wouldn't actually go through with it. "I yield," she said. But for once she was not upset at losing. It had been a great bout and if anything she had gained a powerful ally that would only grown stronger.
"Your skills are impressive," she noted as she reached her hand up, hoping Marle would help her to her feet. She looked sideways to her sword and was happy to see no damage had befallen it. She then turned back to Marle and gave her a smile.

Saturos, having witnessed the entire spar, sat up from his vantage point, slowly clapping as he got up. While their inexperience could be seen, Saturos had to hand it to the two: it was a good match. Both fought their hardest.
"Bravo," said the myrmidon, his steps crunching through the early morning dew as he walked towards them. It had been a quiet morning, and now that the grunts and clangs of the battling girls was over, it was a quiet morning once again. "Both of you clearly know how to use your weapons," Saturos nodded at Marle, "and you've gotten much better since that little encounter with the bandits." He stopped next to the red-haired girl, who was still down on the ground, and extended a hand.
"The name's Saturos," he said with a slight bow. "I'm Marle's traveling partner."

Marle quickly pulled the lance back once Syana admitted to defeat, and breathed a huge sigh of relief, wiping sweat from her forehead. Her chest rose and fell with heavy breaths, but she felt...refreshed...At the sound of loud clapping, she looked up and found Saturos there, and narrowed eyes on him, wondering just how long he had watched. Chuckling, she gave a small shake of her head, and dismissed any kind of misgiving thoughts, since she thought he was still sleeping.
"Oh? Well, thank you." Marle gave a dumb smirk and rubbed her nose with a thumb, allowing Saturos to introduce himself. She would have felt odd about introducing the man, just incase he didn't want some to know his name.
Marle gave a once over to her lance, and then chimed in briskly.
"It was a good fight indeed, strong opponents are the key to becoming stronger, so you may overcome them."
She gave herself a pleasing nod and slid off one of her gloves to rub at her eye, allowing the two to get further acquainted while she took to getting sand out of her eye.

Syana gave a little smile. "Syana. And thank you. But it looks like I still have a lot of work to do," she said, brushing some hair out of her face. She took his hand and allowed herself to be pulled to her feet. When she finally got up, she gave a little yelp of pain. Then she realized that when Marle had tripped her, she had accidentally rolled her ankle. She couldn't help but give a little laugh as she held her foot off the ground and balanced on the other. "Just my luck, right?" She grabbed her sword and used it like a crutch for the time being. "Oh well."

Saturos just chuckled a little at Syana's comment. "You're fast, I'll give you that, but you need more than speed and flashy moves to wield a sword," commented the myrmidon, bouncing on the balls of his feet a little and swaying back and forth. "If your footwork is too heavy, moving too fast can actually hurt you." Saturos gestured towards Syana's ankle. "Though, I can see you've just figured that out. You'd be surprised how many injuries can be prevented if you just...flow..." The swordsman slowly spread out his hands to emphasize the word.
Reaching into his pack, Saturos pulled out a wrapping bandage. "Stop moving for a sec," he said, crouching down next to Syana. The swordsman quickly wrapped up the girl's ankle with the deft hands of a man experienced in wrapping sore joints. This was true, of course, as Saturos tended to wrap himself up for just about everything. Cuts, joint pain, broken bones...you name it, he wrapped it.
Standing up, he nodded at his handiwork. "It's a bit stiff, but it should keep you from hurting it anymore," he said. Looking up at Syana, he chuckled. "Really though, throwing your sword? What made you think of that?"

Marle winced a little as she noticed the weakness that Syana had in her leg, and then brought more attention to it in explaining that it may have twisted. Marle looked off and to the side, as she went and rubbed a hand up and down along the back of her head, feeling a bit ashamed, but really, she couldn't have known anything of it.
"And I'm quite the opposite of that...flowing...Saturos is talking about.."
She looked up again and smiled softly to Saturos, this was his lesson, and not hers, but she thought it may have been important.
"When you were running around, you were wasting energy. Since I have armor, I have to be more...conservative, and not excel too much energy into movements, or else, I will get tired out easily. That is why I didn't move a whole lot.."
She grew silent, and when Saturos talked about throwing up her sword in that match, she was a little confused as well, and scratched behind an ear.
"Good question! I almost forgot about that!" Marle gave a small chuckle and shook her head. "I could have clotheslined you or smacked you with my lance while you did that! In a real fight, that may have been real dangerous.."

Syana blushed a little bit and gave a small laugh. "You'd be surprised to know that's worked out quite a few times. It was one of my brother's favorite tricks." She sighed. "But then again I've never really gone up against someone who knows what they're doing."
She leaned on her sword again, looking at the two of them, nodding as they gave little tips and taking it all in. "I guess I could try to be more fluid. I try to calculate everything out before a battle and then when it comes to execution fluidity isn't my main concern." She shrugged. "But look where that's gotten me." Her eyes wandered to her ankle again. "Thanks for wrapping it. And Marle," she said turning to the girl, "Don't worry about it. Accidents happen." She smiled.

Saturos let Marle and Syana talk. He didn't really mind Marle giving Syana a bit of advice, since it was, after all, correct. Movement was a universal concern, whether you fought with a sword, lance, unarmored, or armored.
"There's always some room for flashiness in combat," said Saturos, knowing that Marle knew he himself enjoyed indulging in the more excessive blows. "I know it sounds cliche and all, but you need to treat your sword like it's a part of you, not just a tool," he continued. The swordsman shrugged. "Sure, throwing your sword is distracting, but until you can master general fluidity, it won't work. Your hand needs to just become another joint in your arm, the sword being the end of it."
Saturos drew his sword and held it out in front of him, waving his arm up and down. He held his arm out to keep Syana a good distance away from him. "Watch," he said, before tossing the sword up in the air with a flick of his wrist. The sword spun like a rotor before the myrmidon shot his arm out to catch it, chaining the catch right into an outward slash. He sheathed his sword and turned back to the mercenary girl. "You have to be able to 'feel' the sword, even when it's away from your body," said Saturos in a instructive, but not harsh tone, "as if you're still holding onto it. If you have to pause between the catch and the cut, then you're doing it wrong."

Marle watched intently on Saturos' teaching. She knew she could become fluid with her weapon as well, but a sword, especially a one handed sword, was to be easier to work with. Marle tossed the lance over both her shoulders and slung her arms over them, as awkward as it looked, it was actually a comfortable position.
"Saturos has a way of making things look easier than they really are, from what I remember."
Marle flashed a somewhat knowing smile to the man, and then looked back at Syana and bounced a little in place. She looked like someone just pegged her between the eyes with a pebble as she looked suddenly at Saturos, almost having forgotten the hunt.
"Oh yeah! When is that hunt going to take place? And Syana, do you think your leg will be fit enough to participate?"

The mercenary gave a little nod. "I've been through worse than this." She gave her leg a little shake. "I'll be fine," she said with a reassuring smile. Truth was, she had once fractured a bone in her leg during a mission once and still completed it before seeking out help. A little hunt with only a twisted ankle would be fine. Plus, Saturos had wrapped it, so it was basically like new.
She had to admit, what Marle said was right. Saturos had made that move look very easy and she it was actually quite hard. The swordsman had already impressed her and if by going on this hunt she could learn more, she was all for it.

Saturos put a hand on his chin, not actually knowing when the hunt was going to start. "Actually, I'm not sure," he said, looking around. As he did, Parry came walking out of the inn, throwing his hands up. He had studded leather armor on and wore a large axe slung across his back. "There you guys are!" he exclaimed, jogging over to the three. He jabbed his thumb outside the town gates. "Everyone's gathered outside. They're waiting for you, but they're getting antsy." Ah, that's why it was so quiet. No one was here.
The myrmidon turned to the girls. "Looks like we're leaving now," he said with a grin. "Oh, but first, Parry, this is Syana. I guess she's coming too." Parry nodded. "Pleased to meet you, missy," he said with a grin, but you could see he wasn't in the mood for the meet and greet. "We can talk more later."

Marle gave a sudden blink at Parry. The look of the huge man in armor was kind of what she was used to seeing Knights where, even tough it was smaller, but the man's stature more than made up for the lack of armor. For some reason, she began to chuckle, recalling the man who taught her the lance, now she knew a reason why she liked Parry, he reminded her of him.
"Oh...well, that would make sense..to gather outside town.."
Marle began slipping off the sleeve covering her lance's end, and quickly hoofed it over towards where the gathering was proceeding to be undertaken. Whatever exhaustion she felt from the spar, had quickly been quelled at the news of the gathering.
