Xavier looked at the mage, then at the brute, Sabin, who proceeded to threaten him, without a single remark or thought at his own image. To be called a brute is one thing, to try and reiterate the fact that he was brutish is one that only brutes do.
Looking back at the mage, Aaron, Xavier replied him, slightly hesitantly, "Well, they were the only ones kind enough to look after me... After... I left...", and his voice faded off, with Xavier having an unwillingness to describe his past with his parents.

Sabin raised an eyebrow. "Bandits looking after you? That's odd, for highwaymen." he said, surprised.
He looked at the faces of the others. Xavier seemed tired and sad, grayson seemed extremely dull and Aaron usually seemed unusually quite. Not what you'd expect form a person who was very talkative, at least, Sabin thought so. It was only that newcome, Illyadia, that seemed happy, but Sabin thought that was ovious since he wasn't really fighting alongside them against the highwaymen.
"So then, we'll probably need a watchman for tonight. I'll take first watch, anyone want to take second?" he asked.

"Well, they seemed to have needed a healer in their exploits. Its how this world is like, isn't it? Everyone making use of each other for their greater benefit...", Xavier responded, a sad tinge appearing in his voice, his voice trailing away as well, as the events of the past few months came back to his mind again.
Oh how fickle the human mind was! It never wanted to forget the events that hurt or anger us the most... Yet, it chooses to forget all the happy times spent...

Grayson had finally found the camp once more as he heard Sabin's usual bold tone asking about who will take watch. The archer lightly stepped back into the light of the fire and spoke up, timid at first, but then catching himself and trying to muster up a normal tone.
"Um... I could." he cleared his throat to speak more clearly, " I could stand watch after you if it's alright. It's not like I have anything better to do." plus, Grayson doubted he'd get much sleep that night. Many things were swimming among his mind's waters, making them choppy and unpleasant. He fixed his hair a bit and threw his now ousted torch into the campfire.

So, the troubador had left someplace, and had fallen in with a group of bandits. The mage wondered how many of the brigands which roamed the lands could tell a similar story. Probably a fair few. It was a sad waste of life.
Xavier seemed upset, or saddened by the fact that the bandits had only taken him in because they thought he was useful, but a group of thieves would be one of the last places that Aaron would have looked for charity.
"That's a rather cynical statement, Xavier." The idea that people only did things to get ahead or for their own benefit seemed a foreign one to the mage. "A person's time and effort is valuable. I wouldn't ask them to give it to me freely...."
The mage pulled himself to his feet again, and stretched his back. He was tired, sore, and something was disturbing him. Fable wasn't back either. The silly creature. He was probably gone for good. The horse had never gotten along with magic.
"You're free to stay the night, however, and share our fire." Aaron gave a weak smile towards the healer. It wasn't much, but he'd be safer here.... Unless he planned on starting mischief in the night.
Grayson was back, which made Aaron feel better, and Sabin had volunteered for the first watch tonight. The young hunter seemed distracted though....
Aaron took a few steps away from the fire, and gestured to Sabin to follow him. He stood with his back to the flame, looking out into the rocky slopes surrounding them.

OoC: Sabin, wondering if you still want the support with Xavier. Would be a good bonding time, given how Xavier had joined the group.
BiC: Xavier nodded slowly, seeing immediately that the mage was one of those naive persons who had not seen truly what the world was like out there. But somehow, Xavier felt a more relaxed feeling cross him after the mage had said that.
Xavier moved slightly away from the fire, tied up Ralph to a tree, and began trying to fall asleep beside it, albeit finding it hard to. He tossed and turned, thinking of all the recent events that had led up to where he was now and a tear fell off from his left eye. Why was life like that!?

OOC: Sure do, Xav. I'll start the thread.
"Well kid, if people use you up, use them up at the same time. Or think of it like this. They used you for healing them, and you used them for protection and food. Not the best of excuses, but at least it makes you feel alright for being with them for a while." Sabin said cheerfully.
"Sure Grayson, you can take second watch if you want." Sabin toned down awkwardly here. His voice was not sounding usually normal, somewhat, a little less loud, he guessed? He didn't want to question Grayson though, he felt he was probably the loudest of the lot tonight, it probably wasn't a good idea to keep talking.
And as Aarom motioned to Sabin to come aside, Sabin followed. He had something to talk to him in private.
"You need something from me, Aaron?" Sabin asked quietly, once they went a good distnce away from the camp fire.

Aaron didn't speak all at once. Instead, he took a moment and looked to the axewielder. He didn't even know the man that well, but they'd traveled together for a while now.
"I just wanted you to know that I don't trust our new arrivals. I don't mistrust them, precisely, but....." The mage paused again, and yawned, covering his mouth with the back of his hand. It would take more than a night's rest to recover from today.
"Xavier has been less than forthcoming about where he came from. And Ilyadia could be more than...." DRAT! There was that man/woman issue again!
"It just seems prudent to be watchful. I'm not expecting any trouble, but I plan on not letting it catch me unawares, if it's around."

Sabin chuckled. "Boy Aaron, its a little weird for you to be a little paranoid about Xavier. He's just a child, what possible harm could he do?" he asked.
"Look after Grayson for me, will yeh? He seems to be unusually quite tonight, something must be bothering him." he continued coldly. It was weird how he carried his axe around all the time, but at least he was always on guard. He kept his axe vertically to the ground, resting on it.

"Grayson will be fine, in time. I think." The hunter had been quiet the whole afternoon. Something of a rarity for him. The battle must have taken its toll on him.
"Anyway, I'll admit that Xavier isn't partiularly threatening by himself, but he didn't give much information about himself..., and honestly, he doesn't seem particularly overjoyed to be away from those bandits. I don't think it bothered him that much, traveling with him.... Just be aware." That last bit was a little more cryptic sounding than the mage intended, but it was one of mottos of his life.
"Well, I'm gonna go to bed. I feel like Andorion after he conquered and skinned the Great Beast. Good night, Sabin. Thanks for taking watch."
The mage trudged his way back over to the camp that they'd set up, uncoiled his tattered blue cloak from around his shoulders, and laid himself down on the ground to sleep. His last thoughts were of the fact that he probably would need to get a new cloak soon. This one had too many holes, and burns and such.
OoC: If Doom or Grayson could skip us, that would be fine with me. If not, I'll edit this post to do so.

Grayson nodded as his two comrades complied with his request to take second watch. Ha had figured that he might as well try to get some sleep so he could be useful on said watch so he picked a spot of soft looking grass to lay upon. Wrapping his cloak around himself in a childlike fashion, his mind turned to a rock on the ground that the grass had hidden that was jabbing into his side. He groaned and rolled over to a less soft, but rock free portion of ground. What he wouldn't have given for his bed back at the manor. Or at least a bedroll of some kind.
----- TIIIIIIME SKIP -----
The once black sky was beginning to gain a shade of dark blue as the sun made it's way to meet the party. Grayson stood leaning to one side on a tree trunk. He still had much to think about, but his talk with Aaron the night before had helped him feel a little better about the situation. Sighing, an action he usually performed when he was deep in thought, he stepped out to see if he could get a nice view of the landscape. The crisp early morning air was soothing to his senses, but he knew it wouldn't last long. He needed to get a look at the vale below. Something about it just called to him.
Finally finding the drop off into the valley, he was awestruck by the sight. The mist in the air hung low enough that he was able to see over the top of it and also through it. The thick blanket of dark green tree canopy only made it easier to trace the rivers running along the grass-covered ground. At the end of one such river was a captivating waterfall. Bern, despite it's militant people, really was a beautiful nation.
Grayson took some time to sit and look at the view, practicing his juggling at the same time.

Xavier awoke with a start as sunlight fell onto his face, caused by Ralph waking up and adjusting his position. Xavier had gone back to sleep again last night after a short talk with Sabin on his watch. And while Xavier could still say that he was a little uncomfortable talking with Sabin then, he could also say that Sabin had helped to enable him to clear his thoughts on the matter slightly. The talk had helped to clear Xavier's thoughts a little and had helped him fall asleep without being too overparanoid about the events around him again.
Shaking his head a little to wake himself up truly, Xavier sat up and looked around, seeing that of the rest of the group, only the archer from the day before was awake. The rest of them were sleeping in their respective positions. Xavier stood up, then picked up his staff and made to examine the wound on his left arm.

The morning awoke, bringing the mage to consciousness as well. When Aaron woke up, he stood, ran his hand through his hair, slung his cloak around his shoulders, and immediately looked around the clearing. There was a small city or a large town nearby, and they'd hopefully have a library of some sort.
He was ready to go. Nevermind breakfast! Water could wait. Animals? Pah.... They'd be better off with a brisk paced morning walk than any other sort of care. Talking? They could talk on the road. Sleeping in...? How could you sleep in when there were things to do? Nope it was time to go, as far as Aaron was concerned.
"Everyone ready to go?" He asked out loud. If he'd looked around, and paid attention to some of the still sleeping companions he had, the answer would have been apparent, but Aaron wasn't really feeling himself right now.

Grayson was brought from his fascination with the landscape by Aaron's loud inquiry. It took the archer a bit to realize that he had stopped juggling and that one if his balls, the blue one, was bouncing away from him towards the cliff. Quickly, he leapt toward it, hand outstretched, and grasped it's smooth surface with the tips of his fingers. Noticing that there was no ground beneath his feet, Grayson shot his other arm out and grabbed on to a root sticking out of the cliff face. Fingers finally curled around his ball, he placed it in it's pouch, and hung on the side of the cliff for a few moments, catching his breath.
It didn't take long for the root to begin crumbling. With no water to draw, the thing was obviously not very sturdy. Grayson's eyes darted for a way up. His mind turned to one of the circus tricks he was taught in his adolescence. I really hope I can still do this! He thought to himself. With a might kick at the rocky cliffside, he ricked backwards. He caught himself on a rock that was jutting out of the cliff and pushed off, running along the face of the cliff. The root he held on to twisted and began to give way even more, but the archer didn't feel like falling to his death that morning. He quickly switched hand and deftly spun around and repeated his previous movement, only headed in the opposite direction. This repeated and Grayson, gathering momentum, was able run higher and higher up the cliff.
Finally, the agile archer could see the grass on the top of the cliff at the end of each bit of running. Just in time, too, because the root was about to crumble. With one might push at the end of his final swing, he kicked off and sailed backwards onto the top of the cliff. Grayson landed heavily on the grass, wind knocked form his lungs, but he was safe. Heart pounding and cheast heaving with every breath, Grayson let out a hearty laugh. Or, at least whatever of one he was able to muster.
Breath finally caught, Grayson responded to Aaron.
"I'll be right there!" he called out as loud as he could.

Aaron thought he heard some sort of noise, but when he turned around, he didn't see anything that could have caused any noise of the sort he heard.
Where's Grayson, anyway?
Not seeing anyone else budging, Aaron pulled up a mental image of Bern, and gaged where they were at, where to head, how far the nearest town was.... It was only a few hours away, infact, and the capital was only another 6 hours on foot past it. Perhaps the town was a sort of small, staging ground for the larger city to make use of. Either way, Aaron was getting tired of waiting around. Something was just making his feet want to go.
Turning around again, he heard Grayson respond to him. That was odd.... Grayson hadn't been over there a moment ago, had he? And the purple pompadoured hunter looked like he'd just ran a marathon. The mage headed over there to help the young man up.
"You been running this morning Grayson? I didn't know you did that." Aaron helped pick his friend up, and dust him off. "You're ready to go now, right? Wait, you took that horse from the bandits, didn't you. You're bringing him along, right?"
Aaron's words seemed to tumble out his mouth, and even the green-haired mage started to notice that he was acting a bit off-kilter.
"I'm... uh... Ready to get moving towards the town."
