OOC: Must not... integrate Nera's personality into Caelica's character.... Dx
Caelica stood, grinning at Aleth's rather random reuinion with her parents. She locked eyes with Aleth, and whether it was due to the look on Aleth's face, or just the urge to meet these interesting people she called her parents, Caelica decided to help her new friend. She shook her head and sighed--clumps of snow began to fly around as her legs rapidly began to move her towards Aleth.
Caelica stumbled as she settled herself in front of Aleth's mother and father--she had gone around the two a single time in order to buy a few more seconds to come up with a plan so Aleth could make a smooth exit.
"Ah." For the first time, Caelica got a clear look at Aleth's parents. When her eyes settled on Aleth's mother, her mind went blank for a moment as she began to unconciously admire some odd graceful quality about her. Caelica looked behind her own shoulder, first seeing white hair identical to the one she had seen seconds prior then realizing it belonged to Aleth. The reason of why she had run to that spot reappeared in her mind, and she turned to face Aleth's father.
She recited her introduction in her head before excitedly yelling it out. "Hi there! So you're Aleth's parents huh? Nice to meet you, I guess...I'm Caelica, one of her fellow soldiers." Oh great, Caelica had thought because the introduction didn't come out as planned.

Garnet turned and took a look when he heard the voices gathering. Aleth seemed to be getting a welcome wagon of sorts. It was the last thing Garnet had expected to encounter. And, apparently, the last thing Aleth had wanted to happen, going by her facial reactions.
Right away, he noticed the similarities between the axe woman, and Aleth. Mother and daughter? The other was her father then, by the sounds of it. And this lance wielder. What was her relation? On another line of thought, what would cause the mercenary girl's face to twist up like it had?
Putting on his best stern expression and tone, Garnet moved to Aleth, and faked the role of "large and in charge", disengaging her from the group by resting a hand on her back and physically pushing her away.
"Aleth, a private word with you, if you please." Maintaining a slightly impatient demeanor as he led her a short distance away, he spoke quietly to her as Caelica jumped in front of the white haired mercenary. He just wasn't entirely sure of what to say.
"These are your parents, yet something is bothering you? Do you need me to run them off?" Ordinarily, the thought of what he was suggesting would repulse him, but the instant buildup of tension in the young woman had him overlooking social niceties. He wondered what his Uncle would think of that.... He'd probably approve in this case.
Something felt odd, Garnet realized. As he had led her away, there was no swinging of the right arm. Or, not as much as there should have been. Even with her hiding it under her cloak, he should have been able to feel it's minute shiftings as he pushed her along. Despite the inconsistency, however, he turned his focus back to waiting for his answer, and these new guests.

Aleth was glad when Garnet had lead her to have a discussion. She wasn't sure how, where, when to begin her explanation.
"Its just, I was raised in a mercenary band and..." she began, not sure how to state her problems with her childhood. She wasn't sure what she experienced was even a problem!
~~~
"Aww, darling look, out little girl is forming her own troop," her mother said in a sing song voice.
"Yeah, but are they good enough," her father replied.
"We'll find out..." the pegasus knight stated. With that her father gave the woman a nod and began to push his way over to Aleth.
"Well now, I'm Ephimine, it is nice to meet a colleague of my little girl, take good care of her!" she remarked and in a stealthy charismatic way she began to subtly put an invite to join in a sparring match away from the main group.
~~~
"Hey Aleth, don't forget you owe me some father-daughter time!" he called out, giving her a good smack on the back that caused her to lurch forward. He was as strong as ever.
"Alright, alright, just..." she began before being dragged by her father. He didn't pay much attention to Garnet and simply began to pulling her away.
Then Ligora the pegasus knight went over and to Garnet.
"They're having a family session right now..." she stated in the you're not getting to them without going through me first stance.
It wasn't long before she arrived to a clearing. A thief sat on a box of supplies while an old man with clear sign of experience leaned against a tree. The old man rose his eyebrows and looked over questionably at Aleth.
"Now, you better not have been slacking off..." her father threatened in a jolly tone. She never knew how he managed it though.
"Wait, what are you-!?!" before she could finish, Aleth was slammed hard on the stomach from her father's knee impacting her stomach. In the few seconds of paralysis from the pain, she was grabbed from the back of her collar and thrown forwards into the center of the clearing. She landed hard on the ground, sprawled out.
"That is no position to take!" her father barked!
"Saron, watch out for a red head, I didn't like the way he looked..." he said over to the old man before rushing forward, his blade drawn. Aleth barely made it out of the way before her father plunged the sword into where her had been moments ago. She had to roll to her feet. When she did manage to get up, she thumbled to draw her blade.
"Always be prepared! Don't forget the stance, posture, your surrounding," her father continued, indicating with his blade. She managed to put her sword up in time but the force knocked her off balance but not enough for her to fall on the ground. Then she was slammed by the hilt of the blade onto the ground. She was using her only arm to get off from the ground, letting out heaves of heavy air.
"Get up!"

Aleth didn't really have time to get much out in explanation before they were interupted. Something Garnet had taken her aside to prevent. As she was pulled aside, he waited a moment before flinging caution to the wind and deciding that this was out of line. Parents or not, these people were interfering with their march. That, and the blatant disregard for him, as well as the earlier expression in Aleth's eyes was enough to rile him up. Rile him up quite a bit, in fact. Enough to leave behind his usual calmness.
He turned to go after the pair, and let his disapproval be known, when he noticed a woman standing in his path. He cocked his head slightly as his way was barred by the woman. This was rediculous. Were they intentionally trying to cause trouble?
"They're having a family session right now..."
"There's no time for your little games, scout. We're not just lazing about the town, on a holiday. Move aside." Garnet glowered out at them. They were acting friendly, but also rude.
"Oh come now," She said in a silky smooth voice. She took a few steps closer, absently toying with the lance she was carrying. "Name's Ligora. And, we just wanted to get an idea of who little Aleth is keeping company with.... Hold still for a moment."
BAP!
The red-headed swordsman felt his head snap backwards as he fell back a step. Quickly he reached a hand up to his mouth. The side of his head was ringing from a blow he'd not seen coming, and his hand came away bloody.
Whoops. That looked like that hurt some." She laughed lightly, her brown hair tossing in the light winter breeze. "I guess I could have warned you first. It's more interesting this way though. Makes it easier to get INTO THE FIGHT!"
She yelled the last bit, a clear smile etched into her face as she swung her weapon in a wide arc at the mercenary heroes knee. For his part, he simply dropped lower, and raised the leg that was going to get the impact, taking it on the shin of his boot instead of putting his knee joint in danger. Damn! It still hurt though!
"Don't make me... Aww... Hell. You asked for this..." Garnet's tone started as a stern sound, but ended as more of a gripe. He moved to rip his slim sword from his sheath, but the pegasus knight was faster, she swung her lance around again, smacking his hand before he could draw his weapon. The merc hero's hand exploded into pain, and kept hurting, even as he flailed it around. He didn't even manage to clamp down on the weapon with his good hand before she withdrew it, smile still plastered to her face.
Garnet switched tactics, stepping back, and drawing his short sword. He took a stance leading with an open left hand, and backed up by the slim sword in his right hand. The woman angled her lance point right at Garnet, and he saw the best chance he was going to get.
They moved as one, Garnet stepping in and bringing his sword across, as Ligora thrusted her weapon towards Garnet. Bodily injury didn't seem to be a concern for her. Thankfully, Garnet had had a great deal of experience fighting lancers over the years. His gambit payed off, as he'd expected. He sideslipped the lance strike, deflected it, and grabbed it in one motion, before sliding his blade up the handle.
The smile disappeared from the pegasus knight's face but she managed to twist her weapon to shunt Garnet's sword away from it, while sending a kick into his gut, right under his armor. More than he'd expected from the sky knight. He fell back growling, and trying to recover from the shock of a heeled boot to his solar plexis.
She was definitely talented, and he'd been careless, but she wasn't going to be able to keep this up for long, and there were more ways to win than one. He readied his weapon and got ready to move in again. Enough of this.

"Take care of her? I'm not sure if I'm qualified..." Then in an instant, the scenery around Caelica had changed. She had taken Ephimine's subtle hint and had unconciously followed the woman. They stood facing each other in a slighty open area heavy with the color white --the white was intensified by Ephimine's presence, who was holding something shiny behind her back. Out of nowhere, Ephimine lunged at Caelica, swiping an axe over the girls face--an intentional miss.
"I've heard of aggressive parents, but this...." Caelica said this as her hand instinctively went to her hip.
"I can't just tell some random person to protect my little girl, now that would be irresponsible of me." Ephimine explained.
Caelica peered at her. "So you're chosing now to test me?"
"Its also been a while since I last sparred with someone."
"I guess I need to brush up on my skills too..." As soon as Caelica saw Ephimine tighten the grip she had on her axe, she too fell into a fighting stance. It was a two handed style common in a multitude of Ilian sword users, and with her eyes, Caelica invited Ephimine to attack. She accepted, and the axe began to swing at Caelica with apparent ease. Caelica went and blocked each one, and when she set up to block another, Ephimine stopped.
Ephimine eased her stance, then looked at Caelica. "Caelica? Where did you learn to use the sword?"
"Actually..." Caelica had started to answer, but instantly stopped when she felt a pain in her right arm. Ephimine had struck her on the arm with a weak looking swing. However it was shown that appearances were deceiving as the sword dropped out of Caelica's hands. "Ah geez! That hurt!"
"Remember, never to drop your guard." Ephimine reminded her, this time keeping her stance up.
Caelica took the sword and held it in an odd, mostly one handed position that did not put much strain on the other side of the body.
Ephimine looked intrigued. "Is that a Sacaean fighting style? Can I ask you to teach that to Aleth? She would look so nice using it."
"Uh huh, I'll get around to it sometime." Caelica said passively as she took the opprotunity to attack Ephimine while she was examining the fighting style--while her guard was down.

Aleth pushed up from her spot, using her sword as a tool for balance. As always he wasn't taking any prisoner. Her eyes focused onto his father, taking in what she could from his form. It appeared that she recognized to some extent even after so many years absent of sparring with him. There were only a few ways to break his guard but she wasn't confident enough with just the one arm of hers.
After she had gotten up from her spot she changed her stance. She used her blade to balance herself out so that she wasn't lopsided due to her missing arm. This obviously got a raised eyebrow from her father.
"Well that's an interesting stance, at least you don't look like you're gonna fall over anytime soon," he stated with a shrug of his shoulders. He was coming... As Aleth predicted her father rushed at her with the blade ready to tear at her. Was he always slow like this? With such a thought she parried his blow and riposted with her sword. It managed to nick the corner of his throat. She didn't have enough strength to do a better jab.
"Hmm? Did you learn fencing or something? I don't believe any of taught you how to do that... Maybe you did learn something in your travels!" her father remarked with a smile on his face. It almost looked like he was proud of her or something...
"But it isn't enough to keep me down," he continued, his smile disappearing as he smacked Aleth's sword out of the way. As he did so, Aleth jumped backwards out of the way of another swing that appeared to come out of nowhere. He seemed to be half playing and half serious about the whole match.
"Shut it old man," she said with a pained grin. Her body was in total and utter pain from the strikes in the beginning. She swore that her head was still spinning a little from a concussion. It seemed to be a minor threat compared to a sword aimed for the heart.
"I think you're a little rusty..." she stated with a smug tone and appearance. This obviously aggravated him enough for him to charge forward but this time far quicker than before. She ducked from a hit aimed to cut off her head but soon found a knee aimed for her stomach again. This time she was ready, her sword taking most of the shock but she still ended up doubling over onto the snow. Before she could get up her father was on top of her and an elbow aimed at her stomach. Managed to move as to avoid the hit but it managed to slam into her right side.
Pain shook through her body again but mainly to where she heard a crack in her ribs. It was only one of the ribs though and luckily it wasn't all that bad, it wasn't puncturing any of her internal organs at least. Perhaps it was a fracture. Before long she was scooting backwards and lifting herself from her spot. Her face was in obvious pain and sweat was perspiring throughout her body. She had a clenched smile her right eye closed in pain.
"I'll ******************************************!" she warned him finding the curses easily rolling out of her mouth.
"Your mom wouldn't be happy to hear this..." her father replied, looking more worried about her curses than her pain.
"Where do you think I got it from?" she retorted pinning her foul mouth on her father.

Ligora looked him over again, before speaking, her voice silky smooth.
" Well..., you're turning out to be quite a pain. I like it. You're good enough to be a challenge, but I'm still quite able to dish out some suffering. It's good for you, and I certainly enjoy it."
She punctuated her sentence with a quick slap of the sword, before reversing it in the other direction as well. She withdrew as Garnet blocked the first blow, and deflected the second. This disgusted the Red-headed swordsman. And it was wasting time as well.
"Not quite as much fun as hitting Aleth, but I'm not going to interupt their little party."
She swung again, angling the point to catch Garnet if he attempted to intercept it. Except, Garnet decided to ignore the rules. The actions all happened to quickly to follow. He stopped the spear with his shortsword, grabbed the haft just under the point with his left hand. He stooped to the ground as he lunged in, dropping his sword, and gathering a handful of the wet snow around them and slinging it into her face. As she tried to reel back out of reach, the hero shoved the spear away from him with the hand gripping him, and pulled her towards him with the hand he'd thrown the snow with. It didn't take much to clamp down and crush her against him, driving the air out of her lungs. Less to pick her up as he started to turn quickly. He could feel her trying to hit him in the kidneys through his wvyvern leather coat, but only barely.
Picking up on his turning speed, he opened up, and flung her out of his grip. She hit the ground running, albeit wobbly, but couldn't stop herself from hitting a pair of barrels, and flipping over them.
At the sound of a groan, he circled the barrels, and saw her laying on her back. She looked stunned. Couldn't seem to quite get her arms and legs moving right, though she was trying. Just to spite her, as he moved away, He kicked one of the barrels over on top of her as he left, eliciting another groan.
"Hope you had fun." Now... Where was that surly old swordsman, anyway.
Garnet spotted Aleth fighting, and immediately could tell she was in pain. She was missing an arm too... but, that wasn't fresh.... Somehow, she'd hidden that from them all the day before. And still impressed him with her swordsmanship. It took him a few seconds to cope with this, as he made his way towards them. Her father was being brutal towards her. Before he could get close enough to insert himself though, yet another someone positioned himself in the way.
It was an old man. But more than just that. He walked in a way that told Garnet to be wary. The more the redhead looked, the more Garnet saw how tough and wiry this person in his way was.
They sized each other up.
"You must be the red-head that Aleth's father mentioned."
Garnet's suspicions began to build that there was going to be yet another fight happening in a moment.
"Step aside old man."
"He said he didn't like the look of you.... I can't say I like you any better."
Garnet frowned and slung his shield off his back, while readying his sword. The movements seemed to be like a trigger, because suddenly the old man was surging forward, pushing Garnet back with his swift strokes. Small nicks were forming in his coat where the blade got through. They didn't cut completely through the material, but they were enough to let Garnet know he needed to kick it up a notch or be completely outclassed. The next few blows glanced off his sword and shield on either side, before a stroke came straight up the center, and glanced away from the breastplate on his chest. If that hadn't been there, he could have been dead. Garnet broke away, trying to figure what to do to survive long enough to win.
"Hmm.... At least your armor seems well crafted. I'm not convinced you should be facing opponents like myself, or the girl's father yet. Oh well.... There's a time for everything."
And with that, another flurry of blows started, and Garnet was forced to look to defending himself again.

Selibas slipped past Garnet fighting an older man. Something had been...strange, about the white haired girl. He didn't know how safe she'd be. He saw her fighting her father. Then out of the blue, an apple hit Selibas in the right ear. He turned to the right to see what happened, when he was punched in the left side of his ribs. He fell. Hard. As he looked up he saw a small man twirling a knife in his fingers, with a sword in his left hand. The man sheathed his knife then took a stance, "So, a Sacaen? Let us see how move you fast."
The man spoke strange, and with a thick accent Selibas had never heard. Selibas stood anyway, pulling out his trusty Ostian cavalry sword. The man wasted no time, he darted in and flicked his sword back so that its edge touched his elbow. He easily dodged Selibas' first blow, the slashed Selibas' shoulder. "Tisk tisk tisk, you're slow to much." Selibas grimaced, then slashed at the mans thigh, cutting him, but barely. Selibas prepared an over his head strike. As the slim sword hit the dirt where the agile man had been, the man stomped down on it making Selibas loose his grip on the hilt.
Selibas quickly jumped back actually managing to dodge a blow, then springing his iron sword out of its scabbard savagely to block a blow. He slashed at the mans stomach, then slashed where he anticipated the man would dodge to, scoring a satisfying blow on the mans shoulder. The man got serious quickly and danced in spinning so that his shoulder blades touched Selibas' chest armor. He cut Selibas, stomach, leg, and cheek while turning, and used his right free hand to empty Selibas' hand of his sword.
Selibas quickly pushed the man away from him, realizing he had been cut twice more on his stomach in the shape of an x. Selibas was growing angry, but weak. Then the tip of the iceberg surfaced. The man said, "I know of you, Selibas Chief. Little Wolf called by ones who know you. How fitting, thief of common beating Sacaen of nobility." Selibas got angry then, not feral bu angry. He charged in unsheathing Epeeciel as he went. He rammed them man with his shoulder, but as the man reeled back, Selibas was left with the small knife leaving a shrieking pain in said shoulder.
Selibas' back straightened. His eyes grew angry, and his shoulders heaved. Epeeciel got a hell of a lot lighter. Selibas growled and went feral.

Ephimine's reflexes were quick, maybe she had even expected Caelica's attack. Her axe was up,ready to block Caelica's sword which hit the wooden handle and created a nick in the wood. Caelica's sword was up in an instant due to the use of the quick one handed style, and it swooped back down to contact the wood just as quickly. The process repeated over and over, too quick for Ephimine to lower her weapon and make a counter attack.
The individual strikes from Caelica were weak, but they eventually built up to thin an area in the middle of the wooden handle. Finally confident that she could break the axe--and being rather tired--Caelica brought down the sword one final time using both of her hands. The axe snapped in two, and Ephimine lowered her arms, each half of the now broken axe dropping from her firm grip.
"Made me...do all that work...So did I score an A on your test?" Caelica panted.
Ephimine smiled. Her smile was soothing, unlike the crude axe at her feet. "Mmhm, you'll make nice friend for Aleth."
Caelica picked up her sword and put it back in it's sheathe as the two began to walk back towards the group. "Friend, huh? Well I guess we should go check up on Aleth, your husband seemed kinda rough with her."

Aleth got another punch to the stomach that sent her backwards onto the ground...hard. She cough up blood this time and the broken bone of hers just got a whole lot worse. She couldn't help but quickly get back up on her feet out of fear of being killed. She wasn't about to let her father outdo her.
Soon enough they were clinging blades again. Her father was overpowering her when they were pushing against one another. That was to be expected though and she had to deal with it, quickly returning light blows as to weaken her father in any way possible. At the first opening she made for a kill, he barely diverted her blade but it did manage to cut his side.
"Alright...alright...you win, I lost." he said, giving up in a joking way.
"I really wonder that! I nick you on the side and you break one of my rib!?! Is this a win?" she asked, keeling over in pain now that the immediate threat was over. Her father shrugged...
"Alright, loosen up everyone, we about to move out, no time to play for too long." he simply shrugged losing complete interest in Aleth.

The rain of blows continued at Garnet, glancing off his shield on one side, and off his slim sword on the other. They began to slow slightly though as Garnet fell back, and the red-headed swordsman began to notice an odd pattern of movements. As if the old swordmaster was starting to hold back now. It didn't stop Garnet, who started retaliating with a fury.
The exchange of blows being traded continued to shift back and forth until finally, the old man broke away, and lifted his hand to stop Garnet from rushing him.
"Stop! Stop. It was a good fight, but the idea of putting a mark on such a handsome face as yours... I can't bear to go on.
Garnet raised an eyebrow at this. Was this man teasing him, or just crazy? By the Saint! What if he meant it!.... If he meant it, then that would just be too bad. Unwilling to stop, Garnet prepared to move forward and strike, when he caught himself. The swordmaster.... The old man was already putting his weapon away. The mercenary hero was disgusted by this. How was he supposed to finish this fight now?
" Yep... Yep.... You should have plenty more years of great conquests and companionship, if you take care of yourself. Just like I did! Too bad we're moving out now, or I'd show you a few things
Oh... This was unbelievable.... "I don't want your health tips old man!" Garnet was practically spitting in disgust with his speech. He raised his voice to carry farther, to where he could see Aleth's father already walking away.
"I want compensation from you! Compensation to pay for Aleth's injuries!" Garnet's own collection of nicks, scrapes, and bruises were nearly forgotten at the moment. Memory of them would return soon though.
Garnet approached the spot where Aleth had collapsed on the ground.
"Aleth, are you- You look like you got used for a wyvern's plaything...." She just looked to be in bad shape all around.

Marle had been...preoccupied of late with the organization of her materials, off checking the totes and saddle bags doubly. They were a small force, only a few soldiers with a few more mercenaries, and who knew how long they'd be gone. Ilia was not like Lycia, settlements were sparse, but big. The young General was on her way back, having witnessed the end of the fighting, but fighting enough it was. With arms crossed, she stood tapping her foot. She had probably not even been noticed with these...festivities?
"And what the hell is going on here?"
This was not the time for her troops to be throwing punches and swinging swords. Not just before a march. Resting a heavy armored hand on the hilt of her new sword, she strode up, the embroidered cloth trailing just behind her legs flapping with the wind that her movements gave it.
Looking first to Garnet, then Aleth, then the two new, but older, pair. They looked experienced. Marle could tell right away, and what little she had witnessed backed it up
"Assaulting my hired soldiers? Some nerve, who are you to interfere with the matters of Ilian Army?"

Using prior knowledge gained from how they'd simply ignored him before, Garnet moved again, to position himself to block the group. He pulled the great two-hander from across his back, and planted its tip in the icy ground, before resting a hand on the hand guard and leaning on it. They wouldn't be able to simply ignore the speaker this time.... Damn... Those sword strokes would leave bruising for sure, and some of them may have even nipped through sleeves, and into the skin.
"They say their Aleth's family, Captain." Garnet "And they do seem to have a certain disregard for others." The expression on the hero's face was not happy, and his hand drummed anxiously with frustration. Even so, he was going to follow Marle's lead, now that she'd arrived. Unless he thought things needed a little proactive help, at least.

Caelica turned her head to look at the source of the yelling she had heard. However all the yelling had ceased, and all she saw was Garnet, staring at the ground. Caelica ran towards Garnet, leaving Ephimine to take her spot next to her husband.
"Well gosh, it looks like I was the lucky one, huh?" Caelica said as she examined Garnet's injuries. She took a look at herself, pulling up her sleeve and noticing that there were multiple bruises on her arm. She had only felt a single hit while fighting, but that now seemed to not be the case.
"So where's Aleth?" Caelica asked, taking a step forward. Her foot hit something soft, and she jumped back when she noticed she bumped into Aleth. When she was looking at Garnet earlier, she had only seen Aleth's white hair, which blended in with the snow. "Aleth! Your dad being kinda rough with you was a little bit of an understatement then..." She offered to help Aleth up and help her stand as Garnet ran over to block Aleth's parent's group.
"This might get noisy..." She said to Aleth. "I think I'll just watch from here with you."

Aleth was terrified when her mother had entered the stage... Her mother was usually far more rough with her but she did relax when it seemed as though she wasn't interested in "testing" her. Garnet and Caelica seemed to have gotten it off pretty easy compared to her... She lifted herself off from her spot to approach Marle as she got up she heard a distinct crack from her ribs that she swore that anyone in the near vicinity could hear. Yeah that was her rib giving out even more...
"Sorry Marle, my parents like to do what they want and they didn't mean any harm by it," she said in her usual charismatic smile but she knew her pain caused her sweat a bit.
"This was mainly to see if our daughter was in good thats all general, sorry if it cost you any problem we'll be happy to pay for any medical expenses," her mother spoke her sporting a similar smile with utmost sincerity. Aleth knew better...she had the same smile when she abandoned her in the middle of nowhere in Illia to find her own way back to a TRAVELLING caravan!!
"I got a tough body but the others need to get checked on first, I can wait..." she said knowing that her damages were probably heavier compared to the others. When she finished her body responded by spewing blood out from her mouth which she caught with her only arm.
"Fine... I don't want to be any trouble... I've had much worse time after all."
