"Ignite", spoke Bee as she snapped her fingers. Suddenly the air shimmered and compressed then in a violent manner it exploded into a rose of burning flames. The book Volcanon shinned like the morning star as Bee drew upon its mystical power. Taking control of her power Bee began to make the flames dance in the air. They took shapes and forms that were unnatural to fire and resembled the form of a human. Using her little puppets of flames Bee began to make them dance in the air in front of her. One figure clutching onto the other swinging around the air as if they were dancing in a ball room. The entire time while they performed there dance Bee's eyes stared at her two dolls of flames so intensely. Keeping the shape was difficult and at the same time she was mesmerized by the very sight of flames. Bee's little figures continued there dance for another then minutes before Bee finally lost her concentration and the two flaming figures melded into a single ball of fire.
"Drats", spoke Bee to herself as she bit down on her lip. It seemed that she had reached her limit again. Believe it or not the maiden was not simply playing with fire, thought she often did that. This time however she was training. Her focus was more on fine tune manipulation of volcanon rather than explosive burst of flames. She had been doing the explosive bit all throughout her journey on the mainland, but it was starting to dawn on her that such simple use of fire would not be enough to defeat her future opponent. Dark magic had a advantage over anima. She was going to need a new trick up her seleve if she was ever going to defeat that Druid. With that in mind she left the mainland and came Hurtlepool.
The place was already known as a haven for training. It would probe a perfect place for her to hone her skills, or at least Bee thought. Once she got here Bee was a bit demoralized. The lone trip at sea to get to Vinland was draining enough and the trek to Hurtlepool was also tiring. Combine that with homesickness and you find a hard place to actually train. However Bee was resilient. She rallied herself and began to pour her thoughts towards increasing her versatility in battle. Though her training took her in weird directions, aka the dancing fire people.
"Hey Bee", shouted three voices in unison. The maiden turned away from her own fustration at her limits and looked back down over the high walls. Standing near the bottom of the tower were three nearly identical orange haired faces. Faces that Bee knew far to well. Shu, Wu, and Wei, the blacksmithing trio that had sailed over with her from the mainland. The four of them got off on a good foot on the ship, and once they reached Hurtlepool there friendship grew even more. They were the only people that Bee really knew and as a result she began to hand around them more often than others.
"I will be right down", yelled Bee from atop the wall. The young maiden did not even wait for a response from them. She hopped up from the ledge and jumped back down onto the walk way. A few gaurdsmen gave her a wave, they were not so nice to each other the first time Bee came up here, and the maiden headed over to the nearest tower. Making her way down the spiraling staircase Bee meet the triples at the base of the tower.
"Hey Bee lets go get some Parougie", spoke the Wei.
"No we should get some Beef stew", shouted Wu.
"As you can see ...", spoke Shu before Bee cut him off.
"You all need me to be the tie breaker", spoke Bee. The maiden gave off a sigh and looked over at Shu. The young man was chuckling about the entire ordeal. This was not the first time they had dragged Bee into there sibling arguments and he was sure it would not be the last.
"By the way my choice is fish on a stick", spoke Shu adding his choice into Bee's options.
"Eww", spoke Wei and Wu both. They hated fish on a stick. It was so plain. There was nothing special about it. After a long and hot day on the forge one would want something that made you feel like you earned it for your hard work, but not Shu. He was always so simple. He just wanted some fish with a stick stuck though it and cooked over a open fire.
"Hmm", spoke Bee as she touched her chin and acted as if she was thinking on her choice. In truth she had already decided from the moment she walked up to the trio. However she needed to make it look fair enough or the three of them would leave her out of it next time. She often enjoyed seeing them argue and the taste of free food. "Fish on a stick", she spoke with a sly smile as she looked at Shu.
"Yes", shouted Shu as he brought his fist down in a victory pose.
"Oh come on", shouted Wei, but Wu simply gave up. Last time Bee had chosen his dish so he had no reason to complain this time. Still he had already had the taste of Beef Stew in his mouth. Maybe they could order some on the side.
"Your turn to pay Wei", spoke Shu as a wide grin crossed his face. The quartet had left the wall and were making there way toward the center of the town. There were a few shops there, but the one Shu had in mind was a bit hard to find. As a result Shu was leading the charge triumphantly and boldly. Wei was lagging behind, upset he had to pay for food he really did not like. Wu and Bee were talking about magical weapons. Bee had heard a lot about them from her master, but she herself had never forged one. Wei had read a manual on the techniques used during the process and was sharing its secrete to the maiden.

How had she gotten herself here, to Hurtlepool, on the far-off island of Vinland?
Lydia didn't really understand it. All she knew was that there had been a series of mishaps, which had lead to her traveling much farther across the ocean than she had intended, and had finished with her landing on an island, which was most certainly not Caledonia of the Western Isles. The pupil, far out of her league, had spent time wandering the port where she had arrived, and finally decided to make her way with a caravan heading to "Hurtlepool" for lack of anything else to do. After all, it would be a little bit before a boat going back would arrive, and she needed coin to pay for passage anyway.
What she learned along the way was that Vinland was a largely unexplored wilderness, full of strange beasts, shadowy natives, and speckled with adventurers seeking their fortune. Hurtlepool was apparently a hub of people who sought to train themselves and improve their combat skills.
The lake town was an interesting experience for Lydia, who took the opportunity to visit apothecaries in hastily constructed shops, mapmakers with their alien looking scrawls of contours and rivers, and saloons, where men boasted of women with rabbits' ears and huge vaults of hidden treasures. It was an amazing, vibrant place.
The pupil, deep in thought, then ran straight into someone. Lydia fell backwards, stumbling and catching herself before standing to confront whoever had bumped into her, an aggrieved expression on her face. She then saw not one but three of the same person, and one young girl with them. Her eyebrows raised as she saw the triplets and the girl, and she gave an almost involuntary chuckle of surprise.
"Sorry. Didn't see you there... Whichever one of you I ran into."

"Pick Pocket" shouted Shu as a young maiden ran into him! The young blacksmith had expected this to happen for quite some time now. Three days ago he had scene a man get pick pocketed by a small child and just the day before he witness a old women do it to some burly man. He knew he would be next. He was far too prime a target. A young orange hair triplet in a city of muscle heads and beef cakes, who would not rob him.
"Hold your horses", shouted Bee! The young maiden was now annoyed with Shu. First off it was as much his fault as the young girl that the two of them ran into each other. Shu was not looking as much as she was. Second you don't just go yelling out pick pocket just because somebody bumped into you. Shu had not even checked his coin purse. He just assumed that he was being robbed just because somebody crashed into him. The little fool, thought Bee to herself. She knew that Shu would end up getting somebody in a really bad situation one day.
"She is right Shu", spoke Wei breaking from his conversation with Bee. "Your coin purse is still attached to your belt", he spoke as he pointed toward the tan leather pouch.
"Oh it is", spoke Shu with delight as he touched his coin purse. He could care less at the moment that he had just slandered the name of the young lady standing before him. He just wanted to be sure that all his coin was still in it. He had worked hard for that gold after all.
"Sorry about that", spoke Wu as he walked up to the maiden and offered her a hand. "My brother can be a bit fool hardy at times."
"By the way it was Shu, who you ran into", spoke Bee picking up the maiden's question. "Though I am sure you can't tell them apart. It took me three mouths to figure out one of them. The other two took a lot longer than there other identical brother.
"Sorry about that miss", spoke Shu as he jumped back up onto his feet. With his coin purse still full and his balance regained Shu was ready for that meal now. There was no way he was going to let Wei sneak out of paying. "However we should be off before ..."
"Is that a spell tome", spoke Bee looking at the young maiden. At this point she had developed a slight affinity toward magic. She had sen so many spell tomes on her adventures. Bee was expecting to see a trinity tome or some higher level anima magic. To her great surprise however the maiden was practicing in the dark arts. Her black tome spoke of the darkest of magic and the thought of its dark power sent a cold shiver down her spine. She had seen dark magic at its height, or at least she thought it was. The druid that she use to follow around... well that was not important at the moment.
"Oh so you are a mage like Bee", spoke Wuu suddenly. A blush had crossed his face and the young man suddenly began to take interest in the grounded maiden. At first Bee did not catch on, but it was starting to dawn on her bit by bit.

Lydia was baffled for a moment as accusations and apologies flew at her in rapid succession, and then the torrent of words about triplets and ‘shoes’ and leaving before something. She made no attempt to speak or do much besides stand up and begin to collect her belongings, and was finishing putting everything away when the girl spoke suddenly, abruptly, looking at Lydia’s book of Elder magic.
The pupil picked up her tome, holding it firmly and with an odd sense of peace and pride.
“Yes. This is my tome, from which I study the Elder Arts. I seek to perfect my power, increase my strength, and improve my control over the great power of the Nether.”
The young magician gave a small smile to Bee, continuing her introduction.
“I am Lydia, student of the Elder Arts and self-taught scientist. I seek to become a powerful practitioner of magic and to make scientific discoveries that will change the world. Already I have made advances in the field of poisons and antitoxins – currently I am working to develop a universal antitoxin that will negate the effects of monster poison and venom.
And you? I take it you are also a mage. What is your school? What is your style?”
The young mage was actually interested in someone she had met, which was a rarity. Most times, she preferred to keep to herself, stay out of the center of attention, and work on her experiments or her magic. She didn’t really think of herself as much of a social person, and she certainly had never spoken with a girl and triplets before. They seemed a pretty merry band. Were they related at all?

"A scientist", spoke Wu with curiosity. He had heard of scientist and he had meet a few alchemist, but he never really actually meet one. Blacksmithing could be called a science, but Wu had always seen it as more of a art. He did not understand the ways of science and the process of inducing chemical change upon the metal he worked. He looked to the color of the flames, the heat of the metal, and the wisdom of his elders for direction. Science had no place in his world, but yet he practiced it every day.
"Hmm, so all people who use the black book are scientist", spoke Wei as he rubbed his chin mimicking a old man. He knew a bit about magic. He understood that knowledge was the key to there power and not the strength of ones arm. Though he questioned that entire idea since he meet Bee. She was smart sure, but not that smart. Yet she seemed a decent mage. Maybe it was creativity that drove the power of magic and not simply knowledge.
"Alright hold your horses", spoke Bee to the two of them. "She asked me the question remember. Anyway", shouted the maiden as she turned her focus on the young pupil. "From one practitioner of magic to another I shall give you a proper introduction. My name is Bee. It is spelled B E E. Just like the insect, but minus the stinging. I am not a simple mage, nor am I a pupil. I am a pyromancer. One of the few people i this world smart enough to see the glories of fire and devote themselves to it study completely", spoke Bee. A smug grin crossed her face as she told of her profession. Her only true regret at the moment was that her hair was not sticking up like it use to. Since she came here she had stopped using her gel and was forced to simply let it be, no puns intended. If she had her gel. Now she was sure that would have been a epic moment.
"So, wait", spoke Shu as he looked at Bee. "Does that mean your not a blacksmith?"
"What", spoke Bee with confusion as she looked at Shu.
"OH!" shouted Wu as if his pants had caught on fire. "Shu is right. You are not a blacksmith then!"
"What kind of stupid is this", spoke Bee as she looked at the two with confusion. "Of course I am a blacksmith. I forge metal with the hammer and warp metal to my will."
"Wait, but you just said you are a pyromancer", spoke Wei. "How can you be both a pyromancer and a blacksmith."
"He is right!", shouted Shu.
"You can't be both", shouted Wu!
"Chose one Bee", spoke Wei as a serious expression rolled over his face. "One can not serve tow masters. You must devote yourself to the flames or the anvil. If you do not ..."
"Anyway", spoke Bee cutting off her three orange headed friends off. "I am a mage who specialize in fire magic. My studies bring me to understand the nature of heat and flame and how it can best be used in both combat and real world settings. Also the way the fires dance in the air is beautiful", spoke Bee as a small blush crossed her face.

All people who used the black book were scientists? Lydia was a little confused. It almost seemed to her like the three orange-haired boys communicated nonverbally with each other, and took turns speaking, continuing on each other’s trains of thought. It was like a hive mind. But that was impossible… Perhaps it was just that they had grown up together and so knew each other very well. That was more likely, although the concept of a human hive mind interested Lydia. It would be like Bonewalkers, really, but probably a bit more effective. Perhaps like a squadron of Wights. Now that would be a frightening concept. Perhaps that was why a human hive mind did not exist – it would destroy itself due to all the conflicting information and interests.
As the mage, Bee, introduced herself, Lydia gave a nod of acceptance and acknowledgement. So Bee studied Anima magic, the magic of nature, and focused on manipulating and calling upon fire. That was interesting, and certainly admirable in its own way. She sought to perfect her skills in one area, as opposed to Lydia, who wished to learn a great breadth of knowledge.
And then the orange-haired triplets did another tag-team speech, which again dazzled Lydia with their smooth, effortless manner of passing off the phrase to the next in line. It was too good to be true, really. She’d never seen anything like it before, and doubted she ever would again.
“I can understand your love for the beauty of flickering flames. I too love my magic, but I am drawn to the allure of the Nether, to the silence of the void and the deep, inky blackness of the dark tendrils that writhe and twist under my command, yet of their own indestructible will. I love the feeling that the Nether gives me – that blank, reassuring feeling, that sensation of living death, the numbness of pain and the salvation of selling your soul to the power without limits.”
Lydia smiled, an odd, far-off smile that seemed to be true and clean, a pretty smile. She was momentarily lost in thought as she contemplated the Nether, but then looked at Bee and asked a question of her own.
“So how long have you studied the magic of fire? And what brings you here, to this wild island?”

"Tendrils", spoke Wu leaving the thought and the word in the air.
"That is kind of kinky", spoke Shu picking it up.
"Excuse me", spoke Bee with both embarrassment and surprise.
"Hey she said it", spoke Wei.
"Drop it", spoke Bee.
"Agreed", spoke Shu, despite the fact that he was the one who brought it up in the first place. Well he did not bring it up, but he sure did propagate the idea. "We need to get back onto task. I am still hungry."
"Dang it", spoke Wei.
"You might as well give up on getting out of paying", spoke Wu. "You know how Shu gets when it is not his turn to pay."
"The same you get when it is not your turn", shouted back Shu.
Bee ignored the tree of them for a moment. Even if she gave them a hundread percent of her attention they would still be fighting among each other till the end of the year. It never ceased to amaze her on how the three of them can go from agreeing and to arguing so quickly.
"Careful now", spoke Bee as she stared at the pupil. She knew the young maiden had probably heard this before and with her love of fire she did not really have the right to say anything, but Bee felt she needed to say something. "You need to be careful with the darkness", she spoke in a grim tone. She had seen dark magic up close and personal during her time with the druid. She also understood the nature of the magic that he controlled. She saw how he had to give up something in order to gain power and the more you use it the more you have to give. The young maiden was walking a dangerous path. Many had walked it before and had been lost to the darkness Bee did not want her to be one of them.
"Listen I know you have probably heard this a thousand times", spoke Bee as she focused her eyes on the maiden. "However never think of the darkness as part of your or as your own. The Neither, it is alive and it wants. It is never friendly, not that I have seen of it, and it always wants. Don't loss yourself to the darkness. I have seen a few mages go that way a while back. HOwever that is all I am going to say. I will not judge nor will I try to sway you from your path. Do what you love, but be wary", spoke Bee. The maiden then turned back to the three knuckle heads. "Alright lets move out to get something to eat."
"Hey scientist", shouted Shu.
"Her name Lycia", interrupted Wu.
"Who cares", spoke Wei.
"Obviously me", shouted back Wu.
"Well Lydia", spoke Shu. "If you want to come with us to get something to eat you are more than welcome."
"Hey", shouted Wei.
"Oh shut up", spat Wu. "You were not complaining when you order double portions last time."
"That was once and not another person", spoke Wei.
"Get over it", spoke Bee as she began to walk toward the markets. "Today is your day and you will have to pay the bill."
"You will come right", asked Shu toward the maiden.
"Of course she will", spat Wei. "Who turns down free food. Why not invite half the town while your at it."
"I just might if you don't shut up", spoke Bee.
"Indeed", spoke Wu.

Lydia’s eyes flashed back and forth between the four of the others as their conversation flew back and forth, briefly blushing as they mentioned tendrils being kinky. She didn’t mean it in that way, of course, but it was…a…very real…possibility. Yes, that was it. A possibility. Plus, she couldn’t make the tendrils very tangible yet. That took lots of practice, and the magic of the Ruin tome, in order to sustain them for a meaningful period of time.
Then Bee, the mage, cautioned her on the ‘dangers’ of Elder magic, or the ‘darkness,’ as she called it. Lydia listened, nodding respectfully, and then responded, an odd tone to her voice as she summoned dark energy to surround her, making her outline ripple as the Nether surrounded her briefly in its inky aura.
“Your advice is duly noted, Bee. I am quite careful… I always make sure I give all I can to the Nether. I pour out my being to it, and in return I receive a better me, a calmer, stronger, sharper me. I am transformed; I become born anew. Each time I give myself to the power of the Void, the Elder power fills me and hardens my mind and body. I am growing, I am learning, and I am becoming the woman I was intended to be. The way of the ‘Darkness’ is my way; the path of the Nether is my path. But yes… I am still who I am. I preserve my human essence.”
When the four prepared to depart and eat, Lydia also readied herself to depart, about to say her goodbye, when one of the orange-haired youths called out to her.
“Hey, scientist—Her name is Lycia—Who cares—Obviously me—Well Lydia, if you want to come with us to get something to eat you are more than welcome.”
The Pupil inclined her head graciously.
“I would be honored to eat with you. I’d like to learn more about each of you, and how you came to be here on this far-off island!”

"Great another mouth to feed", spoke Wei in response to Lycia's acceptance.
"Oh give it a rest", spoke Shu as he pushed forward and took charge of the groups destination.
"Well since we are talking about ourselves". spoke Wu as he moved up beside the maiden. "I am Wu", he spoke as he pointed toward himself.
"I am Shu", spoke Shu from the front of the group, once again not looking forward.
"Wei", spoke Wei in a sadden tone. He had his coin purse out now counting up his poor coins. He knew he would receive quite the hit thanks to this little meal.
"I am pretty sure she already has your names", spoke Bee with annoyance as she stared at the three of them.
"Oh can it missy", spoke Wu.
"I second that motion", spoke Shu.
"Third", added Wei.
"You already had a opportunity to introduce yourself", spoke Shu.
"Your long winded introduction lasted quite a bit", commented Wei.
"Now it is our turn", spoke Wu as he rushed forward a bit and then turned around to give a light bow. "The name is Wu, and I am the eldest of us three brothers."
"I am Shu", spoke the brother in the front as he turned around and gave his own little bow. "I am the middle child and by far the cutest."
"Cutest", spoke Bee with both disgust and disbelief. All three of them looked exactly the same and she would not register any of them cute. However she kept that to herself for a moment longer. She would rather let them finish there introduction than to interrupt and make them start over again.
"I am the last and the smartest", spoke Wei as he gave his own bow.
"The three of us are the Blacksmith brothers", they shouted in unison.
"We come from Bern", spoke Shu.
"A land of bandits and iron", spoke Wei.
"Are skill is with the hammer", spoke Wu.
"Hey can we eat hamburger", asked Wei.
"You all kind of stressed that last rhyme", spoke Bee as she looked at the trio.
"yeah she is right", spoke Shu.
"Still good effort team", spoke Wu.
"Anyway", spoke Shu.
"Right", spoke Wei.
"Well I am Wu", spoke the lad dropping the aid of his brothers. "I am a blacksmith from Bern and a skilled fighter with a mace. I also have three brothers and a lovely big sister."
"Lovely", spoke Shu with both excitement and mirth?
"I would not really call Bones Lovely", spoke Wei.
"Excuse me", spoke Wu. "Big sis Bones is completely lovable."
"As lovable as a lion", spoke Shu.
"Really, because you were not saying that when she was wrapping up your wound."
"Of course not", spoke Wei as a evil smile crossed his face. "He was too busy crying for our mother!"
"What! No I was not", shouted Shu.
A evil snicker broke out among the two other boys, but Bee had already had enough of them.
"Alright enough of this", she shouted as she took center stage. "There names are Shu, Wu, and Wei. They are from Bern, and they are blacksmiths. They came to the island to both sell there weapons and practice there craft."
"Hey don't tell her that", spoke Wu.
"Yeah you are ruining our reputation", spoke Shu.
"People must think we are perfect", spoke Wei.
"The way you are telling the story makes it seem like we are rank armatures", spoke Wu.
"Maybe she is thinking about someone else", spoke Wei.
"On right, herself", spoke Shu. "I mean seriously who makes a sword that heavy."
"Enough", shouted Bee as she drew upon some of her magic. Her hand began to shine red with flames as she threaten her own partners.

Lydia was thoroughly amused by the performance of the three blacksmith brothers; it seemed like they were quite the interesting group. She would have been more interested in their trade if she used weapons or wore armor, but still, it was a most admirable calling.
“So if I have all of this straight, you three are Shoe, Woo, and Whey, and you are blacksmiths. You have an older sister named Bones, and you came to this island from Bern to sell the weapons you have crafted. That’s pretty neat!”
Lydia waved to Bee, assuring her that the three weren’t bothering her.
“Since you told me about yourselves, I guess I’ll return the favor. I am Lydia, as I’ve said – a different name than Lycia, the country. I come from Lycia, actually, a province called Caelin. I have one older brother, who I don’t get along with. We haven’t spoken in a long time, and I guess we aren’t even friends. I left my home to try and be myself, not who everyone wanted me to be, and I discovered that I like science. So I’ve been practicing my magic and performing scientific studies. I actually made an antivenom that works to neutralize the poison found in Revenant and Entombed claws, so that one formula is suitable for both beasts.
As for how I got here, there was a mistake, and somehow I was on the wrong ferry boat that took me to the larger ships. I intended to go to Caledonia, in the Western Isles, but I ended up here. It’s actually a really interesting place, but I haven’t been outside of the settlements much. Have you heard the tales about half-men, half-beasts, who apparently live here?
To me, the whole matter isn’t much for spookiness or anything along that vein, but I sure would like to try to meet one, to talk to them and see exactly how they work. It would be like meeting a dragon. If the dragon didn’t eat me first, it would be a really cool experience!”

"That is nice and all", spoke Shu as the group arrived at the fish on a stick restaurant. The place was actually called Fish on a Stick by the way. It was quit the little shop and despite it's base name the shop was quite well taken care of. The windows were shinned and the floor was waxed. The door was of high quality and all the tables clean. Fish On A Stick was built like a high class restaurant, but its patrons were clearly of low social status. However that did not bother the owner none. He was a old mercenary and the entire shop was his life's dream. He had plenty of coin saved up and this place was merely his retirement.
"You got our names wrong", spoke Wu bluntly.
"Yes indeed", spoke Wei.
"It is Shu", spoke Wu.
"Wei", spoke Shu.
"ANd Wu", added Wei.
"Oh come on she is at the base", spoke Bee.
"Yes, but she is not hitting the metal at the right angel", spoke Shu.
"Really", spoke Bee as she looked at her orange hair companion. "Your going to make a blacksmithing reference."
"Hey, it is what we do", spoke Wei.
"Speaking of References", spoke Wu changing the subject. "You said you are from Lycia", he spoke with some curiosity.
"I hate Lycia", spoke Wei.
"Oh please", spoke Shu. "You are just upset that there is a guy with the same name as you from there."
"Of course", spoke Wei. "I thought my name was unique and that I was the only Wei on the face of the planet."
"Well that one is on you then", spoke Wu. "You should have known better than to think you are the only special snow flake in the world."
"Even more so since he has two triplets", spoke Shu.
"Whatever", spoke Wei.
With the three arguing among each other about another person named Wei Bee saw the opportunity to jump into the conversation. "Well now that the two of us have a moment to talk", she spoke as she threw a glare at the trio. "I have heard and seen a few of the beast fold. One of them turned into a bear adn antoher one turned into a rabbit."
"The Rabbit ones are my favorite", spoke Shu.
"I prefer the bird ones", spoke Wu.
"Hey imagine what would happen if one of the bird ones turned into a swan", spoke Wei. "She would totally look like a angel."
"Can I change my answer", spoke Shu after thinking about it for a while.
"Will you three shut up and get inside already", spoke Bee as she pushed the three of them though the door. "Anyway", she spoke while Shu was ordering there food. I have heard a little bit about them and seen a few of them transform. From what I know of dragon legends", spoke Bee leaving out the part where she knows a actual dragon. "There transformation and the dragons transformation work in similar ways. The only true difference is in how power they are. Dragons are far more powerful than there rabbit ear counter parts."

The triplets continued their crazy, rambling talk, and Lydia listnened to it in mild interest as they walked. After all, it was not like she had any other options. As the three went on and on, finally Bee interjected and they spoke of the dragons and beast men.
Bee’s opinion sounded much like Lydia’s thoughts, and she nodded, agreeing with the mage. The dragons of old had the power of sheer, unrestricted elemental might, outpourings of energy that gave them scales harder than diamonds, strength greater than that of the heroes of legend, and breath attacks that were more terrifying than natural disasters. These beast men had… claws? Fangs? Wings, maybe, and beaks? That was nothing compared to the might of the great dragons.
“It is a shame that specimens of both are not preserved… science could learn a great deal from studying them. In particular, I would love to know how the dragons were able to draw forth the power of fire, or ice, or wind. It is as if they had a volcano or a blizzard inside of them, without using magic. Such infinite power could be used for so many purposes. Just think – a fire that never goes out, and never tires you? Instead of casting it, it is merely there to use. A wind that could blow our ships wherever we desire, with no need for oars!
Even the beast-men could teach us much. How do they live, half human and half animal? Could we obtain their wings, or their claws, to use when we please? That would be a great boon as well.”

The maiden's words were a bit ironic to Bee. The way she spoke about dragons was as if they were no longer around. A truly great irony. Bee and several other people in Bern, especially the ones who often the arena, understood that dragons still existed in the world. She herself had meet one. The meeting was mind blowing to be honest, but Bee kept that information to herself. She would do nothing to endanger her friend and to be honest she was pretty sure no one would believer her. However that was a different subject for a different moment. At this moment Bee began to focus on one thing, fire.
"If I could harness", spoke spoke to herself as she thought back onto the dragons power. If she could breath fire like a fire dragon or simply control flames on that kind of level. Just thinking of that power made her shake with excitement. There was nothing greater to Bee than the power to control flames. Fire had a special place in her heart and the idea of gaining more of it was tantalizing to her. If only, she thought.
"Just imagine what would happen if we could breath fire", spoke Shu breaking Bee's concentration.
"Or maybe Ice", spoke Wei. The young man began to rub his chin as if he had a beard. Obviously he was copying somebody he knew from the past, but Bee had no idea who.
"You fools", shouted Wu! "You all are thinking far to small! Just imagine what kind of power we could have if we could control metal! Just think about it. The ability to smelt and mold metal as we please!"
"By the gods", shouted Shu.
"There are dragons that can do that", shouted Wei!
"Of course", shouted Wu, with no historical basics to back him up! "You fools highly underestimate the might of dragons. Metal smelting was the least of there fantastical powers!"
"No it is not", shouted Bee. Annoyance flashed over Bee's face as she stared at Wu. "Where and in what legends did you hear about dragon smelting metal!"
"In the book of legends", spoke Wu.
"The Book of Legends", spoke Wei with disgust. "You mean that children's book our aunt use to read us?"
"You mean the one with the black illustrations and improper description of metal forging", spoke Shu.
"That is probably the one", spoke Bee as he gaze burned into Wu's chest.
"Hold on a second", spoke Wu ready to defend himself. "That book..."
"Has no credibility", spoke Bee. "If you are going to talk about dragons you need to read the Journal of Hartmut, The scrolls of ages, and The legend of the Scouring. Those are the only creditable sources on dragons"
"Wait what about the letters of Lowlander", came a voice from behind the group. Bee turned around to see a pink hair women clad in light blue armor. She had sharp eyes and a wolfish grin on her face. Her rippling muscles and old scars told of a life time of violence.
"All useless", spoke Bee as she looked at the maiden. "I know you would not understand Bones, but those letters have no creditable backing. They are just letters that showed up in a old castle. Somebody could have simply written them for profit and acted as if they were fact."
"What makes those books you mention so different then", spoke the maiden as she stepped forward into the door way. "Also who is your friend", asked the maiden as she looked at Lydia.

It seemed like Bee was excited by the concept of harnessing the power of the dragons. Indeed, their might could be used for so many different things. It could be life-changing for so many people if the energy of those long-extinct beasts could be put to good use. Endless fire to heat homes during the bleak winters… Wind to blow ships from port to port… Rain to nourish crops at will, and earth that contorted and tilled itself without so much as a finger’s point.
Lydia spoke suddenly as the four began fighting over sources of credible information on dragons.
“The Journal of Hartmut is most likely forged – at least part of it. There are historical inaccuracies within different parts, leading an unbiased reader to conclude that things were filled in, or the whole of the work counterfeited.
The legend of the Scouring…makes no mention of metal. Indeed, the tribes of the dragons were Fire, Ice, Wind, Water, Thunder, and Earth. The records of these beings are few and far between, but it seems that the Scouring did indeed occur…although I doubt that a group of human heroes were the only thing that destroyed so powerful a race.”
Then a new woman appeared, walking forward to meet with the group. It appeared her name was Bones. Indeed, it was a fitting name for a woman marked by scars, one who looked like a tough, wiry ruffian.
“I am Lydia. I harness the power of Elder magic to fight, bending the great might of the Nether to my will. And I am a scientist, a researcher of toxins and antidotes, of poisons and antivenoms.”
The Pupil gave Bones another once-over.
“And you? Who are you, whom they call Bones?”

"She is our sister", spoke Shu.
"Our Big sister", spoke Wu.
"More like a nanny", spoke Bones as she rubbed the top of Shu's head. The young lad gave a scowl of displeasure and pushed her hand off his head, but the maiden paid him no mind.
"What brings you here Bones", asked Wei. The maiden began to go into several excuses about being in the area, but to Bee it was quite clear. She was either worried or lonely, she seemed protective of the three to Bee. However the maiden had more important matters to settle into.
"Give us ten helpings", spoke Bee to the shop keeper.
"Ten", shouted Wei in horror.
"Of course", spoke Shu. "You have to feed our guest and Bones. You know full well..."
"Don't even start", spoke Bee cutting there argument down before it became one. "Bones is a mercenary", spoke Bee moving closer to Lydia.
"I prefer the term soldier for hire", spoke Bones.
"Sorry, soldier for hire", spoke Bee in a sarcastic tone. "anyway, onto more important and pressing matters. You said that you came here by accident right", spoke Bee as she thought back to the maiden's story. "Well since you are here in Hurtlpool why not participate in some training. I could use some experience with dealing with dark magic and you could probably use a few more rounds controlling your spells."
"So what you are saying is that you need a target dummy", spoke Bones in a blunt manner as she chomped down on her piece of fish. She had two more waiting for her to inhale next after she was done with the first.
"What! Or course not", spoke Bee. Though Bones was close to what she desired. Bee truly wanted to figure out how to overcome the power of dark magic. She was going to face a druid one day and she needed to know all the limitations of dark magic. She knew a lot, but not in the path of combat.
"Nah, she just wants to beat up on somebody weaker than her", spoke Wu.
"Wait, if I remember correctly elder magic is stronger than nature magic", spoke Shu.
"What is your point", spoke Wei confused by it all. He was the least magically knowledge of the group, thought that was not saying much. Magic was not there trade, nor there hobby."
"Clearly Lydia is stronger", spoke Shu.
"I see", spoke Wei.
"I don't get it", spoke Wu.
"Simple", spoke Shu. "Since dark magic beats nature magic that means that Lycia beats Bee since Bee only has nature magic. Thus by that logic dictates that Lycia is a stronger mage than Bee."
"Do you want to test that theory", spoke Bee as she gave Shu a death glare.
"Calm it down Bee", spoke Bones is a calm manner. Her fist however where white from the power of her grip she placed on the handle of her axe. As Bee said Bones was protective. The maiden released her iron hard grip when she noticed Bee calm down a bit. The two were close enough to be considered friends, but there personalities did not mix well. Angry and Angry does not create peace.
