Name: Tadhg (pronounced "tie-g", like the first syllable of "tiger")
Class: Nomad
Age: 24
Born in: Sacae, outside Bulgar
Appearance: Tadhg is slight of build, measuring only 5’9” and sporting a fairly skinny (albeit muscular) physique. He gives off the impression that he is taller due to the fact that he almost always sits up straight and has slightly more neck length than the usual adult male. His green hair is extremely untidy, greasy, and nearly impossible to tame with any conceivable comb. His face is sunken and sloped but otherwise average-looking, while his green eyes often twinkle intensely whenever he is concentrating.
Tadhg cares little for the state of his wardrobe. He wears a tan traveling garb akin to the usual Sacaean style, occasionally with a dark brown undershirt. Slung across his shoulder is a small fur sack, which uses to carry essentials, such as water and small portions of food. Otherwise, he wears typical mounted archery attire – a leather shoulder pauldron, brown riding boots, a leather jerkin beneath his garb when in combat, and his bow and quiver slung diagonally across his back. Another notable mention is the bear tooth necklace he always wears as a gift from an apprenticeship.
Personality: It is said that Sacaeans never lie, and Tadhg is no exception to this oft-quoted sobriquet. He is indeed an honest person, but he is also reserved and introverted. If Tadhg talks at great length, he is either lost in his own imagination, or you done messed up… bad. He prefers to keep to himself, often going on hikes or solitary rides alone through the plains. He isn’t entirely antisocial, however – initiate a conversation with him about food, and you’re good.
Tadhg also excels at decision-making. Even though he is withdrawn, he is considerate of those around him and often tries to come up with solutions that benefit everyone involved. He is not especially quick to anger either, though with how stoic he appears to be, people often assume otherwise. Finally, Tadhg prides himself on being an excellent cook.
His horse’s name is Namaste.
History: Tadhg was born into a minor Sacaean tribe village located on the outskirts of Bulgar. His parents both worked with the fur and textile trading caravans that ran throughout most of Sacae; ergo, they were absent from home often, though they were caring and loving parents when they did reside there at length. Moreover, Tadhg was the oldest of four siblings, so the bulk of familial obligations fell to him throughout his late childhood. He was forced to teach himself to cook and clean, and, when he was old enough, to hunt.
Fortunately, much of Tadhg’s tribe supported him. Although he taught himself most menial tasks by observing the behavior of the tribesmen and tribeswomen around him, he was encouraged to do so in the first place by the tribe’s elder. In time, he became a novice hunter, fisherman, and cook, and learned to take care of his younger siblings.
At the age of eighteen, Tadhg experienced tragedy. When out hunting one day, he returned to find his tribe decimated and his village razed. Though he never found out the true culprit, he strongly suspected bandits running amok in the area. In a bittersweet sort of way, he was pleased – the corpses of his family members were nowhere to be found, leading him to assume that they managed to escape the ordeal. He subsequently embarked on a trek in order to find them after asking around Bulgar and the surrounding area ended fruitlessly.
He traveled throughout most of the area in hopes of tracking down either his family or the elusive bandits in an effort to avenge them. Armed only with his bow and rudimentary knowledge of archery, he set out with high hopes, but sadly did not get very far. He had left in the middle of a drought, and so few animals that made for prey congregated near the dried-out riverbeds. On the verge of starvation, Tadhg collapsed near the riverfront.
He was miraculously found and nursed back to health by a passerby, who turned out to be a kindly middle-aged woman. This woman served as one of Bulgar’s premier butchers and meat chefs. Realizing that he would need funds and more experience in order to properly pursue his lost lifeblood, he took a job as the aforementioned woman’s apprentice and silently convinced himself that his struggle for exacting revenge or finding any members of his family would be hopeless.
Instead, he moved on with his life; as the butcher’s apprentice, he agreed to a five-year appointment in which he traveled out into the plains with her in order to procure meat and fish. He refined his archery skills and gradually improved his prowess with the bow on horseback, though he still has much to learn. Additionally, he learned how to properly butcher and prepare meat into dishes such as steaks, stews, and fillets, thereby honing his culinary skills in the process.
He served the butcher dutifully for five years, never once wavering in his tasks. As a token of her gratitude, the butcher bequeathed a bear tooth necklace and her horse to Tadhg, whom the latter renamed Namaste. Although it seems that Tadhg has put his profound losses behind him, this is far from reality. In truth, Tadhg still clings to the merest shred of hope he has remaining: the hope that someday he will be reunited with his family again and somehow track down the bandit troop that slaughtered his tribe. For now, however, he works full-time as a hunter, butcher, and cook in Bulgar, still convinced deep down that he will one day enact his vengeance.
