Having left the snowy, blizzard ridden fortress up in the northern part of Ilia on a practice mission, most of the trainees that went with two of the senior officers, leaving three behind to hold down the area, would be moving from the border around Etruia, having stocked up on enough rations to move across the entire border, all the way down to Sacae's. Being on the road for days, without having a proper Pegasus to call her own, one of the newer younger trainees, myself, would be on the backsaddle of one of the seniors Pegasi, keeping an eye on the back road to ensure the prevention of ambushes, the knights only a few inches up off of the ground to better inspect the surrounding area.
After having gone on for a few days, clearing out some of Etruia's border, most of the trainees had gotten weary. Unable to cope with the sudden warm weather that they had been accustomed too, having most of the protective armor off and on the side, carried by some of the unmounted pegasi. Still keeping up with normal drills along the way, each trainee was given a training lance, expected to travel and inspect during the day, and spar at night.
Once the first week of taxing work had passed, we had managed to clear up to the edge of Etruia's border, the endless Sacaen plains just up ahead, with some of the trainee's excited by the change of pace. Taking off a full day to relax, store up on energy, and to study the tools, and survival guides around them. Now trotting down the lush green plains to the right, and the cold mountain air to the left, I would be fairly exhausted by now. Tired of all the constant bumps from traveling, and the lack of any real action going on, even the sparring had become exhausted and tedious.
Now looking out to the plains in anticipation, awaiting anything, just something, to happen along these seemingly peaceful plains. With a book in my lap, I would slowly return to my studies, reading up on the kinds of weapons used in Sacae. "Captain, I must ask now that we're out here... What exactly was the purpose of this exercise?" I would question the ranking official behind me. "Not only is this to improve your knowledge of potential enemies, it can also give you a taste of the weather, possible terrains. That, and you all needed to get out of the fort. See some more of the world. And I couldn't think of a better way."

Often Gael found himself participating in the routine patrols around the borders of Greikah territory. The Greikah territory extended towards the northern parts of Sacae, on the borders between Sacae and Ilia. More often than not these patrols would go rather uneventful which Gael always figured as a good thing. Confrontations during patrols normally went smoothly however. It was typically just people passing through Sacae on their travels but occasionally there were people who required a more stern touch when dealing with them. Hopefully things today would be peaceful and boring, which Gael knew would be much to the disappointment to his fellow Greikah.
Getting stuck with patrol was not the ideal job for most of his other tribesmen. Many wanted to go hunting or go out to fight some glorious battle. Patrolling the northern border was notorious for being dull. However some jumped at the opportunity to join in on the job due to the chance of running into some danger and excitement. That normally led to was Gael having to deal with their complaints and groans of boredom. Despite that however, they all took their jobs quite seriously. They were after all protecting their homeland from invaders so there was some solace in that.
Today was going to be different; today they had picked up some tracks of people on the border. In order to determine whether or not these people were to be friend or foe Gael took two other riders with him and moved forward, following the tracks. They found that the tracks belonged to a group of Pegasus riders. That was certainly different, Gael pondered as to why they were out this far. Perhaps it was some sort of scouting mission? Regardless they were resting at the moment which gave the Greikah the advantage that was the most important part.
They moved, knowing that their brothers and sisters were waiting for a signal if something went wrong. Gael took the lead, the other riders to the sides of him as they approached the group. ”Greetings! I am Gael. This land belongs to the Greikah, what is the purpose of you being here?” Gael spoke with authority in his voice; he had a feeling they meant no harm but there was no telling at the moment. Gael had a knack for reading people but there was always a chance that he is wrong in this case despite hoping that this time he wasn’t.

Holding my chin in my hand as I stare out towards the back of the group, grumbling as I close my book out of boredom, just barely catching a hint of movement among the plains before tapping the senior behind me. "Captain.... I saw something move." I would whisper in her ear, the leader giving the signal to stop. "Alright, this is good enough for a while. Take some time to relax everyone." she would call out, dismounting quickly before Gael came into sight.
Lifting her head up as Gael spoke to us, she would give me a nudge forward. "You, trainee. This is good practice. Go and speak with him." She would command before heading off to relax. Taking a step forward towards Gale, I would quickly tie my hair up into the long ponytail. "Er... Greetings Gael! We're with the Ilian Militia, one of the trainee squads. We're scouting out the borders as practice. We apologize if we've stepped on Greikah ground without permission, and if so we promise to leave as soon as we rest our bodies from the long trek." I would nervously explain, giving a slight bow with my armor clanking quietly. Some of the trainees behind me would be hacking away at each others training lances, the large wooden sticks clacking back and forth, the occasional tip bouncing off the others armor.
Glancing out on the plains as I await his response, watching the occasional patch of tall grass swooshing by in the wind, trying to stay calm without angering the tribeseman.

It didn’t take much to realize that this group wasn’t a veteran group of soldiers before he was even told. It was also clear to Gael just who exactly was in charge of this trainee squad. Interesting that a trainee squad venture this far, quite bold. Luckily they had met Gael before anyone else, they might not have fared so well if it was anyone else. Still Gael figured they were a genuine group, sensing no malice or ill will coming from any of them. That didn’t mean he would let his guard down, nor any of the other Greikah tribesmen.
He’d dismount his horse and walk closer to the group, examining them as he did so. The girl before him was polite, and it was quite obvious she was nervous. He didn’t blame her, being in a foreign land surrounded by a group of strangers telling her that she was trespassing would probably get anyone on edge. ”Not very often we see Pegasi in our lands.” Gael began as he admired the winged beasts. ”Sending a trainee squad this far out seems a bit dangerous wouldn’t you agree?” It seemed rather reckless to him to go through with such training.
”Next time be more careful, you may not get so lucky and run into me. Not everyone on this side of the border is as keen on outsiders. You have done us no harm so we shall do the same to you. If there is anything you need please feel free to ask we are willing to help. Other than that enjoy your rest and may your travels be safe.” He’d give the group a smile before heading back to the other Greikah. Once everything seemed fine they would soon be on their way but they would hear their guest out if they needed anything.

I "Yes.... They really are beautiful creatures. Their devotion, care, the bond with the rider, their grace and skill..."I would explain as I look back on the pegasi, tracing the sheen on their feathers with my eyes, before turning back to Gael.
"We understand, and thank you. I'll have to ask the Captain if there's anything that we need. We apologize again for trespassing here." I would give a slight bow to the Greikah. "The lands of Sacae are far more.... warm than I'm used to, but you live in a beautiful place. Ilia will always be my home, even with the blizzards, but this place is amazing to just look at." Turning my attention back to the windy plains, the waves of grass disrupted slightly be each gentle rush of air, spreading across the plains.
"Are there any tribes in particular that we should watch out for on our way along the border? We wish to cause as little bloodshed as possible." Heading back to the Captain, tapping her shoulder. "Is there anything that we may need to restock on?" I would ask the high ranking official.
"Hmm.... We don't need much, but I suppose a small bit of rations to keep us going, and any good possible hunting spots or areas we shouldn't go near if that's alright." She would nod, brushing down the feathers of her pegasus, getting the dirt and the loose feathers out of its mane, the now smooth furred horse stretching its wings out, allowing the Captain to rub down and clean his feathers.

The question asked by the squire in front of him made him think for a moment. Not because he did not know the answer to it, it was more because the answer was a bit troubling. Due to the times that they were in a lot of people were on edge all over Elibe and Sacae was no different. While certainly not a land of people who murder those on sight just for stepping into their territory, one still had to be careful. It was troubling but it was certainly understandable, this was just the times that they were in.
”There are no tribes around these parts that will give you any more grief than we have unless they are on high alert but as long as you stick closer to the border you should be fine.” Gael responded, answering the Ilian’s question. When he overhead the conversation between the girl and her commanding officer, Gael motioned to the other riders which signaled them that they would be helping out. They gathered some rations they had to spare and would offer it over to the group. There was no point in any hostility coming from Gael’s part; they were no harm to the Greikah.
”This should be more than enough.” He would say handing it all over. ”Like I said before if you stick closer to the border you should be fine but going deeper into the plains could lead to trouble. If you go a bit deeper you should find some game that would be great for hunting. Often does the Ilian Militia authorize such patrol expeditions?” He doubted that this was an often occurrence as this was the first time they ran this group but it is possible that they have done this a few times before without being noticed.
