With Gar's command, the fight was over. The young dragon let out a deep sigh of relief. Part of him knew how he got when it came to fighting, it can go really good or it can go really bad. And while he knew that this was all practice he didn't want to risk it getting really bad. He shook his head a bit to sort of snap himself out of the fighting mode, Gar rushed out to escort a man whom he had injured. The crew was left to disperse and resume their duties.
Days turned into weeks, weeks into a month, and soon the group was in the waters of his homeland. Aeos ran out onto the deck one morning and rejoiced at the sight of the city of Khan Yunis. The crown jewel of Nabata. All boats inevitably made their way here and such it has become a giant melting pot of cultures, flavors, and people. Aeos spent a good ten minutes out on the edge of the deck staring out at the city. He took deep breaths of the salty and spice filled air. He could return to the city a million times and never get tired of that wonderful scent. He was smiling at the sudden realization that he was home. Home. After the horrible ordeal at sea, he was so damned happy to see that the city and its surroundings had been unchanged. Aeos spoke to the crew about a few good shops and some of the better of the local bars. He recommended if they had the coin to visit the more academic portion of the city and have some of the shaved ice made by the mages. He also told them to behave themselves, the local law is not the type to pull punches. And there was a thing called street justice.
With the ship docked, the crew sorted, and the paperwork filled out. Aeos made his way off the ship and stood there for a bit. His eyes scanned the docks hoping to catch a glimpse of someone he knew. But, no one really caught his attention. What did catch his attention was how many different people there were. And something else he rarely saw in Nabata, flowers! There were little pots of flowering cactus scattered about the city. Most of which in the windows of the various buildings. As well as some other noncactus flowering plants. He also noticed that some of the hardy shrubs that lined the shorelines looked a little greener. Did it rain? Did I miss a festival?
Aeos was snapped out of his thoughts by Gar's voice.
"Uh.. I think.. it might be a bit too early for them to come into town. But, I know the people to ask. If you want I can introduce you.. or I can come get you after you've a chance to sample some of the local wares."

Gar stepped forward along the harbor. All of the times he had docked in Khan Yunis, rarely had he actually entered the city. Normally, he would catch up on sleep while his mates indulged themselves with the satisfactions meant for land lovers. But here he was dealing with portmasters and whatnot. Gar had asked a question toward his friend.
Aeos answered him. The dragon’s parent might not be around at this time. That would be a shame but Gar wouldn’t complain. “Alright, feel free to talk to your people. In the meantime, I’ll find what this town has to offer.” Gar smirked to himself. Typically that would’ve been freedom for the crew to cut loose. Not here though. Khan Yunis is too important to be blacklisted from the harbor.
He gave another glance back at his crew on the ship. It was sharp enough to make sure they didn’t do anything wrong. They proceeded into the town as any other crew would. The captain shook his head and exhaled through his nostrils. He watched the majority of them turn into taverns and inns. An audible sigh showed how he felt about his crew’s actions. Gar moved on his own.
The berserker had assumed this was another desert city, with burnt and upset people. But that wasn’t so true. Khan Yunis was a large port. One with impressive income, yet a dark side. A little like Badon. Of course, Gar saw this was the case as he walked the roads of the town. Promoters came up to him with specials for their bars. In the alleyways, men disappeared when they saw him walking past.
Gar eyed the alleyway men as they walked off. He shrugged and entered one of the bars that his mates occupied. Gar tossed his goldpouch at the bartender. “That is to cover anyone in my crew. Captain Gar, by the way.” Gar heard a few mates say ‘Yarr’ as he waved and walked out the door.
Gar continued to stroll around the town. The houses were surprisingly nice and populated with cacti and other desert plants. The shops were full of trinkets from various places on the map. This was the first time he had seen all these ornaments individually at other ports. But here they were in one place. It was a one stop shop for the cultures of Elibe.
As the captain traversed the town, on more than one occasion he had to give a nod to some type of enforcement giving him an evil eye. A quick glance was enough to reveal Gar was a pirate. Guards typically didn’t get along with pirates. Eventually, he came upon a library. It was an archive of sorts. Gar wasn’t much of a reader but he entered anyway.
The entrance was serendipitous. He was immediately drawn to a large leather-bound tome. Naval Vessels – Military and Commercial- Gar began to peruse the tome page by page.

“Alright. Have fun then. And be careful with the heat, It sneaks up on you.” Aeos shouted at his friend as he walked away. Part of him was sort of sad to see him go and part of him was relieved. He had been with Gar for months now, and, well they did need a bit of a break from one another.
Aeos stretched his arms up to the sky until something cracked. He put his arms down and rolled his neck. He grabbed his things and made his way into the heart of the city. He took his time with his walk around the city. He went right through the market street, stopping every now and then to look at the stalls and all their wares. The scent of food and sand constantly assailed his nose and he loved every moment of it. His walk took him down to the very edge of the market street, down a smokey alley, and back out into another section of the harbor.
He made a pit stop at the pub he met Nayru in. The young dragon checked in with his former boss. Aeos learned that the old man became a grandfather in his absence. To which the dragon complemented. His mother had always told him children are a blessing even if they drive you insane at times. But, then the old man commented on the young dragon’s appearance. The dragon’s body still wasn't quite what it was. The voyage on the ship did help him. He was able to regain some of his muscle mass and look less like a skeleton and more like a constantly tired teenager.
“You look a bit like those men in the alleys. All of em got their faces with their cheeks sucked in. What happened to you lad?” The old man asked.
“I was.. Out at sea.. A long.. time..” He spoke with a somber tone. Aeos expression shifted to one of pain. The old man took the hint and offered the dragon a cup of wine. To which the dragon raised the glass, poured a little out for the fallen, and then drank the cup in one quick go.
“Thank you.”
The next of his stops took him through the garment district. He walked down the street past the stalls of women selling fabrics. Past the stalls full of rugs, mats, curtains, and leather stuffs. Past the tannery and it’s acidic smells and down another alley. He ended up on another road to which he walked towards the right. Past the shoemaker, past glass makers, and the carpenters. The dragon kept walking through the area until he came across building he wanted. A small square building with a sort of dome shaped entrance. Aeos compared the top of the dome as like one that looked like the shape of an upside down beet. Aeos greeted the receptionist, who recognized him. But, Aeos did not recognize her yet. It wasn’t until she started talking that he was able to put two and two together. This young lady was the daughter of the land lord.
“Oh, Maisey. You got taller!” He commented. He was always surprised whenever he saw humans go through their growth spurts. Maisey was eleven when he last saw her. He missed seeing her the last time he was home. And the only time he saw her before that was during the last shark hunt, the year prior. “That’s not the only thing I got!” She grinned.
“Yeah, I don’t want to know.” He responded in an unamused tone.
“Aw come on.” She poked his forehead.
“Hey.. you look different.. Were you sick or somethin?”
“Sort of. I’ve been through my own personal hell. So wait it’s just you manning the desk? No dad?”
“Eh, no not really. My brother’s out back having a smoke. Anyway, guess you wanna know if your folks are home?”
“Please and thanks.” Aeos responded. The little tanned girl responded and shuffled through a few papers.
“Yep. They're here. Early too, not surprising. We’ve had a couple of really bad sand storms this season. Been driving most folk from the desert to here or forcing those that are here to stay put.”
“What’s with the sudden boost in Flora?”
“New magic’s been discovered in Lycia. So, the sages have been out testing the plant magic on all sorts of things. Last week they tested it out on Sherman.” The little lady pointed to the cactus in the corner. The cactus was child sized, long, and covered in thin yellow needles. The top end of it was covered in little flowers.
“Sherman! You’ve got hair now.” Aeos spoke to the cactus as if it were a person.
“He looks adorab--ah!” The young dragon spoke as he turned his head around to speak to Maisey. Only to have Masiey up on the desk at his face level and uncomfortably close to his personal space. This caused the dragon man to jump back.
“Don’t do that!” He shouted. His hand was over his chest clutching his stone out of habit.
“I couldn’t help it! You’ve got lovely eyes.” She grinned. Nope. Time to go. Aeos mentally told himself.
“I’m gonna go. Thanks for the info. Give your dad my greetings.” He waved and quickly exited the building. He made his way down the street in an oddly quickened pace and made his way back into the heart of the city. Hmm.. Should I go home first or find Gar first?

The berserker was expanding his wealth of information about naval combat. The majority of what the book had to offer, Gar had seen first-hand. Maintenance, organization, boarding methods. Something caught his eye. “Now what do we have here?” It was a corvus. A large, heavy boarding plank. One that was held vertically and released to fall atop the targeted ship. A corvus had teeth-like protrusions to dig into the targeted vessel’s deck. These would hold it in place. “I want one.” Gar spoke to himself. The captain logged the information. He would report this to a carpenter and see if they would be able to construct one for him.
Gar continued flipping through the pages of the naval tome. One particular section contained descriptions and depictions of various vessels. Gar had seen them all at one time or another. All except for one. There was a picture of a ship, one of enormous size. It was the size of a town, big enough to hold many other boats inside of itself. It was like a mobile fortress on the water... Then it clicked. That was why his scouting parties had no success in finding Black Bart’s base. They had searched the entire coastline of the isles and still nothing. How? The dark pirate must have a mobile base like this one. A floating fortress that can launch ships from various locations in the seas. This was both a simplification and a complication. The location of Gar’s enemy had been narrowed down, but narrowed to somewhere in the vast ocean. Still, it was progress.
Gar read up on the floating fortress. The intricacies and the weaknesses of the massive boat were committed to memory. Gar would need this information later. He closed the tome and looked up to see a librarian eyeing him intently. The librarian spoke. “I can loan you that tome you know. It would probably be more useful with you that gathering dust here.” Gar jumped at the chance. “Think you could? It could save lives.”
The librarian laughed. “That book is simply a receptacle for information. It will not be saving any lives on its own. However, the information it contains, in conjunction with a person strong enough to wield it, that could save lives.” Then the librarian shrugged. “Or end them, either way.” Gar tilted his head at the comment, but placed the tome in the sash at his hip regardless.
“Thanks.”
“Mm-Hmm. Just return it undamaged.”
"Aye, you got my word." June’s spirit stirred as Gar exited the archive. I liked that one, quite a thinker. Gar didn’t respond outright. He just thought it was a strange librarian who had been cooped up too long with too many books.
Now he would like to find Aeos, to tell him of his breakthrough. On second thought, it could be too soon for that. This trip was a chance to get their mind off of the evil dark pirates. I'll tell him later. Regardless, Gar began roaming the streets, trying to catch up with the dragon.

Meanwhile, in the market streets, a large man was out doing his daily shopping. He was a tall fellow, with strong broad arms, a bit of a gut, and strong sturdy legs. He wore a simple blue sleeveless tunic and a simple pair of slacks. As well as a simple pair of dark brown sandals. Atop his head was a white turban. On his chin a graying beard of great proportions, in the bandholz style. Over his shoulder was a bag that held all sorts of goodies. Some spices, herbs, a jar of pickled fish, and a bag of flour. Over his shoulder was a small casket with freshwater. His other hand had a basket with something rather delicate for a man of his size and appearance. A fresh bouquet of bright yellow flowers that were carefully wrapped in a soaked wet cloth.
This man's green eyes caught sight of Gar in the streets. Gar did not know this man but he knew him. He knew the bangle around the young captain's arm. The grizzled old man gathered up his belongings and went to follow the young captain. He compared the young captain's physical description with the mental one he had. A mental description that was forged through the stories and letters of his own son. He's not just a captain. That boy's got the look of a pirate too. The grizzled old man shook his head. Pirate or not. that boy's my boy's best friend. Least I can do is offer him a drink. He thought to himself as he continued to inconspicuously follow the captain. The man looked around at the building he was in front of. I've been tailing him like some thief for the last three buildings. Time to open your mouth, Yasin. He sighed.
"Oy, You, Captain Gar!" --
Aeos sighed. He decided it was best if he went home first before tracking through the city to find his best friend. He made his way out the of the city via the usual route. He walked out towards the edge of the city gates. Out of the city walls and into the slums that dotted the four corners of the Khan Yunis. Families living in tents and yurts were common here. But, even out side the city walls there were some buildings. Hastily constructed fishing shacks. Many of which were constructed with stone although there were some of them that used wood. He kept walking and past all that. He passed through the sea of multicolored tents, past the bums begging for coin, past the family with the various children running around. He looked like he belonged here. Especially with his raggedy clothes and unclean appearance. That's not to say that all the people of the slums looked like this, but rather that it drew less attention to him.
Despite this being the slums of the desert so to speak, deliveries did make it out here. Men with animals and wheel barrels regularly made stops to the various families that lived in the area. And there was a charm to this sort of life that was missing within the upper classes. The families here did more with less. They knew the value of having nothing and treasuring the few some things they did have. He walked to the one shack that was the furthest away from everyone else. To the shack that could hear both the waves of the sea and the shifting of the dunes. To the shack they rented. To the shack that always had a smoke of a cookfire trailing through the air. He smelled the air and smiled softly at it. To the shack that had the crack in the wall and dusty old floor.
Of course whenever the family rented the home, Aeos mother did everything in her power to make it feel like an actual home. She cleaned the floors furiously. Laid out various mats and rugs to keep the sand out. She hung tiny curtains on the window and set their tiny table with a nice copper tea set. Pillows were used as seats. And the walls bore the trinkets of their old lives. Along side, the shack was the animals. Penned and gated into their respective spots. Several sunshades were hung up on large poles and tied in place. Under those shades were the troughs with water and food for the animals.
As the young dragon made his way down the dune towards his old home. A familiar face ran up to greet him.
"OZZY!" Aeos spoke as the family dog jumped and brought the dragon man to the ground.

Gar wandered around the streets, still considering the implications of what he had learned in the book of boats. He was so lost in thought that he didn’t immediately notice he was being tailed. However after a couple blocks, he caught on. This was in broad daylight. Also the scene was quite crowded and visible, so Gar wasn’t too worried.
Gar was being followed, but it didn’t seem malicious. The man behind him may have been lost or perhaps just taking the scenic route back to his home. Either way, Gar had a mind to talk to him, to see what exactly the man’s intention was. The man beat him to the punch, addressing him as Captain Gar. The man knew his name. This was likely bad news, probably something one of his crewmates had done.
Gar turned. His quick examination of the man was interesting. Gar was almost certain they hadn’t met before. Even so, there was a familiar air around the man, but he couldn’t place it immediately. Maybe he was an old retired sailor or pirate that Gar had worked with. The man may even had been a bartender from one of those blurry nights in a port town. Gar resigned himself that he wouldn’t figure out who exactly the man was through simple speculation so he engaged him in conversation.
“Ahoy. Anything I can help you with?” Gar hoped that the man’s response would help him figure out who he was. That is, if they had met before.

"Ha Ha! Ah It is you Gar. Ah good! For a moment there I thought I had the wrong man." The larger man spoke and had a grin on his face. Yasin was a large man. Maybe a half head taller than Gar.
"Name's Yasin. It's a pleasure to finally meet you. I'd offer you my hand but they are a bit full. Runnin a few errands for the misses you see." He gestured to the barrel and basket.
"But you! You are a friend of my 'amal, My son! And for that I want to express my thanks. You keep his nose out of trouble even saved his life. His letters when we get them are full of the adventures you've had with him." The man spoke with such a pride and joy in his voice.
"Though we haven't gotten a letter from in a few months. What brings you to our little end of the desert? If you aren't terribly busy, I invite you to dinner at my home. My wife is a fantastic cook. I'll even break out the good wine to celebrate." It was at this point he realized Gar might not know who his son was. In all the excitement he forgot to mention Aeos' own name.
"Ah, silly me. You probably don't know who i'm talking about. Young man, my wife and I made that bangle on your arm." He hoped that would clarify a few things for the young captian. --
Aeos was home again. He managed to apprehend the ball of fur that was Ozzy in his arms. This was after the canine tackled and licked Aeos face until he was thoroughly coated in dog slobber. The young dragon had his medium sized pup under his arm and held him like he would a bottle or little barrel. Aeos used his free hand to wipe the drool off his face and cast it aside to the desert sands.
"It's too hot for you to be that excited boy." He cautioned. Not that that stopped the dog from trying and failing to wriggle out of his grasp.
"Mom! I'm Home!" The young dragon shouted before knocking on the door. There was a click on the door and it swung inward. Revealing the figure of a smaller mid to older aged woman. A woman with long black hair tied into a long braid. Bits of her hair showed several gray hairs. She had striking eyes and Aeos' tanned skin.
"Oh welcome home my little 'amal!" She spoke in a happy tone before dragging her son inside. Her joy quickly shifted to concern when her eyes caught the subtle changes in her son's appearance and demeanor. She sat the boy down and quickly gave him a cup of water as well as a wet rag to wipe his face down with. Aeos quickly gulped the water and took a moment to let it all sink in. He was home. This was his mother. He was alive. And this wasn't some terrible mirage or dream. And then he broke down. He told his mother all of the troubles he went through at sea. What he had to do. And what he experienced as a cast away. All the fears he endured. The doubts and guilt he had. It was all spoken in broken fragments of the dragonic language.

Gar ran his thumb over the armband Aeos’ parents had made for him. That was when he actually pieced it all together. He laughed happily. Here he thought this man could’ve been a threat, but he was just his best friend’s father. “Hahahar. The pleasure’s all mine. I really appreciate the armband, I wear it all the time. You should know, you raised a great guy.” Gar reached out to take some of groceries off Yasin’s back. He began to walk, allowing Yasin to lead the way.
“Aye, I’d be happy to joing you for dinner. Aeos is around town too, but I’m sure he’ll find you. As for what we’re doing here, my crew and I are restocking for our trip to Bern. We’ll also be stopping in Lycia. Aeos did mention that there was a chance his parents would be here too. I just didn’t except you to find me before he got to you.”
As they walked, Gar took a solid look at the large man. It wasn’t every day that Gar same someone taller than he was. The strange part was that Aeos didn’t entirely share the size of his father. It could have something to do with the aging of dragons. Perhaps Aeos still had some growing to do in his human form. If that was true, then dragon form could also be even larger than the first time he had seen it.
Now that Gar thought about it, he had now met three dragons that he knew of. Soon four if Yasir’s wife was around. How many people could actually say that? To think, Gar once considered them to be a myth. He sure feels foolish whenever he thinks back to those times.

"Ah, hearing you like our gift fills my heart with pride. You let us know if it ever needs any repairs. We will be happy to fix it for you. As for us being here, my 'amal has a point. This usually isn't the season for us to be here. But, the sandstorms have prevented us from traveling. Which is fine. In a few weeks, it will be the season for shark and we will have to be here regardless." The burly man commented.
"Appreciate the help with the bags." He nodded.
"I warn you though, home is not in the best part of town. We don't make enough to live within the city itself. We rent a sea shack in the fringes of the slums. Makes traveling back and forth through the city difficult. It's why I try to get most of the shopping done in one trip. Might need to make a quick stop in the market for one or two more things. Might need to hide your axe under your clothes." He stopped walking for a moment and turned around. The large man took a moment to put two and two together and stepped around behind Gar to look at the axe.
"Hold on, is that June?" Yasin could feel something of the axe. But, like his son, he could not communicate with it.
"The letters make June seem like a person sometimes so I suppose I should give it a proper welcome too." He grinned.
"You just let me know if June needs anything. A whetstone, polish, a new handle. I'll be happy to provide what we can." Yasin gave Gar another firm pat on the shoulder before re-leading the way through the city. Yasin already took a shine to Gar and saw him like a second son. Even though this was the first time they had ever met in person. He hoped he was making a good impression on Gar just like he did on Euphemious.
"So tell me Gar, how's life on the sea? Your folks and crew and such?" --
It wasn't long before the pair of them finished what errands that needed to be done. After some careful guidance, the two men made their way out of the city and into the slums. They passed through the more colorful areas of the city before passing through the gates and out into the city limits. They passed through the slums and out towards the little shack. Ozzy the dog ran out to greet the two companions. The little flea bag excitedly darted between both sets of legs before trying and failing to get the jump on Yasin.
"Ozzy! Calm down ya little rascal!" Yasin spoke in a stern but friendly manner before ushering the dog to calm down with orders in the Dragonic tongue. The dog complied and returned to it's home. Which was an overturned wheel barrel with a square cut out of one of its sides to serve as an entrance.
"Joury I'm back and I brought a guest!" Yasin exclaimed as he made his way over to the door. The door open revealing the woman and he child inside. Aeos waved softly to Gar. Joury quickly ushered both of them in. There was the scent of good seafood stew in the air. And the home was modestly adorned with all sorts of trinkets from the past. The floor had several squares of colorful mats lying about to keep feet clean. Joury quickly ordered where the groceries had to go.
"Oh Yasin you made it right on time. 'amal is home. And oh and is this Gar?" The long haired woman asked with genuine curiosity in her voice. Aeos had told her that he was here with Gar. And that he was to find him in the city after he confirmed that they were indeed in the area.
"Yes my dear this is Gar. But, first Flowers for you my sweet." Yasin pulled from the basket the bouquet of yellow flowers. Joury kissed him on both cheeks before putting the sweet smelling plants in a vase of water and setting it on the table.
"Ooh come now Gar let me get a good look at you. You must be parched after the walk to get here. 'amal sweet heart go fetch some water."Aeos sighed softly and did what he was told he fetched two mugs of cool water from the barrel they kept indoors. He handed them the mugs to both. Once the two of them finished their waters, only then did Joury step forward to get a good look at Gar. The woman did the most sensible thing a mother would do when meeting their son's friend for the first time. She pulled him into a hug and welcomed him home.
Joury was different than Yasin. She looked more like her son in height, skin, and appearance. She had long black hair like her boy did. But hers was a bit more wavy, due to the fact that she usually kept her hair in a braid. She was reasonably attractive for a woman who was in her thousands. Appearing to be more like a woman who had hit her mid-fifties and stayed there. She had her fair share of wrinkles but it showed that she took care of herself. Her attire was that of a desert woman. A sort of sari and pair of simple pants. A simple red bindi on the middle of her forehead signified that she was a married woman.
"Come! Come! Sit! Do you need something? Food, drink, sleep?"

Gar smirked. He didn't know what amal meant, but if he knew anything about parents it would probably be embarrassing for Aeos. He would have to keep that in mind if he ever needed to give Aeos flak for some reason or another. Gar replied to Yasin's thanks. "Not a problem, its the least I could do really." The man went on to speak of his shack in the slums and the ne'er do wells who also live there. "I've been to the rough areas of many towns. I can handle anyone who tries to swipe my axe."
The weapon pulsed when it's name was mentioned. It was a faint light that emanated from Gar's back. "Aye this is June." Gar shifted his shoulders to let the weapon face the older man.Greetings Yasin. I may have to take you up on your offer. My current form feels somewhat undistinguished. Gar relayed the sentiment. "June wants to take you up on your offer. June's previous form had these wings like an angel. I've been wanting to make the spirit feel a little more comfortable in this new home."
Gar continued to follow Yasin, happily answering his questions. "Life at sea is... turbulent. There are a number of bad eggs out there that I've been meaning to remove. But all in all, I have a good setup. I have a fortress on Caledonia, my crew is loyal and getting stronger by the day." Looking back Gar had grown quite a bit in the past few years. He rarely gets time to think back on his accomplishments, but he was proud of himself. He had to imagine he parents would be as well. The berserker smiled. "Aye my parents are good. Settled down north of Badon. I don't write them as much as I should since I know they worry." Gar thought briefly if he should write them to tell them he was planning on visiting.
" After were finished up here, our next stop is going to be Badon. I'll see them again soon enough." Gar kept his eyes active as they made their way through the city outskirts. The two eventually made it to the place Yasin called home. At least for the time being. The presence of a dog gave Gar pause. He had to wonder if it was some type of dragon dog or something, but he kept his question to himself lest he look foolish. Gar quickly raised his chin to acknowledge Aeos once he waved.
"Aye I'm Gar. Ahoy." Gar put down the portion of the groceries that he was carrying in order to accept the water. Gar downed the drink quickly and wiped his mouth. He clearly hadn't realized how thirsty a person gets in this desert town. Gar returned the hug the Joury offered him. Honestly, he was just glad that she didnt pinch his cheeks and say how cute he looked.
Gar was told to sit. Gar plopped down on one of the colorful mats, assuming that was where he was supposed to sit. His feet were on the ground and his elbows rested upon his knees. After so much time at sea, food drink and sleep all sounded good. That said, it was probably courteous to only ask for little. "I could certainly go for some food." Gar turned to Aeos. "I cant remember the last good meal we ate. Can you?"

"Aye, Bad eggs are everywhere. The important part is to find them and get rid of them before they spoil the whole batch. I think that metaphor was talking about apples rather than eggs." Close enough. I'm sure he knew what I meant. Yasin commented.
"As for June. Hmm.. Well, it's been a while since I've had to spruce up an ax. I'm more of a Spearman myself. But, I'm handy with a forge. I'll see if we have the resources and the time to make June comfortable in his own skin. Least we can do is give June a good sharpen and polish." He turned back to glance at the weapon upon Gar's back.
"Might be the axe equivalent of a hot bath and a manicure. Which doesn't sound half bad now that I think on it." He smirked lightly.
"Gar that is unacceptable, you should write to your parents more. A parent never stops worrying about their child. It's just one of those facts of life. You could be living in the lap of luxury and a parent will be wondering if you are being fed well." He sighed. He couldn't even begin to count the nights he had stayed up looking at the night sky wondering if Aeos was alright. Wondering if he was raising his own son right. Wondering if this world would eventually find out about them. -
"I'm sure Yasin talked your ear off on the way over. But, in case he didn't. I'm Joury. Aeos mom and Yasin's wife."
Joury pulled herself away from the hug and got up. To her Gar looked like one of those teenagers whose facial hair had come in and they didn't know what to do with them yet.
"It is a bit early fo lunch. But, an exception will be made today. Yasin, 'amal, you two be sure to set up the yurt for Gar.'amal, help with the table. Fetch the drinks."
"Yes, 'umi." Aeos got up and poured mugs of water for everyone at the table. He then quietly took a seat next to Gar. He handed the sailor one of the various pillows that were on the floor.
"Sit on that. Your butt will thank you later." He spoke in a casual tone of voice. The young dragon did his best to keep a calm composure. But, inside, he was nervous as heck. He had butterflies the size of humming birds flapping around in his stomach. Aeos was no dummy. He knew that Gar was a sailor. A sailor who did good things with questionable methods. And his crew were borderline pirates. He knew that much. He learned that much after being stuck on a boat with them for the last month or so. But, he knew Gar to be a good person. A good captain. A good captain who was trying to do good things with what he had.
"I think it's been about a month or so since our last good meal." Aeos spoke. As he watched as both Yasin and Joury started to get the table set for lunch. Lunch would be a smaller version of dinner. A ladle full of good seafood stew and a basket of warm bread. The stew was chock full of shellfish and potatoes. The potatoes were bought from the market the day before and the shellfish was harvested from the shore line in the early dawn. The stew was comprised of fish broth, herbs, thickened with milk, and sweetened slightly with coconut. The stew pot over the fire was large. And it held more than enough stew to keep the family fed for a few days. After the bowls were served, Joury quietly pulled the stew pot off of the fire and let it rest just at the foot of the hearth. Enough to keep the meal warm but not enough to have it over cook.
"Yasin, it's too early for wine."
"But it's for a good occasion."
"No wine till dinner."
Yasin sighed and resigned himself to drinking wholesome water. He would have preferred tea but money was tight and they couldn't afford to replenish their tea supply. Another set of smaller bowls were set on the table. These were to collect the shells of the shellfish. Aeos grabbed his spoon and quietly spooned himself some soup. He took that first bite and quietly reveled in its flavor. It's good to be home.

Gar shifted and placed the pillow underneath his rear. The smell of the stew was fantastic to the berserker. Gar's mouth was almost watering while it was being prepared. Naturally, Gar was a fan of seafood and were potatoes are welcome in a hearty meal. Gar actively tried to mind the manners he possessed. He was never trained in proper eating etiquette, but he was still polite enough as a guest in another’s house. After a few spoonfuls, Gar let out a satisfied breath. “Thanks a lot it’s very good.” Gar was both being polite and honest.
The berserker smirked at the notion of wine at midday. It was quickly shot down, understandably so. Water was a welcome replacement to Gar. His earlier mug was refreshing, but he could probably drink a few more before he was fully rehydrated.
Gar decided to start some conversation as he ate. He wanted to learn more of Aeos’ parents and their lifestyle. He spoke in between spoonfuls of the seafood stew. “So what is it like? Travelling all the time? I get my fair share of sailing, but I imagine it would grow tiresome on land.” Gar listened, interested in the nomadic lifestyle. In a different life, he likely would’ve been a nomad himself in Sacae. He asked Aeos his next question. “Do you ever miss travelling like that?”
Once he finished his bowl of stew, he placed the bowl and spoon down and wiped his mouth. “Thanks again for the meal. How should I take care of the bowl?” Gar was offering to clean his own dish, he just didn’t know where he should go to do so.

"The life of a nomad is a difficult one. We have to travel due to our conditions. But, there is always so much danger on the road. Bandits, monsters, supply shortages, and the occasional freak weather. There are things out in the deeper end of the desert you don't want to meet. That is why our paths usually hug the mountains and coastlines until we reach civilization." Yasin commented in between bites. He was a bit meticulous with his food. He liked to pick the shellfish out of the broth and eat it separately. He used a fork to pick out the meat from the shells before plopping it into his mouth.
"Some of it might be boring. Repeated places. But, there is some excitement in the day to day. What happens in one season might not happen in the next. Villages you've come across a year ago might be completely abandoned, destroyed, or thriving." Joury liked to soak her bits of flat bread into her broth for a bit before spooning it into her mouth. She liked to finish the soup and leave the shell fish for last.
Aeos didn't speak much as he was a bit too busy stuffing his face full of stew. He was about half way done when Gar addressed his question. Aeos took a moment to pull the meaty half of a shellfish out of his mouth, then plopped the empty remains into the shell bowl. He looked up at his folks for a bit they were looking back at him waiting for his response. The young dragon sighed.
"I'd be lying if I said no. I do miss that life. I miss my parents. I miss the routine. But, try as I might, I am not sure I can return to it. There is so much of the world that I've got to see and experience on my own. Stuff that I can't really get with these guys." Aeos raised his open palm to them.
"We worry about you 'amal. We know the world is not kind to us. We've seen it. Lived through it." Joury spoke with some concern in her voice.
"Nothing will ever stop us from worrying about you. But, you are practically a man. We know you need to find your own way in this life. But, know that there is always a place for you with us. And that goes for your companions." Yasin pointed to Gar.
"You hear that Gar. You know of us, know how we look, and live like. We trust you. And we hope you trust us. Should you ever find yourself wanting a change from the life of a sailor come find us." Joury commented.
"We'd be happy to give you the grand tour of this sandy wasteland we call home."
"Yasin!"
"What it's true!" He smirked.
"Yes, you can experience the wonders of life with my parents. Complete with the off key singing, rowdy animals, sand, and camel hair in awkward places." Aeos chimed in for a moment before lifting the bowl to his face and drinking the remaining broth. He put the empty bowl down. He then took a swig of his water and let out a content sigh.
"The food is spectacular as always mom. Thank you." Aeos bowed his head lightly.
"Your welcome. On both counts. Has Aeos cooked for you yet. Believe it or now his version of this stew rivals mine."
"It does not."
"You can leave the shells in the bowl. We collect them. They get crushed and sold to the gardeners as fertilizer. The sand and sun make it impossible for regular crops to grow. So the people tend to have indoor gardens with imported soil in their homes." Yasin commented as he started to collect the empty bowls.
"Don't you worry about the clean up. You are a guest here. Ah yes that reminds me will you be staying overnight or do you have other sleeping arrangements?" --

The notion of being a nomad had always intrigued Gar. But just as Joury stated, the monotony of it all could be boring. The seas likely had much more variation. Although they too had their own patterns and routines. Gar nodded as Aeos spoke his thoughts on returning to the nomadic lifestyle. His parents commented about their concern about Aeos' wellbeing, as parents do.
Gar took a moment to try and ease their worries somewhat. "If you makes you worry any less, Aeos has a couple of pretty strong allies." Gar continued. "Ones that would be sure to help him out of any trouble he gets into." Clearly Gar was referring to himself, maybe Nayru would give an assist as well if need be. Gar didn't entirely know the ins and outs of their relationship.
"Hahar, I appreciate the invitation, but I'll probably be sticking to the sea." Gar also chose to reciprocate the sentiment. "Also if for whatever reason you find yourself on the isles, there's a certain fort on Caledonia that will always welcome you."
Gar handed off his bowl to the large dragon and rose with purpose. "Well, I intend to help in someway here, I've come from a place where people earn their keep. Even if thats just chopping fire wood." Gar's axe pulsed at his back. I am certain that you aren't intending to use me for this task. Am I correct?
Gar glanced over his shoulder with a smirk. Aye, I'll find a woodcutting axe. Gar was questioned about his plans of sleeping. He stretched as he spoke. "I ought to head back into town for the night, make sure my crew doesn't cause a ruckus." With that, Gar went to go take care of a couple chores until around sundown.
The time came for Gar to make his way back to the docks. He respectfully nodded his head as he spoke to the elder dragons. " It was a pleasure to meet you both, you're very kind and have raised a great guy." Gar began to walk out before he had to turn back and address Aeos with a smirk. "Oh and we're leaving a little after midday tomorrow so spend some time with your family, 'amal." Gar walked off chuckling to himself. _____________ It was departure time and Gar's crew was surprisingly well behaved. They must have enjoyed their time in Kahn Yunis. They were rejuvenated and ready for the next leg of their journey. Once everyone and everything was accounted for, Gar gave the order. "We're pushing off! Next stop, Badon! "

The rest of the day's chores went by quickly with Gar's help. Joury took care of the domestic chores. Cleaning and dusting. She pulled the shirt off of Aeos' back and deemed it to be unacceptable. She would have done that to his pants too but she figured she had embarrassed him enough today. Almost did the same to Gar. She patched together any holes. Aeos was given one of his dad's spare shirts for the time being. Yasin gathered together the things he needed to give June a good sharpening and polish. Since he was a dragon, June's magic could not affect him. So he had to use his own strength to move and maneuver June, which wasn't so bad. Yasin was no stranger to lifting heavy things. Those arms he sported weren't just for show even if the rest of him showed signs of age. Yasin got the feel for June very quickly. And once the sharpening and polishing were done, he held up the mighty axe in the sun for a moment.
"Perfect." He spoke and then set the axe down. He let it lean against the wall.
"June I hope you feel as good as you look." Yasin spoke to the axe after his job was done. Aeos, on the other hand, decided to do most of the outdoor chores. The scraping noise of the whetstone to June's blade made him uncomfortable. It gave him a moment to spend time with the animals and explain to Gar the importance of each to a nomad. Especially, the camels. They provided so much. Their milk was drinkable. Their meat was edible. And their hair is sellable. Also, their dung could be used to start a campfire. Not that the sailor needed to know that part but Aeos shared it with him anyway.
"I'm kinda glad I don't have to set up the yurt. I cut myself every time in the process." He spoke as he filled up the water trough with a bucket of water. The water needs to be replaced every so often. The desert heat causes the water to dry up and leave the animals thirsty.
By sundown, most of the chores were done. And Yasin was preparing the home for nightfall. He had a few torches at the ready for outside and there was oil in one lantern. When Gar left Aeos was standing in the middle of the home with his arms outstretched. Joury was going to make a whole new set of clothes for him or die trying. She gave him a warm farewell. A hug and a kiss on the forehead. Aeos waved him goodbye for now and he would see him tomorrow. Yasin escorted Gar back to the city. -
Next Day
Aeos bid his family goodbye. Joury did well on her promise to give Aeos new clothes. He returned to the ship with a good leather cloak. A red short-sleeved tunic and the holes in his pants had been patched up. He was also given a new journal to make new memories with. And some jars of dried fish and spices. He also got a new canteen for water. By, new he meant old, but it was new to him. Both, his parents went to the docks to see both Aeos and Gar off. Joury was in a peasant's cloak and had a basket with her. No doubt she'd be helping Yasin with the groceries. Aeos boarded the boat and greeted Gar. Once everyone was accounted for, Gar gave the order and they were off.
