"I'll take point then. Extend the formation out to the sides, Gentlemen, if you please." Besides avoiding presenting her back to two unknowns, which would be foolish even without them being Bernese, it would give them a wider view of the area. It sacrificed the ability of the flanks to keep the lead safe from other directions for better and wider view of the ground. Since she wasn't expecting any other flyers to appear from no where though, that was an acceptable trade.
She moved, keeping their high elevation as they rode the wind closer to the building they'd been referencing.
"Easy Shugo. Let's not get ahead of ourselves." She commented to the excitable... child. He'd called her "Miss Clair." She found herself a little amused by that. It was not a form of address she'd had the chance to grow used to.
"I'm sure there's someone in the area, but I want to make sure of who it is before we actually do any attacking. If we do run into someone, just do your best to get those wyverns of yours' to look big and menacing." Corona snorted, offended that she'd given that job to the flying lizards, when he was clearly capable. She snickered under her breath at the pegasus and patted his neck softly. "Sorry Ol'Boy. Can't have you doing all the work now, can we?" Clearly, Corona thought that they could, from his energy levels.
Below was their target. A two story building with a watchtower. Five foot high walls, lined the front and sides, though they weren't completely sealing the area off. There was a wide gap in the front that people could walk straight through, and the back was wide open, with a barely used trail leading further up the hill it was placed on. The trail, what little there was of it, went off into more trees and scrub growth as near as she could tell. All in all, not a very defensible position. The walls were not meant to be held, and the building itself looked like it had seen better days. That was what it looked like from above anyway.
She let them take one pass over the watchpost, and glanced over the area. Not quite as empty as she'd thought. There were signs of traffic in the yard, but it certainly didn't look well used. The area around looked rough, as did alot of the Bernese hills and mountains, with tree cover scattered further up and down the hill as you went.
After taking a moment more to give it one more once over, Clair started to descend, arcing the formation around in a turn as she began the downward spiral.
"Shugo." She only said the one word to get his attention before pulling her shining golden Thunder Lance out and using it to signal for him to dive. She'd dive next and Eren would be left last to dive, all three taking one side of the building as they hit the ground.
The worn boards looked as though the weather had not been kind to the shack as the years had gone by, but it still didn't look like there was anyone using it. The small window she could see was dark, and the glass, if there ever had been any, was knocked out.
"Let's look around, but I don't think they'll be here. Too exposed, even with the view of the rest of the area." She said, noting how she could see the other smaller hills and a road far off in the distance. Further up the hill she couldn't see much because of the terrain and the foliage.

The flight was quick and uneventful; Clair Feldsky, whoever she was, did know how to fly. That much Eren noticed from the brief jaunt. Her body language screamed experience; her mount was comfortable and alert. Eren had to hand it to her; clearly she'd been doing this for a while. That made him feel better about working with her, although doubts still swirled in his mind.
As Shugo and Clair dove, Eren prepared himself when he saw something glint. Movement. It caught his attention, and Mika reacted instinctively, rolling hard to the right as Eren held onto her neck, hearing an arrow whistle past.
"Dammit," Eren muttered to himself. "Could've shot at the one pegasus, but no, gotta shoot at me. Figures." With the others still diving, unaware of the danger, Eren took matters into his own hands. As Mika neared the small ledge of the watchtower, Eren sheathed his axe and leaped off of his mount, grabbing the ledge with both hands and grunting as he flipped his legs over, immediately diving down into a crouch to take cover and quickly moving into the watchtower's central room. There! A form, moving down the stairs!
"Clair, Shugo!" Eren roared as he charged after the figure, drawing his axe again. "Company coming down the stairs! One with a bow!"
The mystery (wo)man raced forward, with Eren in hot pursuit, and the two arrived on the second floor within moments of each other. No luck; whoever it was just kept running.

Shugo moved into place and began to follow Miss Clair. It was a weird formation in Shugo's eyes. The boy had never flown with so much space between them. Shugo had always flow in a wing and close to each other. Though he had to admit he did not fly to many team missions with Wyverns. Most of the time it was just him and Valin flying together or that one time he flew with Eren. Then again he did fly with the Ilians back when he tried out for their armed force. Thought they flew more like a mob at the time than as a fighting unit. Still before a battle was not the time to think about his flying experiences. Shugo lined up with the other flyers and followed along. His eyes watched the ground watching for any sign of the enemy.
"Shugo", spoke Clair grabbing the young boy's attention. She motion with her lightning lance to dive. Shugo dived and then Miss Clair followed. The two landed, but something was strange. Mr. Eren was not with him. His absence clouded Shugo mind as Miss Clair spoke. Then suddenly Eren voice ran out from above as he warned them of a enemy assualt from a nearby stair case.
"Company coming down the stairs! One with a bow", shouted Eren. Shugo immediately drew his spear.
"Enemy in bound", spoke Shugo as he pulled the visor down on his helmet and began to move forward toward the location Eren had spoken of. Before hand Shugo was trained as a knight and as a knight he fought. He was not one for aerial assaults and fancy fling moves. Him and Luna worked as a team. Sure from time to time he would fight in the sky, but Shugo preferred to have his feet on the ground. Shugo motioned to Luna to take to the sky while he rushed forward toward the stairs hoping to catch whoever the enemy was off guard.

Clair heard the warning shouts from the watchtower atop the structure, and looked up in time to see Eren's head disappearing down the stairs into the second story of the building.
She gave Corona a quick jostle in the ribs with a "Forward!" Hissed in his ear in reaction, and within seconds the mighty pegasus she rode was diving up and into the air. Already, Shugo was heading for the groundfloor, and the doorway. She had to give him some credit for that. Even if he wasn't "old enough", he showed enough initiative that he would be able to do some good in a company of mercs. Even if Eren was willing to vouch for his skill, Clair was still interested to see what he could do.
The Flying duo picked their target carefully, Corona winging his way towards a second floor window as the Falcoknight pulled her legs up under her and prepared to launch herself off the saddle. At the last minute, Corona spun in the air, slowing and gliding away from the wall as the blond haired knight launched herself through the rugged window and rolled to a landing. A quick glance around showed her in a room sized appropriately for a bunkroom, but the footsteps from the hall were what she zeroed in on. Leaping forward, the sword at her side came free in a quick move as she headed to the entrance out to the hall.
She reached the hall just in time to see the mysterious bowman running past, and shot a thrust at the runner's ankle as they started down the stairs to the ground floor. There was a yelp and the blade came away red. A moment later, there was a crashing sound coming up to greet her from the bottom of the stairs.
"Stop running and you won't be harmed further!" Clair yelled, She stopped at the top of the stairs to see what kind of shape they were in still, but only caught a glimpse of the runner disappearing around the corner. She plunged down the stairs to give pursuit. She could hear Eren still moving nearby, but didn't stop to consider too much what he was up to. Shugo would have a chance to stop this person, and with all the flying mounts jockeying through the air outside, it was hard to imagine the runner making it past being ripped to shreds or crushed to powder if he actually did make it outside.

Swearing angrily, Eren continued to charge after the attacker, still mentally grumbling about being selected as the target. Suddenly, Clair's form appeared, and Eren's heart rose as he saw her make a quick slash to disable the assailant. His heart promptly plummeted again as the runner got away, tumbling down the stairs. At least there was still Shugo. Plus, he wasn't just going to give up.
"Excuse me, Clair," Eren said, still racing forward. Brushing past her, he continued his sprint to the stairs, halting suddenly. "...Never mind." Turning and sprinting to the window, Eren gave a two-tone, discordant whistle, and dove out of the aperture, disappearing from Clair's view.
Landing on Mika's back, who had come flying over, Eren shot down to the ground by where Luna was milling about. Leaping off of the wyvern, he took up stance outside the door, axe raised. Hopefully, Shugo would stop whoever was in there, but if not, he'd serve as the last line of defense.

Shugo rushed into the building hoping to cut off who ever it was they were chasing. From the sound from above it seemed like the others had made their move, but missed their mark. Rather than take the brute force approach to the situation Shugo decided it would be best to hide and wait. He heard the target coming in his direction. The boy counted the space in time between each step and waited patiently for the person to pass right by his position behind a cove in the wall. As the person passed Shugo stabbed forward with his spear. The boy made sure to aim left leg as it was closest and stabbed them directly in the knee.
He remembered his conversation with guard he had meet earlier. A arrow the the knee will topple the greatest man he said. Shugo did not have a bow and arrow, but he was sure a spear point would do the job. As he thought the person immediately fell to the ground as the Dragon Spear stabbed through the back of their knee. The shaft locked up their leg as they screamed from the pain. Not wasting a moment Shugo rushed forward and threw himself, and his heavy armor, onto the back of the target pinning them into the ground. Rather than pull out his Dragonspear from their knee shugo instead drew a knife from his boot and placed it on the targets neck. "Don't move", spoke the boy as he waited for the others to catch up.

Clair let Eren get by as well as she was able, and took note of his direction and the signal he gave just long enough to realize he was making his exit out the window. She wasn't familiar with the signal's meaning, but it was easy to recognize it as direction when so much of your combat effectiveness depended on controlling a mount. Mounts like pegasi and wyverns in particular needed to be highly trained to handle operating separate from their rider.
Sword forward, she rushed down the stairs, her feet tapping down the rickety wooden construct, and around the corner just in time for a somewhat comical sight. There was the runner sprawled out with the armored shugo sprawled across the fallen escapee. It reminded her a little of how the youngsters set on learning how to fight would try to wrestle with older siblings and parents to prove their worth. Except, this time, the kid was actually using live steel. Was actually throwing around some decent weight. If it wasn't such a tense situation, she would have been amused by the happenings. Instead, this person had taken a shot at Eren, and now their knee had been stabbed to hell by the little rider.
"Good catch, Shugo...." Clair said intently from a few steps behind. The hall was a bit narrow, but not too narrow for her to come up and join the small skyrider where he had the runner pinned. She kneeled down next to the pair, and grabbed the hood the runner wore before pulling it back.
"Let's take a look at who it is. You can get off. I don't think they'll be managing any more running." As the hood pulled back, it revealed waves of brown hair interspersed with a couple of corded braids. What else became apparent was the size and form of the runner. It was a woman. Someone used to the rigors of the wilderness, if her speed had anything to say about her lifestyle.
"Sit up against the wall. And tender on the leg, I need to take a look at it if you're interested in regaining its use." Clair watched the breathing of the woman, and heard the grown as she pushed herself up slightly. The archer began to turn over, and Clair noticed the tell tale signs of a deep breath right before some heroic act. The woman continued to turn over, and then whirled at the last possible moment, trying to whip a small belt knife at Clair. Almost like magic though, the striker ended up at Clair's mercy, strike disarmed, dagger on floor, and fingers about to be snapped off by the Falcoknight's hand grip. Clair applied a little more pressure, to where the shooter would have to roll over and lean back against the wall if she didn't want to end up with broken fingers. The transformation on her face was profound, going from a defiant and angry expression, to a wide eyed face full of panic. Little more than incoherent yelps escaped her lips at present, although Clair hoped that would change soon.
"Don't get any funny ideas. You could have just handed that to me. And then we wouldn't be in this position, now would we...." Clair eased the pressure back, and the yelping stopped. She didn't let go yet though.
"What's your name?" Clair could feel herself relaxing, oddly enough. Relaxing into the role of... she wasn't quite sure what. Someone that was going to protect herself, and these others for certain though. Her ice blue eyes watched the archer's movements, waiting for some sign of what was coming.
"You can go to Hell Ilian, befor- OwOWOWOW!" The Falcoknight could have sworn she heard a few knuckles pop that time, as she started wrenching on the archer's fingers one more time.
"You were saying?" Clair's eyes began to darken in color, taking on something more like the color of a storm cloud.
"Miranda! It's Miranda. Now just stop with the bloody knuckle busting!.. Oww...." Miranda glanced down to her knee. The spear wound was still apparent, and bleeding freely, though the spear itself had been dislodged in some of the movement. It looked bad. Clair knew that it was bad, but it wouldn't be life threatening, as long as they got to it.
"Keep talking, Miranda. We'll get to the leg in a moment. I'm being more than generous for someone who shot at us.... Why are you here, and how many of you are there.?
"You soldiers and fighters are all the same! All you care about are yourselves. You go off and fight for some great and worthy cause. Keep the peace! Protect innocents! Free the nation! It doesn't matter in the end, because when it gets down to it, you don't really care what it does to all the people in between. I'm just sorry that...." Miranda's eyes fell on Shugo, and her mood didn't seem to improve.
"Oh, you gotta be kidding me. I got my knee knocked out from under me by a snot-nosed brat?! Start'em young so that you can raise'em on the blood of kin and neighbors, yeah? What are you even doing out here, Dog-bait?"

"Well, hello there. What have we here?"
Eren had heard the commotion and managed to walk in as Clair was twisting the woman's arm, quite literally. Well, and metaphorically. And whatever other applicable adverbs he could come up with. In any case, she had the woman in quite the bind. Again, literal, metaphorical, and man, he'd have to quit doing things like that. It made him cringe inside.
"Now, I may not be a very frightening man to behold at first glance, but I'm quite unhappy right now, and that makes me unpleasant. I'm not a very patient man, especially when some failure of an archer shoots at me. To hell with diplomacy. Hold her, please, Clair."
Eren held the axe Valcrist had forged for him up, looking at its blade with satisfaction. The weapon was a fine piece of work, well-crafted and deadly. Its edge was keen and razor-sharp, glinting in the light, and the points of the blade were hooked, vicious barbs.
"Where is your main encampment? I'm only going to ask once before I chop off your left foot. And that will be our starting point. Care to talk, or would you like me to give my wyvern a nice morsel to chew on?"
Eren was not usually this rash and unpleasant, but he was fuming. Splitting mad. Ready to let loose and slice the woman into salami. Shooting at him like that? Uncouth. Completely uncouth.

The more the woman talked the more it ticked Shugo off. Every word she spoke was a insult to both Valin and his efforts. Valin fought for justice and for so other people can be safe. He threw his life at bandits and brigands and took a arrow to protect Shugo. Valin was a true knight. A man who fought to keep the peace. And here this brigand was talking about the man and his ideas as if they were garbage. Petty excuses, that was what every word that came out of her mouth sounded like to Shugo. She talked about how warriors and soldiers did not care about the people in between, but here she was raiding people and taking the things that belonged to them.
"Hypocritical", spoke Shugo as he looked down upon her. His eyes filled with hatred and his heart with pain. "Not only are you a hypocrite, but you are also disrespectful", spoke the boy in a tone that was not usually of him. "First off I am not dog bait", spoke Shugo in his angry voice. "I am a knight. A wyvern rider of Bern and protector of the peace and shield to all of those who can not defend themselves. I fight for those who can not fight. I fight for justice. I fight so that nobody has to go through what I went through. So nobody has to be kidnapped from their homes and turn around and see their parents murdered before their eyes." A tear escaped Shugo's eye as his emotions rushed back to him. Still the rider kept his cool and did not allow himself to cry. "If that is selfish then I am guilty", spoke Shugo.
As shugo finished speaking Eren walked in. Shugo could see the rage in his eye and simply moved out of the way. The young rider picked up his spar and leaned against the wall and waited till Eren was done. He had no more to say to the likes of her. If it was up to him he would have stuck a spear through her heart and been done with it. Who was she to insult soldiers. Who was she to insult Valin and all of those who fought to bring justice to the world. "

"Protector?! Pah!" Miranda spat out. "Where were the Bernese knights when my family's farm was occupied by rebels?! And what did the Ilian task force do to it and to us when they found them?! You caused all -OW OW!"
Clair had had enough. Words could be just as effective as swords, and Shugo looked to be struggling with some memories, so she twisted the archer's arm again. Probably fairly recent, if she guessed right. Clair had long ago given up her idea of being a white knight in this conflict. Ignorance made it easy, but you had to be aware that your actions on the battlefield would have repercussions reaching far beyond what you could predict. That was how war affected everyone.
About then is when Eren chose to enter. He looked calm, but the words he picked made it very clear that he was anything but. Clair's temper spiked a bit when he immediately jumped to lopping things off as a motivation, but she kept her head for a moment. She wanted to see if he really meant it.
She met Eren's eyes from where she was crouched, glaring back up at him. She knew where the law extended to when it came to protecting prisoners. And like it or not, that's what Miranda was now. She could see Miranda try to shrink back from the axe but she was trapped against the wall, and couldn't move much anyway.
"...Don't." Clair only mouthed the word, but she shifted to a more agile position where she was on the floor. Something she could spring out of if she needed to move quickly.
"I... These are the first people that helped me since my family was ruined." Miranda was breaking down into tears now. "My brother lost his arm, and... I don't know what we were s'posed to do with ourselves. Please don't hurt me anymore...."
Things were never simple in war. Not for the ones who wanted to actually help. It was easy to just go about and swing a sword at who you were told to, and that was what an army expected of its soldiers. Clair had never quite had that instilled in her though.

"There are always two choices in every scenario. There's usually more. The wise choice would have been not to shoot at three armed fliers, but, given that you decided that it was worth the risk, you now pay the price."
Eren's axe flashed suddenly, but it was not moving towards the woman. In fact, he'd slipped the weapon back into his harness.
"Quite frankly, there are plenty of ways to provide for a family. Banditry is certainly one, but I don't think you're cut out for the job. Now, if you value your family, their lives, and anyone else dear to you, you will inform me of the location of your main contingent, its size and relative strength, and how the structure housing it is guarded."
The Dragon Knight was still furious. The edge in his voice had gotten even sharper, and his mouth was a grim line, set like granite.
"Do not think about misinforming me or trying to lead me into a trap. I am not a perfect man, and one of my flaws is a lack of both patience and forgiveness. Do not test me. Now, you will speak, and speak truly. You will spare no detail. I want all of the information. If you're accurate, we might be able to avoid any unfortunate situations that might arise. You are lucky that Commander Feldsky is merciful."
Eren had made the deliberate decision to switch to using titles. He wanted to avoid giving out his full name, and had figure that the Ilian would wish the same. Now, if this woman would talk, they could get on with the operation. His patience had worn thin.

As Eren and Clair began to do their work Shugo grabbed his spear and sat by the wall. He had nothing else to say to the woman and he did not want to hear anything else she spoke. The young knight was at the end of his patience. Normally he would just kill bandits outright and would not bother with hearing their story or reason. He always figured their words would not be worth listening too and it seemed that his assumption was right. All she did was make excuses and throw stupid statements at him. Of course the Wyvern Knights were not there to protect her farm. How could they. They are not gods, nor are they omniscient. They are men and woman who dedicate their lives to trying to help others. They can't be there to stop every injustice, or to prevent every crime from happening. They can only deal with what was in front of them.
If only Bern was not in so much chaos. Only if Bern was united. If the nation was one then the rebels would not be occupying farms. If the nation was one then they could garrison every city. If the nation was one then they could wipe out the bandits. If the nation was one, maybe his own home would have never been destroyed. The problem striking Shugo in this situation is that Bern was weak. It was divided and was fighting amongst itself. The best way he could describe it was a pack of wolves with no leader. Everyone is running around doing their own thing and fighting each other trying to take control. No body is looking after the pups or making sure the den is protected.
"If we are wolves then we need a alpha", spoke Shugo aloud. Shugo did not even notice the words coming out of his mouth. The boy was in deep thought at the moment. He knew something needed to change, but at the moment he was powerless. Powerless to change things. Powerless to control. The only thing he could do not was act as a shield. He could throw himself in harm's way and defend others from harm. That was the path set before him. For now Shugo would be a shield.

Clair found herself almost snapping forward to intercept Eren's blow, only it never came. She glared at him, mad that he'd even suggested lopping her foot off in order to get the woman to talk. She had no idea of his temperament, or how far he would go, but that stunk of torture to her. She wasn't about to use permanent disfigurement and maiming to punish someone. In Ilia, things like that spelled certain doom for anyone who planned to continue living there.
"Not merciful. I just won't maim prisoners for failing to cooperate." Like it or not, that was what she was now. Their prisoner.
Slowly, Clair knelt back down to the injured prisoner and started looking over her leg.
"Prisoners.... Right." Miranda seemed to deflate a little, although she also looked extremely relieved that the dragon knight hadn't had his way with her. "Promise... Promise me you'll get my brother out safely. Promise me that, and I'll tell you everything. Without me around, they'll kill him, just for being an extra mouth to feed."
"It sounds as though you really are in a bad position then, Miranda. Perhaps you should have considered how this might turn out before you signed on with a bunch of cutthroats. Now tell us everything, and hold still while you do. I have to fix your leg up, or you'll end up losing it too. We'll look for your brother." Such a familiar story. "Not enough to live off of" led into "nowhere else to turn", and finally it landed the woman right in disaster. Clair could sympathize. Such choices often led to death in Ilia, unless the offender could find a way to escape the cage they made for themselves. Bern had shown a savagery that she fought to avoid in her life though.
"I... They're in a cave. We were in a cave, further up the hill, and opening out of the side of the hill. There's an entrance at ground level. It's well protected inside, and there's a source of water that runs through it.... I was keeping watch on the road when you three showed up. Ah!" She cringed as Clair began cutting torn material out of the injury in her knee, and cleaning up the pooling blood. Once it was mostly cleared, she took out a salve she carried, and applied the last of it to the injury, watching it quickly begin to seal off and close up the wound. It would dull the pain, and help the body recover, but it wouldn't actually fix it.

"Finally."
Eren rolled his eyes, itching to be moving. This woman was a good source of information, but she seemed intent on telling them her whole damn sob story.
"Look, we have a pirate base to raid. If you don't want us to kill your brother, tell us how best to invade the base, what their numbers are, and what your brother looks like. If I find him, I'll knock him out and drag his ass out of there for you."
By Hartmut, what was Clair doing? Surgery? They didn't have time for shenanigans like that. Just wrap the damn thing so that they could get a move on... It wasn't like the woman was some sort of ward they were supposed to be protecting. She was an enemy, and for Eren, that meant no mercy. Gender meant nothing on the field of battle. She should be grateful she was even alive.
"Let's go. Let's expedite this. There's not an unlimited supply of time."
Eren moved away, still steaming. This was going much, much too slowly for his liking. The woman needed to talk, he needed to get into the base, and he had to clear them out. Once that was done, he could relax. But not before.

Shugo leaned on the wall taking everything the woman said. Every word that came out of her mouth did nothing more than anger the young Wyvern Rider. Here she was, a bandit, trying to play him a sob story. This was the same woman that insulted them earlier and shot a arrow at Eren. Now she wants to beg for her brother's life and ask them for mercy. Did she show the other people mercy when they ambushed them on the road. Did she show the merchants she killed mercy. Everything inside of the young boy boiled like a heated pot until Shugo could take more.
"Pathetic", spoke the boy in a eerie tone as he pulled himself off the wall. "Pathetic", spoke Shugo again as he looked down on the maiden. "Here you are begging for your brother's life as if it was actually worth some value. Your bandits, no better than wild dogs. You kill other people for either pleasure or gold. You care not for their families, not for their lives, but only for your own selfish greed. Yet you want to stand before me and beg for your brothers forgiveness,", shouted Shugo! The boy was extremely angry and murder could be heard in his voice. "You all are nothing, but rabid dogs that need to be put down!" Shugo grabbed his spear. His eyes stared at the captured maiden's neck telegraphing where he wanted to plant his spear. His eyes however flashed over to clair and saw her face. The boy knew he would not get a blow in and figured it would only be a waste of time.
"Still pathetic", spoke Shugo as he got off the wall and began to walk away. The boy stopped for a moment and looked back at the prisoner. "Here is a warning for you. Prey to whoever you believe in, and hope that they intervene. Because if I run into your brother during this mission I promise you I will stick a spear through his throat and leave his body to the wolves. Thus is the fate he deserves", spoke Shugo as he walked toward the exit. "I will be waiting outside", he spoke.
