"What the F", shugo stopped himself as he stared at the large man. Shugo had never seen a man so big. His muscles were larger than Shugo's head and his arms look as if they were the length of Shugo's body. It was a frighting experiences. The young boy gripped his lance as he looked on. He was starting to feel it again. The thing he buried so deep and kept locked away, fear. Instinctively Shugo took a step back. He was just a boy. However his pride as a rider grabbed hold of him and pulled the man out of his little body. Shugo gave off a mighty battle cry and suddenly charged forward. The young rider had no delusions about beating the muscle man, but he was not so sure about the smaller man with the book. All he needed to do was to get by the big one and the small guy was his.
As the young boy charged he veered to the left. If the Beserker came after him then he would leave his comrade open to Eren. If he focused on Eren then the small man would have to fend for himself. It was a perfect plan on paper, but real life was sometimes more cruel. For all he knew the Beserker could be fast enough to both stop shugo in his tracks and put Eren down, though by his size Shugo doubted it. Then again the leader could not be so easy as well. Look at Shugo. He was what, twelve and he was still a fearsome opponent to face on the battlefield. Never judge a book by its cover, that was the rule Shugo taught other people. He was going to need to follow his own teachings and be prepared for the power the man could possibly have.
"Your head is mine", shouted Shugo as he made a sudden turn on his right foot and charged toward the book man at full speed. The boy held his lance at the ready as he moved to get into lunging range.

"I accept your challenge, Sky Rider."
Eren was slightly taken aback. The bandits had been expecting them... Word must have trickled down. But it was interesting; there had been no sight or sound of Clair, and no bandits were coming to attack them from behind... So she must have it under control.
Suddenly, Shugo shot past and went veering towards the two enemies. Eren's eyes flew wide as the Berserker shot his arm out with his axe with remarkable speed. Shugo managed to slip by, and as Nés turned to look at the Wyvern Rider, Eren took his chance and hurled his tomahawk. There was a sudden yell from the large, well-muscled man, as Eren's weapon sliced into his back and left a long gash.
"Pick on someone your own skill, Nés. Or are you afraid of me?"
The Berserker charged, and as Eren's tomahawk landed back in his grip, the Dragon Knight drew out his iron axe and swung it to meet the Berserker's huge axe of glittering steel.
There was a loud clang, and Eren stumbled backwards from the force of the man's swing, dodging to the side as he swung again.
"Damn it all to hell, you're one strong man!"
Nés laughed heartily.
"Yes I am, Sky Rider."
Meanwhile, as Shugo raced towards the Sage, the robed man raised his arms and gave an odd, guttural cry. It sounded like "Geass" or something along those lines, but the important part was not the words, but the giant wall of earth that erupted from the stone floor immediately in front of Shugo.
So that was the magic of earth...

so the big guy had no interest in him. That was good. That meant that Shugo could handle the other guy while Eren took out the big one. Well that is what Shugo thought, but suddenly a wall of earth erupted in front of him as if God himself placed it there. Its sudden appearance was shocking. "What the", spoke Shugo. The young rider had barely experienced magic and now it was right in his face, literally speaking. This however presented a big problem. If he could do this without little to no movement Shugo had to wonder what he could do if he actually tried. The wall itself was a good indicator of how powerful his opponent was. Also Shugo had to think of the strategic advantage of summoning up this wall. The mage would not wast his magic for nothing. If Shugo tried to go around the sides he would be sure to counter attack him, or worse the big man could simply be waiting for him. If shugo was going to attack him he was going to have to do so unexpectedly.
The young rider gained a brilliant idea. Instead of trying to go around the wall he would go over it. He would never expect it. Shugo took a few steps back and then charged forward. The boy wonder stabbed his dragon spear into the ground and used it as a jumping pole. With the extra boost of his spear and the speed of his run Shugo hopped onto the top of the wall. Looking down at the man Shugo jumped off the wall in an attempt to stab him with his iron lance. Normally he would use his dragon lance first, but he wanted to see what the man could do. For all he knew he could have some trick up his sleeves that can break weapons.

"Well, you may be strong... But I am fast."
Eren dodged another swing of the Berserker's axe, moving to the side as he tried to get a better angle. The Berserker was also pretty quick, and it was hard for the Dragon Knight to get an opening. But as Nés raised his axe, jumping towards Eren in a furious rage, he saw a chance.
The strong man had left an avenue for attack wide open when he raised his axe, and Eren's military mind and trained hands took full advantage. A sudden flick of his wrist sent his Tomahawk soaring, wheeling end over end like a saw blade, as the Dragon Knight leaped backwards.
The Berserker's axe crashed into the ground, and Eren looked on in grim satisfaction as slowly but surely, a growing pool of dark crimson flowed. Walking closer, Eren kicked the Berserker, then flipped his body, still warm, and extracted the Tomahawk that protruded from the man's neck.
"Good game, Nés. It was fun while it lasted, huh?"
Turning, Eren looked over at Shugo just in time to see a huge stone column collapse down, falling with surprising speed and ferocity towards the younger Rider.
"Shugo!"
Meanwhile... <OOC: Happens at the same time as the previous fight>
Lukas smiled as he viewed his handiwork - no doubt the boy would come running around the wall, right into his next trap. But instead, the boy came over the wall, and in shock and panic the Sage was late summoning a shell of earth to protect himself. It formed, slowing the boy's stab, but the lance still punctured the Sage's shoulder.
"Damn you, boy! Feel the wrath of Gaea!"
With that, the shell shattered, and Lukas retreated quickly, waving his good arm and causing a tall stone column to topple towards the Wyvern Rider.

Success, Shugo was surprised. He expected the mage to do better than that. The way he casually threw up the wall and showed off his magical power Shugo was expecting him to be a battle harden mage. Instead he found a fool who was so arrogant that he did not prepare a counter in case Shugo got around his trap. Sure not even Shugo would have thought he would have jumped onto the wall of earth and he was the one who attempted to do it. To be truthful the boy really did not think he would make it. However that did not mean that one should slack off on there defenses. So much for the powerful and intelligent mages Shugo read about in his bed time stories. Real mages were weak and arrogant.
Still the mage managed to stop the spear from outright killing him. A mistake Shugo was keen on quickly fixing. However that plan was going to have to be placed on hold. Suddenly the earth began to move again as the mage casted another spell. A giant pillar of earth suddenly erupted from the ground and began a attempt to crush the lad. Shugo, still new to magic, did not see the attack coming till the last minute. The boy jumped to escape the attack, but the force from its impact threw him off balance and caused Shugo's head to hit the ground real hard. Most of the force from the blow was absorbed by Shugo's helmet, but the impact still knocked Shugo out. The young rider laid in the dust unconscious as the mage made his escape.

With the Berserker out of the way, Eren turned full attention to the Sage and his comrade, who had been slammed down by the impact. The shock wasn't too severe; Shugo was probably knocked out, at the most. But he was still an incapacitated comrade. Which meant Eren had to pick up slack.
The Dragon Knight rushed forward, tomahawk in one hand and iron axe in the other. He'd keep Lukas on the defensive until Shugo reawakened and could rejoin the fight.
As Eren approached, he saw the Sage wave his uninjured arm, and a wall of dirt began to erupt from the ground. But the Dragon Knight was already close to the point of its emergence, and he hurdled the budding blockade with ease and continued to charge. As the stones of the floor rose and hurled themselves at him, Eren batted them aside with his axe and raced nearer, nearer, nearer, until the very floor itself rose in a slope that caused him to lose traction, eventually falling backwards and then tumbling back to land in a heap near Shugo. So much for that plan.
But the Sage was tired. If Eren and Shugo could capitalize on his weakness now, they could defeat him.
"Shugo! Shugo, wake up! We have to defeat the Sage! He's weak. Shugo, arise!"
The Dragon Knight shook his young ally's shoulder vigorously. He had to get up, now! He was breathing, Eren could see that... But there was no time to rest. They had to fight!

"Ouch", spoke Shugo as he awoke from his slumber. The young rider could barely remember what was going on. Eren's voice had reached him, but his mind had not placed everything back together. The boy paused for a moment looking at Eren with unemotional eyes. Then everything clicked and Shugo hopped back to his feet. "We need to slay the mage", shouted Shugo as he ran off. He was at first going the wrong way, but he soon turned around and moved to assault the master of magic. By now Shugo was sure that he had some spell planned for them, but Shugo was ready. The only reason he got hit last time was because of the poor performance he showed at the beginning of the battle. If he had showed more skill and tack Shugo would not have let his guard down. It was a bit ironic. Shugo was disappointed in him for underestimating him, but Shugo did the same thing to the sage right after that.
"Got to watch that", spoke Shugo as he charged forward. Shugo was sure the sage would probably focus more of his attack on himself than Eren. So rather than move as one with the Wyvern Lord Shugo moved to the opposite side of him and charged forward that way. This kind of assault prevented the sage from attacking both of them at once and anything he would use to do that would have to be wide. The wider the attack the easier it was to dodge, thought Shugo. His earth magic seemed to have a log when he did large attacks. That meant all of his wide attacks would also have the same lag. If he opened himself up like that Shugo was sure Eren would take advantage and put a axe in the fool's chest from afar.

Shugo awoke with a start, and surprised Eren by suddenly shouting out "We need to slay the mage" and running off in the opposite direction. Then, as Eren rose, confused, Shugo shot back past him, coming at the Sage from another angle.
Another angle.
Almost like a pincer attack.
Eren smiled. Shugo was dependable, no matter what judgements others passed on him for his age. He showed surprising grasp of strategy, and Eren saw only good things resulting from the years of flying, fighting, and hopefully training he had ahead of him. Shugo would grow up to be quite the fearsome warrior - Eren could tell already.
But now there was a task at hand that required focus. There was a Sage, and he could use the power of the earth to frightening effect. This required either a distraction or a ranged attack. Eren had both, but Shugo lacked range. Therefore, Eren should provide the distraction... Allowing Shugo to move in for the strike. This was going to be a gamble.
Eren roared out, charging the Sage and holding a Spear in throwing position, his eyes bulging and his teeth bared as he let forth a feral yell.
Lukas, taken aback, turned and spread his hands apart like he was parting a curtain. Acting purely out of instinct, Eren dove to the side, rolling as he unceremoniously flopped onto the earth and throwing the Spear at the Sage, who had just split a crevasse open in the floor where Eren had been standing seconds earlier.
The projectile never reached its mark, as the Sage managed to backpedal so that it sailed past him. But in doing so, it had brought him closer to Shugo, who now had an exposed shot at the man's unprotected back.

Long range and mid range, that was the two types of attacks the sage had to dodge. Eren could strike at range with his spear and Shugo could stab him at mid range with his lance. The two did a good job of forcing the magic users hand. As he dodged Eren's spear assault he left himself open for Shugo. It was a foolish move. Shugo had already shown himself capable of slaying him in there first encounter. Now he was giving the young boy his back. He probably thought that Shugo was the least threatening of the two. In this instant he was right. Eren was far the more fearsome fighter. However Shugo was no slouch. He had been fighting since he was first kidnapped and taken away from his home.
As the sage backpedaled to give himself room to dodge Eren's spear Shugo rushed forward. The young boy lowered his body and charged forward with all of his might. The first time Shugo missed his opportunity to kill him. This time he was not going to make the same mistake. The young wyvern rider aimed his spear so that it would pierce the man's heart. If he was lucky he could kill the sage instantly. If he was not then the man would still be alive and probably very angry. Thought his time alive would be very short. Shugo had no intention of pulling his spear out so healing would not be a factor.
A crimson haze filled the air as Shugo slammed his body into the sages. His spear was plunged into it's target not only by the strength of the young boy's arms, but also by momentum of his charge. It was a technique Shugo had learned before he started to fight with Luna. Back in the days he was a humble recruit. Shugo was no stranger to fighting on foot.

Yes! The tactic worked to perfection - Eren got up from the floor, charging towards the sage, even as he saw Shugo's dragonspear emerge like a bamboo skewer from Lukas's front. It was a strangely satisfying feeling, watching the man's face crumple and his body slacken as he slowly slumped down. Picking up his fallen spear, Eren walked over and poked it gently at the man's wide-open eyes. No response. He was dead.
"Well done, Shugo. That was tough, but we got him. You fought really well. I'm proud. One day, I believe you'll surpass me and become a great Sky Rider in your own right. Keep fighting, Shugo, and keep flying. The world is open to you."
Looking around, Eren saw a strange outline near the bandit leader's 'throne,' and, upon closer inspection, saw that there was space behind the throne... A tunnel. Throwing his weight against the chair, the Dragon Knight slid it aside to reveal a long passage and the faint glow of light at the end. White light. The light of the outdoors.
"All right! The clever bastard had himself an escape route... Let's use it and get out of here, Shugo."
Without further ado, Eren set off down the tunnel, whistling. As he came to the edge, he stepped out onto a small landing on the side of the hill, and, looking up, saw two forms circling in the sky - two triumphant wyverns. Eren smiled as he waited for Shugo. They'd call their mounts together, and ride off. Perhaps they'd get a drink for a job well done.

"Yeah thanks", spoke Shugo as he pulled his dragonspear out the man's back. Shugo was half listening to Eren and half worried. Sure they had killed the leader, but that did not stop the bandits. The rest of the horde was still behind that door. Shugo wanted to simply go over there and open the door up and kill the rest of them. However that was not possible. The bandits were to strong and too numerous for that to happen. Instead Shugo would have to be happy with just cutting the head off the snake.
"Umm, right", spoke Shugo as Eren finished talking. The Wyvern Knight went off to find the escape route. Man they were lucky. If they had to go back the other way they would have been doomed. Still it made Shugo wounder why did the sage not use his escape route when he had a chance. Did he underestimate the two of them. Shugo woundered if it was because of him. Everyone always looked down on him because of his age. In a way thought it had its advantages. If the sage had made a run for it then they would have had a hell of a time giving chase. Not to mention some of those bandits would have probably killed him if they had not let down there guard. Thou have to take life in strives.
As the duo walked out the cave Shugo was meet with Luna swinging by. "Luna", he shouted. Shugo was happy to see his white scaled companion once again. Rather than let Luna land and then fly off Shugo jumped off the edge of the cliff. The wyvern dipped low and Shugo landed on its back and began to soar into the sky. "Come on Eren we need to leave before the other brigand's break down the door."
The truth of the matter was not that Shugo was worried, but he was actually just happy to be back in the sky. The heavens had become Shugo's home and being underground was a bit foreign to him. There was nothing like the open air to set ones heart ablaze.

"Mika!"
As his mount swooped down, Eren leaped onto her and the two shot up to match pace with Shugo and Luna. As the two wyverns soared through the sky, the faint echo of laughter echoed as the two Riders talked and joked with each other. The trials of the day were over; they had emerged victorious, having defeated the bandit captain and secured peace for the villages that had been living in the shadow of the barbarian horde.
It was a satisfying feeling, having done good deeds for innocents, and having driven out some of the evil that had taken control of Bern in the wake of the damned Ilian occupation. He had fought well, fought hard, and fought the good fight. He had overcome the foe with wit and will... and of course, weapons.
"Shugo! Let's go to the tavern. A hot meal and some drinks seem in order to me! We've certainly earned it. Good fight, my young friend. Let's fly!"
The two soared off into the sky, as the golden sun glowed down upon them. The air was cool and crisp, and the wind was refreshing as the mighty wyverns raced through the air, content in their natural environment. The feeling of pride that accompanied a job well done spread through Eren, and he smiled, swiping the few strands of hair aside that had escaped his headband and stretching, patting Mika on the head.
"Good job, Mika. You fought well. I'm proud, and I couldn't have done it without you!"
