"Only monsters have no emotions"
Liam was lost in thought for a brief moment. He had spent so much time alone, void of emotions, he didn't want to out live his current emotion. Perhaps the humans were right that dragons were monsters, a house isn't a home when your loved ones are gone. He had vaguely heard her say 'thank you' while he was lost in his own thoughts, once he heard her voice stop for a moment he gave her a simple response "You're welcome".
Aria's determination to not only help Liam, but to help his dream lifted his spirits a bit. Depression was an unwelcome friend of Liam from before the Scouring, back then he had lost his will for self care, he had skipped many meals. Like back then, he didn't feel like having the dinner that Aria set for him, when she had shown interest in his bowl of soup he looked at her for a second before forcing a smile. "Be my guest." He then pushed to bowl in front of her. He had noticed her fidgeting with her belongings, he had excused himself to get some fresh air so she would have some privacy for a few moments. By time he had returned she had been sewing the hole in her shirt, he sat down without a word watching her. To avoid interactions with the locals he had taught himself how to mend his clothes, he thought was decent at it but watching Aria he ran a finger across his handy work and noticed the gaps in it where hers had none.
Suddenly there was knocking on the door, it seemed to alarm Aria as much as it did Liam. He didn't bring anything with him while he took his short walk, so it was unlikely it was somebody wishing to return his lost possessions. Aria moved towards the door with lance in hand, Liam moved to be in the background while looking as imposing as he could in his human form.
As the door was opened the young girl was startled by Aria in her night clothes while wielding a lance. The girl's face turned red for a moment before she regained herself. "I'm sorry if I'm bothering the two of you. I over heard your conversation with my mother earlier, I'm sorry for eavesdropping, but I want my little brother to be happy. May I come in?"

Aria opened the door slightly and was taken aback just a bit. She was completely expecting some sort of thug to be behind the maiden. But, nope, there was nothing behind her except inky darkness and the faint flicker of a distant candle light. She closed the door again. She turned around to see Liam, trying his best to look the part of body guard.
"You can relax." Doubt anything in this village, can really hurt you physically anyway. She made a smooth swirly motion with her lance then went to undo the latch and open the door. She grabbed the maiden by the arm and pulled her into the room then swiftly closed the door. The latch was re-connected and Aria let out a little sigh.
"So, your the older sister?" Aria mentally kicked herself. Now was not the time to suddenly forget the name of the boy they trekked all the way out to see. Although now that she thought a bit about it she wasn't even sure they got the name out of his mother. Just the family name. Or perhaps she was remembering things wrong with all of the emotion and partial sleepy brain. But, if Aria was one thing she was a sucker for sisters helping out their brothers or brothers helping out their sisters. She knew of both these experiences and damn it did she know it was something that could be exploited. If you get caught in battle, we agree not to come save the other. No sense in both of us dying. She shook her head a bit to get the memory of her older brother out of her head.
"Right.. then. Well.. you've come all this way in the middle of the night. Make yourself comfortable with that chair in the corner and I'll get you some water. Then you can start talking." Aria pointed to the chair with her lance. She then set the wooden weapon down carefully. Aria threw on a cloak to cover herself a bit. She grabbed a wooden cup and poured the woman water from her canteen. She handed the cup to the woman, grabbed her lance again, then stood aside to give the girl some space.

The young woman looked scared as she was pulled into the room, hearing the lock latch caused her heart to race. She had came to aid the couple that had come to her home eariler, last thing she would have thought was to be greeted in this manor. She had taken to the seat quickly, upon taking the cup it was obvious she was scared at this point with her hands shaking.
A few days ago Liam thought he would have been on the sharp end of Aria's lance, but tonight she was using it to defend him. He knew the signs of scared human and this girl showed most of them. Liam placed a hand on Aria's shoulder, "It's fine." a message he was saying to both girls. He was unsure about revealing his true form to multiple humans in the same night, he was leaving that up to Aria's judgement. "You came to talk about your brother, Hal was it?"
The girl nodded before taking a sip of water without breaking eye contact with Liam. "Yes. since a young age Hal had taken upon himself to protect his siblings. Even though he was younger than me he would try to fight the boys teasing me, we had joked that he'd become some kind of hero one day. Then suddenly he got into a scuffle with a few boys in town and ran away. Years later he shown up during the war with Illia, defending the towns people." The girl looked towards Aria "I'm sure you two saw that wyvern? That's one of his best friends, he left him here to protect his loved ones while he went to play hero again."
Liam listened, taking in that story, judging Hal's character based on what his older sister had said. If personailty traits could be passed down, he would say Hal's sense of justice came from Julius.

Aria looked at the young girl, then back at Liam, then back at the young girl again. The new girl was clearly very frightened at her current predicament. Getting pulled into a room with two strangers and one stranger being armed, it just didn’t look good. Liam assured her that “it’s fine”. Aria didn’t quite buy that. Strangers were a tricky lot to deal with. Aria eyed the girl up and down in the chair. If push came to shove the sky haired rider could easily over power this girl. Aria rolled her eyes, then she sighed. She set her lance down and relaxed her shoulders so she didn’t look so menacing.
“Okay! Okay. Fine. I’ll relax.” Relax. She spoke in a slightly annoyed tone. She took another step back and leaned against the wall. Once things calmed down a little, the girl started speaking. Hal. Hal. Hal. Remember the name Aria.
“So your brother went off on an adventure without his wyvern pal?” What kind of wyvern rider does that?! Aria was mentally astonished and secretly very annoyed. A rider and their wyvern were a duo. Where one goes the other follows and vice versa. That was your partner for life! There were whole codes and classes dedicated to the care, maintenance, and building up of the wyvern and human dynamic. Wyverns and other mounts, weren’t things to be abandoned at a moment’s notice, especially when it’s to run off gallivanting to be a pretend hero!
“Noble intentions aside.. One does not just leave a wyvern behind.” She did her best to reply in a not pissed off tone. Relax. Aria. Remember.. Gentle.
“But, yes. We’ve met the wyvern. My wyvern has met the wyvern. And I.. think.. They got along.” For each time Aria said wyvern, she counted it on her fingers. Aria was very tempted to poke her head through a window to ask Chewy if she made a new friend.
“Haven’t exactly gotten a chance to ask her directly.” She perked up a little at her joke.
“Not after.. We kinda upset your mum. Uh.. sorry about that. It is.. A difficult story to take in all at once. Oh.. wait.. I should probably ask.. How much of it did you hear?”

“Noble intentions aside.. One does not just leave a wyvern behind.”
Those words remained in Liam's mind as Aria spoke, he knew she meant well in terms of humans and wyvern. "In the old days humans treated wyvern as equals, they protected each other like siblings. If you harmed one then you should have attacked their partner. Liam was well aware of Aria and Chewie's relationship "I already know you'd be ready to rip somebody's throat out if they insulted Chewie like that. It's a relationship between the races that very few actually remembers. The young woman's brother isn't just friends with the wyvern we met, but they're siblings." Wiping a rogue tear from his eye "I understand the sentiment."
The young woman sat in complete confusion. The man came to her home claiming to know the origin of their family name, the conversation between him and his female companion seemed to prove that further. "I... I..." the girl mumbled. Swallowing what felt like a lump her throat she kept going "I heard enough to know my family name isn't human, but we're related to a dragon. That explains why my brother took to a wyvern more than his own family."
Liam took a deep breath. "He didn't take to a wyvern more than his own family. He protected a loved one who treated him in the same manner. Aria can confirm such relationship with dragonkin, such love doesn't know bounds like race."
The young woman kept looking between Liam and Aria in confusion, she understood normal love but what they spoke of was beyond her. She eventually spoke up. "I heard like half of it I think, kinda hard to believe some dude claiming to be a dragon though. I almost believe that story with what the two of you have said and acted towards each other though." The young woman looked at the pair a couple of times before speaking again. "If you're lying to trick Hal back, him and Sol won't think twice before stringing your guts across town though".
"Julius would look down upon him." Liam looked at Aria for a moment, "My son, not the wyvern pup.." Liam let out a sigh, naming the wyvern pup after his son would become confusing for those who didn't know his true history. Without breaking his gaze with Aria, Liam kept talking. "Julius was raised thinking he was a dragon, that he was a late bloomer. My wife and myself eventually had to break the news to him, he denied it claiming he would grow into his dragon powers. He came to terms of the truth when our home was attacked, he felt powerless when I lost my eye trying to protect his mother. I had failed the both of them, that was the start of my downward spiral..."
