Aaron looked around at the rough grass growing on the small hills dotting the area. A sparse forest was nearby, to the north.
"This looks fine to me. We might as well stop here." Aaron walked over to Bridget, and handed the map back to her. "Always good to have a well drawn map. I'm afraid I never packed a map big enough to have Ostia on it. I guess that's what I get for not expecting a long trip."

Lilith stopped with the rest of the group and laid her bag down on a soft patch of grass. She unclasped her cloak and said to Aaron, "You don't have to be sorry for something you didn't expect? I mean, none of us really knew we would end up traveling around with one another when we set out that first day. We just wanted to help people, and we met other who had the same idea. That is how all good things start!"
She then set her tome on her bag and, after spotting a cluster of flowers, ran over to pick some. She did this often, even back during her schooling. It annoyed many of the other students, who were as forlorn and dark as the magic they strove to master. They thought that because of her lightheartedness she would not be a good shaman. However, she proved them wrong whenever it came time to spar. Yes, Lilith was quite the moldbreaker.

Bridget smirked at Wein and began to run a brush through her hair. "Suit yourself." she said sing-songily. She turned and accepted her map back when Aaron gave it to her and smiled when he complimented it. "Thank you." she said as she tucked it back into her bag. Bridget was too relieved at having a campsite, so she immediately set her stuff down and continued to brush her hair. Soot and ash came out, and Bridget felt somewhat annoyed that nobody had told her that she was dirty; then again, everyone was.
Bridget watched everyone else go about their business. Well, isn't this a pleasant scene, she thought to herself. All happy and hardworking. Bridget began to hum to herself as she removed the tangles and ash from her hair. "So, what exactly brings all of you to Ostia? I feel like I hardly know any of you." she said.

Placing the cavalier down on a clear, grassy spot, Wein sighed and sat down on a nearby rock, stretching out his legs. With a yawn, he turned to Bridget as she addressed the group.
"We were out on a scouting mission for Laus," he said to Bridget. After that fire, their mission was in shambles. He didn't see the harm in informing their new comrade what she may or may not be getting into. "Our job was to go scout out the for Etrurian troops. The reports were that they were seen at the Ostia and Laus borders," said Wein, dismally. "That fire, however, kind of botched the mission." He held his arms out toward the prairie around them. "And now, there are no soldiers to be seen. I was bringing everyone to Ostia to rest and recuperate, perhaps continuing our reconnaissance in a day or two." The archer put an elbow on his knee, leaning forward. "I want to know what brings a nice looking girl like you into the forests of Ostia. Can't imagine you expected them to burst into flames."

Aaron saw some smaller branches near the woods and started picking them up. Once he got enough to start a small fire, he returned and dropped it in a pile. Wein had just finished explaining what they'd been doing when Aaron came up. He kept half an ear to that discussion, thoughts wandering some, as he started collecting smaller stones to make a fire ring.
His gaze glanced over to Lillith, picking flowers. She certainly didn't fit the mold when it came to dark mages. As bright and cheery as an... an Anima mage. His parents had always kept a garden of these flowers, or a variation of them, in the backyard. His Grandfather Barek had, as well.
He looked over at Lillith, smiling at the recalled memory of family. "Brilliants. Thats what my parents and Grandparents called those flowers. At least five variations of them. My grandfather said that if he could ever achieve something as beautiful as that flower he would consider himself a talented mage." It hadn't been the flowers coloring that Barek had been talking about. It was the flowers ability to grow and adapt; brighten the lives of those who could appreciate it.

Yet again Selk was content with being the quiet one. He watched with a smile as Lilith, in her happy-go-lucky ways, gathered and picked flowers. Aaron had apparently went for tinder for their fire, and the others were chatting with Wein bringing the newest members of the group up to speed on what was going on.
Bridget's question as to what brought them to Ostia made Selk think back to when their group had just got together at the inn. Then there came the bandit encounters, Yaen joining the group after the first and Aaron and Sir Malachi joining during the second. Then this mission....Sir Malachi, Yaen, and Wyatt were all missing in action, lost in the chaos of the fires that forced them all to flee. He hoped they were okay, but he did not know either way. It was then that his thoughts were interrupted by Kishou's words. Selk turned to face him and replied, "One of 'em tried really hard, but it never broke the skin," Selk pointed down to his boot as he said this. The boot had a thick leather sole with metal plating on the top and sides, but teeth marks could still be seen as scratches on the metal and chewed places on the boot. "Mostly I just got hurt from falling, burning branches and the fatigue of breathing so much smoke while trying to escape."
For now he would rest a bit. He walked over to a moss covered log and made sure it wasn't going to crumble into splinters if he sat on it. Then he did just that, resting his elbows on his knees as he sat there.

Kishou watched on as everyone seemed to make themselves comfortable and rest from the travel they made. He was glad that at least Selk Mar was alright; the beast didn't make contact to his foot, so he can assume he wouldn't turn into that beast they saw. Of course, there was still the injured cavalier who hadn't woken up yet.
It was an odd warning the little girl gave. To be frank, she seemed as much of out of place as himself or Bridget, yet the three of them were taken in well by Aaron and the others. Still, it wasn't the same in their case; Kishou was a monk on a pilgrimege, and Bridget was trying to find a noble who had been her birth father. This girl, Lilith... shouldn't have any reason to be traveling alone.
She was a mystery to him. He could tell at first glance that she practiced magic, but not anything that a monk or cleric would be. She could be an Anima mage, but he actually doubted that. But, if that were the case, she would be a Shaman-in-training... but she was too happy. Last he recalled, most Shaman were devoid of any emotion, much less happiness, or just really reserved and kept to themselves.
He shook his head and decided to forget about it. His range of magic knowledge came from Light and Healing, and was too vague to understand how Darkness or Anima worked. He would ask her about it, perhaps, but not now. She looked happy picking flowers and Aaron was already talking with her.
With that in mind, he followed Selk's example and sat by himself. Instead of resting, however, he flipped through his lightning tome and rehearsed chants, thinking of more practical ways to use light magic, like finger-lit torches.

Lilith smiled at Aaron. She now had a good handful of flowers or varying colors. "Aaron, that's a wonderful name for such wonderful flowers. Here, I picked them for you!" she said, handing the mage the bundle of flowers. "I thought you would like them. The way you talked, you seem to have grown up around a nice field of flowers. She smiled again, then went over to her things and picked up her tome. Her hands still smelled like the Brilliants, and made the pages of the old book smell nice.
She glanced over to one of the new people in their group. He was a fairly large man, dressed in a red cloak. He was reading what looked like a light magic tome, and chanting from it. She skipped over to him and sat down right in front of him. "Hi! I don't think i formally introduced myself. I'm Lilith. You're a light mage, right? I tired light magic. I wasn't very good at it. I think elder magic is my strong point. It's hard, but rewarding. See?"
Lilith held out her hand and released a bit of her own energy to the air around it. The air shimmered, and a black shadow enveloped her hand. It's black depths churned with tendrils of dark purples, blues, and black. "It's like looking at a painting, like it's very own kind of art." she smiled at the monk.

"Darkest creature of sin, surrender yourself to the light as your source of SALVA-!"
During his reading through chants, Kishou found himself practicing speeches of retribution that he would use when facing bandits and possessed wolves. During said speech he found himself extending his hand and getting himself a bit too into it. He only realized after Lilith walked up and noted what he was doing, but didn't seem to take notice of his rather embarassing actions.
He was surprised by her entrance, but was later speechless when she claimed to use 'Elder Magic' and proved it by animating a simple Flux over her hand. Stereotypically, Monks and Shamen do not get along well because of their values and teachings. What's more, most common Shaman tend to be devoid of emotion, or at the very least reserved of what's left. And that's before they become a Druid.
So, to say that a happy and energetic girl practices Dark, or rather 'Elder Magic', with a sunny personality, was uncalled for and uncomfortable. Well, at least that answers the question of what magic she used. Now all they needed as a Priest or Cleric and they would have a full magi team.
"Uh..." he started, realizing he needed to say something, and hoped he didn't sound too disturbed. "Very... interesting. I doubt most Shamen can do that."

Bridget smiled at Wein's question, and set down her brush to answer. How honest should I be? she asked herself. He was straightfoward enough. She cleared her throat. "I am on a quest. A very noble one, of course!" she said. Bridget once again removed the precious necklace from around her neck and stood up. She walked over to Wein and carefully set it down in his hand. "Normally I wouldn't just give it to a stranger, but since you saved me from the forest that, as you so astutely put it, burst into flames." Bridget waited for Wein to examine the heirloom a bit before continuing. "I am searching for my father. And since you and your friends are clearly experienced and out of a job, well, perhaps it would be in everyone's best interests to stick together. As you can tell from that piece of jewelry, my father is not without wealth. If you help me find him, I can assure you, it would be worth your time."

Aaron took the flowers from Lillith, a little surprised at her enthusiasm. He was mildly embarrassed at her gesture, whether it had any deeper meaning behind it or not. Was it okay for a man to be given flowers? Then he laughed at himself. Look at me, all worried about appearances. I've got better things to be worried about. He tucked the flowers down into a pocket in his supply bag. There actually was a practical use for them other than brightening a room in a vase: they smelled much better than the smoke and grit that clung to them. Aaron saw that She had gone over to visit Kishou. Aaron smiled at the man's shocked expression as Lillith happily showed him a ball of darkness. May his Lord have mercy on his soul. Ah, but it's refreshing to know that dark mages can be cheerful too.
Aaron heard Bridget begin telling what she was doing out and about. Ah, looking for her father. Just like some of those stories I used to read. Aaron remembered reading a few stories growing up with this type of theme in it. Doubts began to formulate in his mind, but he banished them quickly enough. Yes, she might be making up what she said, even trying to con them into a trap or something but that was typically the kind of thing that happened in stories. He wasn't going to let his overly creative mind runaway with itself just now.
He berated himself for expecting to find enough rocks for a large fire ring in the middle of a field. As he continued his own quest, he picked up another rock and stepped over to take a closer look at the necklace. It shone a lusterous, brilliant gold, even in the limited lighting of the oncoming cloudy evening. "That is a pretty bit of work there." He crouched down and began spacing the modest number of rocks he'd collected in the best location he could find nearby. He wasn't really sure they were out of the job, as she'd put it. They really still needed to report back their findings to Laus. He imagined that the Marquess there would be interested to hear of the monsters which were now apparently plaguing the countryside. Either way, Wein was on the right track. They did need to recover, and Ostia was the best place for that.

Wein handled the necklace with care, admiring the precious stones inset into the metal. For one who seemed to have so little, this necklace was quite valuable on top of it's obvious sentimental value. She was either very trusting or very foolish to have handed this over to Wein so easily. Considering, however, that she had the faith to give him the precious object in the first place, Wein tried to think the best of her. She was trusting.
"Well, I can't say for sure that our job is over until we reach Ostia," replied the blue-jacketed archer, fingering the necklace one last time before handing it back to Bridget, "but you're welcome to accompany us until we get there. We can reassess our goals there." He looked over his shoulder to the men and women behind him. They were tired, injured, and had been through a lot. They all needed a good rest before any absolute decisions were made.
"I'm not even in charge of this little operation. I'm just taking over until our fearless leader recovers," said Wein, nodded to the sleeping Denzel.

Bridget put her necklace back on and smiled. "Very well then. I'll stay with y'all until we reach Ostia. And then we'll see how it goes from there." she agreed. Her eyes wandered to the boy that Wein had indicated as the leader of the group, and she stifled a giggle. "I'm quite handy to have around. I can lift any heavy objects you need, and I'm quite good with children." Bridget stood up with a yawn and a stretch. "Well, I'm going to lay down for a moment. Try not to steal all of my worldly possessions and leave me for dead. I sleep with my eyes open." she said nonchalantly. Bridget took her sleeping bag and rolled it out under a tree. With another yawn, she laid down. Her eyes wide open and her hand placed noticeably on her sword, she began to snore lightly.

Aaron fiddled with the stones he was trying to make into a fire ring. There weren't really enough for one thing, for another, they kept shifting around. It seemed as if they had a will of their own. Like they were trying to keep from settling securely. He finally did manage to secure them though. Does anyone else even want a fire? Well, I do. That's enough reason for me. Dropping a portion of the admittedly small amount of wood he'd gathered, he reached down and used his tome to set it aflame. "Ah, I'll be back later. I'd like to take a quick stroll." Aaron wanted a few things really. Just some time to reflect in solitude, and also... I've never been to Ostia. What does the land look and feel like here?... Not to far though.-Timeskipping- Eventually, he made it back to the camp. That night, he slept fairly soundly, though he awoke with a painful crick in his back. He also could almost remember a dream he'd had of a giant face in the stars. A man with a pointy beard who seemed able to do anything. Ugh, now dreams of The Magnificent are invading my sleep. Why, oh why didn't I read something more profitable than novels. In reality, the dreams that included heroes from the books he read were his favorite kind. He looked over and saw the fire ring smoldering. It had been out for some time, apparently. He smoothed back his green hair, dirty from the road and it's difficulties, as he spoke out. "If we get moving soon, we should be able to see Ostia by noon later today." He gathered his stuff up, eager to get to the city. He looked off towards the city. The clouds were particularly heavy there. He looked at it closer. His brain was trying to realize something, but it wasn't quite clicking. "Can we be off?" He pulled out the the one of the last of his travel rolls and started chewing. It was getting a bit stale now, but still his favorite snack available at the moment. OoC: ...I'm fine with time-skipping directly to near Ostia. If someone asks me to, I'll do it, but I felt like I was making too many decisions. Or someone else can timeskip. Or we can just go from here.

"Movi ... now .... Ostia ... ate..."
Scraps from Aaron's wake up call came through to Denzel as he regained conciousness. He slowly rose up and dragged his fiongers through his hair. It felt like he'd been asleep for a month. He looked around as everyone else got to their feet as well. Their carriage was gone, as were their horses. And Wyatt, Yaen and Malachi were nowhere in view.
As he watched Aaron trying to get the group moving as quick as possible he realised that the others had already steeled their heards towards these things. He resolved to do the same. "Let's go, we're late as it is after all."
