Dee calmed down a bit as she saw the pirates slowly being beaten back to their own ship thanks to the strength and cunning of the travelers. She couldn't just sit here continuously screaming, could she? Was there anything that she could do?
She surveyed the ship, looking for someway that she could be helpful. Mel was already on the enemy ship, but Dee couldn't do anything particularly dexterous to help her out. Vashnar was too busy protecting Dee from the pirates. The savage... he was in combat with a pirate. He didn't seem to be so quick at taking down his opponent as the others were, but was there anything she could do to help?
Suddenly, she remembered the words of that Roland guy from earlier: [red]"...one of my partners was a mildly insane zealot who liked using light magic to blind people..."[/red]
Dee discarded the 'insane' part of that particular memory, noting that most of the books she read were written by insane people. Her mother's spellbook, hanging by Dee's waist... It was a book on the creation of light, wasn't it? Much of it was too advanced for Dee to understand what it meant, but there were some parts that she could read...
[white]"Blueberry!"[/white] she yelled to the Sacean, [white]"Cover your eyes for a sec!"[/white]
She quickly recalled all that her uncle had taught her about casting magic. You needed a tome of the spell to run energy off of, envision aim in your mind. Her cloak flapped a bit in a short sea breeze. [white]"Light!"[/white] Dee called out, her arms outstretched. She didn't expect such force to come out of using magic though, and she ended up falling over backwards. A small orb of light flashed briefly between Zero and his opponent, attempting to blind the pirate. Hopefully the Blueberry Sacean took her advice and didn't get blinded himself.

Joel watched as his companions and... Whatever you would call people you had come to know on a ship... Well, whatever that word was, Joel watched with a faint smile as they got to work fending off these unfortunately stereotypical pirates. He unstrapped his axe, spinning it ever so slowly before he started moving. It seemed that Sabin had already made it over to the pirate's deck; Joel was running a little bit slow today. The big Nabataean growled at a pirate who was blocking his path who quickly scurried off to harass someone else, and then he began making his way towards the other ship. Pacifism is a challenge, sure, but it is more than worth it when you don't have to harm other human beings, even if a pile of cinder blocks can muster up more intelligence then the human in question. Walking across the wooden boards connecting the two ships calmly but quickly, Joel soon found himself on the pirate ship's deck.
Sabin was busy with pirates, keeping them busy and away from him. Good, good. Joel didn't really want to be bleeding when he got back. Swinging his axe absentmindedly again, the Nabataean looked around, quickly locating his own opponent: the mast. He grinned, but then stopped as the captain, Jay, showed up. "Well well well, ain't you a big man, eh?" the pirate rumbled in a voice deep enough to match Joel's. "Well, come on then. I haven't had me a good fight in ages." The pirate held his own axe, a much nicer weapon than the one Joel was holding, loosely, and grinned.
Joel shook his head. "Sorry; if you want a fight, talk to my friend. I'm a pacifist." This seemed to confuse Jay for a moment, and in this moment Joel just plowed right through him, sending the slightly-shorter pirate onto his hands and knees. The pirate swore, and got up only to see Joel doing what he did best: hacking away at wood.
And it feels good to be back in business, the Nabataean thought as his axe thudded into the wood with practiced speed. "Sabin, I seem to have attracted a rather fearsome enemy. Would you mind taking care of him for me?"

Sabin gritted his teeth in annoyance. Was this guy for real? How could such an intimidating looking man be such a pacifist in combat? Obviously he didnt se Sabin's position: He was hanging on the edge of a plank. Thank god he was hanging on quite the strong plank, otherwise he'd be stuck in sea by now.
Sabin mustered all his strength in getting back on to the plank. He was at the other end, steeping on portion of the other ship to get on to the plank. He had to literally stretch on to the plank to get back on it. He looked up, exhausted. The bandit he had tripped earlier was on his feet, and he looked quite angry. Sabin qas stil trying to catch his breathe. He turned to see another couple of pirates running after him. Sabin gritted his teeth in determination- he had to run, now.
Taking up his axe, he got up so suddenly and swiftly dealth a blow to the pirate in front of him, on the chin. He then kicked the man in the crotch and punched him, sending him into the deep blue sea.
Sabin then turned back to see the pirates running closing in on him. "crap! I need to think something, fast!" he cursed, panicking as they were running closer. Then he got an idea. He put back his iron axe on his waist and took out his large, beautiful silver axe. It looked so magnificent, he really didn't want to use it. But weapons were there to use in fights, not for admiring them. It was time to use this thing... not for fighting, but for escaping. Sabin grined.
He walked back a few steps and then raised his silver axe as high as he could. Why do you need to fight people, when they can't... reach you? He hacked into the wooden plank, making a huge mark on the plank. He cursed himself. He'd need more time to cut this thing off.
He needed to strain his muscles a bit, but he yanked it out of the wooden plank. He looked up to see the pirates a few feet away. He'd need to fight them after all. He shook that pessimism out of his mind. He still had his lovely silver axe to kick their ass.
He stood near the broken plank, trying to face them head on. The two pirates swung their axes vertically, trying to hit Sabin in the chest, but he stepped backwards, accidentally allowing them to hack into the crack present in the plannk. This made the crack go deeper, and Sabin smiled. He needed to cut that plank once and for all.
He first horizontally slashed at the two pirates to hit both and once. Gripping their wounds in pain, they left their axes stuck in the wooden plank. He then hacked into the crack once again. He cursed himself- the plank was not going to break any time soon. He might as well retreat- even he couldn't take on so many.
He quickly took out his iron axe to swiftly hit the two pirates on their heads. They were disarmed anyway, so he needed to take them out before they could throw him off the ship. He then proceeded to yank his Silver axe out, almost falling off in the process. "Damn!" Sabin cursed, as he regained balance and saw many more pirates ready to get to their(the passenger) ship. He retreated as quickly as possible, only to see that the captain himself was about to quickly deal with Joel.
"Curse you and you combat incapabilities, Joel!" Sabin muttered to himself as he ran to face his new opponent.

Mel hooked her legs over the opening and leaned back her head turning either way to make sure no one was around. It would be horrible if she was chased. As thrilling as it may be she was not feeling up to sprinting away from a crown of dimwitted pirates their mighty axes brandished and glinting menacingly in the flickering torchlight. With the gash in her side it did not seem like she should be doing anything too strenuous, though with her horrible track record of missteps and bad karma she she doubted that she would not.
It was all because of that child. That stupid stupid child that screamed out, why couldn't she just shut it. Or...be tossed overboard, tempting....tempting. The little mousy haired runt would soon learn what pain was. Well...after she got past Joel's iron defense of body mass, and the little ring of pirates that surrounded her as she was lost in thought.
Stupid stupid little squeally dolt.
She swung down landing in a crouch the axe of one of her attackers missing her and embedding it into the wood. The large oaf grunted and started to attempt to pull it free whilst Mel not wishing to stick around rolled between his legs and sprinted off down the hallway clutching her side tightly. It was still bleeding steadily but she needed to be careful about leaving a blood trail. Still ahead of the pirates she spied a few crates and pulled open open scrambling inside among the straw and pulling the top down. Biting her lip Mel stared out through a knot hole watching the pirates lumber past her hiding spot.
Making sure they were gone she rifled through the crate finding some apples and bit into one with a sigh, it would be best to wait.

As blood flowed from his wounds and his eyes were blurred, Vashnar fought on as more and more Pirates attacked him, trying to take him down and get to the girl behind him. As he took down another Pirate with a thrust through the heart, 3 more charged: two Pirates and an archer. As the archer sent a arrow at him, Vashnar doudged it and thrust at a pirate at the same time. Crouching down, the priate dodged the spear only to receive a kick to the jaw while his pal got a gloved punch to the gut. And both the pirates stepped back, Vashnar took the time to pull a arrow out of his shoulder; lucky shot. Roaring in anger, Vashnar charged the men and killed the archer with a thrust in the gut, knocked another one off the boat over the side, and grabbed the arm holding a axe swinging down at his head. Twisting the hand, the pirate yelled as Vashnar then ran his spear though the pirate.
Looking around with blood covering him from multiple wounds, Vashnar saw bodies of dead pirates and his charge Dee. Walking back to her, Vashnar turned around and formed a defensive stance yet again.

Dee turned and gasped when she saw Vashnar covered in blood. Even with all of that armor, the strength of the pirates was getting to him. [white]"Vashnar, are you okay?"[/white] She grabbed hold of his armor, but shot her hand back when she felt the warm life that came from his wounds.
She reached into her bag with her other hand, and pulled out a Vulnerary. [white]"Here, Vashnar..."[/white]
It wasn't right, people getting injured for her sake. This whole trip was for her sake, as Joel had made clear. She was just using them to get to the libraries of Etruria, but they were practically giving their lives to get her there.
But this was important, right? To find the secret of life, some sacrifices were needed. It just didn't sit right with Dee, that they had only just started their journey and already were injured on her behalf.

"Psst, hey." He whispered quietly into the ear of a rightfully surprised pirate, the cold steel pressed hard against his throat, the sharp of the blade cutting the flesh light from simply being pressed there. "Watch your back next time." With a flick of the wrist, they were one archer down. The blood oozed from the wound as his body slumped forward, he had been so occupied trying to take down the others, that he completely missed the mercenary sneaking up on him. Fight smart, that was his motto, in a straight out battle he was at a disadvantage, that's why you needed to do whatever you can to get the advantage. Be it trickery, stealth, or anything else it may take. He looked over to where the others had been when he slunk away, they were still there and the kid in armor seemed to be in a most miserable state.
He let out a slight groan, he hated pirates. There were a few left, lumbering about it a most pirate like fashion, but none blocking his path from point A to point B, so he took the opportunity to scurry closer. It seemed the pirates in this immediate area of the ship were just manhandled, from the corpses on the deck. The armored kid, Vashnar, was bleeding and looked in pain. It looked like it hurt. He stood there though, all tough and stuff, he took his job seriously at the least.
"We'll have to disinfect and treat those wounds properly later." He muttered aloud as he walked closer, his blade still bloodied from the pirate he killed. He forgot to clean it off, but maybe it was better this way. At least he killed him from behind and avoided the blood splatter on his clothing. They didn't really have time to treat them right, what with his armored turtle shell he wore all over his body. It'd take a good while just to get that crap off, plate mail was just way too much work. "You two alright? Where's Zero?" He noticed the blue haired boy fighting earlier, but lost sight when he started to stalk that archer. Where was Gwen for that matter? He didn't worry too much about her though, she was tough.

As Vashnar was slipping from consciousness, he saw a figure moving towards him. He thought it was another pirate, and Vashnar took a step forward to thrust but as he did he slipped in a pool of blood that was around him. Falling down onto his back, Vashnar saw Dee as his eyes started to close. Sorry I couldn't protect you until the battle was over he muttered before he passed out.

" I knew I thought I saw him before! That's!-" Sabin muttered as he raced towards the big pirate going after Joel.
"I see you're alive, Ol' Cap'n! I thought my boys had dealt with you six years ago. I guess you're just too strong, aren't yeh, Jay?" Sabin called out to the enemy captain.
"Barnacles! Well, well, if it ain't Captain Sabin of the S.S Figaro! What might you been doin' here, on this lumpy old pile of wood?" Jay asked.
"Haven't ye heard, Jay? I'm a traveller now! A wandering mercenary! I quit the darn pirate life because it was risky... and I've had a change of heart I'd say." Sabin retaliated.
" Hehehe! 'Change of heart', Sabin? You're a weakling. Ye never did match up to my power then, and you never will. If ye have the strength, why not use it to get yerself some mooney? The violent way. Its simple and straight." Jay retorted, trying to provoke Sabin.
"He means straightforward, hehe. Too bad his life taught him such bad language and principles." Sabin contemplated. "You see, Jay, I was pretty young in the business. Not enough muscle. However," Sabin then proceeded to take his iron axe in his left hand. He could feel it- the silver axe's weight was not gonna help him. He'd have to risk spraining his wrist or something, two axes were better than one. " I've changed, Jay. I'm much more experienced than before, and trust me, you cannot best me in combat. Even if you look intimidating, I must admit, you cannot match my great battle prowess." Sabin smirked confidently.
"Hah! Sabin, ye know what, yer immature, like all of 'em. Ye'll pay, swine!" Jay roared, running towards Sabin with his axe held high.
"Grr... I can't dual wield these axes like this! My arms will take a serious blow... especially if our axes connect. Maybe I should put it back... oh no! Its too late! Well, here goes nothing!" Sabin muttered as Jay was no right in front of him, axe held high, about to hack downwards.
Sabin blocked Jay's attack with an upward swing of his silver axe, which made a very loud and clear clanking sound. Sabin could feel the pressure on his right arm, as his knees started bending. Jay was overpowering him! He had to do something fast... that's right! He had his iron axe in his left hand.
"Oh yeah Jay? Think yer real smart, huh? Eat this!" Sabin said, retaliating with his iron axe, hitting Jay on his left thigh. Jay stumbled backwards, and Sabin did the same, trying the catch his breath. After a few seconds of contemplation, Sabin hung his Iron axe back on his back. No use running around with two axes if you risked a serious sprain.

[white]"What the..."[/white] Dee watched Vashnar slowly slip away and fall to the deck with a loud thud. [white]"Vashnar, get up! I'm not calling you 'Shiny' anymore, Vashnar, so get up!"[/white] Her tiny fists banged on his armor, achieving nothing other than making her hands hurt as tears started to well in her eyes.
No, I can't let anyone else die. She told herself with her mother's grave in mind.
The first thing she had to do was get all of that heavy armor off of him, there was no way she'd be able to apply a vulnerary without even knowing where his wounds were. Unfortunately, she didn't exactly know how armor worked. She looked up at the swordsman who had boarded along with them, [white]"Can't you help me..?"[/white] she sniffled out on the verge of bawling.

"Alright, but we can't do it here." He thought for a moment, and then looked around for something to help him, or rather someone. He couldn't very well ask the little girl for help. "We need to get him inside." He added, musing quietly, thoughtfully holding his chin and letting out a small humming of thought. "You! Come over here and help me." He'd ask Joel or Sabin but WHOOPS OFF BEING DUMB. Instead he caught the attention of a somewhat burly looking sailor.
He stumbled over, looking scared and a bit out of it. He wasn't even holding a weapon, it seems not all dockhands are pirates after all, shattering the well researched belief. "W-what is it?" He somewhat stuttered, but it was fine, Roland just needed his body not his valiant courage. If he needed that, they'd all have died as soon as a stiff breeze rolled in.
"Come on, you get his right shoulder and I'll get his left." He crouched down and brought the man's arm around his neck, his heavy heavy arm, but they'd make it. Roland was much more physically able then his sinewy frame would suggest. "There's some rooms to the left after we get downstairs, we'll take him there, treat his wounds, and set up some traps." He smiled at the young girl. "Don't worry, he'll be fine, Doctor Hawkthorne is on the case." He knew first aid, any mercenary worth their salt knew, don't wanna be losing arms in the line of battle now.
With a heave of great effort, the two men bring the armored man to his feet, struggling slightly under the weight of his armor. The other man seemed to be a good choice, he seemed to be managing well enough. "You good over there?" Roland said under a somewhat strained voice, focusing on the carrying of the man.
"This is nothin' you should see summa the crates I have ta' load." He grinned back.
"Alright Dee, we're safe for now, but someone might come. If they do, tell me, I won't be able to turn holding Vash. If you can, attack from afar with your magic, but don't try to take anyone alone. I'll deal with it, I just need to know alright?" He looked at the young girl, putting a small amount of responsibility on her shoulders, and began to take the first few steps into the ship. They needed to be careful, steps were tricky and he doesn't think Vash would appreciate a tumble.

Jay, after blocking Sabin's attack, pushed his axe forward, trying to hit Sabin in the chest. Sabin turned left as he back-stepped, but he was too slow. Jay's axe hit him on his shoulder girdle, albeit not with full force. Sabin winced as he felt excruciating pain. No! He could not collapse now! Shifting his silver axe to his left hand, Sabin took advantage of the opening and swiftly struck Jay squarely in the chest. Sabin ducked towards the left as Jay stumbled back, as Jay's axe was almost going to hit him. It just missed his head by a few inches.
Sabin walked a few steps backwards, holding the axe in his right arm while clutchinghis right shoulder with his left arm. He felt blood oozing out of it. He looked at and saw- it wasn't anything major, but certainly not the kind of wound you'd like to get. It was bruised, with a major part of the skin peeled of. Damn! Why did fights always have to be this tough? He noticed his opponent- He was not in the best of conditions. He looked dazed, like he was about to fall over with the next strike. That was good, and Sabin appreciated the fact thst he bought the silver axe a few days back. This was turning about to be such a boon in battle, a sharp and heavy axe such as this.
Sabin knew that he had to strike Jay before he could get back to his senses, and fast. He hoped luck would be on his side as charged at Jay once again. However he started slowing down as he noticed Jay's hands trembling. Perhaps he was about to strike, he had sensed Jay's body language well. As Sabin came closer Jay suddenly swung his axe upward, but Sabin had quickly ducked down, kicking Jay in the thigh he had hit earlier. He noticed that Jay's axe had cut a part of his hair. Oh, wonderful. At least he escaped death's embrace.
Jay cried in pain and Sabin looked up- an arrow had hit Jay in his good arm! Sabin turned to see an archer not far away from where they were. " Must be unexperienced, that archer." Sabin muttered to himself.
Then he looked back at Jay once again and saw that he was unable to lift his axe with his good arm. He had dropped his axe just behind Sabin. Now was his chance! As Jay bent to get his axe, Sabin sprung up and punched the man in the face, the with one swift motion, sunk his silver axe into the brute's skull. Sabin winced and snarled in pain. He had forgotten about the bruise in his shoulder. Dammit, he needed to move to a safer place. Hopefully the pirates would retreat seeing their leader dead.
Sabin turned back to see the archer retreating. He smiled. Now he had to cut his way through the mess and back to his room. He had his vulneraries over there.

Dee carried Vashnar's spear into the ship when he was brought in. It was much heavier than she expected, she struggled even to carry it with both arms. There weren't any healers on board, so they could only patch him up while waiting to get to the Western Isles.
[white]"I... I think the fighting is over."[/white] Dee noted. The sounds of weapons clashing from above deck had faded.
She peered out over the deck of the ship. It was covered in blood, but there was no more fighting. People already tending their wounds. The pirates were all tied up, their ship still connected to the Mist Drifter. There were a few sailors standing guard over them to make sure they didn't try anything else.
Dee breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe now there would be no more troubles before their destination.
It didn't help her calm down that Western Isles was known for its pirate problems.
(OoC: Thanks, Sabin. It's probably for the best to end this now so that we can leave behind characters that aren't posting.)

Mel had long since crawled out of her hiding spot a strip of a dead bandit's shirt tied about her wound for now. The lass had walked about the ship finding quite a few trinkets here and there which she immediately snatched up. There was not too much of value on the ship so taking another apple and biting into it she climbed up onto the deck and headed back to the other ship carrying a few apples in the crook of her arm as well. If she didn't take them they would most probably just be wasted anyways without her help.
A soft frown on her lips formed as she watched Vashnar be carried inside and she walked up to see the extent of the damage not that she could actually tell with her lack of medical experience. Instead she walked over to Dee and rudely dropped an apple onto her head "next time you want to start wailing put a cork in it" the lass hissed crudely before walking off into the belly of the ship to store her new found shines

Surprisingly, the short trip inside was one with little difficulty. It was almost relaxing, if not completely unexpected. He had expected atleast a million or two pirates to burst in and start to have a rape and pillaging party, complete with awkward dances and someone spilling something all over themselves like any proper ball. However it was instead like all the pirates just seemed to disappear for no discernible reason, and while he wasn't going to complain, he was totally complaining.
Anyways, he wasn't really in a position to be commenting on the battle tactics of sea brigands, seeing as he was currently hovering over a half-naked man. Not that had to do with anything, but that's usually a position in which you're not allowed to comment on anything. He removed the heavy plates that Vashnar wore, thinking at how ridiculous it is to wear such armor when you get this injured anyway, and removed the bloodied shirt so he could get a better view of the injuries. They were mostly on the top of the body, since pirates prefer to use gravity to aid in their attacks and attack from above, but there was a few arrow wounds as well. He'd think the armor was absolutely garbage personally, since it seemed to do little to protect him. He was probably just surrounded, in which case he was fortunate and very determined to have fought them off. Kudos.
Dee had given him a vulnerary, which Roland took no time in taking to use to treat him. Using some cloth from the bedspread, seeing as how he was missing bandages, he used the salve to disinfect and treat the wounds. Spreading it out all over his body, about using a third of the entire bottle. He could of used more, but since the fighting seemed to be over, he didn't need to. He'd let time help heal the rest, Vash was going to make it, it was mostly blood loss as most of the wound missed vital areas, he was lucky in that way. After bandaging up everything, he looked around, it wasn't even that loud anymore. Looks like they retreated, or everyone on the ship died. In which case he'd have to surrender his supple sack of gold for real.
Roland was one of the few completely uninjured by the attack, but that was good for him. It was his MO for most situations, don't get killed. That and try to turn a profit whenever possible. Of course he doubt he'd get any loot from these ruffians, pirates were notorious cheapskates. Their weapons were crap, they never carried around any gold, and any personal affects were junky junk that weren't even worth a single gold. Why it was almost enough to bring a tear to his eye.
Just as he finished up with Vash, he looked around for the sailor that helped him. He had set up a few traps as he instructed when they entered, but they weren't needed anymore it seems. He was currently in the process of disarming them. Nothing potent, mostly just things rigged up with rope, wood and random room items. Roland is nothing if not clever. Well he was also handsome, intelligent, and incredibly humble as well, but those need not be said. Now was the time to rifle around as see if there was ANYTHING worth taking from these dead men,
"Roland!" Someone shouted his name. He just knew that somehow he was going to end up doing some favors.
"Hrm? What is it Anthony?" It was one of the sailors, arm was bleeding as he dragged his self to the infirmary. "Your arm's bleeding by the way."
"I-I know! I heard you were in here helping the injured an-"
"Oh woah, where did you hear that?" Oh god/goddess/religious iconic woman who started cults/dragon emperor, he KNEW how this was going to end up. It was best not to fight it. "Ugh, doesn't matter, come over here and I'll see what I can do." He was going to spend the rest of this trip playing doctor, he knew it. He looked at his 'assistant' with a glare of 'you're helping me' and he nodded silently. "Viktor, go down into the storage room and look for some medical supplies. Bedsheets aren't really ideal for splints and bandages." The man hurried away, almost happy. Maybe he felt good that he was actually helping after he was such a load during the battle, didn't matter, Doctor Hawthorne was on board.
After setting the arm and adding a tourniquet he nodded at the man who began to breath easy. "Thanks."
"It's alright, if you see anyone else who's hurt send them this way. I'm no doctor, but I'll help however I can." He felt like kicking his self, but in a way this could be paying off how he snuck around on the battlefield instead of suicidally running into the fray. Not that he cared, but he didn't want any rumors floating around.
Eventually Vik came back with some disinfectant and bandages. Which was good because by then he was running out of bedspread. After taking care of the most urgent of injuries, he made sure to change Vash's bandages into actual bandages. "Alright then, at the least if you die it won't be because of my shoddy handword with limited supplies." he said cheerfully, not sure if the man was awake or not. He'd bet on not, blood loss can knock you right out. Luckily Roland was able to get the bleeding to stop a while ago, so he might be waking up any time. Or he might be out for days. People were weird.
